Hemangioendothelioma of palate: A case report with review of literature

Pseudomyogenic Hemangioendothelioma Arising in the Maxillary Sinus, an Uncommon and Misdiagnosed Tumor: A Case Report

Pseudomyogenic hemangioendothelioma (PMHE) is a rare vascular neoplasm with an intermediate to low-grade malignant potential. Only 5% of PMHEs occur in the head and neck. This tumor exhibits different histological patterns and mimics other vascular tumors, myoid tumors, or carcinomas. The distinction between these tumors can be a very challenging situation for pathologists. In this article, we report the first case, to our knowledge, of PMHE arising in the maxillary sinus, to highlight this uncommon entity and discuss differential diagnoses.

Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma in the Tongue: A Rare Case Report

Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma is a rare malignant vascular neoplasm caused by the proliferation of neoplastic endothelial cells. Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma may develop in any organ, but it is commonly observed in the extremities. The tongue is a very unusual location for epithelioid hemangioendothelioma. A 55-year-old male patient presented to the outpatient head and neck clinic with lumps in the tongue, pain, and limitation of motion. The polypoid mass detected in the anterior midline of the tongue was excised. Microscopically, the tumor cells included slightly pleomorphic oval or round vesicular nuclei with an eosinophilic cytoplasm that variably contained vacuoles. There were 4 mitoses per 10 high power fields and there was no necrosis. In immunohistochemical study, the tumor cells were positively stained with CD31 and CD34 whereas they were negatively stained with TFE3, SMA, S-100, HHV-8 and EMA. The patient was diagnosed with "epitheloid hemangioendothelioma". Only ten cases have been reported in the tongue in the literature. Our case was the eleventh case, and we aimed to report this case as a rare entity with an unusual location.

Was it Ewing's? A Diagnostic and Therapeutic Dilemma

We present an atypical case of histopathology suggesting hemangioendothelioma and immunohistochemistry-proven Ewing's sarcoma in a 39-year-old lady who presented with multiple stony hard swellings involving the occipital region of the scalp, right cervical lymph node, right scapular region, left infraclavicular region of the chest, right anterior abdominal wall swelling, and inner aspect of right thigh. She underwent left-sided below-knee amputation for parosteal osteosarcoma in the left distal tibia 3 years back. Palliative radiotherapy with dose of 30 Gy in 10 fractions over 2 weeks was administered to the right neck and right upper back following which she attained moderate pain relief but no reduction in swellings as was expected had it been a case of hemangioendothelioma or Ewing's sarcoma..

Erythematous and Vascular Oral Mucosal Lesions: A Clinicopathologic Review of Red Entities

Erythematous lesions of the oral mucosa are common and can reflect a variety of conditions, ranging from benign reactive or immunologically-mediated disorders to malignant disease. Together with vascular abnormalities, which can vary from reddish to bluish-purple in color, the differential diagnosis for erythematous oral mucosal change is quite diverse. This review focuses on salient clinical features and histopathologic findings of selected conditions which clinically present as red or vascular-like oral mucosal alterations, including oral vascular malformations and neoplasms, pyogenic granuloma, localized juvenile spongiotic gingival hyperplasia, denture stomatitis, benign migratory glossitis (geographic tongue), orofacial granulomatosis, granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Wegener granulomatosis), megaloblastic anemia, and erythroplakia. Recognition of the characteristic clinical features of these conditions, in conjunction with thorough patient history, will allow clinicians to narrow the differential diagnosis and guide appropriate clinical decision making, including the need for tissue biopsy, in order to complete the diagnostic process and initiate optimal patient care.
