Development of ferritic stainless steel sheets with excellent deep drawability by ?111? recrystallization texture control

A virtual laboratory based on full-field crystal plasticity simulation to characterize the multiscale mechanical properties of AHSS

In this work, we proposed a virtual laboratory based on full-field crystal plasticity (CP) simulation to track plastic anisotropy and to calibrate yield functions for multiphase metals. The virtual laboratory, minimally, only requires easily accessible EBSD data for constructing the highly-resolved microstructural representative volume element and macroscopic flow stress data for identifying the micromechanical parameters of constituent phases. An inverse simulation method based on a global optimization scheme was developed to identify the CP parameters, and a nonlinear least-squares method was employed to calibrate yield functions. Mechanical tests of advanced high strength steel sheet under various loading conditions were conducted to validate the virtual laboratory. Three well-known yield functions, the quadratic Hill48 and non-quadratic Yld91 and Yld2004-18p yield functions, were selected as the validation benchmarks. All the studied functions, calibrated by numerous stress points of arbitrary loading conditions, successfully captured both the deformation and strength anisotropies. The full-field CP modeling correlated well the microscopic deformation mechanism and plastic heterogeneity with the macromechanical behavior of the sheet. The proposed virtual laboratory, which is readily extended with physically based CP models, could be a versatile tool to explore and predict the mechanical property and plastic anisotropy of advanced multiphase materials.

Texture Evolution by Strain-Induced Boundary Migration during Hot Deformation of Fe-3.0 wt.% Si Alloy: Experiment and Modeling

Texture and microstructure evolution during high-temperature plane-strain compression in Fe-3.0 wt.% Si alloy has been investigated by micro-texture analysis and modeling. In this study, hot deformation test is performed on the temperature range of 900 °C~1150 °C with a strain rate scope of 0.01 s−1~5 s−1, and the effect of deformation parameters is investigated by means of electron backscattered diffraction. Nucleation and growth assisted by strain-induced boundary migration result in strong {001}<110> and {001}<210> texture components with low Taylor factors, and the grain size of λ fiber increases significantly by consuming the {111}<110> and {111}<112> texture components with high Taylor factors. The critical Taylor factor above which nucleation by strain-induced boundary migration cannot occur, decreases continuously during hot deformation. With the decreasing critical Taylor factor, the increment rate of low-Taylor-factor orientation depends more sensitively on Taylor factor than the decrement rate of high-Taylor-factor orientation. The boundary separating enhanced and weakened orientations moves towards lower Taylor factor with the deformation proceeding, and medium-Taylor-factor texture components may experience a reversed change from enhancement to weakness. A quantitative model is proposed to describe texture development by incorporating the oriented nucleation probability dependent on a variable critical Taylor factor and the selective growth driven by a variable Taylor factor difference between adjacent grains. The present work can provide an efficient method for optimizing hot deformation texture by means of strain-induced boundary migration.

Constitutive Descriptions and Restoration Mechanisms of a Fe-17Cr Alloy during Deformation at Temperatures of 700-1000 °C

The deformation behavior for highly purified Fe-17Cr alloy was investigated at 700~1000 °C and 0.5~10 s⁻¹. The microstructure evolution and corresponding mechanism during deformation were studied in-depth, using electron backscattering diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and precession electron diffraction. During deformation, dynamic recrystallization (DRX) occurred, along with extensive dynamic recovery, and the active DRX mechanism depended on deformation conditions. At higher Zener-Hollomon parameter (Z ≥ 5.93 × 10²⁷ s⁻¹), the development of the shear band was promoted, and then continuous DRX was induced by the formation and intersection shear band. At lower Zener-Hollomon parameter (Z ≤ 3.10 × 10²⁵ s⁻¹), the nucleation of the new grain was attributed to the combination of continuous DRX by uniform increase in misorientation between subgrains and discontinuous DRX by grain boundary bulging, and with increasing temperature, the effect of the former became weaker, whereas the effect of the latter became stronger. The DRX grain size increased with the temperature. For alleviating ridging, it seems advantageous to activate the continuous DRX induced by shear band through hot deformation with higher Z. In addition, the modified Johnson-Cook and Arrhenius-type models by conventional way were developed, and the modified Johnson-Cook model was developed, using the proposed way, by considering strain dependency of the material parameters. The Arrhenius-type model was also modified by using the proposed way, through distinguishing stress levels for acquiring partial parameter and through employing peak stress to determine the activation energy and considering strain dependency of only other parameters for compensating strain. According to our comparative analyses, the modified Arrhenius-type model by the proposed approach, which is suggested to model hot-deformation behavior for metals having only ferrite, could offer a more accurate prediction of flow behavior as compared to other developed models.
