Synthesis, characterization and biological activity of lanthanum(III) complexes containing 2-methylene–1,10-phenanthroline units bridged by aliphatic diamines

Antiproliferative activity of platinum(II) and copper(II) complexes containing novel biquinoxaline ligands

Nowadays, cancer represents one of the major causes of death in humans worldwide, which renders the quest for new and improved antineoplastic agents to become an urgent issue in the field of biomedicine and human health. The present research focuses on the synthesis of 2,3,2',3'-tetra(pyridin-2-yl)-6,6'-biquinoxaline) and (2,3,2',3'-tetra(thiophen-2-yl)-6,6'-biquinoxaline) containing copper(II) and platinum(II) compounds as prodrug candidates. The binding interaction of these compounds with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) and human serum albumin were assessed with UV titration, thermal decomposition, viscometric, and fluorometric methods. The thermodynamical parameters and the temperature-dependent binding constant (K'b) values point out to spontaneous interactions between the complexes and CT-DNA via the van der Waals interactions and/or hydrogen bonding, except Cu(ttbq)Cl2 for which electrostatic interaction was proposed. The antitumor activity of the complexes against several human glioblastomata, lung, breast, cervix, and prostate cell lines were investigated by examining cell viability, oxidative stress, apoptosis-terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling, in vitro migration and invasion, in vitro-comet DNA damage, and plasmid DNA interaction assays. The U87 and HeLa cells were investigated as the cancer cells most sensitive to our complexes. The exerted cytotoxic effect of complexes was attributed to the formation of the reactive oxygen species in vitro. It is clearly demonstrated that Cu(ttbq)Cl2, Pt(ttbq)Cl2, and Pt(tpbq)Cl2 have the highest DNA degradation potential and anticancer effect among the tested complexes by leading apoptosis. The wound healing and invasion analysis results also supported the higher anticancer activity of these two compounds.

Metal Chelates of Sulfafurazole Azo Dye Derivative: Synthesis, Structure Affirmation, Antimicrobial, Antitumor, DNA Binding, and Molecular Docking Simulation

A series of divalent and one trivalent metal chelates of the azo ligand resulting from coupling of sulfafurazole diazonium chloride with resorcinol have been designed and synthesized. Structure investigation of the isolated chelates have been achieved by applying spectroscopic and analytical tools which collaborated to assure the formation of the metal chelates in the molar ratios of 1L: 1M for Ni(II), Co(II), and Fe(III) chelates, where Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes formed in the ratio 2L : 1M. The geometrical arrangement around the metal canters was concluded from UV-Vis spectra to be octahedral for all metal chelates. The attachment of the ligand to the metal ions took place through the azo group nitrogen and o-hydroxyl oxygen through proton displacement leading to the ligand being in monobasic bidentate binding mode. Antimicrobial and antitumor activities of the interested compounds have been evaluated against alternative microorganisms and cancer cells, respectively, in a trial to investigate their extent of activity in addition to docking studies. The mode of interaction of the compounds with SS-DNA has been examined by UV-Vis spectra and viscosity studies.

Cytotoxicity and mechanism of action of metal complexes: An overview

After the discovery of cisplatin, many metal compounds were investigated for the therapy of diseases, especially cancer. The high therapeutic potential of metal-based compounds is related to the special properties of these compounds, such as their redox activity and ability to target vital biological sites. The overproduction of ROS and the consequent destruction of the membrane potential of mitochondria and/or the DNA helix is one of the known pathways leading to the induction of apoptosis by metal complexes. The apoptosis process can occur via the death receptor pathway and/or the mitochondrial pathway. The expression of Bcl2 proteins and the caspase family play critical roles in these pathways. In addition to apoptosis, autophagy is another process that regulates the suppression or promotion of various cancers through a dual action. On the other hand, the ability to interact with DNA is an important property found in several metal complexes with potent antiproliferative effects against cancer cells. These interactions were classified into two important categories: covalent/coordinated or subtle, and non-coordinated interactions. The anticancer activity of metal complexes is sometimes achieved by the simultaneous combination of several mechanisms. In this review, the anticancer effect of metal complexes is mechanistically discussed by different pathways, and some effective agents on their antiproliferative properties are explained.

