Abstract
Increased attention is being focused on the biological control of agricultural pests using microorganisms, owing to their potential as a viable substitute for chemical control methods. Insect cadavers constitute a potential source of entomopathogenic microorganisms. We tested whether bacteria and fungi isolated from Spodoptera frugiperda (JE Smith) cadavers could affect its survival, development, egg-laying pattern, and hatchability, as well as induce mortality in Anthonomus grandis Boheman adults. We isolated the bacteria Enterobacter hormaechei and Serratia marcescens and the fungi Scopulariopsis sp. and Aspergillus nomiae from fall armyworm cadavers and the pest insects were subjected to an artificial diet enriched with bacteria cells or fungal spores to be tested, in the case of S. frugiperda, and only fungal spores in the case of A. grandis. Enterobacter hormaechei and A. nomiae were pathogenic to S. frugiperda, affecting the survival of adults and pupae. The fungus Scopulariopsis sp. does not affect the survival of S. frugiperda caterpillars and pupae; however, due to late action, moths and eggs may be affected. Aspergillus nomiae also increased mortality of A. grandis adults, as well as the development of S. frugiperda in the early stages of exposure to the diet, as indicated by the vertical spore transfer to offspring and low hatchability. Enterobacter hormaechei and A. nomiae are potential biocontrol agents for these pests, and warrant further investigation from a toxicological point of view and subsequently in field tests involving formulations that could improve agricultural sustainability practices.

Abstract
The Peruvian Amazonian native cacao faces ongoing challenges that significantly undermine its productivity. Among them, frosty pod rot disease and cadmium accumulation result in losses that need for effective and environmentally safe strategies, such as those based on bacteria. To explore the biological resources in the cacao soil, a descriptive study was conducted to assess the diversity of culturable bacteria across three production districts in the Amazonas region: La Peca, Imaza, and Cajaruro. The study also focused on the functional properties of these bacteria, particularly those related to the major issues limiting cacao cultivation. For this purpose, 90 native bacterial isolates were obtained from the cacao rhizosphere. According to diversity analysis, the community was composed of 19 bacterial genera, with a dominance of the Bacillaceae family and variable distribution among the districts. This variability was statistically supported by the PCoA plots and is related to the pH of the soil environment. The functional assessment revealed that 56.8% of the isolates showed an antagonism index greater than 75% after 7 days of confrontation. After 15 days of confrontation with Moniliophthora roreri, 68.2% of the bacterial population demonstrated this attribute. This capability was primarily exhibited by Bacillus strains. On the other hand, only 4.5% were capable of removing cadmium, highlighting the biocontrol potential of the bacterial community. In addition, some isolates produced siderophores (13.63%), solubilized phosphate (20.45%), and solubilized zinc (4.5%). Interestingly, these traits showed an uneven distribution, which correlated with the divergence found by the beta diversity. Our results revealed a diverse bacterial community inhabiting the Amazonian cacao rhizosphere, showcasing crucial functional properties related to the biocontrol of M. roreri. The information generated serves as a significant resource for the development of further biotechnological tools that can be applied to native Amazonian cacao.

Abstract
The use of PGPR is widely accepted as a promising tool for a more sustainable agricultural production and improved plant abiotic stress resistance. This study tested the ability of PVr_9, a novel bacterial strain, homologous to Beijerinckia fluminensis, to increase salt stress tolerance in A. thaliana. In vitro plantlets inoculated with PVr_9 and treated with 150 mM NaCl showed a reduction in primary root growth inhibition compared to uninoculated ones, and a leaf area significantly less affected by salt. Furthermore, salt-stressed PVr_9-inoculated plants had low ROS and 8-oxo-dG, osmolytes, and ABA content along with a modulation in antioxidant enzymatic activities. A significant decrease in Na+ in the leaves and a corresponding increase in the roots were also observed in salt-stressed inoculated plants. SOS1, NHX1 genes involved in plant salt tolerance, were up-regulated in PVr_9-inoculated plants, while different MYB genes involved in salt stress signal response were down-regulated in both roots and shoots. Thus, PVr_9 was able to increase salt tolerance in A. thaliana, thereby suggesting a role in ion homeostasis by reducing salt stress rather than inhibiting total Na+ uptake. These results showed a possible molecular mechanism of crosstalk between PVr_9 and plant roots to enhance salt tolerance, and highlighted this bacterium as a promising PGPR for field applications on agronomical crops.

Abstract
The potato plant is one of the main crops in the world. However, relatively little is known about key virulence factors of major fungal and bacterial diseases in potatoes, biocontrol measures to improve activity and stability, and the core driving forces in the control process. Here, we focus on analyzing the mechanisms by which genes, proteins, or (and) metabolites of potato pathogens as key virulence factors. Then, the single strain biocontrol agents, synthetic microbial communities, microbial microcapsule strategies were introduced, and the latter two strategies can improve stability and activity in biocontrol. Meanwhile, summarized the defense mechanisms of biocontrol and their specific issues in practical applications. Furthermore, explore how potato crop management, soil management, and climate effects, as crucial driving forces affect potato biocontrol in the system. Dynamic and systematic research, excavation of biocontrol strain resources, find the causes of regional disease resistance and exploration of biocontrol mechanism will provide promising solutions for biotic stress faced by potato in the future.

