Abstract
Background Numerous studies have suggested the health benefits of a plant-based dietary pattern. However, whether this dietary pattern is associated with health benefits for centenarians remains unexplored. Our study aimed to investigate the correlation between 16 widely consumed Chinese food items and the incidence rates of chronic diseases and all-cause mortality among centenarians. Methods We conducted a dietary survey on 3372 centenarians with an average age of 102.33 y in China. After rigorous screening, we identified 2675 centenarians, who underwent a 10-y follow-up study with all-cause mortality as the primary outcome. We developed 6 dietary patterns on the basis of the food consumption frequency of each participant. To model the impact of missing values, we employed multiple imputation methods, verifying the robustness of models. Results The overall plant-based diet index (PDI), healthy plant-based diet index (hPDI), unhealthy plant-based diet index (uPDI), healthy plant-based foods index (HPF), unhealthy plant-based foods index (uHPF), and animal-based foods index (AF) scores among centenarians in China were 46.95 ± 6.29, 44.43 ± 5.76, 51.09 ± 6.26, 21.63 ± 4.79, 9.91 ± 2.41, and 14.59 ± 3.58, respectively. High scores of PDI, hPDI, and HPF were associated with a lower risk of chronic diseases. In the 10-y follow-up study, 92.90% of centenarians have died. The high scores of the PDI (HRPDI = 0.81), hPDI (HRhPDI = 0.79), and HPF (HRHPF = 0.81) scores were significantly associated with a lower risk of death compared with the low scores. Conversely, the high AF score (HRAF = 1.17) was significantly associated with a higher risk of death compared with the low scores. Conclusion Despite the fact that a higher score in both a predominantly plant-based dietary pattern and a healthy dietary pattern can decrease the death among centenarians, not all HPFs have this effect. A higher AF predicted a higher risk of mortality, whereas higher PDI, hPDI, and HPF were associated with a lower risk of mortality among Chinese centenarians.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Little evidence on the association between adiposity measures and all-cause mortality was observed among centenarians, and no targeted development of optimal weight recommendations for them. OBJECTIVE To comprehensively assess the association between adiposity indices and all-cause mortality among centenarians. DESIGN SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS This prospective population-based cohort study included 1002 centenarians registered in 18 counties and cities in Hainan Province from June 2014 to May 2021. The age of participants at baseline was provided by the civil affairs bureau and verified before enrollment. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES All-cause mortality was rigorously confirmed as the primary outcome. BMI was calculated by height and weight. BRI was calculated by height and waist circumference. RESULTS At baseline, the mean (SD) age was 102.8 ± 2.7 years, and 180 participants (18.0%) were men. The median follow-up time was 5.0 (4.8-5.5) years, with 522 deaths. In BMI categories, compared with the lowest group (mean BMI = 14.2 kg/m2), the highest group (mean BMI = 22.2 kg/m2) had lower mortality (hazard ratio [HR], 0.61; 95%CI, 0.47-0.79) (P for trend = 0.001). In BRI categories, compared with the lowest group (mean BRI = 2.3), the highest group (mean BRI = 5.7) had lower mortality (hazard ratio [HR], 0.66; 95%CI, 0.51-0.85) (P for trend = 0.002), and the risk did not decrease after BRI exceeded 3.9 in women. Higher BRI was associated with lower HRs after adjusting for interaction with comorbidities status. E-values analysis suggested robustness to unmeasured confounding. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE BMI and BRI were inverse linear associated with mortality risk in the whole population, while BRI was observed to be J-shaped in women. The interaction of lower multiple complication incidence and BRI had a significant effect on the reduced risk of all-cause mortality.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Centenarians are used as a model of healthy ageing and longevity. Diet is a factor known to affect mortality in middle aged adults and elderly. However, it is unknown whether diet has an impact on survival to 100 + years. The aims of this systematic review were to summarize the evidence on (i) the association between dietary patterns in late adult life and survival to 100 + years and (ii) the common characteristics across dietary patterns that are shown to be positively associated with survival to 100 + years.
Methods
We performed a systematic literature search in MEDLINE and EMBASE, and a hand search at four longevity projects homepages up to 4 June 2021. We searched for cohort and case–control studies investigating the association between dietary patterns and all-cause mortality among individuals aged ≥ 65 years at enrolment regardless of their health status and residence. Studies were excluded if follow-up was performed too soon to allow the population or a subgroup of it to have become 100 + years of age.
Results
Of 3,685 identified records 108 reports were retrieved and full text screened. No studies met our inclusion criteria, thus the review process resulted in no eligible studies found. Hence, no risk of bias assessment and no synthesis of data was performed.
Conclusions
No studies have investigated dietary patterns in late adult life in relation to survival to 100 + years of age. We have observed that as of June 2021 published cohort studies exist investigating all-cause mortality risk from different dietary patterns among the oldest old, but follow-up has been performed before the cohort could have reached 100 years of age. However, cohorts do exist where data on dietary habits in adult life has been collected decades ago and where follow-up in 2022 will allow the participants to have become 100 + years old.

Abstract
PURPOSE The Hainan Cohort was established to investigate the incidence, morbidity and mortality of non-communicable diseases and their risk factors in the community population. PARTICIPANTS The baseline investigation of the Hainan Cohort study was initiated in five main areas of Hainan, China, from June 2018 to October 2020. A multistage cluster random-sampling method was used to obtain samples from the general population. Baseline assessments included a questionnaire survey, physical examination, blood and urine sample collection, and laboratory measurements, and outdoor environmental data were obtained. FINDINGS TO DATA A total of 14 443 participants aged 35-74 years were recruited at baseline, with a participation rate of 90.1%. The mean age of the participants was 48.8 years; 51.8% were men, and 83.7% had a secondary school or higher education. The crude prevalence of diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, hypertension, hyperuricaemia, chronic bronchitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, asthma, cancer, chronic hepatitis and metabolic syndrome were 8.6%, 9.2%, 2.0%, 37.1%, 7.1%, 2.3%, 1.4%, 2.1%, 4.1%, 2.2% and 14.5%, respectively. FUTURE PLANS The Hainan Cohort is a dynamic cohort with no end date. All participants will be monitored annually for cause-specific mortality and morbidity until death. Long-term follow-up will be conducted every 5 years. The baseline population is considered to expand in the next wave of follow-up, depending on the availability of funding support.