G-quadruplex-mediated specific recognition, stabilization and transcriptional repression of bcl-2 by small molecule

The presence of the G-quadruplex (G4) structure in the promoter region of the human bcl-2 oncogenes makes it a promising target for developing anti-cancer therapeutics. Bcl-2 inhibits apoptosis, and its frequent overexpression in cancer cells contributes to tumor initiation, progression, and resistance to therapy. Small molecules that can specifically bind to bcl-2 G4 with high affinity and selectivity are remaining elusive. Here, we report that small molecule 1,3-bis-) furane-2yl-methylidene-amino) guanidine (BiGh) binds to bcl-2 G4 DNA structure with very high affinity and selectivity over other genomic G4 DNA structures and duplex DNA. BiGh stabilizes folded parallel conformation of bcl-2 G4 via non-covalent and electrostatic interactions and increases the thermal stabilization up to 15 °C. The ligand significantly suppresses the bcl-2 transcription in HeLa cells by a G4-dependent mechanism and induces cell cycle arrest which promotes apoptosis. The in silico ADME profiling confirms the potential 'drug-likeness' of BiGh. Our results showed that BiGh stabilizes the bcl-2 G-quadruplex motif, downregulates the bcl-2 gene transcription as well as translation process in cervical cancer cells, and exhibits potential anti-cancer activity. This work provides a potential platform for the development of lead compound(s) as G4 stabilizers with drug-like properties of BiGh for cancer therapeutics.

Piperine analogs arrest c-myc gene leading to downregulation of transcription for targeting cancer

G-quadruplex (G4) structures are considered a promising therapeutic target in cancer. Since Ayurveda, Piperine has been known for its medicinal properties. Piperine shows anticancer properties by stabilizing the G4 motif present upstream of the c-myc gene. This gene belongs to a group of proto-oncogenes, and its aberrant transcription drives tumorigenesis. The transcriptional regulation of the c-myc gene is an interesting approach for anticancer drug design. The present study employed a chemical similarity approach to identify Piperine similar compounds and analyzed their interaction with cancer-associated G-quadruplex motifs. Among all Piperine analogs, PIP-2 exhibited strong selectivity, specificity, and affinity towards c-myc G4 DNA as elaborated through biophysical studies such as fluorescence emission, isothermal calorimetry, and circular dichroism. Moreover, our biophysical observations are supported by molecular dynamics analysis and cellular-based studies. Our study showed that PIP-2 showed higher toxicity against the A549 lung cancer cell line but lower toxicity towards normal HEK 293 cells, indicating increased efficacy of the drug at the cellular level. Biological evaluation assays such as TFP reporter assay, quantitative real-time PCR (qRT- PCR), and western blotting suggest that the Piperine analog-2 (PIP-2) stabilizes the G-quadruplex motif located at the promoter site of c-myc oncogene and downregulates its expression. In conclusion, Piperine analog PIP-2 may be used as anticancer therapeutics as it affects the c-myc oncogene expression via G-quadruplex mediated mechanism.

KP772 overcomes multiple drug resistance in malignant lymphoma and leukemia cells in vitro by inducing Bcl-2-independent apoptosis and upregulation of Harakiri

Despite high cure rates in pediatric patients with acute leukemia, development of resistance limits the efficacy of antileukemic therapy. Tris(1,10-phenanthroline)tris(thiocyanato-κN)lanthanum(III) (KP772) is an experimental antineoplastic agent to which multidrug-resistant cell models have shown hypersensitivity. Antiproliferative and apoptotic activities of KP772 were tested in leukemia, lymphoma and solid tumor cell lines as well as primary leukemia cells (isolated from the bone marrow of a child with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The ability to overcome drug resistances was investigated in doxorubicin- and vincristine-resistant cell lines. Real-time PCR was used to gain insight into the mechanism of apoptosis induction. KP772 inhibited proliferation and induced apoptosis in various leukemia and lymphoma cell lines in a concentration-dependent manner (LC₅₀ = 1-2.5 µM). Primary AML cells were also sensitive to KP772, whereas daunorubicin showed no significant effect. KP772 induces apoptosis independently of Bcl-2, Smac, and the CD95 receptor and is also effective in caspase 3-deficient MCF7 cells, indicating that apoptosis is partly triggered independently of caspase 3. mRNA expression profiling revealed an upregulation of the BH3-only Bcl-2 protein Harakiri in the course of KP772-induced apoptosis. Remarkably, KP772 overcame drug resistance to doxorubicin and vincristine in vitro, and the apoptotic effect in resistant cells was even superior to that in non-resistant parental cells. In combination with vincristine, doxorubicin and cytarabine, synergistic effects were observed in BJAB cells. The cytotoxic potency in vitro/ex vivo and the remarkable ability to overcome multidrug resistance propose KP772 as a promising candidate drug for antileukemic therapy, especially of drug-refractory malignancies.Graphic abstract.

