Abstract
Background Soft tissue sarcoma (STS) has lacked reliable prognostic indicators. This study evaluates blood-based inflammatory and nutritional indexes to identify good predictors for STS outcomes. These indicators included neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), systemic inflammation response index (SIRI), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (PNI), albumin-to-globulin ratio (AGR), and platelet-to-albumin ratio (PAR). Methods A total of 93 were included, and blood indexes were measured preoperatively. Univariate and multivariate regression analyses identified significant predictors, and model performance was assessed using the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC), Concordance Index (C-index), and Likelihood Ratio Chi-Square (LR_χ2). Results Univariate analysis indicated that NLR, PLR, LMR, SIRI, AGR, and PAR show potentially significant differences (P<0.01), except for PNI. Further analysis showed that SIRI and AGR have a high C-index, LR_χ2, and -2 log-likelihood, lower AIC and BIC, indicating a better model fit for overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). The combination index of the SIRI+AGR+Enneking stage achieved the best accuracy (C-index: 0.751 for DFS; C-index: 0.755 for OS). Multivariate regression showed higher Enneking staging (HR=2.720, P=0.038), lower AGR (HR=2.091, P=0.014), and higher SIRI (HR=2.078, P=0.034) as independent prognostic factors for DFS. Meanwhile, low AGR (HR=3.729, P=0.034), and high SIRI (HR=3.729, P=0.016) remained independent prognostic factors for OS. Conclusion Preoperative SIRI is a better predictive index compared to NLR, PLR, and LMR. Preoperative SIRI and AGR are independent risk factors for both DFS and OS. The combination index of the SIRI+AGR+Enneking stage provides a more robust prediction of clinical prognosis in STS patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cervical cancer ranks as the second most fatal tumour globally among females. Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) have been widely applied to the diagnosis of cancers. METHODS The clinicopathologic data of 180 patients with stage IB2-IIB cervical cancer who underwent radical concurrent chemoradiotherapy from January 2018 to December 2019 were retrospectively analysed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were plotted to analyse the optimal cut-off values of NLR and PLR for predicting the therapeutic effects of concurrent chemoradiotherapy. The associations of PLR and other clinicopathological factors with 1-year survival rates were explored through univariate analysis and multivariate Cox regression analysis, respectively. RESULTS NLR was significantly associated with the therapeutic effects of neoadjuvant therapy, with the optimal cut-off value of 2.89, area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.848 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.712-0.896), sensitivity of 0.892 (95% CI: 0.856-0.923) and specificity of 0.564 (95% CI: 0.512-0.592). PLR had a significant association with the therapeutic effects of neoadjuvant therapy, with the optimal cut-off value of 134.27, AUC of 0.766 (95% CI: 0.724-0.861), sensitivity of 0.874 (95% CI: 0.843-0.905) and specificity of 0.534 (95% CI: 0.512-0.556). Lymphatic metastasis ([95% CI: 1.435-5.461], [95% CI: 1.336-4.281], depth of invasion ([95% CI: 1.281-3.546], [95% CI: 1.183-3.359]) and tumour size ([95% CI: 1.129-3.451], [95% CI: 1.129-3.451]) were independent factors influencing the overall survival and disease-free survival (DFS) of patients with cervical cancer. NLR (95%CI: 1.256-4.039) and PLR (95%CI:1.281-3.546) were also independent factors affecting DFS. CONCLUSION NLR and PLR in the peripheral blood before treatment may predict DFS of patients with stage IB2-IIB cervical cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Surgical site infection (SSI) is common in surgery for malignant musculoskeletal tumours, specifically those arising from the trunk. In this study, we investigated the risk factors for SSI after resection of musculoskeletal tumours of the trunk. METHODS This retrospective observational study included 125 patients (72 males, 53 females) with musculoskeletal tumours of the trunk in our hospital from 1 April 2008 to 31 August 2023. The incidence of SSI and its risk factors were investigated. RESULTS SSI was observed in 26% (32/125), and the median time to SSI was 22 days. On multivariate analysis, the following were identified as risk factors for SSI: tumours arising caudal to Jacoby's line (hazard ratio [HR] 4.04; P = .0107), soft tissue reconstruction (HR 3.43; P = .0131), and low Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) (HR 0.96; P = .0304). Patients were classified into two risk categories based on GNRI scores: the risk group (GNRI ≤98) and no risk group (>98). The risk group showed a significantly lower overall noninfection survival rate (P = .023). CONCLUSION Tumours arising caudal to Jacoby line, soft tissue reconstruction, and lower GNRI were risk factors for SSI. Preoperative and postoperative nutritional interventions should be considered to improve GNRI.

