Abstract
BACKGROUND Maxillary sinus augmentation (MSA) is a standard and predictable procedure to increase bone height in the atrophic posterior maxilla. Many biomaterials are employed in this technique; however, autologous platelet concentrates have been found to reduce clinical recovery time and improve bone gain in MSA. PURPOSE This study aimed to compare the radiographic, histomorphometric, and implant stability outcomes of titanium-prepared platelet-rich fibrin (T-PRF) and deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) in a two-stage MSA technique. STUDY DESIGN, SETTING, SAMPLE This randomized controlled split-mouth study included patients requiring bilateral two-stage MSA at the Periodontology Department of Kutahya Health Sciences University between March 2022 and April 2023. Patients with systemic comorbidities and residual bone height >5 mm in the bilateral posterior maxilla were excluded. PREDICTOR VARIABLE The predictor variable was the two-stage MSA technique. Each surgical site was randomly assigned to the T-PRF or DBBM group for two-stage MSA. MAIN OUTCOME VARIABLES The primary outcome was the histomorphometric evaluation of the percentage of new bone between the 2 groups. Secondary outcomes included radiographic evaluation of total bone height (ToBH), bone gain, bone density (BD), and graft volume (GV) on cone-beam computed tomography 6 months post-MSA, clinical assessment of primary implant stability at implant placement and secondary stability 3 months postplacement, and histomorphometric evaluation of the percentage of residual particles, percentage of connective tissue, and percentage of blood vessels from bone biopsy samples collected 6 months after MSA. COVARIATES Age, sex, periodontitis susceptibility, and smoking status were treated as covariates. ANALYSES The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used for bivariate comparisons between 2 groups, and the Pearson or Spearman test was used to analyze correlations of variables within groups. A P value ≤ .05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS The sample was composed of 10 patients with bilateral maxillary sinuses, 20 MSA regions, 8 (80%) males and 2 (20%) females with a mean age of 51.30 (9.06) year. The percentage of new bone was 19.48 ± 14.60 μm2 in the T-PRF group and 8.31 ± 5.47 μm2 in the DBBM group, and there was no statistically significant difference between the groups (P = .074). Radiographic measurements showed ToBH, GV, and BD values of 10.64 ± 3.96 mm, 989.89 ± 523.07 mm3, and 192.09 ± 127.90 hounsfield unit in the T-PRF group and 14.25 ± 1.65 mm, 1,519.39 ± 432.61 mm3, and 492.77 ± 117.35 hounsfield unit in the DBBM group, respectively. ToBH, GV, and BD values were statistically significant between the groups (P = .01 and P = .00). Primary and secondary implant stability in the T-PRF group were 71.11 ± 12.48 implant stability quotient (ISQ) and 68.03 ± 6.81 ISQ, respectively, compared with 67.94 ± 19.84 ISQ and 72.46 ± 11.21 ISQ in the DBBM group. The difference was not statistically significant between the groups (P = .41 and P = .33). CONCLUSION AND RELEVANCE Although T-PRF demonstrated inferior radiographic outcomes compared with DBBM during the initial6-month healing phase, both techniques yielded comparable results regarding new bone formation and implant stability. Further research is warranted to explore the efficacy of different T-PRF applications in MSA. This trial is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05596084).

Abstract
Context Platelet concentrates are rich in growth factors that assist in regenerative medicine to promote healing and tissue regeneration. Similarly, partially demineralized tooth is a storehouse of many growth factors, assisting in bone regeneration. Hence, the present study aimed to quantify the release of growth factors from different platelet concentrates individually and when mixed with a partially demineralized tooth matrix. Method Human growth factors such as bFGF, EGF, PDGF-AB, TGF-beta-1, and VEGF-A present in platelet-rich fibrin and injectable platelet-rich fibrin from young and old male and female donors were quantified separately. Then these platelet concentrates were then mixed with a partially demineralized tooth matrix, which was powdered using a Smart Dentin Grinder. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used for the quantification of growth factors. Results The release of growth factors, such as platelet-rich fibrin and injectable platelet-rich fibrin, was not statistically significant; however, it was significantly greater when i-PRF was mixed with a partially demineralized tooth matrix. Conclusion The study revealed that the expression of growth factors was significantly greater when a partially demineralized tooth matrix was mixed with injectable platelet-rich fibrin than when combined with platelet-rich fibrin.