Unraveling the binding mechanism of an Oxovanadium(IV) - Curcumin complex on albumin, DNA and DNA gyrase by in vitro and in silico studies and evaluation of its hemocompatibility

An oxovanadium(IV) - curcumin based complex, viz. [VO(cur)(2,2´-bipy)(H₂O)] where cur is curcumin and bipy is bipyridine, previously synthesized, has been studied for interaction with albumin and DNA. Fluorescence emission spectroscopy was used to evaluate the interaction of the complex with bovine serum albumin (BSA) and the BSA-binding constant (K_b) was calculated to be 2.56 x 10⁵ M^-1, whereas a single great-affinity binding site was revealed. Moreover, the hemocompatibility test demonstrated that the complex presented low hemolytic fraction (mostly below 1%), in all concentrations tested (0-250 μΜ of complex, 5% DMSO) assuring a safe application in interaction with blood. The binding of the complex to DNA was also investigated using absorption, fluorescence, and viscometry methods indicating a binding through a minor groove mode. From competitive studies with ethidium bromide the apparent binding constant value to DNA was estimated to be 4.82 x 10⁶ M^-1. Stern-Volmer quenching phenomenon gave a Κ_SV constant [1.92 (± 0.05) x 10⁴ M^-1] and k_q constant [8.33 (± 0.2) x 10¹¹ M^-1s^-1]. Molecular docking simulations on the crystal structure of BSA, calf thymus DNA, and DNA gyrase, as well as pharmacophore analysis for BSA target, were also employed to study in silico the ability of [VO(cur)(2,2´-bipy)(H₂O)] to bind to these target bio-macromolecules and explain the observed in vitro activity.

Multispectroscopic and molecular docking studies on DNA binding of guaifenesin drug

The interaction mechanism of guaifenesin drug; (RS)-3-(2-methoxyphenoxy)propane-1,2-diol; and calf thymus DNA was characterized by multiple spectroscopic and molecular docking approaches. The changes in drug electronic absorption with increasing DNA concentration and also the observed significant quenching of guaifenesin emission in the presence of DNA proved the complex formation between guaifenesin and DNA during the interactions. Both the binding constant and thermodynamic parameters for the interaction have been calculated in 283, 298, and 310 K at pH 7.4. The results Δ H 0  = 17.87 kJ/mol and Δ S 0  = 143.31 J/mol.K confirmed the role of hydrophobic force in the guaifenesin-DNA interaction. Circular dichroism study showed that guaifenesin causes decrease in the negative band of CT-DNA and at the same time the positive band increases which indicated the transition of DNA conformation from B to A. KI quenching experiment specifies that guaifenesin binds to DNA via nonintercalative mode. The competitive studies based on known Hoechst 33258 and methylene blue probes proved the groove binding mode in guaifenesin-DNA adduct. Further, full agreement of molecular docking simulation with the experimental results of binding constant and interaction mode, support high accuracy of the results.

Curcumin analogs exhibit anti-cancer activity by selectively targeting G-quadruplex forming c-myc promoter sequence

Curcumin exhibits a broad spectrum of beneficial health properties that include anti-tumor and anti-cancer activities. The down-regulation of c-myc transcription via stabilizing the G-quadruplex structure formed at the promoter region of the human c-myc gene allows the repression in cancer growth. Small molecules can bind and stabilize this structure to provide an exciting and promising strategy for anti-cancer therapeutics. Herein, we investigated the interaction of Curcumin and its synthetic analogs with G-quadruplex DNA formed at the c-myc promoter by using various biophysical and biochemical assays. Further, its cytotoxic effect and mechanistic insights were explored in various cancer cell lines as well as in multicellular tumor spheroid (MCTS) model. The MCTS possesses almost similar microenvironment as avascular tumors, and micro-metastases can be used as a suitable model for the small molecule-based therapeutics development. Our study provides an expanded overview of the anti-cancer effect of a new Curcumin analog via targeting G-quadruplex structures formed at the promoter region of the human c-myc gene.

