Abstract
BACKGROUND We investigated the extent of literature and findings on relationships between vestibular issues, noise sensitivity (NS), and anxiety. We were interested in how relationships among these factors impacted adults' recovery three months or more after mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). METHODS We conducted a scoping review to evaluate the extent of evidence linking relationships between vestibular issues, NS and anxiety with recovery after mTBI. Data relating to study characteristics and key findings were extracted and used to inform a critical narrative synthesis of findings. RESULTS After screening and full-text review, we included two studies. Both studies considered the combination of vestibular issues, NS and anxiety and mTBI recovery. Vestibular issues, NS and anxiety were all significantly associated with one another and their presence was the strongest indicator that symptoms would extend beyond three-months after mTBI. CONCLUSION Few studies have focused on the relationships that vestibular issues, NS and anxiety have with one another and recovery after mTBI. Given the apparent strong relationships between these factors and prolonged recovery, we highlight this as an area warranting further investigation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Little is known about the relationship between neuropsychological test performance, cognitive symptom reporting, and depressive symptoms after sport-related concussion. Accordingly, this cross-sectional study examined these relationships in collegiate athletes. It was hypothesized that depressive symptoms would moderate and mediate the relationship between performance-based and self-reported cognitive functioning after concussion. METHODS After sustaining a sport-related concussion, 110 collegiate athletes completed a neuropsychological battery, the Post-Concussion Symptoms Scale, and the Beck Depression Inventory-Fast Screen. Neuropsychological test performance, depressive symptoms, and their interactions were entered into distinct hierarchical linear regression analyses with self-reported cognition as the dependent variable to assess moderation. Mediation was analyzed using the PROCESS macro with 5000 bootstrap samples and a 95% confidence interval. RESULTS There was a significant interaction between the mean memory composite and depressive symptoms when predicting cognitive symptom reporting, p = 0.047. Simple effects tests revealed that for athletes who had a lower memory composite score, an increase in depressive symptoms led to an increase in self-reported cognitive dysfunction, p < 0.001, ηp2 = 0.11. Depressive symptoms partially mediated the relationship between the memory composite and cognitive symptom reporting, indirect effect = -0.26, 95%CI[-0.58,0.001], but this relationship was not found for any other neurocognitive domain. CONCLUSIONS For tests of memory, depressive symptoms moderated and partially mediated the relationship between performance-based and self-reported cognitive functioning after sport-related concussion. Athletes reporting high depressive symptoms and cognitive dysfunction may need more comprehensive evaluations to inform return-to-play decisions, and depression could be a treatment target for athletes who report high levels of cognitive dysfunction after concussion.

Abstract
AIM Address deficiencies in access to sports sideline medical care by using a Concussion Check Protocol (CCP) for non-medically-trained people. METHOD A prospective observational cohort study was undertaken on a single amateur female club-based soccer team over two consecutive years in New Zealand utilising a non-medically trained support person termed a Safety officer. CCP is an extension of the King-Devick test with features such as warning signs and symptoms of concussion built into the application. All players suspected of having a potential concussive injury were tested on the match sideline. RESULTS The study overall incidence of match-related concussions was 20.8 (95% CI: 11.8 to 36.6) per 1000 match-hrs, with mean missed-match duration of 31 (95% CI: 27.9 to 34.1) days. Twelve players over the study had a significantly slower post-injury KD (49.9 [44.3 to 64.1]s; χ2(1) = 11.0; p = 0.0009; z = -2.9; p = 0.0033; d = 0.30) and/or reported symptoms, compared with their own baseline (47.2 [44.3 to 64.1]s). CCP had an overall sensitivity of 100% (95% CI: 73.5% to 100.0%), specificity of 100% (95% CI: 69.2% to 100.0%) and positive predictive value (PPV) of 100% (84.6% to 100.0%). CONCLUSION Sideline use of CCP was undertaken successfully by non-medically trained people and provided a reliable platform for concussion identification.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Currently, concussion considers a problem of great magnitude, adolescents and young people being the population at risk, since it is in the process of maturation. Our goal has been to compare the effectiveness of different interventions (exercise therapy, vestibular rehabilitation and rest) in adolescents and young people with concussion. DEVELOPMENT A bibliographic search was carried out in the main databases. Once the inclusion/exclusion criteria and the PEDro methodological scale were applied, 6 articles were reviewed. The results support the use of exercise and vestibular rehabilitation in the initial stages to reduce post-concussion symptoms. According to most authors, therapeutic physical exercise and vestibular rehabilitation report greater benefits, although a protocol that unifies assessment scales, study variables and analysis parameters would be needed to be able to make the inference in the target population. CONCLUSIóN: From the moment of hospital discharge, the combined application of exercise and vestibular rehabilitation could be the best option to reduce post-concussion symptoms.

Abstract
CONTEXT A sport-related concussion (SRC) is a traumatic brain injury that is caused by biomechanical stresses and results in a complex pathophysiological process in the brain. Some in the sporting community believe that headgear (HG) can prevent SRC, and several professional Australian sports organizations, including rugby, football, and soccer clubs, recommend its use. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study is to determine whether HG is effective in lowering the prevalence of SRC in sports. DATA SOURCES A systematic search for related studies published between 1985 and 2023 was conducted using the following databases: Cochrane Library, AMED, PubMed, Web of Science, and Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro). STUDY SELECTION Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that investigated the effectiveness of HG in reducing SRC rate were included. STUDY DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis of RCTs. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level 1a. DATA EXTRACTION Two researchers independently completed the title and abstract search and performed full-text reviews. A third reviewer was consulted to reach a consensus if any discrepancies were noted. The PEDro scale was used to evaluate the quality of the included RCTs. Data recorded from each study included authors, year of publication, type and number of players, study design, duration of the study, injury rate, compliance (%), sports/level, and exposure hours. RESULTS The pooled results of 6311 players and 173,383 exposure hours showed 0% SRC reduction per 1000 hours of exposure in the experimental group compared with the control group, with an injury risk ratio of 1.03 (95% CI, 0.82-1.30; P = 0.79). CONCLUSION This systematic review and meta-analysis demonstrates that HG does not prevent SRC among soccer and rugby players, and therefore the findings from this meta-analysis do not currently support the use of HG to prevent SRC in soccer or rugby.

Abstract
PURPOSE To systematically characterize and assess the effectiveness of multidisciplinary care for patients with persistent post-concussion symptoms (PPCS). MATERIALS AND METHODS Only studies describing multidisciplinary treatment, defined as intervention provided by no less than 2 healthcare disciplines, each with independent scopes of practice, for patients with PPCS were considered. RESULTS A total of 8 of the 1357 studies identified were included. The studies were comprised of heterogenous patient populations, care delivery systems, healthcare providers, treatment approaches, and outcomes. CONCLUSIONS Findings suggest multidisciplinary care, using a needs-based approach with individual- or group-based interventions, may be more beneficial than usual care to; 1) immediately reduce concussion-related symptom complaints and improve mood and quality of life in adolescents following sports-related concussion (SRC) and, 2) may produce immediate and lasting improvements in symptom complaints of young, primarily female, adults following a non-SRC. Future studies should clearly describe the decision-making processes used to deliver care through a needs-based approach and prioritize the inclusion of objective, performance-based measures to assess outcomes.

Abstract
Sport-related concussion (SRC) is a prevalent injury. Significant disparities in SRC outcomes exist across racial and ethnic groups. These disparities may be attributed to the unequal distribution of political power (or influence) and resource allocation in various communities, shaping individuals' social determinants of health (SDOH). However, the influence of SDOH on SRC outcomes remains understudied. In this clinical commentary, we use the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Framework and describe how its application can help address gaps in our understanding of SDOH and SRC. This framework provides a comprehensive approach to investigating and addressing health disparities by considering SDOH along multiple levels and domains of influence. Using this framework, athletic trainers can identify areas requiring intervention and better understand how SDOH influence SRC outcomes. This understanding can help athletic trainers develop tailored interventions to promote equitable care for patients with SRC.