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the contribution of titanium prepared platelet-rich fibrin (T-PRF) with open flap debridement (OFD) on clinical, biochemical and radiographic measurements of periodontal regeneration. Twenty periodontitis patients with bilateral intrabony defects and stage III grade A periodontitis were included in the study. A total of 40 defects were randomly selected for OFD alone (control group, n = 20) or combined OFD+ T-PRF (test group, n = 20). Clinical and radiographic parameters (at baseline and nine months after surgery), and growth factor levels in gingival crevicular fluid (at baseline and at two, four, six, and twelve weeks after surgical treatment) were also evaluated. Considering the clinical parameters, alterations in probing pocket depth, gingival marginal level and clinical endpoint in the test regions treated with T-PRF significantly improved (P<0.05). Fibroblast growth factor-2 and platelet-derived growth factor-BB levels between the two groups in the second and fourth weeks were also significantly different (P<0.05). Furthermore, the receptor activator of nuclear factor κB ligand/osteoprotegerin ratio between the groups was significantly different in the second, fourth, sixth, and twelfth weeks (P<0.05). The bone-filling rate was also significantly greater in the test group than in the control group (P <0.001). Compared with OFD alone, combining T-PRF with the procedure was more successful with regards to clinical, radiographic, and biochemical measurements of periodontal regeneration.

Abstract
Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a biocompatible fibrin matrix that acts as a resorbable membrane, collecting platelet cytokines, growth factors, and cells and releasing them. It is easily extracted from blood. Many dentists use PRF, a concentrated growth factor solution, to treat various lesions and regenerate tooth and oral tissues. This research examines the pros, cons, and suggestions of using PRF in dentistry.

Abstract
Platelet-rich Fibrin (PRF), a second-generation blood concentrate, offers a versatile structure for bone regeneration due to its composition of fibrin, growth factors, and cytokines, with adaptations like denatured albumin-enriched with liquid PRF (Alb-PRF), showing potential for enhanced stability and growth factor dynamics. Researchers have also explored the combination of PRF with other biomaterials, aiming to create a three-dimensional framework for enhanced cell recruitment, proliferation, and differentiation in bone repair studies. This study aimed to evaluate a combination of Alb-PRF with nanostructured carbonated hydroxyapatite microspheres (Alb-ncHA-PRF), and how this association affects the release capacity of growth factors and immunomodulatory molecules, and its impact on the behavior of MG63 human osteoblast-like cells. Alb-PRF membranes were prepared and associated with nanocarboapatite (ncHA) microspheres during polymerization. MG63 cells were exposed to eluates of both membranes to assess cell viability, proliferation, mineralization, and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity. The ultrastructural analysis has shown that the spheres were shattered, and fragments were incorporated into both the fibrin mesh and the albumin gel of Alb-PRF. Alb-ncHA-PRF presented a reduced release of growth factors and cytokines when compared to Alb-PRF (p < 0.05). Alb-ncHA-PRF was able to stimulate osteoblast proliferation and ALP activity at lower levels than those observed by Alb-PRF and was unable to positively affect in vitro mineralization by MG63 cells. These findings indicate that the addition of ncHA spheres reduces the biological activity of Alb-PRF, impairing its initial effects on osteoblast behavior.

