Abstract
BACKGROUND Inflammation plays a crucial role in occurrence of kidney injury, and specific dietary patterns can influence systemic inflammation levels. However, the relationship between dietary inflammatory potential and early-stage kidney damage remains unclear. METHOD 2,108 participants was recruited from 2001-2002 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) is utilized to assess dietary inflammatory potential, calculated through a 24-h dietary recall questionnaire. Early renal injury was evaluated using urinary albumin to creatinine (UACR), cystatin C (CysC), β-2 microglobulin (β2M), and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) based on serum creatinine (eGFRs), cystatin C (eGFRc), and both Scr and CysC (eGFRs&c). Participant characteristics were analyzed, and association between DII, hypertension, and early renal injury markers was explored using multiple linear and logistic regression models. RESULTS The average age of participants was 53.9 years. DII exhibited a positive correlation with UACR (β = -0.048[0.017,0.078]), β2M (β = 0.019[0.010,0.027]), CysC (β = 0.012 [0.004,0.021]). Conversely, a negative correlation was observed between DII and eGFRc (β = -1.126[-1.554, -0.699]), eGFRs&c (β=-1.101[-1.653, -0.549]). A significant association was observed between hypertension and abnormality of early kidney damage markers. Subgroup analysis reveals that the positive correlation between DII and the occurrence of abnormal markers of early kidney damage is only observed in individuals with hypertension. Furthermore, an interaction between DII and hypertension was detected in eGFRs&c (OR:1.250[1.042, 1.499], p for interaction = 0.03). CONCLUSION Higher levels of DII may be associated with occurrence of early kidney damage. For individuals with hypertension, avoiding excessive consumption of pro-inflammatory foods may reduce the risk of renal injury.

Abstract
PURPOSE The primary objective of this study was to conduct a comparative analysis of the anti-inflammatory activity between Etoricoxib (ETO) and Matcha green tea (MG) in the context of acute kidney injury (AKI) induced by ionizing gamma radiation (IR) in female rats. Furthermore, the potential impact of whole body IR exposure on the intestinal system and serum estradiol levels was investigated. Additionally, it was acknowledged that the ETO and MG treatments might have exerted favorable effects on the intestinal and hormonal responses. MATERIALS AND METHODS Six groups of rats were assigned to different treatments: control, ETO, MG, irradiation (IRR), ETO + IRR, and MG + IRR. The evaluation included measuring the total phenolic and flavonoid contents of ETO and MG, as well as assessing their antioxidant activity, radical scavenging capacity, reducing power, and total antioxidant capacity. Kidney function was assessed through serum creatinine and urea levels. Oxidative stress markers, including superoxide dismutase, glutathione, malondialdehyde, and catalase, were measured to evaluate the antioxidant effects of ETO and MG. The anti-inflammatory potential of the treatments was evaluated by measuring STAT-3 and interleukins (IL-6, IL-23, and IL-17) using an ELISA assay. Prostaglandin E2 receptor (PGE-2) mRNA expression, histopathological examination, and immunohistochemistry for NF-κB inhibitors were performed to investigate the underlying mechanisms in kidney tissue homogenates. Histopathological changes and DNA fragmentation in the intestinal tissues were determined, and the characterization of Matcha green tea was performed using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). This allowed for the identification and quantification of various compounds present in Matcha green tea. Furthermore, the study assessed the effect of IR and treatments on estrogen levels in female rats. RESULTS Data showed that both ETO and MG had the potential to mitigate the adverse effects of AKI induced by IR. Notably, MG exhibited greater efficacy in attenuating oxidative stress and inflammation associated with renal injury. These findings revealed and compared the effects of ETO and MG in alleviating AKI caused by IR. MG demonstrated greater anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, highlighting its potential as a natural therapeutic agent. CONCLUSIONS These results contribute to the growing evidence supporting the use of MG in managing IR-induced renal complications. Future studies should focus on elucidating the molecular mechanisms and optimizing the application of MG in clinical settings.