Abstract
Objective: To determine if a peer-led concussion reporting worksheet activity could elucidate barriers to reporting in collegiate athletes. Participants: Five hundred and three athletes from 7 universities across all three NCAA divisions. Methods: A supplementary qualitative analysis of responses to a concussion reporting worksheet completed during an RCT of a novel peer concussion education program. The first column of the worksheet required participants to list thoughts that prevent reporting and the second column required replacement thoughts that facilitate reporting. Results: A qualitative phenomenological thematic analysis of responses to the first column of the worksheets identified themes that coalesced into three areas: 1) missing out on athletic and social events, 2) losing one's competitive edge, and 3) negative interpersonal interaction/self-perception. Conclusions: Barriers to concussion reporting from several areas central to the collegiate athlete experience were identified. These barriers should be considered during clinical assessment and when developing concussion education programs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Changes in sleep quality and quantity are commonly endorsed by individuals following a concussion. Limited data exists examining the role of sleep disturbances within 72 hours, and throughout recovery, from concussion. The objective of this study was to determine if the number of days to symptom resolution varied between collegiate athletes with or without sleep-related symptoms following a concussion. DESIGN Retrospective chart review. METHODS Collegiate athletes (n = 539) who were diagnosed with a concussion between the 2015-2020 sport seasons participated in this retrospective chart review. Participants were divided into groups based on the presence or absence of sleep symptoms within 72 hours of a diagnosed concussion. A Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare days to symptom resolution between groups with α = 0.05. RESULTS Of the 539 participants, 250 (46.3%) reported sleep-related symptoms. Participants with sleep-related symptoms took significantly longer (U = 30656, p = 0.002) to report symptom resolution at rest (median [full range] = 8.00[0-423]) as compared to participants who did not report sleep-related symptoms (6.00[0-243] days). CONCLUSION Collegiate athletes that report sleep-related symptoms immediately following concussion (<72 hours) were observed to take, on median, two days longer to achieve symptom resolution at rest when compared to athletes who did not endorse the same symptoms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Return to play (RTP) protocols are an important part of recovery management following a sport-related concussion (SRC) and can prevent athletes from returning to competition too early and thereby avoid prolonged recovery times. To assist sporting organizations in the development of RTP guidelines, the Concussion in Sports Group (CISG) provides scientific-based recommendations for the management of SRC in its consensus statement on concussion in sport. OBJECTIVES This study investigates commonalities and differences among current RTP protocols of international sporting organizations and examines the implementation of the most recent CISG recommendations. METHODS Concussion guidelines and medical rules of 12 international sporting organizations from contact, collision and combat sports were accessed via the organizations websites and compared regarding the management of SRC and the RTP decision. RESULTS Only six of the included organizations developed and published their own concussion guidelines, which included an RTP protocol on their website. The number of steps until RTP was similar across the different protocols. Each protocol required at least one medical examination before clearing an athlete to RTP. A high variation among organizations was found for initial resting period after injury, the implementation of sport-specific training drills and the time needed to complete the protocol before returning to competition. At the date of this study (9 September 2023), none of the accessible RTP protocols were updated to include the latest version of the CISG consensus statement. CONCLUSION To improve the safety of athletes after a head injury, sporting organizations should develop sport-specific guidelines according to the latest CISG consensus statement, and this should be updated regularly. Implementation is especially important in combat sports, where there is a high incidence of head injury. Thus, there is a requirement for the most up-to-date concussion management protocols in these sports.

CONTEXT Neurocognitive testing is a critical tool in the management of sport-related concussions. Adversity during childhood and adolescence affects cognitive tasks, behavioral outcomes, and academic performance. Adversity may be important in baseline concussion test validity as well; however, the influence of these experiences is not well understood. OBJECTIVE To examine the relationship between individual-level experiences of adversity and baseline test validity of Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing (ImPACT). We hypothesized that experiences of poverty, maltreatment, or extreme neighborhood deprivation would be associated with lower odds of baseline test validity. DESIGN Case-control study. SETTING Cuyahoga County, Ohio. PATIENTS OR OTHER PARTICIPANTS A total of 6495 student-athletes born from 1995 through 2005 who completed a baseline ImPACT test between 10 and 18 years old and were identified in the Child-Household Integrated Longitudinal Data system, a comprehensive data system with demographic and social service usage outcomes for children in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) Baseline concussion test validity was determined using the ImPACT built-in validity measure. Experiences of adversity during the sensitive developmental periods of early childhood and adolescence were key independent variables. RESULTS Our findings suggested that social mobility may play an important role in baseline validity. Youth with upward social mobility (ie, poverty or neighborhood deprivation in early childhood only) were not different from youth without such experiences (odds ratio [OR] = 0.91, P = .74). Youth with persistent adversity across childhood or downward social mobility (ie, poverty or high neighborhood deprivation in adolescence only) had 50% to 72% lower odds of achieving a valid baseline test (persistent poverty, OR = 0.59, P = .05; adolescent poverty only, OR = 0.50, P = .004; adolescent neighborhood deprivation only, OR = 0.28, P < .001). Maltreatment had no significant effect on test validity. CONCLUSIONS These findings indicated that certain patterns of adversity may predispose youth to invalid baseline testing scores, potentially increasing their risk of inappropriate injury management and poor outcomes.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Military service members (SMs) are exposed to repetitive head impacts (RHIs) in combat and training that are purported to adversely affect brain health, including cognition, behavior, and function. Researchers have reported that RHI from blast-related exposure may affect both vestibular and ocular function, which in turn may be related to symptomology. As such, an examination of the effects of RHI on exposed military SMs should incorporate these domains. To date, researchers have not compared groups of exposed special operations forces (SOF) operators on combined clinical vestibular/ocular and eye-tracker-based outcomes. Therefore, the primary purpose of this study was to compare participant-reported symptoms and performance on the Vestibular/Ocular Motor Screening (VOMS) tool with performance on the computerized RightEye tracking system between SOF operators exposed to blast-related RHI and healthy controls without blast-related exposure. In addition, the study aimed to compare subgroups of snipers and breachers exposed to RHI to controls on the preceding metrics, as well as identify a subset of individual (demographic) factors, participant-reported symptoms, and performance metrics on VOMS and RightEye that best identify SOF operators exposed to RHI from unexposed controls. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study involved a cross-sectional design including 25 Canadian SOF SMs comprised of breachers (n = 9), snipers (n = 9), and healthy, unexposed controls (n = 7). The former 2 groups were combined into an RHI group (n = 18) and compared to controls (n = 7). Participants provided demographics and completed a self-reported concussion-related symptom report via the Military Acute Concussion Evaluation 2, the VOMS, and RightEye computerized eye-tracking assessments. Independent samples t-tests and ANOVAs were used to compare the groups on the outcomes, with receiver operating characteristic curve and area under the curve (AUC) analyses to identify predictors of blast exposure. This study was approved by the Defence Research Development Canada Human Research Ethics Committee and the Canadian Forces Surgeon General/Special Forces Command. RESULTS The results from t-tests supported group differences for age (P = .012), participant-reported symptoms (P = .006), and all VOMS items (P range = <.001-.02), with the RHI group being higher than healthy controls on all variables. ANOVA results supported group differences among snipers, breachers, and controls for age (P = .01), RightEye saccades (P = .04), participant-reported total symptom severity (P = .03), and VOMS total scores (P = .003). The results of the receiver operating characteristic curve analyses supported age (AUC = 0.81), Military Acute Concussion Evaluation 2 participant-reported total symptom severity (AUC = 0.87), and VOMS total scores (AUC = 0.92) as significant predictors of prior blast exposure. CONCLUSIONS Participant-reported concussion symptoms, VOMS scores, and age were useful in identifying SOF operators exposed to RHI from controls. RightEye metrics were not useful in differentiating RHI groups from controls. Differences between snipers and breachers warrant further research. Overall, the findings suggest that VOMS may be a useful tool for screening for the effects of exposure to RHI in SOF operators. Future investigations should be conducted on a larger sample of military SMs, consider additional factors (e.g., RHI exposure levels, medical history, and sex), and include additional assessment domains (e.g., balance, cognitive, and psychological).

Abstract
Purpose: This study: (1) Described the knowledge, attitudes, and reported behavior intentions of young recreational football players' parents toward concussion. (2) Investigated associations of the previous variables with parent demographics. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional design utilized an online platform to survey parents of children (8-14 yrs.) in three youth football leagues in the southern United States. Demographics collected included items such as sex or concussion history. Knowledge was assessed via true/false items, with higher scores (0-20) representing greater concussion understanding. 4-point Likert scales were used to describe parents attitudes (1 = not at all, 4 = very much), confidence in intended recognition/reporting (1 = not-confident, 4 = extremely confident), and agreement with intended reporting behaviors (1 = strong- disagreement, 4 = strong-agreement). Descriptive statistics were calculated for demographics. Mann-Whitney U test or Kruskal-Wallis Tests examined survey responses across demographics. Results: Respondents (n = 101) were primarily female (64.4%), white (81.2%), and participated in contact sport (83.2%). Parents averaged 15.9 ± 1.4 on concussion knowledge, with only 34.7% (n = 35) of parents scoring > 17/20. Statements that received the lowest average agreement (3.29/4) regarding reporting intent were related to emotional symptoms. Some parents (n = 42, 41.6%) reported low confidence in recognizing symptoms of a concussion in their child. Parent demographics did not have clinically significant associations with survey responses, with 6/7 demographic variables resulting in no statistical significance (p > .05). Conclusions: Although one-third of parents attained high knowledge scores, several reported low confidence in recognizing concussion symptoms in their children. Parents scored lower in agreement with removing their child from play when concussion symptoms were subjective. Youth sports organizations providing concussion education to parents should consider these results when revising their materials.

