The Growth of Photoactive Porphyrin-Based MOF Thin Films Using the Liquid-Phase Epitaxy Approach and their Optoelectronic Properties

2D Metal-Organic Framework Nanosheets based on Pd-TCPP as Photocatalysts for Highly Improved Hydrogen Evolution

In this report, a 2D MOF nanosheet derived Pd single-atom catalyst, denoted as Pd-MOF, was fabricated and examined for visible light photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). This Pd-MOF can provide a remarkable photocatalytic activity (a H2 production rate of 21.3 mmol/gh in the visible range), which outperforms recently reported Pt-MOFs (with a H2 production rate of 6.6 mmol/gh) with a similar noble metal loading. Notably, this high efficiency of Pd-MOF is not due to different chemical environment of the metal center, nor by changes in the spectral light absorption. The higher performance of the Pd-MOF in comparison to the analogue Pt-MOF is attributed to the longer lifetime of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs and higher charge transfer efficiency.

Fast cathodic electrodeposition of ZnTCPP-functionalized metal-organic framework films for preparation of a fluorescent aptamer sensor for microcystin determination

A one-step electrodeposition-assisted self-assembly technique has been developed for preparation of ZnTCPP@MOF films with three-dimensional mesoporous structure in a three-electrode system. The internal structure of the ZnTCPP@MOF films was tuned by adjusting the electrochemical deposition voltage, deposition time, and the concentration of ZnTCPP at room temperature. The ZnTCPP@MOF films under different deposition conditions were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The prepared ZnTCPP@MOF films exhibited excellent fluorescence properties, in which ZnTCPP molecules were encapsulated inside the MOF as fluorescent signal probes and structure-directing agents, which affected the electrochemical response of the ZnTCPP@MOF films. The sensing platform based on ZnTCPP@MOF film was used to detect microcystin with a wide determination range (1.0 × 10^-12 mol/L ~ 1.0 × 10^-5 mol/L), low determination limit (3.8 × 10^-13 mol/L), and high sensitivity. More importantly, the strategy is simple, low-cost, green, and environmentally friendly, and it provides a new strategy for the direct use of MOFs films as signaling components.

Synergistic Dual-Atom Molecular Catalyst Derived from Low-Temperature Pyrolyzed Heterobimetallic Macrocycle-N4 Corrole Complex for Oxygen Reduction

A heterobimetallic corrole complex, comprising oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) active non-precious metals Co and Fe with a corrole-N4 center (PhFCC), is successfully synthesized and used to prepare a dual-atom molecular catalyst (DAMC) through subsequent low-temperature pyrolysis. This low-temperature pyrolyzed electrocatalyst exhibited impressive ORR performance, with onset potentials of 0.86 and 0.94 V, and half-wave potentials of 0.75 and 0.85 V, under acidic and basic conditions, respectively. During potential cycling, this DAMC displayed half-wave potential losses of only 25 and 5 mV under acidic and alkaline conditions after 3000 cycles, respectively, demonstrating its excellent stability. Single-cell Nafion-based proton exchange membrane fuel cell performance using this DAMC as the cathode catalyst showed a maximum power density of 225 mW cm^-2 , almost close to that of most metal-N4 macrocycle-based catalysts. The present study showed that preservation of the defined CoN4 structure along with the cocatalytic Fe-Cx site synergistically acted as a dual ORR active center to boost overall ORR performance. The development of DAMC from a heterobimetallic CoN4-macrocyclic system using low-temperature pyrolysis is also advantageous for practical applications.

Special Issue "Advances in Epitaxial Materials"-Editorial Preface

In this Special Issue, we have 10 excellent papers on epitaxy. In this editorial preface, I will make comments on the following issues: (1) applications of the materials examined, (2) lattice mismatch, (3) epitaxial growth methods used, (4) characterization methods used, (5) material problems: solved and still to be solved. The “Advances in Epitaxial Materials” has a big advantage of having, in one issue, papers on different materials, but in every paper the reader should find interesting information on epitaxial growth and characterization.

Current status and future prospects of metal–organic frameworks at the interface of dye-sensitized solar cells

In this Frontier Article recent progresses and challenges at the interface of metal–organic frameworks and dye-sensitized solar cells are highlighted and discussed.
