Hierarchical competition models with the Allee effect III: multispecies

Dynamics of an Eco-Epidemic Predator–Prey Model Involving Fractional Derivatives with Power-Law and Mittag–Leffler Kernel

In this paper, we consider a fractional-order eco-epidemic model based on the Rosenzweig–MacArthur predator–prey model. The model is derived by assuming that the prey may be infected by a disease. In order to take the memory effect into account, we apply two fractional differential operators, namely the Caputo fractional derivative (operator with power-law kernel) and the Atangana–Baleanu fractional derivative in the Caputo (ABC) sense (operator with Mittag–Leffler kernel). We take the same order of the fractional derivative in all equations for both senses to maintain the symmetry aspect. The existence and uniqueness of solutions of both eco-epidemic models (i.e., in the Caputo sense and in ABC sense) are established. Both models have the same equilibrium points, namely the trivial (origin) equilibrium point, the extinction of infected prey and predator point, the infected prey free point, the predator-free point and the co-existence point. For a model in the Caputo sense, we also show the non-negativity and boundedness of solution, perform the local and global stability analysis and establish the conditions for the existence of Hopf bifurcation. It is found that the trivial equilibrium point is a saddle point while other equilibrium points are conditionally asymptotically stable. The numerical simulations show that the solutions of the model in the Caputo sense strongly agree with analytical results. Furthermore, it is indicated numerically that the model in the ABC sense has quite similar dynamics as the model in the Caputo sense. The essential difference between the two models is the convergence rate to reach the stable equilibrium point. When a Hopf bifurcation occurs, the bifurcation points and the diameter of the limit cycles of both models are different. Moreover, we also observe a bistability phenomenon which disappears via Hopf bifurcation.

Discrete evolutionary population models: a new approach

In this paper, we apply a new approach to a special class of discrete time evolution models and establish a solid mathematical foundation to analyse them. We propose new single and multi-species evolutionary competition models using the evolutionary game theory that require a more advanced mathematical theory to handle effectively. A key feature of this new approach is to consider the discrete models as non-autonomous difference equations. Using the powerful tools and results developed in our recent work [E. D'Aniello and S. Elaydi, The structure of ω-limit sets of asymptotically non-autonomous discrete dynamical systems, Discr. Contin. Dyn. Series B. 2019 (to appear).], we embed the non-autonomous difference equations in an autonomous discrete dynamical systems in a higher dimension space, which is the product space of the phase space and the space of the functions defining the non-autonomous system. Our current approach applies to two scenarios. In the first scenario, we assume that the trait equations are decoupled from the equations of the populations. This requires specialized biological and ecological assumptions which we clearly state. In the second scenario, we do not assume decoupling, but rather we assume that the dynamics of the trait is known, such as approaching a positive stable equilibrium point which may apply to a much broader evolutionary dynamics.

IPM strategies to a discrete switching predator-prey model induced by a mate-finding Allee effect

This paper proposes a discrete switching predator-prey model with a mate-finding Allee effect, where also switches are guided by Allee effect. One of the strategies analysed is to use a chemical in order to prevent the pest outbreak when the pest population is free of Allee effect. In this paper, we first study analytically the dynamic behaviors of the two subsystems and the equilibria and their stability of the switched system. Then we provide numerical bifurcation analyses for the switched discrete system. These show that the switched discrete system may have very complex dynamics by 2-parameter bifurcation diagrams which divide the space into regions and study equilibria, and 1-dimensional bifurcation diagrams which reveal that the system has periodic, chaotic solutions, period doubling bifurcations and so on. Furthermore, we try to refer the key parameters and initial densities of both populations associated with pest outbreaks and study their biological implications.