The effect of neonicotinoid insecticide thiacloprid on the structure and stability of DNA

The application of pesticides and chemical fertilizers constitutes a potential risk to human and animals due to the presence of their residues in the food. Thiacloprid belongs to a group of neonicotinoid insecticides. It shows a cytotoxic/cytostatic effect in human peripheral blood lymphocytes probably due to DNA damage. The use of thiacloprid is increasingly widespread worldwide, therefore is very important the assessment of its possible genotoxic and cytotoxic effects on a living organism. That is the reason why we studied the thiacloprid influence on the structure and stability of DNA in presented work. We have been studied the thiacloprid interaction with calf thymus DNA. Association constant was determined by fluorescence spectroscopy using equilibrium receptor-ligand binding analysis. The thermal denaturation of DNA was used to identify the mode of interaction. Viscosity changes were recorded to confirm/disconfirm the intercalation mode of interaction. Given the results, we can conclude that neonicotinoid pesticide thiacloprid destabilizes DNA. It changes the structure and stability of DNA through binding into the minor groove by hydrophobic or hydrogen interactions.

Synthesis and DNA binding of novel bioactive thiazole derivatives pendent to N-phenylmorpholine moiety

An easy access to a series of N-phenylmorpholine derivatives linked with thiazole or formazan moieties were achieved using simple experimental procedure under conventional and microwaves irradiation conditions. The reaction of 2-(N-phenylmorpholine)ethylidene)hydrazine-1-carbothioamide derivatives and [1-(4-morpholin-4-yl-phenyl)-ethylidene]-hydrazine with a variety of hydrazonoyl chlorides or phenacyl bromide derivatives afforded the corresponding thiazoles or N-substitutedhydrazino-derivatives linked to N-phenylmorpholine moiety in good to excellent yields. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds were fully emphasized and characterized by spectroscopic as well as elemental analyses. The mode of binding of some selected compounds with SS-DNA was evaluated using UV-Vis absorption, and viscosity measurements. The results showed intercalation binding mode of most of the tested compounds. Both antimicrobial and anti-cancer activities have been studied for some selected compounds from synthetic derivatives. Their results showed a remarkable efficacy for some derivatives against both examined microbes and cancer cells.

Synthesis, Structural Characterization, Molecular Modeling and DNA Binding Ability of CoII, NiII, CuII, ZnII, PdII and CdII Complexes of Benzocycloheptenone Thiosemicarbazone Ligand

Background & Objective:

Six novel complexes of transition metal namely, [CoLCl2(H2O)2]0.5H2O, [NiLCl2(H2O)2]0.5H2O, [CuLCl2]0.5H2O, [ZnLCl2], [PdLCl2]H2O and [CdLCl2]H2O, where L is benzocycloheptenone thiosemicarbazone ligand, have been obtained. The confirmation of the structures of the obtained metal chelates depends on the different spectral and physicochemical techniques including CHN analysis, infrared spectra, molar conductivity measurement, UV-vis, thermogravimetric analysis and magnetic moment. The infrared spectral results ascertained that the ligand behaved as neutral bidentate connecting the metal centers via N and S atoms of C=N and C=S groups, respectively.

Methods:

The UV-Vis, molar conductivity and magnetic susceptibility results implied that the geometrical structures of the metal chelates are octahedral for Co(II) & Ni(II) complexes, tetrahedral for Zn(II) & Cd(II) complexes and square planar for Cu(II) & Pd(II) complexes which have been confirmed by molecular modeling studies.

Conclusion:

Moreover, the mode of interaction between some chosen metal complexes towards SSDNA has been thoughtful by UV-Vis spectra and viscosity measurements. The value of the intrinsic binding constant (Kb) for the examined compounds has been found to be lower than the binding affinity of the classical intercalator ethedium bromide. Also, the viscosity measurements of the complexes proved that they bind to DNA, most likely, by a non-intercalative mode like H-bonding or electrostatic interactions.

