A new sensitive organic/inorganic hybrid material based on titanium oxide for the potentiometric detection of iron(III)

Quaternary Ammonium-Mediated Delamination of Europium-Based Metal-Organic Framework into Ultrathin Nanosheets for the Selective Photoelectrochemical Sensing of Fe3

Structural delamination of bulk layered metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) remains a great challenge, largely owing to a lack of general synthetic strategies. Here, we reported a simple solvent-free intercalation strategy for the delamination of rare-earth-based MOF (RE-MOF) with a topology structure of MIL-78 by tuning the chain length of quaternary ammonium salts. Four types of quaternary ammonium salts, involving tetraethylammonium bromide (TEAB), tetrapropylammonium bromide (TPAB), tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB), and hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) were introduced to investigate their intercalation capabilities. It is evident in our case that the interruption/intercalation behavior of quaternary ammonium salts differs with their steric structures, and the chain-like CTAB can induce obvious delamination of MIL-78 crystals. Particularly, the CTAB-intercalated ultrathin Eu-based MIL-78 nanosheets exhibited unique selective photoelectrochemical sensing property toward trace amounts of Fe³⁺ ions in aqueous solution with a detection limit of 0.0899 μM at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3. These results demonstrated a green bottom-up strategy to obtain high-quality RE-MOF nanosheets for potential photocurrent response applications.

A Deferasirox Derivative That Acts as a Multifaceted Platform for the Detection and Quantification of Fe3+

Here, we report that ExSO3H, a synthetically accessible, water-soluble, non-toxic derivative of the clinical iron chelator deferasirox, acts as a colorimetric chemosensor that permits the detection and quantification of Fe3+ in aqueous samples at pH 2–5. In addition, we observed that a fluorescent turn-on response was produced when this chelator was allowed to interact with human serum albumin (HSA). This fluorescence was quenched in the presence of Fe3+, thus allowing us to monitor the presence of this biologically important metal cation via two independent methods.

Solid-state carbon-13 NMR and computational characterization of the N719 ruthenium sensitizer adsorbed on TiO₂ nanoparticles

The ruthenium-containing sensitizing dye N719 grafted on TiO2 nanoparticles was investigated by solid-state NMR. The carbon resonances are assigned by means of (13)C cross-polarized dipolar dephasing experiments. DFT calculations of the carbon magnetic shielding tensors accurately describe the changes in chemical shifts observed upon grafting onto a titania surface via one or two carboxylic functions in the plane defined by the two isothiocyanate groups.

Spectral properties of 4-(4-hydroxy-1-naphthylazo)benzenesulfonic acid and its application for colorimetric determination of trace Fe3+

A multifunctional dye, 4-(4-hydroxy-1-naphthylazo)benzenesulfonic acid was identified and synthesized and used to determine trace Fe³⁺ in three real environmental water samples. The mechanism of action between the dye and Fe³⁺ ion is discussed in detail.