Abstract
PURPOSE Tea and coffee are the most commonly consumed types of drinks, identified with multiple health benefits. However, the association between tea and coffee intake and postsurgical hypothyroidism and hypoparathyroidism (PHypoTP) is still unclear. Therefore, the objective of this study is to explore the effect of tea and coffee intake on the risk of PHypoTP. DESIGN Two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR). METHODS The primary approach for MR estimates was the inverse-variance-weighted method. MR-Egger, MR Pleiotropy RESidual Sum and Outlier (PRESSO), weighted median, simple mode, and weighted mode were used to detect pleiotropy and heterogeneity. FINDINGS We found that green tea intake was causally associated with the decreased risk of PHypoTP (β = -0.019; 95% confidence interval: -0.038 to -0.001; P = .029). However, there was no significant association between coffee intake and the risk of PHypoTP. No heterogeneity or pleiotropy in these results was detected. CONCLUSIONS Our findings provide the genetic evidence supporting that green tea intake was a protective factor against PHypoTP. Accordingly, we may suggest that patients after thyroidectomy to add green tea into their habitual diet during nursing education.

Abstract
Obesity is coupled with an altered redox state and low-level inflammation. Oxidative stress may increase pre-adipocyte proliferation, adipocyte differentiation and mature adipocyte size. Regarding inflammation, the dysregulation of cytokine production by adipose tissue takes place in obesity, which is promoted by oxidative stress. Polyphenols may exert a positive effect on obesity, not only by modulating the redox state, but also due to their anti-inflammatory activity. Coffee, which is one of the most consumed beverages, is very rich in phenolic compounds. Bioavailability studies on coffee phenols have shown that the most abundant group of metabolites in plasma and urine are dihydrocaffeic (DHCA), dihydroferulic (DHFA), and hydroxyhippuric (HHA) acids, the three acids of colonic origin. To better understand the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of DHCA, DHFA, and HHA, an inflammation/oxidation model was set up in the pre-adipocyte 3T3-L1 cell line using tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). After the exposure of 3T3-L1 cells to 0.5, 1, 5, and 10 µM of TNF-α at different times, the cell viability, interleukin (IL)-6 secretion, and the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and glutathione (GSH) were determined. Using the TNF-α prooxidant and proinflammatory conditions established (10 µM, 24 h), it was observed that the physiological concentrations (0.5, 1, 5, and 10 µM) of DHCA, DHFA, and HHA induced dose-dependent antioxidant effects according to the ROS, GSH, and antioxidant enzyme (glutathione peroxidase) results. In addition, reductions in the IL-1β, IL-6, and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) concentrations were observed to different extents depending on the metabolite (DHFA, HHA, or DHCA) and the concentration used. In conclusion, the main colonic metabolites from coffee chlorogenic acids may counteract TNF-α-induced inflammation and oxidative stress in the 3T3-L1 cell line, and thus, they present antiobesity potential.

Abstract
Metabolic-associated Fatty Liver Disease is one of the outstanding challenges in gastroenterology. The increasing incidence of the disease is undoubtedly connected with the ongoing obesity pandemic. The lack of specific symptoms in the early phases and the grave complications of the disease require an active approach to prompt diagnosis and treatment. Therapeutic lifestyle changes should be introduced in a great majority of patients; but, in many cases, the adherence is not satisfactory. There is a great need for an effective pharmacological therapy for Metabolic-Associated Fatty Liver Disease, especially before the onset of steatohepatitis. Currently, there are no specific recommendations on the selection of drugs to treat liver steatosis and prevent patients from progression toward more advanced stages (steatohepatitis, cirrhosis, and cancer). Therefore, in this Review, we provide data on the clinical efficacy of therapeutic interventions that might improve the course of Metabolic-Associated Fatty Liver Disease. These include the drugs used in the treatment of obesity and hyperlipidemias, as well as affecting the gut microbiota and endocrine system, and other experimental approaches, including functional foods. Finally, we provide advice on the selection of drugs for patients with concomitant Metabolic-Associated Fatty Liver Disease.

