Study on the Synthesis of Mn3o4 Nanooctahedrons and Their Performance for Lithium Ion Batteries

Degradation of 4-chlorophenol using MnOOH and γ-MnOOH nanomaterials as porous catalyst: Performance, synergistic mechanism, and effect of co-existing anions

Transition metal catalysts have been proven to be a highly-potent catalyst for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. The present work aimed to synthesizes the γ-MnOOH and MnOOH based on the one-pot hydrothermal method as PMS activators for efficient degradation of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP). The effect of operational parameters including solution pH, γ-MnOOH and MnOOH dose, PMS dose, 4-CP concentration, and also mixture media composition was elaborated. The results showed that the combination of MnOOH and γ-MnOOH with PMS noticeably creates a synergistic effect (SF) in 4-CP degradation by both PMS/MnOOH and PMS/γ-MnOOH process, with a SF value of 48.14 and 97.42, respectively. In both systems, the removal of 4-CP decreased in severely alkaline and acidic conditions, while no significant changes were observed in pH 5 to 9. Also, coexisting PO43- significantly reduced the removal efficiency of both systems. In addition, the effect of humic acid (HA) as a classical scavenger was investigated and showed that presence of 4 mg/L HA reduced the removal efficiency of 4-CP in the PMS/MnOOH process from 97.44% to 79.3%. The three consecutive use of both catalysts turned out that MnOOH has better stability than γ-MnOOH with lower Mn ions leaching. More importantly, quenching experiment showed that both non-radical (1O2 and O2-) and radical (SO4- and OH) pathways are involved in 4-CP degradation and non-radical pathway was the dominant one in both systems.

3D printed interdigitated supercapacitor using reduced graphene oxide-MnO x /Mn3O4 based electrodes

In this study hybrid nanocomposites (HNCs) based on manganese oxides (MnO_x/Mn₃O₄) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) are synthesized as active electrodes for energy storage devices. Comprehensive structural characterizations demonstrate that the active material is composed of MnO_x/Mn₃O₄ nanorods and nanoparticles embedded in rGO nanosheets. The development of such novel structures is facilitated by the extreme synthesis conditions (high temperatures and pressures) of the liquid-confined plasma plume present in the Laser Ablation Synthesis in Solution (LASiS) technique. Specifically, functional characterizations demonstrate that the performance of the active layer is highly correlated with the MnO_x/Mn₃O₄ to rGO ratio and the morphology of MnO_x/Mn₃O₄ nanostructures in HNCs. To that end, active layer inks comprising HNC samples prepared under optimal laser ablation time windows, when interfaced with a percolated conductive network of electronic grade graphene and carbon nanofibers (CNFs) mixture, indicate superior supercapacitance for functional electrodes fabricated via sequential inkjet printing of the substrate, current collector layer, active material layer, and gel polymer electrolyte layer. Electrochemical characterizations unequivocally reveal that the electrode with the LASiS synthesized MnO_x/Mn₃O₄–rGO composite exhibits significantly higher specific capacitance compared to the ones produced with commercially available Mn₃O₄–graphene NCs. Moreover, the galvanostatic charge–discharge (GCD) experiments with the LASiS synthesized HNCs show a significantly larger charge storage capacity (325 F g⁻¹) in comparison to NCs synthesized with commercially available Mn₃O₄–graphene (189 F g⁻¹). Overall, this study has paved the way for use of LASiS-based synthesized functional material in combination with additive manufacturing techniques for all-printed electronics with superior performance.

A Bio-Inspired Nanotubular Na2MoO4/TiO2 Composite as a High-Performance Anodic Material for Lithium-Ion Batteries

A train of bio-inspired nanotubular Na₂MoO₄/TiO₂ composites were synthesized by using a natural cellulose substance (e.g., commercial ordinary filter paper) as the structural template. The TiO₂ gel films were coated on the cellulose nanofiber surfaces via a sol-gel method firstly, followed with the deposition of the poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride)/Na₂MoO₄ (PDDA/Na₂MoO₄) bi-layers several times, through the layer-by-layer self-assembly route, yielding the (PDDA/Na₂MoO₄)_n/TiO₂-gel/cellulose composite, which was calcined in air to give various Na₂MoO₄/TiO₂ nanocomposites containing different Na₂MoO₄ contents (15.4, 24.1, and 41.4%). The resultant nanocomposites all inherited the three-dimensionally porous network structure of the premier cellulose substance, which were formed by hierarchical TiO₂ nanotubes anchored with the Na₂MoO₄ layers. When employed as anodic materials for lithium-ion batteries, those Na₂MoO₄/TiO₂ nanocomposites exhibited promoted electrochemical performances in comparison with the Na₂MoO₄ powder and pure TiO₂ nanotubes, which was resulted from the high capacity of the Na₂MoO₄ component and the buffering effects of the TiO₂ nanotubes. Among all the nanotubular Na₂MoO₄/TiO₂ composites, the one with a Na₂MoO₄ content of 41.4% showed the best electrochemical properties, such as the cycling stability with a capacity of 180.22 mAh g⁻¹ after 200 charge/discharge cycles (current density: 100 mA g⁻¹) and the optimal rate capability.