Synthesis, characterization and DNA binding studies of a new ibuprofen-platinum(II) complex

The study is focused on the synthesis of a novel complex of ibuprofen and Platinum(II). The formation of the product was characterized through analytical tools including Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, mass spectrometry as well as density functional theory. Using the continuous variation method, the stoichiometry of Pt(HIb)₂(Cl)₂ binding on DNA (ct-DNA) determines as a single class of binding. Based on the results of Stern-Volmer analysis on the fluorescence quenching data, the quenching mechanism was determined to be static in nature. The studies indicated that the complex could bind DNA molecules via groove binding for four major reasons. Initially, the complex-DNA binding constant determined based on spectrophotometric data were found to be comparable to those of groove-binding drugs. In addition, the competitive fluorimetric based on the applications of Hoechst 33258 proved the ability of Pt(HIb)₂(Cl)₂ to displace with Hoechst in its DNA-bounded form, reflecting the competition between Pt(HIb)₂(Cl)₂ and Hoechst for groove binding. Further, no considerable changes were observed in the intensity of the methylene blue (MB)-DNA system after adding the Pt(HIb)₂(Cl)₂ complex, reflecting the stability of MB molecules in the DNA helix and a non-intercalative bonds of Pt(HIb)₂(Cl)₂ interaction on DNA. Finally, minor changes in the viscosity of DNA in the presence of Pt(HIb)₂(Cl)₂, indicated that changes in the length of DNA in the presence of the complex are negligible, supporting the assumption of DNA groove-binding. Also induced CD spectral changes and docking simulations were in favor of the groove mechanism for the Pt(HIb)₂(Cl)₂-DNA binding.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Biomolecular Interaction, Anti-Cancer and Anti-Angiogenic Properties of Cobalt(III) Schiff Base Complexes

Two cobalt(III) Schiff base complexes, trans-[Co(salen)(DA)₂](ClO₄) (1) and trans-[Co(salophen)(DA)₂](ClO₄) (2) (where salen: N,N'-bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamine, salopen: N,N'-bis(salicylidene)-1,2-phenylenediamine, DA: dodecylamine) were synthesised and characterised using various spectroscopic and analytical techniques. The binding affinity of both the complexes with CT-DNA was explored adopting UV-visible, fluorescence, circular dichroism spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry techniques. The results revealed that both the complexes interacted with DNA via intercalation as well as notable groove binding. Protein (BSA) binding ability of these complexes was investigated by absorption and emission spectroscopy which indicate that these complexes engage in strong hydrophobic interaction with BSA. The mode of interaction between these complexes and CT-DNA/BSA was studied by molecular docking analysis. The in vitro cytotoxic property of the complexes was evaluated in A549 (human small cell lung carcinoma) and VERO (African green monkey kidney cells). The results revealed that the complexes affect viability of the cells. AO and EB staining and cell cycle analysis revealed that the mode of cell death is apoptosis. Both the complexes showed profound inhibition of angiogenesis as revealed in in-vivo chicken chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay. Of the two complexes, the complex 2 proved to be much more efficient in affecting the viability of lung cancer cells than complex 1. These results indicate that the cobalt(III) Schiff base complexes in this study can be potentially used for cancer chemotherapy and as inhibitor of angiogenesis, in general, and lung cancer in particular, for which there is need for substantiation at the level of signalling mechanisms and gene expressions.

On the preferences of five-membered chelate rings in coordination chemistry: insights from the Cambridge Structural Database and theoretical calculations

The purpose of this review is to give an overview of three important N-bidentate ligands: 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy), and ethylenediamine (en). We have not attempted to be comprehensive because of the huge amount of activity being done in coordination chemistry using these ligands. Instead we present a full structural and geometrical study by using the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) combined with theoretical calculations that allow us to parameterize their coordinating properties and ability to coordinate to transition and non-transition metals. More importantly, we illustrate that upon coordination and formation of the five-membered chelate ring, these ligands are able to adapt themselves to the requirements of the different metals by changing the MN distances and NMN angles. Therefore, a redefinition of the preferences of these ligands to metals with large ionic radii is needed. Finally, we will present some facts about the participation of these ligands in inorganic-organic hybrids (IOHs) based on Keggin polyoxometalates (POMs).

Synthesis, DNA and BSA binding, in vitro anti-proliferative and in vivo anti-angiogenic properties of some cobalt(iii) Schiff base complexes

In the recent times metal complexes with dual mechanisms of action, anti-cancer and anti-angiogenic, have gained substantial interest in the field of medicinal chemistry.