Abstract
Introduction This study seeks to investigate the barriers to care that exist for patients presenting with sarcomas of musculoskeletal origin. Understanding the roots of delays in care for patients with musculoskeletal sarcoma is particularly important given the necessity of prompt treatment for oncologic diagnoses. Investigators reviewed relevant studies of publications reporting barriers to care in patients undergoing diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal tumors. Methods A comprehensive literature search was conducted using Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, and PubMed-MEDLINE. Twenty publications were analyzed, including a total of 114,056 patients. Results Four barrier subtypes were identified: Socioeconomic Status, Geographic Location, Healthcare Quality, Sociocultural Factors. Socioeconomic status included access to health insurance and income level. Geographic location included distance traveled by patients, access to referral centers, type of hospital system and resource-challenged environments. Healthcare quality included substandard imaging, access to healthcare resources, and healthcare utilization prior to diagnosis. Sociocultural factors included psychological states, nutrition, education and social support. Conclusion After identifying the most significant barriers in this study, we can target specific public health issues within our community that may reduce delays in care. The assessment of barriers to care is an important first step for improving the delivery of oncologic patient care to this patient population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Infection-associated emergency department use in renal transplant recipients has been increasing as solid-organ transplant has become a more common treatment method for chronic kidney failure. Platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio has been demonstrated to be significantly elevated in nosocomial infections in patients treated at intensive care units and is positively correlated with duration of hospital stay. In this study, we aimed to determine whether the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio could be used as an indicator of infection in renal transplant patients presenting to emergency departments. MATERIALS AND METHODS This case-control retrospective study included data from between May 2015 and February 2018. We used the patient information management system to review patient medical records and laboratory test results of study participants. RESULTS Our study included 156 adults in the patient group (recipients with infection) and 170 adults in the control group (recipients without infection). We observed significant differences between patient and control groups in terms of the number of days of hospital stay; leukocyte, neutrophil, and lymphocyte counts; the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio; and C-reactive protein levels. We plotted receiver operating characteristic curves to determine the sensitivity and specificity of the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio along with C-reactive protein. The areas under the curve were 0.892 for C-reactive protein and 0.707 for the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio. CONCLUSIONS For systemic inflammation, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio can be used in conjunction with other biomarkers as an indicator of inflammation in renal transplant recipients who present with infection-associated causes to emergency departments.