Abstract
Sport-related concussion (SRC) is a complex injury, and SRCs are notably prevalent among National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) athletes. We analysed SRCs and associated exposure data collected within the NCAA Injury Surveillance Program during 2014-2019. A total of 1,709 SRCs were reported with complete symptom profiles during the study period (Women's sports n = 499; Men's sports n = 1,210). Event type and academic class year most commonly predicted specific symptom presentations among athletes in men's sports, while symptom presentation among athletes in women's sports was most commonly predicted by class year and sport classification. We observed 78 and 69 significant pairwise symptom dependencies in men's and women's sports athletes, respectively; odds of longer symptom resolution time were higher with greater counts of symptoms with strongest cross-domain associations. Our findings highlight several contextual predictors of specific symptom presentations and identify parsimonious symptom subsets that may indicate protracted recovery among men's and women's sports athletes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The current evidence for acute management practices of sport-related concussion (SRC) is often limited to in-clinic visits, with limited studies identifying professionals in early SRC care and the association with prolonged recovery outcomes. PURPOSE To describe acute SRC management practices (ie, the personnel in the initial evaluations, removal from activity) and test the association with prolonged return to sport (RTS) time. STUDY DESIGN Descriptive epidemiology study. METHODS We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 17,081 high school SRCs accrued between the 2015-2016 and 2020-2021 academic years. We reported acute management practices and RTS time as frequencies stratified by sex, sport, and event type and compared athletic trainer (AT) access in initial evaluation with chi-square tests (P < .05). Separate logistic regressions estimated odds ratios (ORs) and 95% CIs for removal from activity and prolonged RTS >21 days by acute management practices. RESULTS Most SRCs (n = 12,311 [72.1%]) had complete initial evaluation by an AT. Boys had an AT evaluation in 75.5% (n = 2860/3787) of practice-related and 74.8% (n = 5551/7423) of competition-related events. Girls had an AT evaluation in 61.3% (n = 1294/2110) of practice-related and 69.3% (n = 2606/3761) of competition-related events. In sex-comparable sports (n = 6501), there was no difference between boys (n = 1654/2455 [67.4%]) and girls (n = 2779/4046 [68.7%]) having an AT involved in the first evaluation (χ2 = 1.21; P = .27). Notably, 25.3% of girls' SRCs were evaluated by a coach alone, and we observed differences in personnel in initial evaluations by sport. The odds of immediate removal were higher when an AT made the initial evaluation (OR, 2.8 [95% CI, 2.54-3.08]). The odds of prolonged RTS >21 days was lower for those with an AT in the initial evaluation (OR, 0.74 [95% CI, 0.65-0.84]) adjusting for significant factors from univariate analyses, boys relative to girls (OR, 0.85 [95% CI, 0.76-0.96]), specialty care relative to PCP (OR, 2.16 [95% CI, 1.90-2.46]), specialty care relative to urgent or ready care (OR, 0.99 [95% CI, 0.82-1.22]) concussion history (OR, 1.41 [95% CI, 1.22-1.63]), and removal from activity (OR, 0.90 [95% CI, 0.78-1.05]). CONCLUSION This study found variability in personnel involved in initial SRC evaluations, with higher percentages of athletes with SRCs having ATs make the initial evaluation during competitive events. There was no association between sex and AT involvement in comparable sports. There was an association between prolonged RTS and AT involvement, sex, concussion history, and location of follow-up care.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To provide athletic trainers and team physicians with updated recommendations to the 2014 National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) concussion position statement regarding concussion management, specifically in the areas of education, assessment, prognostic factors, mental health, return to academics, physical activity, rest, treatment, and return to sport. BACKGROUND Athletic trainers have benefited from the 2 previous NATA position statements on concussion management, and although the most recent NATA position statement is a decade old, knowledge gains in the medical literature warrant updating several (but not all) recommendations. Furthermore, in various areas of the body of literature, current evidence now exists to address items not adequately addressed in the 2014 statement, necessitating the new recommendations. This document therefore serves as a bridge from the 2014 position statement to the current state of concussion evidence, recommendations from other organizations, and discrepancies between policy and practice. RECOMMENDATIONS These recommendations are intended to update the state of the evidence concerning the management of patients with sport-related concussion, specifically in the areas of education; assessment advances; prognostic recovery indicators; mental health considerations; academic considerations; and exercise, activity, and rehabilitation management strategies.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Variability in return-to-duty (RTD) decision-making following mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is a threat to troop readiness. Current RTD assessments lack military-specific tasks and quantitative outcomes to inform stakeholders of a service member's (SM) capacity to successfully perform military duties. Augmented reality (AR), which places digital assets in a user's physical environment, provides a technological vehicle to deliver military-relevant tasks to a SM to be used in the RTD decision-making process. In addition to delivering digital content, AR headsets provide biomechanical data that can be used to assess the integrity of the central nervous system in movement control following mTBI. The objective of this study was to quantify cognitive and motor performance on an AR rifle qualification test (RQT) in a group of neurologically healthy military SMs. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data were collected from 111 healthy SMs who completed a basic (single-task) and complex (dual-task) RQT with a simulated M4 rifle. The complex scenario required the SM to perform the RQT while simultaneously answering arithmetic problems. Position data from the AR headset were used to capture postural sway, and the built-in microphone gathered responses to the arithmetic problems. RESULTS There were no differences in the number of targets hit, trigger pull reaction time, and transition time from kneeling to standing between the basic and complex scenarios. A significant worsening in postural sway following kneel-to-stand transition was observed in the complex scenario. The average reaction time to answer the arithmetic problems was nearly 2 times slower than the average reaction time to pull the trigger to a displayed target in the complex scenario. CONCLUSION The complex scenario provoked dual-task interference in SMs as evidenced by worsening postural sway and reaction time differences between the cognitive and motor tasks. An AR RQT provides objective and quantitative outcomes during a military-specific task. Greater precision in evaluating cognitive and motor performance during a military-relevant task has the potential to aid in the detection and management of SMs and their RTD following MTBI.

Abstract
Background: The Balance Error Scoring System (BESS) is a commonly used method for clinically evaluating balance after traumatic brain injury. The utilization of force plates, characterized by their cost-effectiveness and portability, facilitates the integration of instrumentation into the BESS protocol. Despite the enhanced precision associated with instrumented measures, there remains a need to determine the clinical significance and feasibility of such measures within pediatric cohorts. Objective: To report a comprehensive set of posturographic measures obtained during instrumented BESS and to examine the concurrent validity, reliability, and feasibility of instrumented BESS in the pediatric point of care setting. Methods: Thirty-seven participants (18 female; aged 13.32 ± 3.31 years) performed BESS while standing on a force plate to simultaneously compute stabilometric measures (instrumented BESS). Ellipse area (EA), path length (PL), and sway velocity (VM) were obtained for each of the six BESS positions and compared with the respective BESS scores. Additionally, the effects of sex and age were explored. A second BESS repetition was performed to evaluate the test-retest reliability. Feedback questionnaires were handed out after testing to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed protocol. Results: The BESS total score was 20.81 ± 6.28. While there was no statistically significant age or sex dependency in the BESS results, instrumented posturography demonstrated an age dependency in EA, VM, and PL. The one-leg stance on a soft surface resulted in the highest BESS score (8.38 ± 1.76), EA (218.78 cm2 ± 168.65), PL (4386.91 mm ± 1859.00), and VM (21.93 mm/s ± 9.29). The Spearman's coefficient displayed moderate to high correlations between the EA (rs = 0.429-0.770, p = 0.001-0.009), PL (rs = 0.451-0.809, p = 0.001-0.006), and VM (rs = 0.451-0.809, p = 0.001-0.006) when compared with the BESS scores for all testing positions, except for the one-leg stance on a soft surface. The BESS total score significantly correlated during the first and second repetition (rs = 0.734, p ≤ 0.001), as did errors during the different testing positions (rs = 0.489-0.799, p ≤ 0.001-0.002), except during the two-legged stance on a soft surface. VM and PL correlated significantly in all testing positions (rs = 0.465-0.675, p ≤ 0.001-0.004; (rs = 0.465-0.675, p ≤ 0.001-0.004), as did EA for all positions except for the two-legged stance on a soft surface (rs = 0.392-0.581, p ≤ 0.001-0.016). A total of 92% of participants stated that the instructions for the testing procedure were very well-explained, while 78% of participants enjoyed the balance testing, and 61% of participants could not decide whether the testing was easy or hard to perform. Conclusions: Instrumented posturography may complement clinical assessment in investigating postural control in children and adolescents. While the BESS score only allows for the consideration of a total score approximating postural control, instrumented posturography offers several parameters representing the responsiveness and magnitude of body sway as well as a more differentiated analysis of movement trajectory. Concise instrumented posturography protocols should be developed to augment neuropediatric assessments in cases where a deficiency in postural control is suspected, potentially stemming from disruptions in the processing of visual, proprioceptive, and/or vestibular information.