Abstract
The rapid healing of oral ulcers is important to prevent secondary infection, especially for chronic oral ulcers. Platelet lysate (PL) is rich in growth factors for cell growth and promotes tissue regeneration. Hence, this study was performed to compare the effects of PL originating from umbilical cord blood (CB) and peripheral blood (PB) on oral mucosal wound healing. The PLs were molded into gel form in the culture insert with the addition of calcium chloride and conditioned medium for sustained release of growth factors. The CB-PL and PB-PL gels were found to degrade slowly in culture and their degradation percentages by weight were 5.28 ± 0.72% and 9.55 ± 1.82% respectively. The results from the scratch assay and Alamar blue assay showed that the CB-PL and PB-PL gels increased the proliferation (148 ± 3% and 149 ± 3%) and wound closure (94.17 ± 1.77% and 92.75 ± 1.80%) of oral mucosal fibroblasts compared to the control with no statistical differences between the two gels, respectively. Quantitative RT-PCR showed that mRNA expressions of collagen-I, collagen-III, fibronectin, and elastin genes in cells treated with CB-PL (11-, 7-, 2-, and 7-fold) and PB-PL (17-, 14-, 3-, and 7-fold) decreased compared with the control, respectively. The concentration of platelet-derived growth factor of PB-PL gel (1303.10 ± 343.96 pg/mL) showed a higher trend than CB-PL gel did (905.48 ± 69.65 pg/mL) from ELISA measurement. In summary, CB-PL gel is as effective as PB-PL gel in supporting oral mucosal wound healing, making it a potential new source of PL for regenerative treatment.

Abstract
Introduction Placement of immediate implants in contrast to delayed implant placement may be favorable. The factors contributing to this are shortened overall treatment time, aid in ideal orientation and fixture placement, bone preservation following extraction, and achieving optimal aesthetics involving soft tissue. However, the gap distance between the surface of the implant and the buccal bony wall during implant placement is critical for subsequent bone healing in a fresh extraction socket. Considering that as the gap broadens, the amount of bone-to-implant contact (BIC) decreases, causing an apical shift of the highest bone-implant contact. Incorporating a bone substitute material (BSM) within the fixture-socket gap preserves alveolar ridge volume by minimizing socket remodeling and encouraging de-novo bone formation. Aim and objectives To evaluate the efficacy of platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) and demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft (DFDBA) in fresh extraction socket with simultaneous implant placement. Methods Implants were immediately placed in 12 patients following a two-stage submerged protocol. The combination of PRFM and DFDBA was used to fill the gap between the implant body and the surrounding socket wall. The final restoration was placed after 3 months following implant placement. The full mouth plaque, gingival bleeding index, and gingival esthetics scores were assessed at baseline, 3, and 6 months. The crestal changes were evaluated using intraoral periapical radiographs (IOPA) at baseline, 3, and 6 months. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images were obtained at baseline and 6 months after implant loading to analyze the buccolingual changes. Results At 6 months follow-up, the coronal bone remodeling detected on CBCT revealed a minimal (0.1 mm) narrowing of the alveolar ridge in a buccolingual direction, with a mean bone loss of 0.10+0.09, which was statistically non-significant (p > 0.05). Implant success was 100% at 6 months after loading as determined by Akbrektsson’s criteria for implant success. Conclusions The adjunctive use of PRFM with DFDBA following immediate implant placement yielded a significant reduction in bone resorption and maintenance of buccolingual dimensions.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Pressure injury (PI) impacts the quality of life, and socioeconomic and psychological well-being negatively in persons with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) showed promising roles in wound healing. PRF is considered a second-generation PRP, contains more growth factors and is more biocompatible than PRP. It possesses an additional favourable impact on wound healing due to its three-dimensional fibrin architecture, and antimicrobial property. There are no studies on PRF membrane use for PI healing in SCI. CASE PRESENTATION A 25-year-old male with operated traumatic T10 American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale grade A paraplegia with neurogenic bowel, and bladder and a stage II PI over the left greater trochanter, was admitted for inpatient rehabilitation. The chronic non-healing PI which did not show any improvement following normal saline (0.9%) dressing for the past 3 months, was treated with autologous PRF membrane weekly for four weeks. The PI healed completely and no adverse events were noted. Weekly total scores of the Spinal Cord Impairment Pressure Ulcer Monitoring Tool and Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing were 6, 6, 5, 2, 0 and 12, 10, 10, 3, and 0 respectively. DISCUSSION To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report on the healing of PI in SCI with the use of PRF. This novel biomaterial is a safe and effective promising agent for PI management in SCI. But further randomized trials are needed to establish stronger evidence regarding feasibility and effectiveness.