Abstract
Rhizosphere interactions are an understudied component of citrus production. This is even more important in Florida flatwood soils, which pose significant challenges in achieving sustainable and effective fruit production due to low natural fertility and organic matter. Citrus growers apply soil amendments, including oak mulch, to ameliorate their soil conditions. Thus, the aim of this research was to evaluate the effects of oak mulch on citrus nutrient uptake, soil characteristics, and rhizosphere composition. The plant material consisted of 'Valencia' sweet orange (Citrus × sinensis) trees grafted on 'US-812' (C. reticulata × C. trifoliata) rootstock. The experiment consisted of two treatments, which included trees treated with oak mulch (300 kg of mulch per plot) and a control. The soil and leaf nutrient contents, soil pH, cation exchange capacity, moisture, temperature, and rhizosphere bacterial compositions were examined over the course of one year (spring and fall 2021). During the spring samplings, the citrus trees treated with oak mulch resulted in significantly greater soil Zn and Mn contents, greater soil moisture, and greater rhizosphere bacterial diversity compared to the control, while during the fall samplings, only a greater soil moisture content was observed in the treated trees. The soil Zn and Mn content detected during the spring samplings correlated with the significant increases in the diversity of the rhizosphere bacterial community composition. Similarly, the reduced rates of leaching and evaporation (at the soil surface) of oak mulch applied to Florida sandy soils likely played a large role in the significant increase in moisture and nutrient retention.

Abstract
Erwinia amylovora, the bacterial species responsible for fire blight, causes major economic losses in pome fruit crops worldwide. Chemical control is not always effective and poses a serious threat to the environment and human health. Social demands for eco-sustainable and safe control methods make it necessary to search for new biocontrol strategies such as those based on antagonists. A bacterial collection from different fire blight-free Mediterranean environments was tested for antagonistic activity against Spanish strains of E. amylovora. Antagonistic assays were carried out in vitro in culture medium and ex vivo in immature loquat and pear fruits. Results revealed that 12% of the 82 bacterial isolates tested were able to inhibit the growth of several strains of the pathogen. Some of the isolates also maintained their antagonistic activity even after chloroform inactivation. Selected isolates were further tested ex vivo, with several of them being able to delay and/or reduce fire blight symptom severity in both loquats and pears and having activity against some E. amylovora strains. The isolates showing the best antagonism also produced different hydrolases linked to biocontrol (protease, lipase, amylase, and/or DNAse) and were able to fix molecular nitrogen. Based on this additional characterization, four biocontrol strain candidates were further selected and identified using MALDI-TOF MS. Three of them were Gram-positive bacteria belonging to Bacillus and Paenarthrobacter genera, and the fourth was a Pseudomonas strain. Results provide promising prospects for an improvement in the biological control strategies against fire blight disease.

Abstract
Soil salinity is a major abiotic stress in global agricultural productivity with an estimated 50% of arable land predicted to become salinized by 2050. Since most domesticated crops are glycophytes, they cannot be cultivated on salt soils. The use of beneficial microorganisms inhabiting the rhizosphere (PGPR) is a promising tool to alleviate salt stress in various crops and represents a strategy to increase agricultural productivity in salt soils. Increasing evidence underlines that PGPR affect plant physiological, biochemical, and molecular responses to salt stress. The mechanisms behind these phenomena include osmotic adjustment, modulation of the plant antioxidant system, ion homeostasis, modulation of the phytohormonal balance, increase in nutrient uptake, and the formation of biofilms. This review focuses on the recent literature regarding the molecular mechanisms that PGPR use to improve plant growth under salinity. In addition, very recent -OMICs approaches were reported, dissecting the role of PGPR in modulating plant genomes and epigenomes, opening up the possibility of combining the high genetic variations of plants with the action of PGPR for the selection of useful plant traits to cope with salt stress conditions.

Abstract
Siderophore-positive bacteria present in the rhizosphere and in bulk soil assist plants by either inhibiting phytopathogen proliferation or increasing plant growth. The bacterial diversity of the Shisham forest ecosystem in the Tarai region of the Western Himalayas was studied and used for siderophore production, taking into account the large-scale dieback and wilt-induced mortality in Dalbergia sissoo (common name: shisham) plantation forests and the importance of soil microbes in tree health. In addition, Pseudomonas, Burkholderia, and Streptomyces were prominent siderophore-positive bacteria in Shisham forests. Pseudomonas species are known for their remarkable siderophore-producing ability. Bacterial siderophores inhibit pathogen growth by rapidly lowering the number of ferric ions in the rhizosphere. The Pseudomonas monteilii strain MN759447 was isolated from a D. sissoo plantation forest at the Agroforestry Research Centre, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand (28°58'N 79°25'E/28.97°N 79.41°E). It produces a significant number of siderophore units (80.36% in total). A two-stage optimization of growth factors was attempted in the strain MN759447 for better siderophore recovery. In the first-stage single-factor experiment, among the five variables studied, only pH, NH4NO3 concentration, and Fe concentration affected siderophore synthesis. In the second stage, an optimization of pH, NH4NO3 concentration, and Fe concentration for improved growth and enhanced siderophore production was carried out using a Box-Behnken design with response surface methodology. By using LC-MS, two derivatives of pseudomonine, salicylic acid, and kynurenic acid were detected as siderophores in the purified XAD-2 methanol extract of the P. monteilii strain MN759447. In addition to siderophore production, the P. monteilii strain MN759447 also exhibited a broad range of antagonistic activity against Aspergillus calidoustus (65%), Fusarium oxysporum (41.66%), Talaromyces pinophilus (65%), and Talaromyces verruculosus (65.1%) that are linked to sissoo mortality. To our knowledge, this is the first report on siderophore-producing bacteria isolated, identified, and characterized from the D. sissoo Roxb. forest habitat. This strain can also be developed as a commercial product.