Abstract
CONTEXT Race has been shown to influence computerized neurocognitive test scores, motor function test scores, and reported symptomology following sport-related concussion (SRC). However, the effect race may have on recovery time following SRC remains unknown. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of race on days until symptom free from SRC in NCAA Division 1 collegiate athletes. DESIGN Prospective cohort study. METHODS Participants were Black (n = 53 [28% female]) and White (n = 150 [43.3% female]) who were on average 19.0 (1.21) and 20.2 (1.3) years of age, respectively. Data were collected from the 2015-2016 to 2020-2021 collegiate sport seasons. Participants were evaluated before and after an SRC at empirically derived time points. The primary outcome measure was time until symptom free (days). Additional outcomes included baseline and postinjury Immediate Postconcussion Assessment and Cognitive Test and Sensory Organization Test (SOT) scores. A Mann-Whitney U test compared days to symptom free between groups. Immediate Postconcussion Assessment and Cognitive Test and SOT outcome scores were analyzed using a 2 (group) × 2 (time) analysis of variance. RESULTS White participants had a longer median recovery time (9 d) to symptom free compared with Black participants (6 d [P = .04]). Statistically significant differences were observed between Black 87.3 (9.84) and White 90.4 (8.30) groups for Immediate Postconcussion Assessment and Cognitive Test's verbal memory composite score (P = .03). Postinjury, White participants scored significantly higher 44.5 (5.63) on visual motor speed compared with Black participants (42.4 (5.90) [P = .02]). Within-group SOT differences between baseline and postinjury testing were observed in both groups (all P < .001). CONCLUSIONS Black collegiate athletes achieved symptom resolution sooner than White athletes. We did not explore underlying sociocultural factors such as socioeconomic status or previous concussion education, which may have influenced our results. Future studies should explore factors that may contextualize these findings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE While recovery from concussion is variable, women are more likely to report symptoms, experience worse outcomes, and have longer recovery trajectories following concussion than men. Preliminary data suggest that hormonal fluctuations, specifically progesterone, may be associated with this variability. This study aimed to understand the effect of contraceptive medication on concussion recovery. METHODS A retrospective chart review using consensus-based common data elements was conducted at 11 NCAA institutions as part of the LIMBIC MATARS consortium. Participants included female collegiate athletes diagnosed with a concussion who did (n = 117) or did not report (n = 339) contraceptive medication use. Number of days between diagnosis and symptom resolution were compared using Mann-Whitney U tests. Self-reported diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, concussion history, anxiety, and depression was compared using Chi-squared tests. RESULTS The proportions of participants who did or did not take contraceptive medication were similar across covariates. Female athletes regardless of contraceptive medication use recovered similarly following a concussion. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that contraceptive medication use did not significantly impact concussion recovery. Future prospective investigations should examine documentation practices and operationalize terminology for hormonal contraceptive medication to better understand their role on recovery from sport-related concussion in female collegiate athletes.

Abstract
PURPOSE We investigated time to reach concussion diagnosis and recovery milestones in collegiate athletes relative to their schools' National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) classification. METHODS We retrospectively examined 849 (43.1% female) concussion cases from 11 NCAA institutions (Division I Power 5 [n = 4], Division I Non-Power 5 [n = 4], and Division II/III [n = 3]) from the 2015-16 to 2019-20 athletic seasons. Our primary outcome measures were days to reach specific clinical milestones following concussion. RESULTS Median (IQR) time from injury to diagnosis was significantly longer at Division II/III institutions (1 [0-4] days) compared to Division I Power 5 (0 [0-1] days) and Division I Non-Power 5 (0 [0-1] days) institutions (p < 0.001). Likewise, Division II/III athletes (15 [11-22] days) took significantly longer to return to sport after concussion than Division I Power 5 (10 [7-16] days) and Division I Non-Power 5 (11 [7-18.5] days) athletes (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Division II/III athletes had delayed concussion diagnoses and return to sport timelines compared to Division I athletes. Our results suggest that differences in sports medicine resources across NCAA divisions may influence injury recognition and recovery in collegiate athletes with concussion.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Investigate whether an athlete's biological sex and exposure to a dedicated athletic trainer (AT) were related to clinical milestones after a sports-related concussion (SRC). DESIGN Retrospective chart review. METHODS Medical charts of collegiate athletes (n = 196 [70.9% female]) diagnosed with SRC were reviewed to extract: biological sex, dedicated AT exposure for their sport (yes/no), and time (days) to reaching clinical milestones (diagnosis, symptom resolution, unrestricted return to sport [RTS]). Mann-Whitney U tests were used to determine whether time to clinical milestones differed by sex, AT exposure, or their interaction. Proportions of same-day diagnoses and times to diagnosis, symptom resolution, and unrestricted RTS were evaluated with chi-squared and spearman's rank correlations, respectively. RESULTS There were no significant differences in times to reaching any clinical milestone by sex, AT exposure, or their interaction (ps > 0.05). Forty-three percent of participants were diagnosed on the day of their SRC. This did not differ by sex or AT exposure (ps > 0.29). Longer times to SRC diagnosis were associated with more days to symptom resolution (ρ = 0.236, p = 0.001) and unrestricted RTS (ρ = 0.223, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Athlete sex and AT exposure were not associated with times to reach any clinical milestone; however, delayed diagnosis was associated with longer times to reach clinical recovery.

Abstract
Background Concussions are often accompanied by balance disturbances. Clinically accurate evaluation systems are often expensive, large, and inaccessible to most clinicians. The Sway Balance Mobile Application (SWAY) is an accessible method to quantify balance changes. Purpose To determine the known groups and convergent validity of the SWAY to assess balance after a concussion. Study Design Case-Control Study. Methods Twenty participants with acute concussion and twenty controls were recruited. At initial, one-week, and final return to activity (RTA) evaluations, all participants completed the Sports Concussion Assessment Tool (SCAT-5), and balance control measured by SWAY mBESS and NeuroCom Balance Master Sensory Organization Test (SOT). Mixed model ANOVAs were used to detect differences in SWAY mBESS and NeuroCom SOT scores with time (initial, one-week, final RTA) as the within-subjects factor and group (concussed, healthy) as the between-subjects factor. Spearman's Rho correlations explored the associations between NeuroCom SOT scores, SWAY scores, SCAT-5 symptom scores, and time in days to final RTA. Results The sampled population was predominantly male and age (20 ± 1), and BMI differences were insignificant between groups. The SWAY did not detect differences between healthy and concussed participants and did not detect change over time [F(2,40) = .114, p = 0.89; F(2,40)= .276, p =0.60]. When assessing the relationship between the SWAY and the SOT, no correlation was found at any time point (r = -0.317 to -0.062, p > 0.05). Time to RTA demonstrated a moderate correlation with both SCAT-5 symptom severity score (r = .693, p < 0.01) and SCAT-5 total symptom score (r = .611, p < 0.01) at the one-week follow-up. Conclusion The SWAY mBESS does not appear to be a valid balance assessment for the concussed patient. The SWAY mBESS in patients with concussion failed to demonstrate convergent validity and did not demonstrate an ability to validate known groups. When assessing the time to final RTA, the one-week post-initial assessment SCAT-5 symptom severity and total scores may help determine the length of recovery in this population. Abstract
CONTEXT The Child Sport Concussion Assessment Tool, fifth edition (SCAT5), remains the consensus instrument for concussion evaluation in youth athletes. Both child and parent are recommended to complete the athlete background and symptom reporting. OBJECTIVE To determine the level of agreement between child and parent medical history and symptom reporting and quantify their performance on the Child SCAT5 in male football athletes. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I college football facility. PATIENTS OR OTHER PARTICIPANTS A total of 157 youth male football athletes (age = 10.7 ± 1.3 years) participating in a university-sanctioned youth football camp and their parent or legal guardian. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) Youth athletes and their parent completed the athlete background (demographics, diagnosed medical history) and symptom evaluation (symptom items, total number of symptoms, and symptom severity score) of the Child SCAT5 and were instructed not to discuss reporting with each other during testing. Cronbach α tests were conducted to determine the internal consistency, and descriptive statistics determined the level of agreement between medical history, symptom reporting, and baseline performance. RESULTS The internal consistency of the symptom items was high for both child (Cronbach α = 0.91) and parent (α = 0.92). Agreement on medical history ranged from 67% (learning disability or dyslexia) to 85% (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder), with 82% agreement on sustaining a previous concussion. Fourteen youth athletes reported having been hospitalized for a head injury, with zero matched parent confirmations. Individual symptom agreement ranged from 70.7% (gets distracted easily) to 94.9% (going to faint). Agreement was 35% on total number of symptoms and severity. Abnormal scoring ranged from 2% (going to faint) to 25% (headache) for child and 2% (double vision) to 28% (gets distracted easily) for parent reporting. CONCLUSIONS Fair agreement was shown between children and their parent on medical history and self-reported symptoms on the Child SCAT5 at baseline. When available, child and parent reporting should be used for concussion assessment and clinical decision-making.

