Multicomponent synthesis of α-acylamino and α-acyloxy amide derivatives of desmycosin and their activity against gram-negative bacteria

Preparation, Characterization, and Environmental Safety Assessment of Dithiocarbazate Loaded Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles

Dithiocarbazates comprise an important class of Schiff bases with remarkable biological applications due to the imine group present in their structure. However, full exploitation of the biological activity of 3-methyl-5-phenyl-pyrazoline-1-(S-benzyldithiocarbazate) (DTC) is limited due to its easy degradation and poor solubility in aqueous solutions. The loading of DTC into mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSiNPs) can be an excellent strategy to improve the solubility of DTC in the aqueous medium. Therefore, the main goal of the present work was to design MSiNP-DTC and to evaluate the success of the loading process by measuring its physicochemical properties and evaluating the environmental safety of the new DTC formulation using different aquatic organisms, such as the microalgae Raphidocelis subcapitata, the macrophyte Lemna minor, and the marine bacterium Aliivibrio fischeri. DTC, MSiNP, and MSiNP-DTC concentrations ranging from 8.8 to 150 mg L^-1 were tested for all the species, showing low toxicity against aquatic organisms. Loading DTC into MSiNPs caused a slight increase in the toxicity at the concentrations tested, only allowing for the estimation of the effect concentration causing a 20% reduction in bioluminescence or growth rate (EC₂₀). Therefore, despite the potential of MSiNPs as a drug delivery system (DDS), it is of utmost importance to assess its impact on the safety of the new formulations.

Synthesis and characterization of thiophene-derived palladium(ii) complex immobilized on FSM-16 and its application in the novel synthesis of 7-(aryl)-7,12-dihydro-6H-indeno[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-6-one derivatives

The present study aims at synthesizing a palladium complex with a thiophene-carboimine ligand, supported on FSM-16 as a mesoporous silica support. Firstly, the prepared FSM-16 was modified using 3-aminopropyl group. The imine bond was subsequently formed by condensation of FSM-16-propyl amine with thiophene-2-carbaldehyde. Finally, the imine/thiophene-FSM-16 reacted with PdCl₂ to form PdCl₂-imine/thiophene-FSM-16. The structural and physicochemical properties of the prepared nanocomposite were characterized using FT-IR, TEM, XRD, FE-SEM, EDS, BET, and TGA analyses. PdCl₂-imine/thiophene-FSM-16 exhibited efficient catalytic activity in the synthesis of indeno-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine derivatives via a new three-component reaction between indan-1,3-dione, aromatic aldehydes and 3-amino-1H-1,2,4-triazole in water as the green solvent. Significantly, the heterogeneous catalyst can be easily separated from the reaction mixture and reused in another reaction.

The 100 facets of the Passerini reaction

This perspective aims at celebrating the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the Passerini three component reaction. After being nearly neglected for many years, now this reaction has become quite popular, thanks to the achievements of the last 30 years, which have revealed several chances of exploitation in organic synthesis. Though not being comprehensive, this review means to show the various ways that have been used in order to expand the utility of the Passerini reaction. Post-MCR transformations to give heterocycles or peptidomimetics, variants through single component replacement, stereochemical issues, and applications in total syntheses will be especially covered.
