Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Romania has the highest rate of cervical cancer in Europe. The aim of this study is to measure the level of sexual health knowledge among participants and determine the extent to which factors such as age, gender, education level, access to sexual health resources, and cultural background influence their knowledge. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted on 1089 Romanian youth participants aged 18-35 years. A self-administered online questionnaire was used concerning the level of knowledge relating to STIs, contraception methods, and preventive attitudes during the 2023-2024 academic year. RESULTS Most of the participants (93,8%) scored a "good-to-excellent" STI level of knowledge. Despite this, 71.9% of the responders had never taken an HIV test, and 63.5% had never been tested for other STIs. Logistic regression analysis revealed a direct association between higher STI knowledge levels among respondents with age (p < 0.001), underage sexual debuts (p = 0.018), greater parental education (p = 0.016), and those who studied health sciences (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS This study highlights the critical need for health communication campaigns to enhance STI knowledge and vaccine literacy to improve the vaccination rates among young people in Romania. The identified knowledge gaps, frequent misconceptions, and barriers to STI testing underscore the importance of comprehensive sexual health education, public health initiatives for reducing the stigma associated with STIs, and improved access to healthcare services for young people.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It is estimated that more than 80% of people are infected with human papilloma virus (HPV) at some point in their lives. Knowledge about HPV infection and methods of its prevention is important for society as a whole. Medical students as future healthcare workers must be thoroughly informed about HPV infection in order to properly participate in the promotion of its prevention. The aim was to examine the knowledge and attitudes in relation to previous education about HPV infection and prevention methods. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted among undergraduate students at the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad (MFNS). The study covered all study programs and was conducted in the period from 1 to 30 November 2023, using a specially created survey questionnaire for the purposes of this research. RESULTS 1760 surveys were collected, representing 70.4% of the total number of MFNS students. In the past year, only 26% of respondents attended some kind of education about HPV infection/vaccine. Statistical significance was observed in the difference between the responses of students who attended education in comparison to those who did not attend education in the past year (75.5% versus 63.3%, p < 0.001). Students who stated that they plan to get vaccinated in the following period answered the questions correctly in a higher percentage (87.5% versus 80.1%, p = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS Students of the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad, as future healthcare workers, demonstrated certain knowledge and demonstrated right attitudes. Students who attended education about HPV infection and methods of prevention had more correct answers, as did students who plan to get vaccinated in the future.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: This study aims to assess the health status and factors influencing healthy choices among children and young people in Romania, as well as the efficacy of related health education programs. Through understanding these dynamics, the study seeks to provide insights that can shape targeted interventions, policies, and educational strategies to improve this demographic's overall health and well-being. Materials and Methods: For this study, we performed a literature review of original published papers on the health status, healthy habits, health education, predisposition to making healthy choices in the future, and accessibility to the paediatric health system of Romanian children and young people, as well as the effects of different types of educational interventions on this demographic in Romania. Results: The prevalence of dental caries is high in Romania. In terms of eating habits and nutritional status, a worrying proportion of children are overweight or obese, which can lead to a variety of future physical and psychological problems. In terms of physical activity, few adolescents demonstrate regular fitness practices. Romania presents an increase in alcohol and tobacco consumption among adolescents. The mental health of students has become a pressing public health concern, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The use of social networks is linked to mental health issues among young people. Romania still has one of the highest rates of sexually transmitted diseases and faces a high incidence of cervical cancer, with a mortality rate three times higher than the EU average. High rates of teenage pregnancies are linked to limited information about sexuality and a lack of access to family planning at a young age. There are large discrepancies in the accessibility of medical services between urban and rural areas. Conclusions: Romania faces significant obstacles to providing high-quality healthcare to children and young people. Improving nutrition, immunisation rates, and access to medical services represent essential areas for enhancing the health of children and young people in Romania.