Abstract
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE To gain an understanding of current evaluation practices, post-injury recommendations, and referrals to allied healthcare professions (AHP) by first-line healthcare professionals (FHPs) providing care for people with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). RESEARCH DESIGN Survey study. METHODS AND PROCEDURES Physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and athletic trainers (n = 126) completed an online survey, including Likert scale and free response question relating to mTBI evaluation, management, and referral practices. MAIN OUTCOMES AND RESULTS FHPs surveyed reported being confident in their ability to evaluate patients with suspected mTBI, relying most heavily on patient-reported symptoms and physical signs as methods of evaluation. Most FHPs reported making recommendations to compensate for the symptoms experienced following mTBI diagnosis. In contrast, FHPs expressed challenges in the evaluation and management of symptoms associated with mTBI along with limited knowledge of and referrals to AHPs. CONCLUSIONS Overall, FHPs feel confident in the diagnosis of mTBI but experience assessment and management challenges. AHPs are underutilized on mTBI management teams calling for a need for multidisciplinary collaboration on research, education, and rehabilitation efforts to optimally care for people experiencing mTBI symptoms.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to determine the effect of exercise on cognitive and motor performance and the subsequent test-retest reliability of a novel dual-task (DT) assessment in nonconcussed college students. METHODS Sixty nonconcussed college students (53.3% female) with an average age (±SD) of 20.5 ± 1.34 yr, height of 171.7 ± 9.33 cm, and mass of 69.3 ± 12.23 kg were included in the study. Participants were assigned to an exercise ( n = 30) or rest ( n = 30) intervention group and completed two study visits that were separated by a 2-wk test-retest interval. At each visit, participants completed a novel DT assessment that consisted of the concurrent administration of the Standardized Assessment of Concussion (SAC) and tandem gait (TG) before the exercise or rest intervention. After the DT assessment at the first visit, participants in the exercise group performed moderate-intensity exercise, whereas the rest group sat quietly for 30 min. After the intervention, both groups were readministered the DT assessment. At the second visit, the same procedures were followed, except that each group was administered the opposite intervention (e.g., the exercise group completed the rest intervention). A composite TG (cTG) score was calculated by summing the average time to complete the TG pattern during each SAC domain (immediate memory, digits backwards, months in reverse order, delayed recall). An ANCOVA was conducted to assess postintervention differences while controlling for preintervention performance. Test-retest reliability was assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC 3,2 ) with 95% confidence intervals, with all analyses performed with α = 0.05. RESULTS SAC and cTG performance was similar ( P values > 0.05) from preintervention to postintervention for the rest or exercise protocols. Good (rest: ICC = 0.77 (0.62-0.87); exercise: ICC = 0.84 (0.73-0.90)) and excellent (rest: ICC = 0.97 (0.94-0.98); exercise: ICC = 0.93 (0.88-0.96)) test-retest reliabilities were observed for the SAC composite score and cTG score, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Our DT assessment was robust to the influence of moderate-intensity exercise and demonstrated good-to-excellent test-retest reliability in a healthy collegiate sample.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To examine level of play (LOP) as a risk factor for concussion severity and recovery-related outcomes among high school athletes, stratified by sex, and among boys, by sport (football, non-football male sports). DESIGN/SETTING Secondary analysis of data collected through the High School Reporting Information Online surveillance system for academic years 2007-2008 through 2018-2019. PARTICIPANTS A total of 9916 concussions were reported between the academic years 2007-2008 and 2018-2019 from 9 sports (5189 from football; 2096 from non-football male sports; 2631 from female sports). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE Examined the association between LOP (Freshman, Junior Varsity [JV], and Varsity teams) and concussion outcomes (number of concussion symptoms, symptom resolution time [SRT], and time to return to play [RTP]). RESULTS Compared with Varsity football athletes, concussed JV football athletes had on average 0.19 fewer concussion symptoms, longer SRT (>1 week vs <1 week: odds ratio [OR] = 1.3; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.1-1.5), and longer RTP (1-3 weeks vs <1 week: OR = 1.5; 95% CI, 1.2-1.9; >3 weeks vs <1 week: OR = 1.6; 95% CI, 1.1-2.3). Compared with Varsity football athletes, Freshman football athletes had on average 0.48 fewer concussion symptoms, longer SRT (OR = 1.3; 95% CI, 1.1-1.5), and longer RTP (1-3 weeks vs <1 week: OR = 1.5; 95% CI, 1.1-2.0; >3 weeks vs <1 week: OR = 2.0; 95% CI, 1.3-3.0). Similarly, compared with female athletes on Varsity teams, concussed JV female athletes had longer RTP (1-3 weeks vs <1 week: OR = 1.8; 95% CI, 1.2-2.7). Trend analyses revealed an increase in the number of concussion symptoms between 2015-2016 and 2018-2019, a decrease between 2009-2010 and 2018-2019 for SRT of less than 1 week, and an increase between 2014-2015 and 2018-2019 for RTP of less than 1 week among Varsity football athletes. Among Varsity female athletes, there was a linear decrease during the study period for RTP of less than 1 week. CONCLUSIONS Despite a higher number of symptoms overall and in recent years, Varsity football players had shorter RTP than Freshman and JV athletes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to determine sex differences in recovery trajectories of assessments for sport-related concussion using Concussion Assessment, Research and Education (CARE) Consortium data. METHODS National Collegiate Athletic Association athletes (N = 906; 61% female) from sex-comparable sports completed a pre-season baseline assessment and post-sport-related concussion assessments within 6 h of injury, 24-48 h, when they initiated their return to play progression, when they were cleared for unrestricted return to play, and 6 months post-injury. Assessments included the Standardized Assessment of Concussion, Balance Error Scoring System, Brief Symptom Inventory-18, Immediate Post-concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing (ImPACT), Sport Concussion Assessment Tool-3 symptom evaluation, Clinical Reaction Time, King-Devick test, Vestibular Ocular Motor Screen, 12-item Short-Form Health Survey, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and Satisfaction with Life Scale. RESULTS Only the Vestibular Ocular Motor Screen Total Symptom Score at the 24-48 h timepoint (p = 0.005) was statistically significantly different between sexes. Specifically, female athletes (mean = 60.2, 95% confidence interval [CI] 51.5-70.4) had higher Vestibular Ocular Motor Screen Total Symptom Scores than male athletes (mean = 36.9, 95% CI 27.6-49.3), but this difference resolved by the time of return-to-play initiation (female athletes, mean = 1.8, 95% CI 1.1-2.9; male athletes, mean = 4.1, 95% CI 1.5-10.9). CONCLUSIONS Sport-related concussion recovery trajectories for most assessments were similar for female and male National Collegiate Athletic Association athletes except for Vestibular Ocular Motor Screen symptoms within 48 h of sport-related concussion, which was greater in female athletes. Female athletes had a greater symptom burden across all timepoints, suggesting that cross-sectional observations may indicate sex differences despite similar recovery trajectories.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to determine athletic trainer compliance with emergency medicine and athletic training evidence-based guidelines for the on-the-field management of common pediatric sports-related injury and illness. METHODS A questionnaire was distributed electronically to selected members of the National Athletic Trainer Association. The questionnaire included 10 clinical scenarios describing common sports-related injury/illness (closed head injury, cervical spine injury, blunt chest injury, blunt abdominal injury, ankle injury, knee injury with laceration, heat-related illness). On-the-field management decisions for each scenario were compared with selected emergency medicine and athletic training guidelines. RESULTS Analysis was performed on 564 completed questionnaires (9% response rate). Responders were compliant with practice guidelines for both emergency medicine and athletic training except for blunt chest trauma with tachycardia, closed head injury with loss of consciousness, closed head injury with repetitive speech, closed head injury with a fall higher than 5 feet, cervical spine injury with paresthesias, and heat-related illness with persistent symptoms. Discrepancies between emergency medicine and athletic training guidelines included closed head injury with repetitive speech, closed head injury and height of fall, closed head injury and unequal pupils, and cervical spine injury with neck pain and paresthesias. CONCLUSIONS Based on our sample, athletic trainers were compliant with many guidelines supported by both emergency medicine and athletic training. We identified several deficiencies in the availability of evidence-based guidelines and discrepancies between these guidelines and athletic trainer responses. To provide optimal care to pediatric athletes who sustain injury or illness, emergency medicine and athletic training organizations should collaborate to improve these discrepancies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Research on the neurocognitive effects of comorbid mood/anxiety disturbance in college athletes is limited. Previous research found that athletes with comorbid depression/anxiety performed worse on measures of attention/processing speed (A/PS) at baseline compared to healthy controls. However, this work solely examined mean performance. The current study expands upon this work by examining intraindividual variability (IIV) in relation to affective disturbance. METHOD 835 (M = 624, F = 211) collegiate athletes completed baseline neuropsychological testing. Athletes were separated into four groups (Healthy Mood [n = 582], Depression Alone [n = 137], Anxiety Alone [n = 54], and Co-Occurring Depression/Anxiety [n = 62]) based on self-reported anxiety and depression. IIV was examined globally and within composites of A/PS and memory via intraindividual standard deviation, with higher scores indicating greater variability. RESULTS Linear regression results revealed that the Co-Occurring Depression/Anxiety group exhibited greater variability within the memory composite compared to the Healthy Mood group, as well as the Depression Alone and Anxiety Alone groups. The Depression Alone and Anxiety Alone groups did not differ from the Healthy Mood group on memory IIV. None of the groups differed on A/PS or global IIV. CONCLUSIONS Athletes with co-occurring depression/anxiety demonstrated greater variability in performance on memory tasks. Greater dispersion is predictive of greater cognitive decline following concussion; therefore, it is important that neuropsychological performance is interpreted beyond measures of central tendency. These findings also highlight the importance of having baseline data available for athletes with affective disturbance, as these factors may influence performance, place athlete at risk for poorer outcomes, and skew future post-concussion comparisons.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Concussion is a growing public health concern given the large number of youth and collegiate athletes participating in collision sports. Sport-related concussions can have an adverse impact on student-athletes' health and academic performance. Athletic programs within academic organizations are motivated to employ the most effective and efficient diagnostic and recovery procedures to minimize the duration and impact of these symptoms on student-athletes' functioning. The present study sought to further our understanding regarding the value and frequency of conducting baseline assessments when evaluating sport-related concussions. METHOD A total of 41 athletes (24 men, 17 women) between the ages of 18 and 22 were evaluated following suspected concussive injury between 2015 and 2018. Post-injury test results were compared to baselines that had been collected either 1 or 2 years prior, and to normative data, to determine consistency in diagnostic outcomes. RESULTS Baseline test/retest reliability using Pearson's bivariate correlations revealed modest correlations on measures of verbal and visual memory (0.437-0.569) and very strong correlations on measures of reaction time and visual-motor speed (0.811-0.821). Meanwhile, minimal if any differences in clinical decision-making regarding the diagnostic outcome was observed when comparing post-injury test results to different baselines and to normative data. CONCLUSIONS Findings indicate that yearly baseline testing may not improve diagnostic accuracy, and in many cases, normative data may be adequate for decision-making. Additional research should evaluate the potential benefit of baseline testing in return-to-play decision-making among broader athletic populations.