Abstract
A second-line standard of treatment has not yet been identified in patients with soft tissue sarcomas (STS), so identifying predictive markers could be a valuable tool. Recent studies have shown that the intratumoral and inflammatory systems significantly influence tumor aggressiveness. We aimed to investigate prognostic values of pre-therapy neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), systemic inflammatory index (SII), progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) of STS patients receiving second-line treatment. In this single-center retrospective analysis, ninety-nine patients with STS were enrolled. All patients received second-line treatment after progressing to anthracycline. PFS and OS curves were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method of RNA sequencing, and CIBERSORT analysis was performed on six surgical specimens of liposarcoma patients. A high NLR, PLR, and SII were significantly associated with worse PFS (p = 0.019; p = 0.004; p = 0.006). Low LMR was significantly associated with worse OS (p = 0.006). Patients treated with Trabectedin showed a better PFS when the LMR was low, while patients treated with other regimens showed a worse PFS when the LMR was low (p = 0.0154). The intratumoral immune infiltrates analysis seems to show a correlation between intratumoral macrophages and LMR. PS ECOG. The metastatic onset and tumor burden showed prognostic significance for PFS (p = 0.004; p = 0.041; p = 0.0086). According to the histologies, PFS was: 5.7 mo in liposarcoma patients vs. 3.8 mo in leiomyosarcoma patients vs. 3.1 months in patients with other histologies (p = 0.053). Our results confirm the prognostic role of systemic inflammatory markers in patients with STS. Moreover, we demonstrated that LMR is a specific predictor of Trabectedin efficacy and could be useful in daily clinical practice. We also highlighted a possible correlation between LMR levels and the percentage of intratumoral macrophages.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Immune checkpoint protein (ICP), which is a central factor group of the immune system, has been reported to have a correlation between the degree of its expression and the prognosis of patients with malignant tumors, and many inhibitors have appeared as therapeutic targets. On the other hand, a soluble form of ICP in circulating blood induced systemic immunosuppression. In this study, we investigated the relationship between the soluble form of CD80 (sCD80) which is a ligand for the inhibitory system CTLA-4, in blood, and clinicopathological parameters in patients with soft tissue tumors. METHODS A total of 119 patients with primary soft tissue tumors were enrolled in this study. The sCD80 levels were measured by enzyme immunoassay. RESULTS There were no significant differences in sCD80 levels between benign (34) and soft tissue sarcoma (STS) patients (85). In STS, the high-sCD80 group had significantly lower metastasis-free survival (MS) and lower overall survival (OS) than the low-sCD80 group at 5 years using the log-rank test (OS: high > 404 pg/mL, low ≤ 404 pg/mL, MS: high > 531 pg/ml, low ≤ 531 pg/ml). On multivariate Cox proportional hazard analysis, the high-sCD80 group had significant differences in 5MS and 5OS compared to the low-sCD80 group. CONCLUSIONS In conclusion, sCD80 may negatively affect systemic immune circumstances, in STS, and may have potential as a therapeutic target.

Abstract
Background: To evaluate the prognostic values of nutrition-associated indicators and develop nutritional models for prediction of different clinical outcomes in patients with high-grade osteosarcoma receiving surgical resection.Methods: Patients diagnosed as high-grade osteosarcomas were included between 2008 and 2018. Body mass index (BMI), Glasgow prognostic score (GPS), systematic inflammatory index (SII), and controlling nutritional score (CONUT) were calculated as nutrition-associated indicators. The primary outcome was overall survival (OS) as the long-term outcome, and the secondary outcome was the postoperative hospitalization duration as the short-term outcome. The prognostic values of nutrition-associated indicators were evaluated by univariate and multivariate analyses to recognize the potential predictors for construction of nomogram model with validation.Results: High GPS and CONUT yielded poor OS independently [GPS: HR (95% CI): 3.262 (2.035-5.229), p < 0.001; CONUT: HR (95% CI): 2.445 (1.508-3.964), p < 0.001]. The nomogram model for OS showed great prediction abilities and moderate calibration performance after integrating GPS and CONUT. CONUT was also identified as the independent predictor for hospitalization duration [OR (95% CI): 1.950 (1.145-3.321), p = 0.014].Conclusions: The CONUT score was considered as the significant predictor in prediction of OS and hospitalization duration. Appropriate management for nutritional status might optimize patients' prognoses with reference to nutrition-associated indicators.