Example of two novel thiocyanato bridged copper (II) complexes derived from substituted thiosemicarbazone ligand: structural elucidation, DNA/albumin binding, biological profile analysis, and molecular docking study

Two novel copper (II) substituted thiosemicarbazone Schiff base complexes [Cu(L₁)(µ-SCN)]_n(NO₃)₂ (1) and [Cu₂(µ-SCN)(SCN)(L₂)₂](NO₃) (2) have been synthesized by condensing substituted thiosemicarbazides like 4-methyl-3-thiosemicarbazide or 4-ethyl-3-thiosemicarbazide with 2-acetylpyridine. Both the metal complexes 1 and 2 are characterized using different spectroscopic techniques like IR, UV-Vis, ESR spectroscopy followed by elemental analysis, cyclic voltammetric measurement and single crystal X-ray structure analysis. X-ray crystal structure analysis reveal that complex 1 is polymeric while complex 2 is dimeric in nature. The coordination geometry around Cu(II) are square pyramidal in which thiosemicarbazone Schiff base ligand coordinate to the central Cu(II) atom in tridentate fashion. The prominent interaction patterns of 1 and 2 with CT-DNA were examined by employing electronic absorption and emission spectral titrations, cyclic voltammetry and viscosity measurements. All the results show that CT-DNA binds with both copper (II) complexes 1 and 2. Furthermore, protein binding ability in vitro of complexes 1 and 2 with both BSA and HSA were carried out using multispectroscopic techniques and a static quenching pattern was observed in both cases. Molecular docking study was employed to ascertain the exact mechanism of action of 1 and 2 with DNA and protein molecules (BSA and HSA). In vitro cytotoxicity activity of complexes 1 and 2 toward AGS and A549 was evaluated using MTT assay which demonstrates that both complexes 1 and 2 have superior prospectus to act as anticancer agents. Synthesis and Antitumor Activity of New Group 3 Metallocene Complexes

The quest for alternative drugs with respect to the well-known cis-platin and its derivatives, which are still used in more than 50% of the treatment regimens for patients suffering from cancer, is highly needed. In this context, organometallic compounds, which are defined as metal complexes containing at least one direct covalent metal-carbon bond, have recently been found to be promising anticancer drug candidates. A series of new metallocene complexes with scandium, yttrium, and neodymium have been prepared and characterized. Some of these compounds show a very interesting anti-proliferative activity in triple negative breast cancer cell line (MDA.MB231) and the non-hormone sensitive prostate cancer cell line (DU145). Moreover, the interaction of some of them with biological membranes, evaluated using liposomes as bio-membrane mimetic model systems, seems to be relevant. The biological activity of these compounds, particularly those based on yttrium, already effective at low concentrations on both cancer cell lines, should be taken into account with regard to new therapeutic approaches in anticancer therapy.

Development of viscometric methods for studying the interaction of various porphyrins with DNA. Part III: Meso-tetra-(3N-alylpyridyl)porphyrin and its Cu-, Co- and Zn-containing derivatives

Present research continues the development of viscometry method for studying porphyrin–DNA interactions.Water soluble cationic meso-tetra-(3[Formula: see text]-alylpyridyl) porphyrin (H2TAlPyP3) and its Cu-, Co- and Zn-containing derivatives were studied using UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and viscometry in order to clarify the effect of chemical structure (presence of double bond in structure of a side radical) of porphyrins and ability to affect the DNA structure. Their binding constant ([Formula: see text] and stoichiometry ([Formula: see text] were determined based on the absorbance spectra for each DNA–porphyrin complex. The results were compared with results of previously conducted similar studies with meso-tetra-(3[Formula: see text]-hydroxyethylpyridyl) porphyrins. It was shown, that the planar porphyrins H2TAlPyP3 and CuTAlPyP3 interact with DNA predominantly by intercalation at low relative concentrations of [Formula: see text](([Formula: see text] [Formula: see text] [Porphyrin]/[DNA])) and by external binding mode at high values of [Formula: see text], whereas the change of chemical structure of peripheral radicals of porphyrins does not absolutely affect on the mechanism of interaction of outside binders CoTAlPyP3 and ZnTAlPyP3 with DNA.
