Abstract
Objectives: This study established the diagnostic accuracy of the Fonseca Anamnestic Index (FAI) in relation to the Diagnostic Criteria for TMD (DC/TMD) standard.Methods: A total of 866 TMD patients and 57 TMD-free controls were instructed to answer the FAI and DC/TMD Symptom Questionnaire (SQ). Participants were subsequently categorized into no (NT), pain-related (PT), and/or intra-articular (IT) TMDs using the DC/TMD protocolized examination/algorithms. Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves, best cut-off points, and accuracy measures were determined.Results:The FAI demonstrated high accuracy for detecting all TMDs, PT, and IT (AUC = 0.96-0.98). The best cut-off points were 22.50 for all TMDs/IT and 27.50 for PT. Sensitivity of the FAI was high (94.23-98.21%), but specificity was moderate (87.72%) for all diagnostic categories.Discussion:The diagnostic accuracy of the FAI for identifying pain-related and intra-articular TMDs was high. FAI scores ≥25 points should be used to screen for TMDs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Investigation is to utilize decision trees in conjunction with orthopantomography (OPT) and lateral panoramic graphy (LPG) to diagnose unilateral anterior disc displacement (ADD) of the temporomandibular joint. METHODS In this study, 161 patients with images obtained through all three imaging methods, MRI, OPT, and LPG, were selected from the archives. The participants were categorized into two groups: the study group, comprising 89 patients with unilateral anterior disc displacement, and the control group, consisting of 72 healthy individuals. Measurements, including 2 angles (antero-posterior angle and superior-inferior angle) and 3 distance parameters (anterior joint space distance, superior joint space distance, and posterior joint space distance), were conducted on each imaging modality dataset. To assess the obtained measurement data within each patient, the differences from each measurement were calculated. Statistical analysis of the measurement differences between the control and study groups was carried out with independent t test, and decision trees were generated using the SPSS 25 decision tree module 5.0. RESULTS In ADD patients, it was statistically significantly found that the APA increased while the SIA decreased for angle measurements. But for linear measurements, AS increased while the SS and PS decreased in MRI, OPT, and LPG. CONCLUSION ADD can be diagnosed in OPT and LPG. The identification of the specific type of ADD that occurs in the temporomandibular joint is not feasible.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate whether and how ginsenoside Rg1/ADSCs supplemented with hyaluronic acid as the matrix can improve rabbit temporomandibular joint osteoarthrosis. METHOD Isolate and culture adipose stem cells, measure the activity of differentiated chondrocytes by MTT assay and expression of type II collagen in these cells by immunohistochemistry, in order to evaluate the effect of ginsenoside Rg1 on adipose stem cell proliferation and differentiation into chondrocytes.32 New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into four groups: blank group, model group, control group and experimental group, 8 in each group. Osteoarthritis model was established by intra-articular injection of papain. Two weeks after successful model building, medication was given for the rabbits in control group and experimental group. 0.6 mL ginsenoside Rg1/ ADSCs suspension was injected into superior joint space for the rabbits in control group, once a week; 0.6 mL ginsenoside Rg1/ ADSCs complex was injected for the rabbits in experimental group, once a week. RESULTS Ginsenoside Rg1 can promote ADSCs-derived chondrocytes' activity and expression of type II collagen. Scanning electron microscopy histology images showed cartilage lesions of the experimental group was significantly improved in comparison with control group. CONCLUSION Ginsenoside Rg1 can promote ADSCs differentiate into chondrocytes, and Ginsenoside Rg1/ADSCs supplemented with hyaluronic acid as the matrix can significantly improve rabbit temporomandibular joint osteoarthrosis.