Abstract
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a major public health problem worldwide, with a high prevalence between the ages of 15 and 25 in most Western countries. High notification rates of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis are reported in the WHO European Region, with differences between countries. In Italy, the total number of STIs alerts increased by 18% from 2020 to 2021. HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection; globally one in seven women is infected by this virus, and certain sexual behaviors are important risk factors for HPV-related cancers, particularly cervical cancer (CC), anogenital cancers and cancers of the head and neck. The burden of CC is relevant worldwide, in particular in Europe CC is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women aged 15-44. This HPV-related tumor is preventable through a combined strategy of vaccination and screening for precursor lesions. In Italy, the coverage of organized screening varies from region to region and the average HPV vaccination rate is still far from the expected optimal threshold of 95% at the age of 12. To address the challenges of health promotion and HPV prevention, priority actions are needed such as: promoting education and information at every level, from schools to healthcare professionals. In Italy, education of adolescents on sexual and reproductive health, still remains critical, regionally inhomogeneous and much lower than in other European countries. Equitable measures need to be taken, and schools are an important place for health promotion activities.

Abstract
PURPOSE Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the most common sexually transmitted disease, in males and females worldwide. While the role of HPV in female diseases is well known and largely studied, males have negligibly been included in these programs, also because the proportion of women suffering and dying from HPV-related diseases is much larger than men. The aim of this review is to focus on HPV-related diseases in male patients. METHODS We performed a literature analysis on the electronic database PubMed. We considered randomized trials, observational and retrospective studies, original articles having as topic the relationship between HPV male infection and the following items: oral, anal penile cancers, warts, condylomas, male infertility, altered sperm parameters, anti-sperm antibodies (ASA). We also included experimental in vitro studies focused on the effects of HPV infection on oocyte fertilization, blastocyst development, and trophoblastic cell invasiveness. In addition, studies describing the adjuvant administration of the HPV vaccination as a possible strategy to promote HPV clearance from semen in infected males were included. RESULTS Regarding head and neck HPV-related diseases, the most important non-neoplastic disease is recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP). Regarding neoplastic diseases, the proportion of head and neck cancers attributable to HPV has increased dramatically worldwide. In addition, nowadays, it is thought that half of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCCs) cases in the United States are caused by infection with high-risk HPV. HPV is noteworthy in andrological practice too. It was described as having a high HPV prevalence, ranging between 50 and 70%, in male penile shaft, glans penis/coronal sulcus, semen as well as in scrotal, perianal, and anal regions. Moreover, in male patients, HPV infection has been associated, among other diseases, with penile cancers. HPV semen infection has been reported in about 10% in men from the general population and about 16% in men with unexplained infertility, although these data seem widely underestimated according to clinical experience. In particular, HPV semen infection seems to be most related to asthenozoospermia and to anti-sperm antibodies (ASAs). CONCLUSIONS HPV infection represents a health problem with a detrimental social and public impact. Despite this evidence, little has been done to date to widely promote vaccination among young males.

Abstract
Objective:A sizable fraction of young people with active sex lives do not utilize contraceptives and engage in high-risk sexual activity. School-based programs can prevent sexual activity, encourage birth control and reduce high-risk behavior. A survey was conducted to assess the key sources of knowledge on sexual education and document attitudes and methods of contraception used by Greek students, providing valuable information for expanding contraceptive services. Material and methods:A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted by using an online questionnaire which was distributed to 206 digital student groups on social media platforms from May 20 to June 5, 2021. Results:The majority of participants obtained information about contraception from the Internet and used male condoms to avoid unwanted pregnancy and protect against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). The present study found that younger ages (18-20 and 21-25) preferred to use the male condom technique in an ephemeral relationship [x² (12) =26.041, Fisher's exact test p= 0.0380.05]. Conclusions:Exploring students' attitudes toward contraceptive usage can provide valuable insights for developing effective strategies to promote safe and responsible sexual behavior among this population.

