Abstract
We report an enantioselective synthesis of cyclic ketones with full substitutions at the α-positions in a highly diastereoselective manner. Our method is achieved by subjecting substrate motifs in 2-allyloxyenones to chiral organomagnesium reagents, which trigger the Claisen rearrangement upon direct 1,2-carbonyl addition. The observed diastereoselectivity of the allyl migration is proposed to originate from the intramolecular chelation of the magnesium alkoxide to the allyloxy moiety.

Abstract
![]()
The synthesis of aniline derivatives, common building
blocks in
many pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, dyes or polymers, has been limited
to reactions based on benzene-toluene-xylene derivatives (BTX) due
to their ample availability. Despite the large number of existing
methodologies, the synthesis of chiral 4-(sec-alkyl)anilines has not
been accomplished so far. In this work, a tandem strategy based on
the generation of a reactive aza-p-quinone methide
(aza-p-QM) intermediate followed by Cu(I)-catalyzed
addition of Grignard reagents has been developed.

Abstract
The asymmetric catalytic addition of linear Grignard reagents to ketones has been a long-standing challenge in organic synthesis. Herein, a novel family of PNP ligands (W-Phos) was designed and applied in copper-catalyzed asymmetric addition of linear Grignard reagents to aryl alkyl ketones, allowing facile access to versatile chiral tertiary alcohols in good to high yields with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 94 % yield, 96 % ee). The process can also be used to synthesize chiral allylic tertiary alcohols from more challenging α,β-unsaturated ketones. Notably, the potential utility of this method is demonstrated in the gram-scale synthesis and modification of various densely functionalized medicinally relevant molecules.

Abstract
Esters are valuable electrophiles for cross-coupling due to their ubiquity and ease of synthesis. However, harsh conditions are traditionally required for the effective cross-coupling of ester substrates. Utilizing a recently discovered precatalyst, Pd-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura and Buchwald-Hartwig reactions involving cleavage of the C(acyl)-O bond of aryl esters that proceed under mild conditions are reported. The Pd(II) precatalyst is highly active because it is reduced to the Pd(0) active species more rapidly than previous precatalysts.

Abstract
In this work several molecular properties of symmetrically disubstituted formaldehyde and thioformaldehyde have been studied using a quantum chemistry approach based on density functional theory. Five-membered heteroaromatic rings containing a single group 16 heteroatom were taken into account as the substituents (i.e., furan-2-yl, thiophen-2-yl, selenophen-2-yl, tellurophen-2-yl, and the experimentally as yet unknown polonophen-2-yl). For the resulting ten formaldehyde and thioformaldehyde derivatives, the geometry, energetics, frontier molecular orbitals, dipole moment and polarizability of their molecules were examined in order to establish the effect of ring heteroatom on these properties. Furthermore, these properties were also determined for the molecules in three solvents of low polarity (benzene, chloroform, and dichloromethane) in order to expand our study to include solvent effects. The dipole moment and polarizability of the investigated molecules show regular variations when the ring heteroatom descends through group 16 and the solvent polarity grows. The heteroatom and/or solvent effects on the part of the studied properties are, however, more complex. An attempt is made to rationalize the observed variations in the molecular properties. The conformational behavior of the investigated molecules was also explored and the conformationally weighted values of dipole moment and polarizability are presented. Some molecular properties of symmetrically disubstituted formaldehyde and thioformaldehyde ![]()

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed one-pot procedure for the synthesis of aryl ketones has been developed. Triazine esters when coupled with aryl boronic acids provided aryl ketones in moderate to excellent yields (up to 95%) in the presence of 1 mol % Pd(PPh3)2Cl2 for 30 min.