Abstract
The recovery trajectories of collegiate athletes with sport-related concussion (SRC) are well characterized in contact/collision sports but are less well understood in limited contact sports with lower risk, reducing the ability of clinicians to effectively manage the return-to-play (RTP) process. The current study investigated the time to asymptomatic and RTP across a broad range of male and female collegiate sports and sought to group sports by recovery intervals. Data from the Concussion Assessment, Research and Education (CARE) Consortium included 1049 collegiate athletes who sustained a SRC while participating in game or practice/training of their primary sport. Injury setting and subsequent clinical presentation data were obtained. Survival analysis using the Cox Proportional Hazard model estimated the median recovery times for each sport. Optimal univariate K-means clustering grouped sports into recovery categories. Across all sports, median time to asymptomatic following SRC ranged from 5.9 (female basketball) to 8.6 days (male wrestling). Median RTP protocol duration ranged from 4.9 days (female volleyball) to 6.3 days (male wrestling). Median total RTP days ranged from 11.2 days (female lacrosse) to 16.9 days (male wrestling). Sport clusters based on recovery differences in time to asymptomatic (3) and RTP protocol duration (2) were identified. The findings from this study of a large sample of more than 1000 NCAA collegiate athletes with SRC show there exists ranges in recovery trajectories. Clinicians can thus manage athletes with similar guidelines, with individualized treatment and recovery plans.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is prevalent in service members (SMs); however, there is a lack of consensus on the appropriate approach to return to duty (RTD). Head-mounted augmented reality technology, such as the HoloLens 2, can create immersive, salient environments to more effectively evaluate relevant military task performance. The Troop Readiness Evaluation with Augmented Reality Return-to-Duty (READY) platform was developed to objectively quantify cognitive and motor performance during military-specific activities to create a comprehensive approach to aid in mTBI detection and facilitate appropriate RTD. The aim of this project was to detail the technical development of the Troop READY platform, the outcomes, and its potential role in the aiding detection and RTD decision-making post mTBI. The secondary aim included evaluating the safety, feasibility, and SM usability of the Troop READY platform. MATERIALS AND METHODS The Troop READY platform comprises three assessment modules of progressing complexity: (1) Static and Dynamic Mobility, (2) Rifle Qualification Test, and (3) Small Unit Operations Capacity-Room Breach/Clearing Exercise. The modules were completed by 137 active duty SMs. Safety was assessed through monitoring of adverse events. Feasibility was assessed using the self-directed module completion rate. Usability was measured using the Systems Usability Scale. RESULTS No adverse events occurred. Completion rates of the three modules ranged from 98 to 100%. In terms of usability, the mean Systems Usability Scale score of all participants was 83.92 (13.95), placing the Troop READY platform in the good-to-excellent category. Objective motor and cognitive outcomes were generated for each module. CONCLUSION The Troop READY platform delivers self-directed, salient assessment modules to quantify single-task, dual-task, and unit-based performance in SMs. The resultant data provide insight into SM performance through objective outcomes and identify specific areas of executive or motor function that may be slow to recover following mTBI.

Abstract
CONTEXT Collegiate club-sport athletes participate in a variety of competitive sports and have been understudied in the concussion literature. Baseline performance measures are warranted to better understand assessment and management. OBJECTIVE To quantify normative values and the effects of modifying factors sex, concussion history, diagnosed attention disabilities (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder [ADHD]), and sport type on baseline symptom evaluation among collegiate club-sport athletes. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING Retrospective chart review. PATIENTS OR OTHER PARTICIPANTS A total of 1034 collegiate club-sport athletes (N = 649 males, 62.7%) from 29 sports at a single institution. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) Chart reviews were conducted for club-sport athletes who completed athlete background and symptom information on the Sport Concussion Assessment Tool-5th edition as a baseline concussion assessment during a single academic year. Demographics (eg, age, sex, sport), background medical information (eg, concussion history, ADHD), and symptom evaluation, consisting of individual 22-item symptom reports, the total number of symptoms, symptom severity scores, and symptom factors (eg, physical, cognitive, insomnia, and emotional), were analyzed. RESULTS On baseline symptom reporting, 68% of club-sport athletes were asymptomatic, with mild symptoms described by 3% to 12% and moderate or severe symptoms by ≤4%. Modifier groups differed with a higher total number of symptoms and symptom severity in females (P < .001), individuals reporting a history of concussion (P < .001), and those with ADHD (total number P = .04, symptom severity P = .02). Similar significant findings were noted for females and the history of concussion group on all 4 symptom factors; however, those in collision or contact sports also indicated greater cognitive (P = .03) and insomnia (P = .02) factors. Those with ADHD endorsed more cognitive (P < .001) factors. CONCLUSIONS Normative symptoms for a collegiate club-sport sample revealed approximately 70% were asymptomatic. Higher total number of symptoms and symptom severity were demonstrated by females and those with a history of concussion. Cognitive-specific symptoms were greater in those diagnosed with ADHD and those who participated in collision or contact sports.

Abstract
Objective: Concussion evaluations use a multidimensional assessment to evaluate unique patient function dimensions (e.g., subjective symptoms differ from balance assessments), but the overarching latent factor structure has not been empirically substantiated. Our objective was to determine the cumulative latent factor structure of pre-injury baseline and acute (<48-h) post-concussion assessment battery outcomes, and determine measurement equivalence among common factors in collegiate student-athletes. Methods: Collegiate student-athletes at baseline (n = 21,865) and post-concussion (n = 1,537) across 25-institutions completed standardized assessments. Individual items were used from the baseline and post-concussion assessments and consisted of: Sport Concussion Assessment Tool, Brief Symptom Inventory-18, Standardized Assessment of Concussion, Balance Error Scoring System, Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Test, and vestibular-ocular motor screening. Exploratory factor analysis was used on half the baseline data, and confirmatory factor analysis on the remaining baseline data and post-concussion data separately. Measurement equivalence was assessed between sex, sport contact classification, concussion history, and time. Results: A 10-factor exploratory model was established and comprised of: depression, somatic, vestibulo-ocular, headache, postural stability, neurocognition, emotional, fatigue, cognitive, consciousness clouding. The 10-factor model was confirmed at baseline and post-concussion with strong measurement equivalence between timepoints. Strong to strict measurement equivalence was observed for sex, sport contact classification, and concussion history at both timepoints separately. Conclusion: Our findings established a robust 10-factor latent factor model equivalent across timepoints and common factors among healthy and concussed collegiate athletes. Clinicians can use these findings to target specific factors while reducing redundant elements to provide efficient, comprehensive post-concussion assessments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The literature on athletes with positive head computed tomography (HCT) findings in the setting of sport head injuries remains sparse. OBJECTIVE To report the proportions of athletes with a positive HCT and compare acute injury characteristics and recovery between those with and without a positive HCT. METHODS A retrospective, single-institution, cohort study was performed with all athletes aged 12 to 23 years seen at a regional concussion center from 11/2017 to 04/2022. The cohort was dichotomized into positive vs negative HCT (controls). Acute injury characteristics (ie, loss of consciousness and amnesia) and recovery, as measured by days to return-to-learn (RTL), symptom resolution, and return-to-play (RTP) were compared. χ 2 and Mann-Whitney U tests were performed. RESULTS Of 2061 athletes, 226 (11.0%) received an HCT and 9 (4.0%) had positive findings. HCT findings included 4 (44.4%) subdural hematomas, 1 (11.1%) epidural hematoma, 2 (22.2%) facial fractures, 1 (11.1%) soft tissue contusion, and 1 (11.1%) cavernous malformation. All 9 (100.0%) athletes were treated nonoperatively and successfully returned-to-play at a median (IQR) of 73.0 (55.0-82.0) days. No differences in loss of consciousness or amnesia were seen between positive HCT group and controls. The Mann-Whitney U test showed differences in RTL (17.0 vs 4.0 days; U = 45.0, P = .016) and RTP (73.0 vs 27.0 days; U = 47.5, P = .007) but not in symptom resolution. Our subanalysis showed no differences across all recovery metrics between acute hemorrhages and controls. CONCLUSION Among athletes seen at a regional concussion center who underwent an acute HCT, positive findings were seen in 4%. Although athletes with a positive HCT had longer RTL and RTP, symptom resolution was similar between those with a positive and negative HCT. All athletes with a positive HCT successfully returned to play. Despite a more conservative approach to athletes with a positive HCT, clinical outcomes are similar between those with and without a positive HCT.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Concussions, categorized as mild traumatic brain injuries, result from traumatic events and present a significant concern within the field of traumatic brain injuries. Understanding the multifaceted pathophysiology of concussions, their diverse symptomatology, and their appropriate management strategies is crucial for healthcare professionals. This study explores the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of medical students at King Faisal University in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia regarding concussions. METHODS A cross-sectional study design was employed to assess a diverse group of medical students at King Faisal University in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Participants were surveyed using a questionnaire covering socio-demographic information, knowledge assessment, attitude assessment, and behavior assessment. RESULTS Of the 315 participants, 68.3% demonstrated good knowledge about concussions. Participants generally recognized concussions as a type of traumatic brain injury (68.9%) and believed it was necessary to report concussion symptoms to a doctor (80.3%). However, certain misconceptions existed, such as the belief that all patients with concussion should rest for seven days (31.7%). Participants primarily obtained information from teachers (100%) and the internet and social media (81.6%). CONCLUSION While medical students at King Faisal University in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia generally exhibited good knowledge about concussions, specific knowledge gaps and misconceptions were seen to exist. To ensure comprehensive understanding and promote appropriate management, continuous education, and awareness campaigns are essential, with healthcare providers playing a pivotal role in knowledge dissemination.

