Clinical versus Dental Laboratory Survey Regarding Modern Fixed Implant Supported Prosthetic in Romania. APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL 2022. Abstract
(1) Background: The success of prosthetic treatment with implant support depends on the combined effort of the team doctor-technician, each of them being responsible for the validation of execution stages. (2) Methods: we composed an online questionnaire with 18 multiple choice questions, using the Google Forms application. It was filled out by an equal number of prosthodontic specialists and dental technicians. Differences and associations were evaluated by Likelihood Ratio test, Linear by Linear association test, Kruskal-Wallis H test, Pearson Chi-Square test and the Fisher’s Exact test. (3) Results: Differences and similarities were found between the statements of prosthodontic specialists and dental technicians. Years of experience are correlated with the number of restorations, impression techniques and types of restoration (p ≤ 0.05). Similar answers for both groups were registered for preferred screw retained type of prosthetic abutment and most frequently reported complications. (4) Conclusions: The different perspectives of the two members of the prosthodontic team regarding the leading role in the treatment plan, type of abutment, impression technique and prosthetic design of implant fixed restorations has been revealed in our study. Similar education curricula and standards for continuing training courses after graduation are necessary for prosthodontic specialists and technicians in Romania.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Evaluation of the in vivo bone response of two innovative titanium surfaces ytterbium laser active fiber obtained (L1-L2) compared to a sandblasted and acid etched (SBAE) during early phase of osseointegration. MATERIAL AND METHODS Three implant groups with the same macroscopic features were obtained (L1-L2-SBAE) to promote specific surface characteristics. Scanning electron microscopy, profilometric evaluation, X-ray spectrometry, and diffraction analysis were performed. For each group, six implants were placed in the tibiae of three Peli Buey sheep, and histologic, histomorphometric analysis, bone to implant contact (BIC), and the Dynamic Osseointegration index (DOI) were performed. RESULTS During the early phases of osseointegration, the histological and histomorphometric results showed significant differences between L1-L2-SBAE implants. At 15 and 30 days, histological analysis detected a newly bone formation around all specimens with an higher vital bone in L2 compared to L1 and SBAE both in cortical and in poor-quality marrow bone. At same time, histomorphometric analysis showed significantly higher BIC values in L2 (42.1 ± 2.6 and 82.4 ± 2.2) compared to L1 (5.2 ± 3.1 and 56.2 ± 1.3) and SBAE (23.3 ± 3.9 and 77.3 ± 0.4). DOI medium value showed a higher rate in L2 (2.83) compared to SBAE (2.60) and L1 (1.91). CONCLUSIONS With the limitations of this pilot study, it is possible to assess that the titanium surface characteristics, and not the technologies used to obtain the modification, played a crucial role during the osseointegration process. Histological, histomorphometric, BIC, and DOI evaluation showed a significantly higher rate in L2 specimens compared to others, confirming that the implant surface could increase the bone response in cortical or marrow poor quality bone during the initial phases of osseointegration.

Abstract
Objectives: The present study aims to identify the current level of clinical and technological performance of dental prosthetic rehabilitation on implants and the possible existence of correlations between different designs and occurring complications in Romanian practice. Material and method: An online questionnaire with 36 questions, grouped into five sections, has been designed using the Google Forms application. In 2019, it was approved by the Romanian Dental and Maxillofacial Prosthetic Society, and the link to the questionnaire was distributed via email to 70 members. The answers with multiple choice option were summarized in an Excel document, coded and statistically processed in the specific software (SPSS v20.0; IBM Corp). Fisher's exact test, likelihood ratio and linearby- linear association were used, and pairs of two questions were tested considering a standard statistical significance p value=0.05. Results: The results show that screwed rehabilitations (80.5%) on platform switched (70.9%) bone level implant (76.4%) with multiunit (69.1%) abutments for fixed total prosthesis, and custom abutments (43.6%) for removable prosthesis are preferred in Romanian practice. Most common problems of fixed rehabilitation on implants are related to aesthetics (65.5%) and for overdenture to unscrewing (56.4%). Resin-polymerized material in the laboratory, acrylic teeth and milled metallic structure in both arches was the preferred design for fixed restauration in both arches. Multiple statistic significant correlations (p<0.05) were found between the design type and complications. Conclusions: Our findings outline current clinical and technological preferences in Romanian practice on prosthetic implant rehabilitations, illustrating a great need for further research and education consensus.

Abstract
Objectives: The present study is conducted to explore the knowledge, attitude, and practice towards impression technique and materials for recording impression in implant placement among general dental practitioners. Materials and Methods: The present study is a cross-sectional questionnaire study. The study was conducted among general dental practitioners in Patna city in November–December 2017. Patna city was divided into five directions, which are north, south, east, west, and central. From each direction, 20 clinics were selected randomly, and dental practitioners from there clinics were interviewed. A closed-ended questionnaire consists of 19 items was prepared, the questionnaire was divided into four parts. Results: Majority of study participants (58 [34%]) were above the age of 40 years. 96 (56%) of study participants were male. Most of the study participants (89 [50%]) were having MDS degree. Knowledge, attitude, and behavior scores among study participants. About 43% of study participants have good knowledge scores regarding impression technique and material in implant placement while 50% of study participants had fair attitude score. About 58% of study participants had fair practice score. There was statistically significant correlation (P ≤ 0.05*) between knowledge and attitude of study participants. Conclusion: It was concluded that there was good knowledge, fair attitude, and practice among the dental professionals regarding the impression technique and materials for recording impression in implant placement. There was statistically significant correlation between knowledge and attitude of study participants. There was statistically significant correlation between some demographic variables and knowledge, attitude, and practice of study participants.