Abstract
Background Disc repositioning by Mitek anchors for anterior disc displacement (ADD) combined with orthognathic surgery gained more stable results than when disc repositioning was not performed. But for hypoplastic condyles, the implantation of Mitek anchors may cause condylar resorption. A new disc repositioning technique that sutures the disc to the posterior articular capsule through open incision avoids the implantation of the metal equipment, but the stability when combined with orthognathic surgery is unknown. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the stability of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc repositioning by open suturing in patients with hypoplastic condyles when combined with orthographic surgery. Methods Patients with ADD and jaw deformity from 2017 to 2021 were included. Disc repositioning by either open suturing or mini-screw anchor were performed simultaneously with orthognathic surgery. MRI and CT images before and after operation and at least 6 months follow-ups were taken to evaluate and compare the TMJ disc and jaw stability. ProPlan CMF 1.4 software was used to measure the position of the jaw, condyle and its surface bone changes. Results Seventeen patients with 20 hypoplastic condyles were included in the study. Among them, 12 joints had disc repositioning by open suturing and 8 by mini-screw anchor. After an average follow-up of 18.1 months, both the TMJ disc and jaw position were stable in the 2 groups except 2 discs moved anteriorly in each group. The overall condylar bone resorption was 8.3% in the open suturing group and 12.5% in the mini-screw anchor group. Conclusions Disc repositioning by open suturing can achieve both TMJ and jaw stability for hypoplastic condyles when combined with orthognathic surgery.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the association between three-dimensional inclination of the osseous structures of temporomandibular joints (TMJ) and the risk of disc displacement (DD). METHODS The 120 TMJs of 60 patients were evaluated. According to magnetic resonance images, disc position was classified as normal, anterior DD with reduction (ADDWR) and without reduction (ADDWoR) and as normal, medial DD (MDD), and lateral DD (LDD) on the sagittal and coronal views, respectively. Condyle and eminence inclinations were measured using cone beam computed tomography. RESULTS Smaller horizontal condylar inclination was associated with ADDWoR (p < 0.05). Larger coronal condylar inclination was associated with ADDWR (p < 0.05) and LDD (p < 0.05). There was no association between sagittal eminence inclination and DD (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION Medial condylar rotation in the axial view may be associated with ADDWoR. The condyle head horizontally inclined in the coronal view may be associated with ADDWR and LDD.

Abstract
Background Chewing side preference (CSP) has been proposed as one etiology of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) as it can induce the structural changes of the temporomandibular joint. But its association with the inclination of the articular eminence (IAE) is unknown. This study aimed to compare IAE between patients with CSP and without CSP. Methods Cone-beam computed tomography images of 90 patients with TMD (mean age of 45.6 years, 69 with CSP, 21 without CSP) and 20 participants without TMD and CSP (mean age of 41.3 years) were measured to compare IAE and depth of the glenoid fossa (DGF) Results IAE and DGF showed a positive correlation among all the participants. Compared with the participants without TMD and CSP, the TMD patients without CSP presented a similar IAE but with a significantly higher value of DGF (p < 0.05); in contrast, the TMD patients with CSP presented a significantly greater IAE and DGF (p < 0.05). No bilateral differences in IAE and DGF were observed in all the participants. Except the male patients with CSP had a deeper fossa than did the female, no differences in IAE and DGF according to gender were observed. Conclusions TMD patients with CSP seem to have a deep glenoid fossa with steep eminence which might be considered one characteristic imaging feature.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc-condyle relationship in asymptomatic young adults. Ninety-three volunteers aged 19-23 years without temporomandibular disorder (TMD) symptoms underwent TMJ magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The condylar centre and apex methods were used to measure and analyse the position of the disc in the oblique sagittal plane, and the reliability of the two methods was compared by calculating the intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC). Furthermore, 18 of the volunteers were randomly selected for three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of the TMJ structure and the disc-condyle relationship. The 3D TMJ structure was established by semi-automatic segmentation of the condyle and articular disc in ITK-SNAP software; the condylar apex method was then performed. It was found that only 33.3% of the posterior edge of the articular discs were located in the normal 12 o'clock position with respect to the condyle. Moreover, this study suggests that the condylar centre method lacks accuracy when compared to the condylar apex method in regard to the measurement of the TMJ disc-condyle relationship (0 < ICCcen < ICCapex < 1). The position of the articular disc (left and right) was more forward in young women when compared to young men. However, there was no significant difference in the TMJ disc-condyle position between the left and right sides in the same individual, although the two joint discs in the same individual were not completely symmetrical.