Abstract
The term concussion has permeated mainstream media and household vocabulary mainly due to awareness regarding the risks of concussion in professional contact sports, yet it occurs across a variety of settings and ages. Concussion is prevalent in infants, preschoolers, children, and adolescents, and is a common presentation or reason for referral to primary care providers, emergency departments, and specialised trauma clinics. Its broad range of symptoms and sequelae vary according to multiple individual, environmental, and clinical factors and can lead to health and economic burden. More than 20 years of research into risk factors and consequences of paediatric concussion has revealed as many questions as answers, and scientific work and clinical cases continue to expose its complexity and heterogeneity. In this Review, we present empirical evidence for improving outcome after paediatric concussion. We consider work pertaining to both sports and other injury mechanisms to provide a perspective that should be viewed as complementary to publications focused specifically on sports concussion. Contemporary challenges in prevention, diagnosis, prognosis, and intervention are discussed alongside pathways and future directions for improving outcome.

Abstract
Background Soccer is unique among sports because it is the only sport that involves purposeful use of the head to control, pass, or shoot the ball. Over the previous five years, a relationship between lower extremity (LE) injury and sports related concussion (SRC) has been established in various sporting populations. Athletes at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels have demonstrated a greater risk for sustaining a LE injury post SRC. The purpose of this systematic review was to examine the relationship of the SRC with the incidence of LE injuries. Methods Ten databases were searched with the following keywords: Lower limb, ball heading, neuromuscular control, concussion, MEDLINE, Ovid MEDLINE(R) Daily, and Ovid MEDLINE(R), EMBASE, and Scopus. The search was limited to English-language and peer-reviewed publications, until 15/12/2022. The PEDro scale was used for the assessment of the risk of bias among the included studies. All included papers were qualitatively analyzed. Results A total of 834 studies were identified and 10 articles (four concussion-MSK biomechanics, six concussion-MSK injury) were included in the qualitative analyses. Included papers ranged from low to high quality. Due to the heterogeneous nature of the included study designs, quantitative meta-analysis was unable to be performed. All four of the included concussion-MSK biomechanics studies demonstrated, to some degree, that worse cognitive performance was associated with lower extremity MSK biomechanical patterns suggestive of greater risk for MSK injury. Among the six injury related studies, two investigations failed to determine group differences in cognitive performance between subsequently injured and non-injured athletes. Conclusion More research is needed to better understand the relationship of SRC and lower extremity injuries and the extent to which they are related to concussions and/or repetitive neurotrauma after ball heading sustained in soccer. Abstract
Background: Sport-related concussion (SRC) is a common sport injury. Females are participating in sports at increasing rates, and there is growing awareness that female athletes may be more vulnerable to SRC. Objectives: We aimed to identify sex differences in epidemiology, clinical manifestation and assessment of SRC and examine how these relate to the 6th International Conference on Concussion in Sport (ICCS). Methods: We conducted a scoping review of the Medline database and identified 58 studies examining the effects of sex on SRC in collegiate and high school athletes that were written in English and published in a peer-reviewed journal between March 2012 and March 2022. Results: We found that female athletes suffer higher rates of concussion in sex-comparable sports, in particular soccer. Female athletes experience more somatic symptoms-headache/migraine/sleep disturbance-and may take longer to recover from concussion. Sex differences were also identified regarding some aspects of sideline concussion assessment with the Sport Concussion Assessment Tool. Conclusions: Females are at greater risk and experience SRC differently than males; this is mostly likely due to a combination of biomechanical factors, differences in neck musculature and hormonal and social factors. Sex differences are not widely addressed by the 6th ICSS, which informs many sports' concussion protocols.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The endorsement of symptoms upon initiation of a graduated return-to-activity (GRTA) protocol has been associated with prolonged protocols. It is unclear whether there are specific symptom clusters affecting protocol durations. PURPOSE To describe the endorsement of specific concussion symptom clusters at GRTA protocol initiation and examine the association between symptom cluster endorsement and GRTA protocol duration. STUDY DESIGN Cohort study; Level of evidence, 2. METHODS This study was conducted among cadets enrolled at 3 US service academies. Participants completed an evaluation upon GRTA protocol initiation. Participants endorsing symptoms were binarized based on 6 symptom clusters (cognitive, emotional, insomnia, physical, sensitivity, and ungrouped). The primary outcome of interest was GRTA protocol duration based on symptom cluster endorsement severity. Prevalence rates were calculated to describe symptom cluster endorsement. Kaplan-Meier survival estimates and univariate and multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression models were calculated for all 6 symptom clusters to estimate GRTA protocol duration while controlling for significant covariates. RESULTS Data from 961 concussed participants were analyzed. Of these, 636 participants were asymptomatic upon GRTA protocol initiation. Among the 325 symptomatic participants, the physical symptom cluster (80%) was most endorsed, followed by the cognitive (29%), insomnia (23%), ungrouped (19%), sensitivity (15%), and emotional (9%) clusters. Univariate results revealed a significant association between endorsing cognitive (hazard ratio [HR], 0.79; p = .001), physical (HR, 0.84; p < .001), insomnia (HR, 0.83; p = .013), sensitivity (HR, 0.70; p < .001), and ungrouped (HR, 0.75; p = .005) symptom clusters and GRTA protocol duration. Endorsing physical (HR, 0.84; p < .001) and sensitivity (HR, 0.81; p = .036) clusters maintained a significant association with GRTA protocol duration in the multivariable models. CONCLUSION Participants endorsing physical or sensitivity symptom clusters displayed GRTA protocols prolonged by 16% to 19% compared with participants not endorsing that respective cluster after controlling for significant covariates.

Abstract
Background Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) predominantly prioritise treatment and cost-effectiveness, which encourages a universal approach that may not address the circumstances of disadvantaged groups. We aimed to advance equity and quality of care for individuals experiencing homelessness and traumatic brain injury (TBI) by assessing the extent to which homelessness and TBI are integrated in CPGs for TBI and CPGs for homelessness, respectively, and the extent to which equity, including consideration of disadvantaged populations and the PROGRESS-Plus framework, is considered in these CPGs. Methods For this systematic review, CPGs for TBI or homelessness were identified from electronic databases (MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO), targeted websites, Google Search, and reference lists of eligible CPGs on November 16, 2021 and March 16, 2023. The proportion of CPGs that integrated evidence regarding TBI and homelessness was identified and qualitative content analysis was conducted to understand how homelessness is integrated in CPGs for TBI and vice versa. Equity assessment tools were utilised to understand the extent to which equity was considered in these CPGs. This review is registered with PROSPERO (CRD42021287696). Findings Fifty-eight CPGs for TBI and two CPGs for homelessness met inclusion criteria. Only three CPGs for TBI integrated evidence regarding homelessness by recognizing the prevalence of TBI in individuals experiencing homelessness and identifying housing as a consideration in the assessment and management of TBI. The two CPGs for homelessness acknowledged TBI as prevalent and recognised individuals experiencing TBI and homelessness as a disadvantaged population that should be prioritised in guideline development. Equity was rarely considered in the content and development of CPGs for TBI. Interpretation Considerations for equity in CPGs for homelessness and TBI are lacking. To ensure that CPGs reflect and address the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness and TBI, we have identified several guideline development priorities. Namely, there is a need to integrate evidence regarding homelessness and TBI in CPGs for TBI and CPGs for homelessness, respectively and engage disadvantaged populations in all stages of guideline development. Further, this review highlights an urgent need to conduct research focused on and with disadvantaged populations. Abstract
BACKGROUND Concussions or musculoskeletal injuries may impair postural control, which is one diagnostic to help determine return-to-activity decisions. Postural control may be affected by diurnal rhythm. RESEARCH QUESTION Does time of day influence postural control as measured by two Neurocom Balance Master diagnostic protocols, the Modified Clinical Test of Sensory Interaction on Balance (mCTSIB) and the Stability Evaluation Test (SET)? METHODS Following Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval, consented participants completed the SET and mCTSIB twice: between 0700 and 1000; and between 1600 and 1900. We randomized and balanced testing order. Familiarization trials were completed for the mCTSIB and SET. Assessments were completed in a controlled laboratory environment. We instructed participants to get a normal night's sleep prior to testing and refrain from caffeine use and exhaustive exercise on the day of testing. Sixty-nine participants (48 female, 21 male: age = 21.42±2.56 years, height = 168.20±7.53 cm, mass = 72.05±16.60 kg) completed the study. Thirty-one of the participants were National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes (NAIA) student-athletes from the sports of baseball, soccer and softball. Average postural sway velocity was measured and compared by time of day for each of the balance conditions in the mCTSIB and SET protocols. RESULTS According to repeated measures ANOVA, there were no significant postural sway velocity main effects by time of day for any of the balance conditions. We found significant postural sway main effects by foam, stance and eyes. We also noted significant ANOVA between participants' differences for athlete status, but not for sex. SIGNIFICANCE These results inform practitioners about the importance of controlling time-of-day between baseline and post-injury testing, which may allow for more flexible, accurate and reliable diagnosis and return-to-activity decisions. Athletes displayed better static postural control, possibly warranting different normative values for diagnostic comparison.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Current medical practices and recommendations largely ignore the safety of postconcussion driving, even though commonly used measures of neurocognition, balance, and vestibulo-ocular function show impairment. PURPOSE To compare simulated driving between patients with concussion and controls throughout concussion recovery using a case-control design. STUDY DESIGN Cohort study; Level of evidence, 2. METHODS A total of 26 concussed and 23 control Division I collegiate athletes completed a driving simulation assessment at 3 time points (within 72 hours, asymptomatic, and return to sport). Cumulative driving simulation outcome variables included total number of collisions, speed exceedances, stop signs missed, lane excursions, total drive time, percentage of time over the speed limit, and percentage of time out of the lane. The mean speed, standard deviation of speed (SDS), lateral lane position, and standard deviation of lateral lane position (SDLP) were examined for each of the 11 drive segments. Outcomes were compared using generalized linear mixed models with random intercepts by participant with Poisson or normal distributions. RESULTS Within 72 hours of injury, the concussion group committed more lane excursions (median difference, 2; P = .003), exhibited greater SDS while avoiding a child pedestrian crossing the road (Cohen d = 0.73; P = .011), drove ~7 inches (~18 cm) closer to the centerline during a residential left curve (d = 0.90; P = .015), and had greater SDLP while navigating around a car crash compared with controls (d = 0.72; P = .016). When asymptomatic, the concussion group committed fewer speed exceedances (median difference, 2; P = .002) and had lower SDLP while navigating through a traffic light compared with controls (d = 0.60; P = .045). No differences were evident at return to sport. Groups did not differ in total collisions at any time point. CONCLUSION The concussion group showed more impaired driving patterns within 72 hours of injury, drove more conservatively once asymptomatic, and had similar driving performance at the time they returned fully to sport. Clinicians should consider these findings when discussing driving with patients acutely after concussion. Further research is needed to determine whether on-road collision risk is elevated after concussion.