Abstract
PURPOSE To report a comprehensive description of dental implant system selection practices among dentists practicing implantology worldwide. MATERIALS AND METHODS An online questionnaire was designed and sent to members of 15 dental implant organizations. The survey questions addressed: dental implant system selection criteria, implant design variables, dentists' perspective to implant quality stamps, and dentists' satisfaction with their implant system(s). Responses were compiled and analyzed to determine correlation of responses using the chi-squared test (level of significance α ≤ 0.05). RESULTS Out of 4264 invitations sent, a total of 2001 (response rate = 46.9%) dentists participated in the survey. Approximately half of survey respondents (48.7%) were general dentists. More than two-thirds of the survey respondents (72.5%) were performing both the surgical and prosthetic implant phases. Implant-abutment connections were the most important dental implant system selection criterion (84.7%), followed by scientific evidence available on the implant system (82.8%), and simplicity of prosthetic steps (81.4%). Patient preferences (19.8%) were rated as the least important aspect. Sandblasted large gritted acid etched implant surfaces (SLA) were the most commonly used implant surfaces (75.8%); fluoride coated surfaces were the least commonly used (15.4%). CONCLUSION According to the results of this survey, most survey respondents practiced both surgical and prosthetic phases of dental implantology. The majority of survey respondents agreed on the importance of implant-abutment connections, scientific evidence available on implant systems, and simplicity of prosthetic steps when selecting implant systems.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Fabricating fixed restorations on implants requires that dentists stay up-to-date with the scientific publications. MATERIAL AND METHODS A questionnaire containing 29 questions was sent to dentists, members of the Israeli Society of Prosthodontics, and university faculty members. Differences were evaluated using the chi-square and Fisher exact tests and Mann-Whitney U and Wilcoxon tests for questions enquiring into the frequency of use of certain methods (α=.05). RESULTS A total of 155 questionnaires were completed by 84 general dental practitioners and 71 specialists and residents. Statistical differences (P<.05) were found in the course of the fabrication of the implant-supported prostheses in the diagnostic waxing, trial restoration, and impression-making processes. Trial restorations were often used by residents and specialists before starting an esthetic restoration. Diagnostic waxing was used when treating patients with complex esthetic needs, mainly by prosthodontists (P=.019). A custom tray for impression making was used more by residents and specialists than by general dental practitioners (P<.001). The open tray technique for impression making of single or up to 3 implants was performed mainly by residents, specialists, and general dental practitioners with professional experience of fewer than 15 years. General dental practitioners used primarily plastic or metal trays for impression making. CONCLUSIONS Significantly, impression techniques and the use of custom open trays, diagnostic waxing, and trial restorations were performed by residents, specialists, and dentists with fewer than 15 years of experience.

Abstract
This systematic review looks at thematic trends in clinical research publications on dental implants. For this purpose, MEDLINE electronic searches as well as additional hand searches of six main journals in the field were conducted. A total of 2875 clinical studies published between 2001 and 2012 met the inclusion criteria and were subjected to statistical analysis. Hot topics in dental implant literature included immediate loading (14.3%), bone substitutes (11.6%), cross-arch full bridges (8.0%), and immediate implant placement (7.5%). A significant increase in scientific interest for immediate loading (+6.3%, p = 0.001), platform switching (+2.9%, p = 0.001), guided implant surgery (+1.9%, p = 0.011), growth factors (p = 0.014, +1.4%), piezoelectric surgery (+1.3%, p = 0.015), and restorative materials (+0.7%, p = 0.011) was found. A declining scientific interest in onlay grafting (−0.3%, p = 0.042) was recorded. The findings regarding current clinical oral implants research tie in with better-informed consumers and increased patient demands. Our results demonstrate an increasing interest in techniques that avoid complicated procedures such as bone grafting and that reduce treatment duration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Discrimination between ongoing and solved research questions may help to distinguish established dogmas from evidence-based implant dentistry. PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to investigate topics of interest in the field of oral implant science and evolving thematic trends in clinical studies during the last decade. MATERIALS AND METHODS Electronic and manual searches of English literature were performed to identify clinical studies on oral implants. Out of 15,695 publications screened, 2,875 clinical investigations were included. RESULTS Among the most prevalent topics were immediate loading (14.3%), bone substitutes (11.6%), lateral sinus grafting (10.7%), implant overdentures (10.5%), single-tooth implant crowns (8.8%), cross-arch implant bridges (8.0%), immediate implant placement (7.5%), implant surfaces (7.0%), simultaneous implant placement and augmentation (6.4%) as well as guided bone regeneration (5.3%). Significant increase of scientific interest was seen in immediate loading (+6.3%, p < .001), platform switching (+2.9%, p < 0.001), lateral sinus grafting (+2.3%, p = .024), flapless implant surgery (+2.2%, p < 0.001), and guided implant surgery (+1.9%, p = .011), while research on implant overdentures (-6.6%, p = .033) and tooth-to-implant connection (-2.5%, p = .010) was on the decline. CONCLUSIONS Literature coverage, since the beginning of the 21st century, has seen greater focus on surgical topics compared to prosthodontic issues (p = .005) while only few topics experienced decrease of interest indicating scientific consensus.