Abstract
This literature review aims to explore the data of articles published on the association between coffee, caffeine and atrial fibrillation and to analyze any differences between the two sexes. Several factors influence this complex relationship; genetic, environmental and psychosocial factors come into play in the pathophysiology of atrial fibrillation. These factors are expressed differently in women and men. However, the analysis of the literature has shown that comparison works between the two sexes are extremely rare. Most population-based and prospective studies either analyze aggregated data or focus on exclusively male or female populations. This results in a lack of information that could be useful in the prevention of and treatment approach to atrial fibrillation. It is necessary to deepen this issue with dedicated studies.

Abstract
The incidence of cardiovascular diseases has significantly increased with the expansion of the industrialization of societies, which is notably linked to lifestyle changes and an unhealthy diet. Hence, determining the healthiest diet habits and supplements seems to be an appropriate way to decrease the global burden of cardiovascular diseases. Currently, caffeine, one of the most widely consumed compounds in the world, has emerged with some promising results in the treatment of numerous pathophysiological conditions of cardiovascular diseases. A literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, Google Scholar, and Web of Science databases for the relevant articles regarding the pharmacology, preclinical, and clinical studies on the potential effects of caffeine on cardiovascular diseases. While caffeine could improve cardiovascular outcomes through several mechanisms of action, the literature review revealed controversial clinical effects of caffeine on blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmias, acute coronary syndrome, stable angina, and heart failure. In the case of dyslipidemia, coffee consumption increased total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein. Taken together, the existence of multiple confounding factors in the caffeine studies has resulted in inconclusive data interpretation. Further well-designed studies with adequate control of the confounding factors are warranted to draw a clear conclusion on the cardiovascular efficacy and safety of caffeine.

Abstract
Coffee presents beneficial health properties, including antiobesity effects. However, its effects on inflammation are controversial. Hydroxycinnamic acids are the main coffee phenolic bioactive compounds. In human bioavailability studies carried out with coffee, among the most abundant compounds found in urine and plasma were the colonic metabolites, dihydrocaffeic (DHCA), dihydroferulic (DHFA), and hydroxyhippuric (HHA) acids. To understand the hepato-protective potential of these three compounds, we tested whether treatment with realistic concentrations (0.5-10 µM) were effective to counteract inflammatory process and oxidative status induced by tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α). First, we established a novel model of inflammation/oxidation using TNF-α and HepG2 cells. Afterwards, we evaluated the activity of DHCA, DHFA, and HHA against the inflammatory/oxidative challenge through the determination of the inflammatory mediators, interleukins (IL)-6, and IL-8 and chemokines, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, and macrophage inflammatory protein-1, as well as the levels of biomarkers of oxidative stress, such as reactive oxygen species, reduced glutathione, and the antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase and reductase. Results showed that all three compounds have a potential hepato-protective effect against the induced inflammatory/oxidative insult.

Abstract
This cross-sectional study examines the association between coffee and caffeine consumption and depressive symptoms in postpartum women. In total, 821 postpartum women who met the study's inclusion criteria were interviewed. Data were extracted from the 2007-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Coffee consumption and 11 confounding variables were considered and analyzed as baseline data. Weighted logistic regression models were constructed by adjusting the variables, and the odds ratios of total coffee, caffeinated coffee, and decaffeinated coffee were assessed for their impact on depression status. In addition, subgroup analyses were conducted according to race, breastfeeding status, and postpartum period. The results show that generic coffee and caffeinated coffee intake have a potentially protective effect in postpartum women. Drinking more than three cups of caffeinated coffee may lower the risk of postpartum depression, particularly in the 1-2 year postpartum period and in non-breastfeeding women. The association between decaffeinated coffee consumption and postpartum depression remains unclear.