Abstract
PURPOSE Hip fracture is common in older patients and is associated with high mortality and functional impairment. The Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) evaluates the risk of malnutrition-related complications, and the Barthel Index (BI) evaluates older patients' functional status. The study aim was to determine the risk factors for both death and decreased BI within 1 year after hip fracture. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the records of 108 patients who were treated for hip fractures in 10 public or private hospitals from February to July 2007. Participating facilities comprised eight public or private hospitals with 200-499 beds, and two private or orthopedic hospitals with 20-199 beds. We evaluated several risk factors for death and lower BI within 1 year after hip fracture. RESULTS The mortality rate within 1 year postoperatively for patients who survived inpatient stay was 6.5% (7/108). The proportion of patients with decreased postoperative BI was 43.6% (44/101). Binomial logistic regression analysis showed that several factors, including low GNRI (odds ratio [OR]: 0.80; 95% confidence interval [CI: 0.68-0.93]), were risk factors for death within 1 year. Postoperative delirium (OR: 8.84 [1.52-51.6]), postinjury dementia (OR: 34.8 [3.01-402]), preinjury BI (OR: 1.05 [1.02-1.08]), and preinjury dementia (OR: 6.22 [1.73-22.4]) were risk factors for decreased postoperative BI. CONCLUSIONS Our findings indicated that lower GNRI was a risk factor for death within 1 year of hip surgery and that delirium and dementia were among the risk factors for decreased BI 1 year after hip fracture.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to determine whether the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) can predict the prognosis in patients with soft-tissue sarcoma (STS) before treatment and to examine whether there is an association between PNI values and clinical characteristics. PATIENTS AND METHODS The data on 100 patients with primary STS were retrospectively reviewed. The cohort included 55 men and 45 women, with a mean age of 64 years. The mean follow-up duration was 41.7 months. RESULTS The median PNI was 51.35. The PNI was significantly inversely associated with tumor size, tumor grade, and age. We found that the PNI was a significant prognostic marker for disease-specific and event-free survival using univariate and multivariate analyses. Patients with a low PNI had poorer disease-specific and event-free survival than those with a high PNI. CONCLUSION These results suggest that the PNI can be used as a prognostic marker in patients with STS.

Abstract
The geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) is widely used for nutritional assessment in older inpatients and is associated with postoperative complications and cancer prognosis. We investigated the use of GNRI to predict long-term outcomes in hepatocellular carcinoma of all etiologies after hepatectomy. Overall, 346 patients were examined after propensity score matching. We dichotomized the GNRI score into high GNRI (> 98: N = 173) and low GNRI (≤ 98: N = 173) and evaluated recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) between both groups. Clinicopathological characteristics between the low- and high-GNRI groups were similar after propensity score matching except for the components of the GNRI score (body mass index and serum albumin level), Child–Pugh score (comprising serum albumin level), and preoperative alpha-fetoprotein level (p < 0.0001, p < 0.0001, p = 0.0030, and p = 0.0007, respectively). High GNRI was associated with significantly better RFS and OS (p = 0.0003 and p = 0.0211, respectively; log-rank test). Multivariate analysis revealed that GNRI is an independent prognostic factor of RFS and OS (low vs. high; hazard ratio [HR], 1.8284; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.3598–2.4586; p < 0.0001, and HR, 1.5452; 95% CI 1.0345–2.3079; p = 0.0335, respectively). GNRI is an objective, inexpensive, and easily calculated assessment tool for nutritional status and can predict prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma after hepatectomy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) was developed to evaluate the prognosis in elderly hospitalized patients at risk of malnutrition and related morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between preoperative GNRI and long-term outcomes in elderly gastric cancer patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 297 consecutive patients aged ≥ 65 years who underwent laparoscopic gastrectomy with R0 resection and evaluated their overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). RESULTS In the univariate analyses, OS was significantly associated with the American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status (ASA-PS), tumor size, tumor differentiation, pathological stage, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), C-reactive protein, postoperative complications, and GNRI, whereas in the univariate analyses of CSS, ASA-PS, tumor size, tumor differentiation, pathological stage, CEA, postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy, and GNRI were significantly associated with poor prognosis. In the multivariate analysis, ASA-PS, tumor differentiation, pathological stage, and GNRI were significant independent prognostic factors of OS, whereas ASA-PS, pathological stage, and CEA were significant independent prognostic factors of CSS. CONCLUSIONS GNRI is significantly associated with OS and CSS in elderly gastric cancer patients and is an independent predictor of OS. It is a simple, cost-effective, and promising nutritional index for predicting OS in elderly patients.