Abstract
CONTEXT A mobile application neurocognitive assessment has been used in place of equipment intensive computerized neurocognitive assessment protocol. A previous study reported high to very high test-retest reliability of neurocognitive assessment using the mobile application in healthy adults, but no studies have examined test-retest reliability, reliable change indices (RCIs), and sex effect in middle school and high school populations when conducted 1 year apart. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to examine the test-retest reliability and RCIs of baseline data collected at 2-time points approximately 1 year apart using a mobile application neurocognitive rest in middle school and high school athletes. The secondary purpose of the study was to investigate the sex difference in neurocognitive measures. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING Institutional. PATIENTS OR OTHER PARTICIPANTS 172 middle school and high school healthy student-athletes (mean age=13.78±1.59 years old). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) Mobile application neurocognitive rest scores (reaction time, impulse control, inspection, and memory). RESULTS The result from the study demonstrated that neurocognitive measures had low test-retest reliability across a 1-year time period in middle and high school settings. Upon retesting, reaction time and inspection time improved significantly in both middle and high school athletes, and impulse control showed significant improvement in middle school athletes. More athletes in middle school showed more RCI improvements compared to high school athletes. While both males and females demonstrated improvements in neurocognitive measures throughout adolescence, males outperformed females on reaction time and impulse control. CONCLUSIONS Findings from the study indicate unacceptably low test-retest reliability of a mobile application neurocognitive test most likely due to cognitive development occurring throughout adolescence. Additionally, significant RCIs were noted. These naturally occurring improvements due to cognitive development could mask the post-concussion deficits. The findings warrant consideration of age and sex on the neurocognitive performance of middle and high school athletes.

Abstract
Concussion induces the rapid onset of a short-lived neurophysiological disturbance that often results in autonomic nervous system dysfunction. This dysfunction affects both cardiovascular functioning and higher cognitive processing, inducing postconcussion clinical symptoms (somatic, cognitive, or emotional or a combination) and functional disturbances (impaired balance, cognition, and visual-vestibular performance). Current concussion rehabilitation paradigms using aerobic exercise may improve concussion symptoms. Additionally, cognitive training-focused rehabilitation interventions may enhance cognitive function postinjury. Though aerobic exercise and cognitive training-based concussion rehabilitation are successful independently, the multifaceted nature of concussion suggests the potential benefit of integrating both to improve concussion outcomes and clinician implementation. To support this clinical recommendation, we critiqued the existing research in which authors investigated aerobic exercise and cognitive training as postconcussion rehabilitation modalities, identified keys gaps in the literature, and proposed a practical clinical recommendation to integrate both modalities during concussion rehabilitation.

Abstract
Authors of previous studies commonly used a multiselect checklist method to assess an athlete's ability to recognize true sport-related concussion (SRC) signs and symptoms (S&S) among incorrect distractor options. However, this may overinflate the evaluation of participants' knowledge because the multiselect method does not test athletes' ability to retrieve knowledge from their long-term memory. To examine this hypothesis, we sent an online survey to registered members of the Japan Lacrosse Association (n = 8530) to assess differences in reported SRC S&S by open-ended-question and multiselect formats. We also evaluated whether previous exposure to SRC education and a history of SRC influenced athletes' SRC S&S knowledge. The numbers and proportions of responses were calculated using descriptive statistics. The Pearson correlation was calculated to analyze the relationship between scores from the 2 question formats. Unpaired-samples t tests were conducted to compare the mean scores for each question format by previous SRC education and history of diagnosed SRC. Odds ratios were computed to express the relationship between the proportion of correct answers by question format per symptom. The response rate of the survey was 35.9% (n = 3065), and scores from the 2 question formats were correlated (r = 0.34, 95% CI = 0.31, 0.37; P < .001). For both question formats, athletes with previous exposure to SRC education and a history of SRC had a greater number of correct answers; however, the mean differences were trivial. Researchers and clinicians should acknowledge the difference between multiselect (recognition) and open-ended (free recall) formats when assessing one's understanding of SRC and managing athletes with a suspected SRC.

OBJECTIVE To define the time frames, measures used and modifying factors influencing recovery, return to school/learn (RTL) and return to sport (RTS) after sport-related concussion (SRC). DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis. DATA SOURCES 8 databases searched through 22 March 2022. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Studies with diagnosed/suspected SRC and interventions facilitating RTL/RTS or investigating the time and modifying factors for clinical recovery. Outcomes included days until symptom free, days until RTL and days until RTS. We documented study design, population, methodology and results. Risk of bias was evaluated using a modified Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network tool. RESULTS 278 studies were included (80.6% cohort studies and 92.8% from North America). 7.9% were considered high-quality studies, while 23.0% were considered high risk of bias and inadmissible. The mean days until symptom free was 14.0 days (95% CI: 12.7, 15.4; I2=98.0%). The mean days until RTL was 8.3 (95% CI: 5.6, 11.1; I2=99.3%), with 93% of athletes having a full RTL by 10 days without new academic support. The mean days until RTS was 19.8 days (95% CI: 18.8, 20.7; I2=99.3%), with high heterogeneity between studies. Several measures define and track recovery, with initial symptom burden remaining the strongest predictor of longer days until RTS. Continuing to play and delayed access to healthcare providers were associated with longer recovery. Premorbid and postmorbid factors (eg, depression/anxiety, migraine history) may modify recovery time frames. Though point estimates suggest that female sex or younger age cohorts take longer to recover, the heterogeneity of study designs, outcomes and overlap in CIs with male sex or older age cohorts suggests that all have similar recovery patterns. CONCLUSION Most athletes have full RTL by 10 days but take twice as long for an RTS. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER CRD42020159928.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Return-to-school processes indicate 'when' to initiate activities and 'what' activities should be accomplished, but are missing 'how' to implement the process. The SCHOOLFirst website provides the 'how' through building concussion knowledge, creating a supportive culture and defining roles. Due to the involvement of pre-service teachers in schools during training and imminent transition to becoming teachers, it is important that pre-service teachers are trained in concussion and can optimally support current and future students. OBJECTIVE To determine: 1) pre-service teachers' knowledge and confidence surrounding the return-to-school process before and after using the SCHOOLFirst website; 2) the usability, intended use and satisfaction of the SCHOOLFirst website from the perspective of pre-service teachers. METHODS Thirty pre-service teachers completed the demographic survey, knowledge and confidence survey, System Usability Scale, and satisfaction and intended use survey after participating in a workshop. RESULTS Significant increases in concussion knowledge (Z = -4.093, p < 0.001) and confidence in helping students return-to-school (Z = -4.620, p < 0.001) were measured after using the SCHOOLFirst website. Participants were satisfied with the SCHOOLFirst website (93.4%) and intend to use it in the future when supporting a student post-concussion (96.4%). CONCLUSION The SCHOOLFirst website is a valuable tool for pre-service teachers to support students' return-to-school post-concussion.
