Abstract
BACKGROUND Although COVID-19 initially caused great concern about respiratory symptoms, mounting evidence shows that also the pancreas is productively infected by SARS-CoV-2. However, the severity of pancreatic SARS-CoV-2 infection and its pathophysiology is still under debate. Here, we investigate the consequences of SARS-CoV-2 pancreatic infection and the role of the host factor Placenta-associated protein (PLAC8). METHODS We analyze plasma levels of pancreatic enzymes and inflammatory markers in a retrospective cohort study of 120 COVID-19 patients distributed in 3 severity-stratified groups. We study the expression of SARS-CoV-2 and PLAC8 in the pancreas of deceased COVID-19 patients as well as in non-infected donors. We perform pseudovirus infection experiments in PLAC8 knock-out PDAC and human beta cell-derived cell lines and validate results with SARS-CoV-2 virus. RESULTS We find that analysis of circulating pancreatic enzymes aid the stratification of patients according to COVID-19 severity and predicts outcomes. Interestingly, we find an association between PLAC8 expression and SARS-CoV-2 infection in postmortem analysis of COVID-19 patients both in the pancreas and in other bonafide SARS-CoV-2 target tissues. Functional experiments demonstrate the requirement of PLAC8 in SARS-CoV-2 pancreatic productive infection by pseudovirus and full SARS-CoV-2 infectious virus inoculum from Wuhan-1 and BA.1 strains. Finally, we observe an overlap between PLAC8 and SARS-CoV-2 immunoreactivities in the pancreas of deceased patients. CONCLUSIONS Our data indicate the human pancreas as a SARS-CoV-2 target with plausible signs of injury and demonstrate that the host factor PLAC8 is required for SARS-CoV-2 pancreatic infection, thus defining new target opportunities for COVID-19-associated pancreatic pathogenesis.

Abstract
Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic originated in Wuhan, China, and swiftly spread across all continents. The respiratory system is the most affected in people who acquire sickness as a result of SARS-CoV-2. However, the virus can also affect other systems. The COVID-19 pandemic has become one of the most fatal infectious diseases in the recent past. Patients present with symptoms of fever, cough, tiredness, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, headache, and diarrhea. Objective This study intends to evaluate how COVID-19 has shown its effects on the well-being of the liver by collecting and correlating the data of the liver enzymes and inflammatory markers among hospitalized COVID-19 patients with age- and sex-matched healthy controls. Materials and methods A retrospective case-control study that included 200 patients diagnosed and hospitalized with COVID-19 was compared with an equal number of age- and sex-matched healthy control groups without COVID-19 at RVM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (RVMIMS & RC), a tertiary care teaching hospital in Siddipet, Telangana, India. Liver function tests (LFTs) and inflammatory markers were evaluated in both groups. Results Out of 200 patients, 179 (89.5%) had elevated alanine transaminase (ALT), 191 (95.5%) had elevated aspartate aminotransferase (AST), 33 (16.5%) had elevated alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and 183 (91.5%) showed elevated D-dimer levels. All the patients had elevated interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels. Conclusion COVID-19 patients have exhibited elevations in liver enzyme panels and inflammatory markers. Further research and follow-up studies may aid in understanding the role of the well-being of the liver in patients affected by COVID-19. Considering the emergence of newer COVID-19 strains, we recommend LFT to patients who test positive for the virus to monitor prognosis and guide treatment protocols through this study.

Abstract
First described in December 2019 in Wuhan (China), COVID-19 disease rapidly spread worldwide, constituting the biggest pandemic in the last 100 years. Even if SARS-CoV-2, the agent responsible for COVID-19, is mainly associated with pulmonary injury, evidence is growing that this virus can affect many organs, including the heart and vascular endothelial cells, and cause haemostasis, CNS, and kidney and gastrointestinal tract abnormalities that can impact in the disease course and prognosis. In fact, COVID-19 may affect almost all the organs. Hence, SARS-CoV-2 is essentially a systemic infection that can present a large number of clinical manifestations, and it is variable in distribution and severity, which means it is potentially life-threatening. The goal of this comprehensive review paper in the series is to give an overview of non-pulmonary involvement in COVID-19, with a special focus on underlying pathophysiological mechanisms and clinical presentation.

Abstract
Clinical evidence indicates that COVID-19 is a multiorgan disease that significantly impacts the cardiovascular system. However, little is known about the predictors of myocardial dysfunction after SARS-CoV-2 infection. Therefore, this research aimed to evaluate the clinical and electrocardiographic correlates of myocardial dysfunction after SARS-CoV-2 infection in nonhospitalised patients without previously diagnosed cardiovascular disease. This observational study included 448 patients selected from the database of 4142 patients in the Polish Long-Covid Cardiovascular study. All patients underwent a 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG); 24-h Holter ECG monitoring, 24/7 ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, echocardiography, and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. According to the results of diagnostic tests, patients were divided into two groups depending on the occurrence of myocardial dysfunction after COVID-19. Group 1-without myocardial dysfunction after COVID-19-consisted of 419 patients, with a mean age of 48.82 (SD ± 11.91), and Group 2 (29 patients)-with myocardial dysfunction after COVID-19, with a mean age of 51.45 (SD ± 12.92). When comparing the analysed groups, there were significantly more men in Group 2 (p = 0.006). QRS (corresponds to the time of ventricular contraction in an electrocardiographic examination) fragmentation (p = 0.031), arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation, supraventricular extrasystole, ventricular extrasystole) (p = 0.008), and male gender (p = 0.007) were independently associated with myocardial dysfunction after COVID-19. The study showed that myocardial damage after COVID-19 affects men more often and is independent of typical clinical factors and the severity of the disease course. The QRS fragmentation and arrhythmias observed in the ECG indicate the possibility of myocardial dysfunction in patients after COVID-19, which may be a valuable marker for physicians.

Abstract
With the Omicron wave, SARS-CoV-2 infections improved, with less lung involvement and few cases of severe manifestations. In this pictorial review, there is a summary of the pathogenesis with particular focus on the interaction of the immune system and gut and lung axis in both pulmonary and extrapulmonary manifestations of COVID-19 and the computed tomography (CT) imaging features of COVID-19 pneumonia from the beginning of the pandemic, describing the typical features of COVID-19 pneumonia following the Delta variant and the atypical features appearing during the Omicron wave. There is also an outline of the typical features of COVID-19 pneumonia in cases of breakthrough infection, including secondary lung complications such as acute respiratory distress disease (ARDS), pneumomediastinum, pneumothorax, and lung pulmonary thromboembolism, which were more frequent during the first waves of the pandemic. Finally, there is a description of vascular extrapulmonary complications, including both ischemic and hemorrhagic abdominal complications.

Abstract
SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) is known to present with a variety of features, with the most common being upper and lower respiratory tract symptoms. However, there are emerging reports of COVID-19 infections with extrapulmonary manifestations, including neurological conditions. We report a case of a patient who presented to his primary care physician with symptoms of Bell's Palsy after recovering from a COVID-19 infection. He was given timely and appropriate treatment that resolved symptoms without residual neurological deficits.