Abstract
Background: Several bone grafting formulations have been given clinically acceptable outcomes in treating intrabony defects. Platelet rich fibrin (PRF), an autologous platelet concentrate holds potential to be used for regenerative treatment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate clinical and radiographic outcomes in periodontal intrabony defects treated with advanced-PRF block (A PRF + i PRF + nanohydroxyapatite [nHA]) compared to nHA alone. Methods: Twenty-eight sites in chronic periodontitis patients having probing pocket depth (PPD) ≥6 mm and 3 walled intrabony defects (depth of ≥3 mm) were selected, randomly allotted into two groups: Group A was treated with A-PRF block and Group B with nHA (Sybograf™). Clinical parameters including plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), PPD, relative attachment level (RAL) and radiographically linear and volumetric defect fill were assessed using cone beam computed tomography at baseline and 6 months postoperatively. Results: Intragroup comparison using paired t-test and intergroup comparison using unpaired t-test was done. Group A demonstrated significantly higher reduction in PPD and gain in RAL when compared to Group B (P ≤ 0.05) at the end of 6 months. Similarly gain in bone volume was greater in Group A (0.1 ± 0.05) as compared to Group B (0.04 ± 0.02) (P ≤ 0.05). Conclusion: Advanced-PRF block showed significant clinical and radiographic improvement as compared to nHA alone which depicts that, it may be an ideal graft to be used for the treatment of periodontal intrabony defects.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Migratory speed rate evaluation of human dental pulp stromal cells (hDP-SCs) is one of the important steps in dental pulp regeneration. Therefore, the aim of the study is to analyze various concentrations of advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF) culture media toward hDP-SCs' migratory speed rate evaluations. MATERIALS AND METHODS The hDP-SCs were divided into four groups: control: hDP-SCs in Dulbecco's modified Eagle medium + 10% fetal bovine serum group; hDP-SCs in 1% A-PRF group; hDP-SCs in 5% A-PRF group; and hDP-SCs in 10% A-PRF group, which were planted in 24-well (5 × 104 cell/well). The migratory speed rate of all groups was measured by using cell migration assay (scratch wound assay) after 24 hours. Cell characteristics were evaluated under microscope (Inverted microscope, Zeiss, Observer Z1, UK) that can be read through image-J interpretation. This image J represented the measurement of migratory speed rate (nm/h) data. Statistical analysis was conducted using one-way analysis of variance and post hoc Tamhane's test (p < 0.05) (IBM SPSS Statistics Software, version 22.0). RESULTS There was a statistically significant difference in the migratory speed rates of hDP-SCs among various concentration groups of A-PRF (1, 5, and 10%) compared with the control group. CONCLUSION The increase in the migratory speed rate of hDP-SCs was highest in 10% A-PRF group.

Abstract
The objective was to compare pain relief in alveolar osteitis achieved by the application of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and aspirin cones, and to assess the influence of both treatments on bacterial concentrations in post-extraction wounds. A split-mouth, single-center, non-randomized controlled trial was conducted in 30 patients. Pain relief was assessed using the visual analog scale at three time points (before, 24 h after, and 48 h after intervention). Bacterial concentrations were evaluated from cultures of swab samples collected at the three time points. A Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-rank test was performed to detect differences in distributions of scalar variables between treatment with PRF and aspirin cones. Pain relief at 24 h and 48 h after treatment was significantly higher (p = 0.003) with PRF application than with aspirin cone placement. Additionally, PRF application caused a significantly higher reduction in aerobic bacteria concentration, an average increase, instead of a decrease, in lactic acid bacilli concentration in the first 24 h, and a significantly greater increase in streptococci concentration at 48 h follow-up. PRF provides better pain relief than aspirin cones in alveolar osteitis. Bacterial concentrations in the extraction wounds are consistent with the pain relief achieved after PRF or aspirin application.