Abstract
Purpose In Romania, after reaching the age of 18, teenage girls can make an informed decision about vaccination. The aim of the study was to evaluate both knowledge and attitudes related to HPV infection, HPV vaccination, cervical cancer, as well as intentions, reservations, reasons that could influence the decision related to vaccination. Patients and Methods We applied an anonymized questionnaire to 690 teenage girls in the 18-19 age group, recruited from 15 high schools in Bihor County. Based on the answers to the question corresponding to item 14 of subscale 3, 2 groups were identified: the group with a hesitant behavior called the non-vaccine group (GNV) and the group with a positive behavior called the pro-vaccine group (GPV). The statistical analysis was processed by using IBM-SPSS 22. Results The analysis revealed significant differences between the groups in terms of the level of knowledge and attitudes related to vaccination, the adolescent girls in the GPV being more aware of the role and importance of HPV vaccination and more open to the idea of vaccination. For the GNV, the behavior can be explained by the fact that even if they have heard about the HPV infection being transmitted through unprotected sex and they think that vaccination in general is necessary to prevent certain diseases, they do not know if HPV vaccination would be effective in protecting them in the future. Adolescents from GPV declare they would accept HPV vaccination if it would be offered to them or they are already vaccinated. Conclusion Alongside interventions targeting parents and health-care professionals, it is necessary to improve the level of knowledge of adolescents about HPV infection, HPV vaccination and cervical cancer, by organizing information campaigns in schools, campaigns in which professionals in the field should be involved, but also by implementing education programs addressed to them.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: The vaccine against human papilloma virus (HPV) infection is recommended, according to the Serbian National Immunization Program, for children and adolescents aged 9−19 years. Three doses are given keeping in mind the recommendation that the second dose should be administered at least one month after the first dose, and the third at least three months after the second dose. No children who participated in this first study received the third dose because they did not meet these criteria. The study explored parents’ knowledge about HPV infection and their awareness of the HPV vaccine. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study was carried out in the city of Nis, in southeastern Serbia. According to the 2011 population census, the sample of children aged 9 to 19 was 850, and during the observed period, 631 children received the vaccine. A total of 615 fully completed questionnaires filled out by parents were included in the study. The study was carried out from 6 June 2022 to 7 October 2022. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used. The odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated. The statistical significance was p < 0.05. Results: A total of 615 children were included in the study (499 were vaccinated with the first dose and 116 with the second). Out of 499 children vaccinated with the first dose, 398 (79.6%) were girls, which is significantly higher than the rate for boys (101). The independent variable sex was statistically significant at the level of p = 0.84, OR = 2.664 (95% CI from 0.879 to 7.954). Boys are 164% less likely to be vaccinated with the HPV vaccine than girls. We determined that the independent variable place of residence was significant at the level of p = 0.041, (OR = 3.809, 95% CI from 1.702 to 8.525). Based on these findings, we determined that parents who came from rural areas were 82% less likely to know about HPV infection and HPV vaccination. Children under 15 years of age were significantly more vaccinated than those ≥15 years (OR = 3.698, 95% CI from 1.354 to 12.598). The independent variable parental education was significant at the level of OR = 0.494, 95% CI from 0.301 to 0.791. Parents who had medical education showed significantly higher awareness about the infection caused by HPV and about the HPV vaccine (p = 0.004) than parents with no medical education. The possibility that a parent would decide to vaccinate a child significantly increased upon a pediatrician’s recommendation, p = 0.000 with OR = 0.250 (95% CI from 0.127 to 0.707). Health insurance coverage of HPV vaccination for children aged 9−19 years significantly increased the probability of a positive parental decision to vaccinate a child, p = 0.001 with OR = 3.034 (95% CI from 1.063 to 8.662). Conclusion: We identified several significant factors that were important for HPV vaccination such as: children under 15 years, female sex, urban place of residence, medical education of parents, pediatrician’s recommendation of the HPV vaccination, and HPV vaccination free of charge. Health education and the promotion of HPV vaccination as well as healthy sexual behavior are important factors in the preservation and improvement of the health of the whole population.

Abstract
High rates of vaccination coverage in childhood represent one of the most important cost-effective tools of primary prevention and have substantially reduced the incidence of and mortality from vaccine-preventable diseases globally. Vaccination coverage of young people has not been well estimated in Greece. Anonymous self-completed questionnaires and the participants’ Child Health Booklet were used to estimate complete vaccination coverage of mandatory vaccinations against vaccine-preventable diseases of undergraduate students at the University of West Attica during the academic year 2020−2021. Student’s t-tests were used to estimate mean values. Overall, 79% (95% CI: 78−81%) of study participants were fully vaccinated. This coverage was lower in males especially for vaccines that should be done during childhood (p = 0.045). High vaccination percentage (>90%) was observed for the meningococcus group A, C, W135, Y, measles-mumps-rubella, hepatitis B and meningitis C vaccine. Nevertheless, suboptimal coverage was assessed for the booster dose of tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, for the human papillomavirus vaccine among girls, for the tuberculosis, for the meningococcus group B, for the pneumococcal, and for the seasonal influenza vaccines. In conclusion, the promotion of routine vaccination programs for young adults needs to be strengthened. An identification system for under-vaccinated students, an efficient reminder system and university campus vaccine program practices should be established, particularly among males.