Abstract
Second allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) has a low survival outcome and a high non-relapse mortality (NRM) rate which is a major obstacle to this treatment. We hypothesized that the status of malnourishment after first allo-HSCT as represented by the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) could be used as a prognostic factor to determine the outcomes of second allo-HSCT. A total of 108 patients with a median age of 42 (range, 17-69) years, who received second allo-HSCT for disease recurrence after first allo-HSCT from our institution, were included in this study. Low GNRI had a significant impact on NRM at 2 years after second allo-HSCT: 56.9% in patients with GNRI ≤ 92 compared with 27.5% in patients with GNRI > 92 (P = 0.002). In multivariate analysis, GNRI of ≤ 92 was the only significant factor for NRM (hazard ratio [HR] 2.29, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.15-4.56, P = 0.018). High-risk disease status at second allo-HSCT (HR 2.74, 95% CI 1.46-5.14, P = 0.002) and GNRI of ≤ 92 (HR 1.70, 95% CI 1.02-2.82, P = 0.042) were identified as significant factors for overall survival (OS). A score of 1 was assigned to each factor, and the OS rate at 2 years after second allo-HSCT decreased according to the score: 53.0% in patients with score 0, 32.3% with score 1, and 2.5% with score 2 (P < 0.001). In conclusion, GNRI could be a useful predictor for the outcomes of second allo-HSCT. A prospective study in other cohorts is warranted to validate the findings of our study.

Abstract
Oncologic patients often suffer from malnutrition which in turn, might have negative impact on treatment outcomes. The Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), as an index of impaired nutritional status, has emerged as a significant prognostic factor for short-and long-term outcomes in cancer patients. The aim of the current systematic review is to determine whether the GNRI is an independent prognostic factor of postoperative complications and survival in cancer patients. A systematic search was conducted to identify studies, published from 2005 to 2019, which assessed associations between GNRI and short- and long-term outcomes in cancer patients. Eighteen studies fulfilled the eligibility criteria and were included in the analysis. Low scores of GNRI were associated with increased risk for developing postoperative complications and impaired survival of cancer patients in most studies. Our findings support the use of the GNRI in the clinical practice, since it is a simple and reliable tool for assessing nutritional status in oncologic patients. More prospective, multi-centered studies are warranted to confirm the current results, as well as the role of nutritional support in improving the prognosis of cancer patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to evaluate the clinical significance of pre-treatment Naples prognostic score (NPS) in patients with osteosarcoma. METHODS The clinical data of 133 osteosarcoma patients between January 2011 and February 2018 in our hospital was retrospectively collected and analyzed. NPS was calculated from four parameters, including serum albumin level, serum total cholesterol (TC), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR). Patients were divided into three groups (group 1-3) based on NPS. The relationships between NPS and clinical features, overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS) were analyzed. Two prediction models based on NPS and clinical parameters were developed: clinical parameters model (model A), and the combined model of NPS and clinical parameters (model B). Their predictive performances were further evaluated and compared. RESULTS The median follow-up time of this cohort was 46.0 (range, 5-75) months, while the median OS and PFS was 40 (range, 5-75) months and 36 (range, 5-71) months, respectively. NPS was significantly correlated with gender, tumor location, Enneking stage, pathological fracture, local recurrence, and metastasis (all P < 0.05). Variables of NPS, Enneking stage, local recurrence, metastasis, and NLR were confirmed as independent prognostic factors for OS and PFS by univariate and multivariate Cox analysis. Prediction model B obtained larger AUCs for OS and PFS and showed better consistency between nomogram-predicted and actual survival than that of model A at the follow-up time of 1-, 3-, and 5-year. CONCLUSIONS NPS was a novel, reliable, and multidimensional prognostic scoring system with favorable predictive performance for patients with osteosarcoma.