Abstract
Clot formation is the first step of the healing process, and clinical procedures always find ways to stabilize this clot better. Platelets play a significant role in clot formation, and Platelet Concentrates (Pc) are an abundant reservoir of platelets. This article aims to review the in vitro research and systematic reviews on PCs that are currently available. Broadly, PCs mainly include Platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin. PCs are an excellent source for growth factors such as PDGF-AA, TGF β1, VEGF, EGF, and IGF. Numerous systematic reviews and meta-analyses have analyzed the clinical application of PCs in various periodontal procedures. In alveolar ridge preservation, PCs are known to reduce postoperative pain, edema, trismus, and inflammation. PRF had shown significant improvement in achieving root coverage and recession depth reduction. PCs exhibited a positive influence on CAL gain when used as an adjunct to OFD in treating infra-bony defects. Pcs have a positive effect on bone maturation in the short term. Besides, PCs can be used in regenerative endodontics, treatment of medication-related osteoradionecrosis of Jaw (MRONJ), and accelerating tooth movement. In conclusion, PCs positively affect soft tissue healing, while their role in hard tissue healing is still unclear.

Abstract
AbstractPlatelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a fibrin matrix in which platelet cytokines, growth factors, and cells are trapped and may be released after a certain time and that can serve as a resorbable membrane. It can be obtained from blood with the help of a simple process. PRF is basically a concentrate of growth factors that promote wound healing and regeneration, which is used in various disciplines of dentistry to repair various lesions and regenerate dental and oral tissues. Although the use of PRF is well-documented, its use in pediatric dentistry remains unexplored, due to its restrictions and on account of the fact that it is a blood-derived product. PRF has been used globally to enhance tissue healing. This article provides an insight into the use of PRF in pediatric dentistry, its benefits, limitations, and recommendations.

Abstract
Background. Various treatment modalities, such as leucocyte platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF), bone grafts, and membranes, have been used for the restoration of lost periodontal tissues. Titanium-prepared platelet-rich fibrin (T-PRF) has attracted attention for its proper haemocompatibility, thick fibrin meshwork, and long resorption time. The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of T-PRF and L-PRF in the management of intra-bony defects based on clinical and radiographic criteria. Methods. Twenty-six subjects with 34 intra-bony 3- walled defects were divided into two groups (n=17) and treated with T-PRF or L-PRF. Clinical and radiographic measurements were recorded at baseline and 6- , 3- and 9- month intervals and tabulated on Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. For intra- and intergroup comparisons, paired and unpaired t-tests were performed. P<0.05 was set as statistically significant Results. Intra-group comparisons revealed statistically significant differences (P<0.05) from baseline in both groups regarding clinical measurements. On intergroup comparison, the T-PRF group exhibited a significantly higher defect fill compared to the L-PRF group (P<0.05). Conclusion. Within the limits of the present study, T-PRF seems to be a better alternative to L-PRF in the treatment of intra-bony defects.

Abstract
Platelet concentrates (PCs), mostly represented by platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) are autologous biological blood-derived products that may combine plasma/platelet-derived bioactive components, together with fibrin-forming protein able to create a natural three-dimensional scaffold. These types of products are safely used in clinical applications due to the autologous-derived source and the minimally invasive application procedure. In this narrative review, we focus on three main topics concerning the use of platelet concentrate for treating musculoskeletal conditions: (a) the different procedures to prepare PCs, (b) the composition of PCs that is related to the type of methodological procedure adopted and (c) the clinical application in musculoskeletal medicine, efficacy and main limits of the different studies.