Abstract
Background: Several recent studies have reported the reliable prognostic effect of hematological biomarkers in various tumors. Yet, the prognostic value of these hematological markers in soft tissue sarcoma (STS) remains inconclusive. Thus, the aim of this meta-analysis was to check the effect of hematological markers on the prognosis of STS. Methods: We systematically searched for relevant papers published before October 2019 in the PubMed and EMBASE databases. Overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS) were the primary outcome, whereas disease-free survival was the secondary outcome. A thorough study of hazard ratios (HR) and 95% of confidence intervals (CIs) was done for determining the prognostic significance. Results: We performed 23 studies that comprised of 4,480 patients with STS. The results revealed that higher neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), C-reactive protein (CRP), and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were associated with poor OS/DFS (HR = 2.08/1.72, for NLR; HR = 1.92/1.75, for CRP, and HR = 1.86/1.61, for PLR). In contrast, a low lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) was relate to worse OS/DFS (HR = 2.01/1.90, for LMR). Moreover, pooled analysis illustrated that elevated NLR and CRP represents poor DSS, with HRs of 1.46 and 2.06, respectively. In addition, combined analysis revealed that higher Glasgow prognostic score (GPS) was linked to an adverse OS/DSS (HR = 2.35/2.77). Conclusion: Our meta-analysis suggested that hematological markers (NLR, CRP, PLR, LMR, and GPS) are one of the important prognostic indicators for patients affected by high-grade STS and patients with the STS being located in the extremity.

Abstract
BACKGROUNDS Both pretreatment serum CRP (C-reactive protein) level and ALB (albumin) level have been found to be predictive of survival for multiple malignancies including sarcoma. Since both of the GPS (Glasgow prognostic score) and CAR (C-reactive protein to albumin ratio) are based on the combination of CRP and ALB, we conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the prognostic role of these two parameters for sarcoma patients. METHODS A detailed literature search was conducted in MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Library for relevant research publications written in English. Patients' clinical characteristics, outcomes of overall survival (OS), disease-specific survival (DSS), and disease-free survival (DFS) were extracted. Pooled hazard ratios (HRs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were combined to evaluate the prognostic role of GPS or CAR. RESULTS Twelve articles containing 2695 patients were identified as eligible studies. The results showed that an elevated GPS was significantly correlated with poor OS (HR = 2.42; 95% CI: 1.98-2.94; p < 0.001; fixed-effects model), DSS (HR = 2.28; 95% CI: 1.75-2.97; p < 0.001; fixed-effects model), DSS (HR = 2.28; 95% CI: 1.75-2.97; p < 0.001; fixed-effects model), DSS (HR = 2.28; 95% CI: 1.75-2.97; p < 0.001; fixed-effects model), DSS (HR = 2.28; 95% CI: 1.75-2.97; p < 0.001; fixed-effects model), DSS (HR = 2.28; 95% CI: 1.75-2.97. CONCLUSION An elevated GPS is predictive of poor survival in patients with sarcomas and is promising to be used as a factor for risk stratification. A higher CAR value is also predictive of poor survival; however, the optimal CAR cut-off value is still to be determined.

Abstract
Malignant soft-tissue sarcoma resection is associated with a relatively high incidence of surgical site infection (SSI). The known risk factors for SSI following soft-tissue sarcoma resection include tumor size and location, prolonged surgery, and massive blood loss. The geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) was used as a tool to help predict the occurrence of SSI after major surgery. We investigated the utility of the GNRI as a predictor of SSI following soft-tissue sarcoma resection. We retrospectively reviewed 152 patients who underwent surgical resection of soft-tissue sarcoma in our institute, and found that the incidence of SSI was 18.4% (28/152). The SSI and non-SSI groups significantly differed regarding surgical time, diameter of the skin incision, maximum tumor diameter, instrumentation, presence of an open wound, preoperative chemotherapy, preoperative C-reactive protein concentration, and GNRI. Binomial logistic regression analysis showed that the risk factors for SSI following soft-tissue sarcoma surgery were male sex, larger skin incision diameter, larger maximum tumor diameter, presence of an open wound, and lower GNRI. Our findings indicate that malnutrition is a risk factor for SSI after soft-tissue sarcoma resection, and suggest that appropriate assessment and intervention for malnutrition may reduce the incidence of SSI.
