Abstract
(1) Background: Telemedical applications (TAs) that are centered around General practitioners' (GP) practices could be beneficial for patients in rural areas in order to better their access to care. This could become more and more relevant as specialists favor practicing in more urban regions, leaving GPs as the first medical contact of patients in rural areas. (2) Methods: Three TAs, one synchronous, one asynchronous and one used in delegation were implemented and evaluated in ten GP practices and two specialists' practices in rural areas of northern Germany. (3) Results: Overall satisfaction with the TAs was generally high. GPs as well as specialists were especially satisfied with asynchronous TAs. A number of valuable "Lesson learned" were obtained and can be used as recommendations for further studies, e.g., taking time to identify market-ready technologies prior to implementation, developing dedicated trainings for users, and preparation of a technical support plan. Overall, the benefits of the TAs were rated high for the patients by the medical professionals. (4) Conclusion: Especially asynchronous TAs that are based on existing technology can be successfully implemented into a developing digital health care system such as the one in Germany. The impact on treatment of those TAs needs to be further investigated.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to describe the profile of patients who sought a second medical opinion (SMO) on their therapeutic or diagnostic strategy using nationwide data from a French physician network dedicated to SMOs. METHODS An observational cohort study was conducted and the study population consisted of patients residing in France or in the French overseas territories who submitted a request for an SMO through a dedicated platform between January 2016 and October 2020. Patient characteristics were compared between convergent and divergent SMOs. The divergent rate for all patients excluding those with mental diseases were described. Logistic regression was used to estimate the probability of a divergent SMO according to patient characteristics. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION In total, 1,552 adult patients over several French regions were included. The divergence rate was 32.3 % (n = 502 patients). Gynecological [Odds Ratio (OR) and 95 % CI: 5.176 (3.154 to 8.494)], urological [OR 4.246 (2.053 to 8.782)] and respiratory diseases [OR 3.639 (1.357 to 9.758)] had the highest probability of a divergent SMO. Complex cases were also associated with a significantly higher risk of a divergent opinion [OR 2.78 (2.16 to 3.59)]. Age, sex, region and profession were not found to be predictive of a divergent second opinion. CONCLUSIONS Policymakers should encourage new research on patient outcomes such as mortality and hospitalization rates after a SMO. When proven effective, SMO networks will have the potential to benefit from specific public funding or even play a key role in national healthcare quality improvement programs.

Abstract
Background Teledermoscopy (TDS) improves diagnostic accuracy and decreases the number of unnecessary consultations. Objectives To determine the diagnostic concordance in tertiary (dermatologist-to-experts) TDS with histopathology/follow-up-based diagnosis. Methods A descriptive retrospective cohort study including 290 requests. Results Perfect diagnostic concordance was found in 202 (69.7%) cases and partial agreement in 29 (10%). Disagreement was found in 59 (20.3%) cases. Perfect concordance on the benign/malignant nature of the lesion was found in 227 (78.3%) cases and disagreement in 63 (21.7%). In onychology, diagnostic concordance was perfect in 43 (76.8%) cases, partial in 7 (12.5%), and there was disagreement in 6 (10.7%). Final concordance on the benign/malignant nature of the lesion was perfect in 48 (85.7%) and there was disagreement in 8 (14.3%) nail cases. For pediatric requests, diagnostic concordance was perfect in 29 (65.9%) cases, partial in 5 (11.4%), and there was disagreement in 10 (22.7%). Final concordance on the benign/malignant nature of the lesion was observed in 34 (77.3%) cases, disagreement in 10 (22.7%). Conclusions This study confirms that tertiary TDS improves diagnostic accuracy of pigmented skin lesions. Moreover, it shows encouraging results in unusual conditions such as ungual and pediatric skin tumors. The main limitation was the retrospective nature and the "real-life" setting of our study that could have created a selection bias toward inclusion of the most difficult cases.

Abstract
Teledermatology is one of the most important and commonly employed subsets of telemedicine, a special alternative to face-to-face (FTF) doctor--patient consultation that refers to the use of electronic telecommunication tools to facilitate the provision of healthcare between the "seeker" and "provider." It is used for consultation, education, second opinion, and monitoring medical conditions. This article will review basic concepts, the integration of noninvasive imaging technique images, artificial intelligence, and the current ethical and legal issues.

Abstract
Teledermatology is a useful alternative where specialized dermatological assistance is not available and has been used successfully to support health professionals in a wide range of settings worldwide, in either an asynchronous store-and-forward format or a real-time video conferencing format. Teledermoscopy, which includes dermoscopic images in the teleconsultation, is another addition that improves remote assessments of pigmented lesions. A more recent variant is mobile teledermoscopy, which uses a smartphone to deliver the same type of service. Teledermoscopy’s greatest strength may be as a triage and monitoring tool, as it can reduce the number of unnecessary referrals, wait times, and the cost of providing and receiving dermatological care. While face-to-face (FTF) care remains the gold standard for diagnosis, drawbacks of not using FTF care as the primary method can be mitigated if teleconsultants are willing to refer to FTF care whenever there is uncertainty. Teledermatology has generally been well accepted by patients and practitioners alike. Barriers to the large-scale use of teledermatology remain. Assigning medicolegal responsibility and instituting a reimbursement system are critical to promoting widespread use by medical professionals, while privacy and security features and a mechanism to link teleconsultations to patients’ existing health records are essential to maximize patient benefit. Direct-to-consumer services also need attention from regulators to ensure that consumers can enjoy the benefits of telemedicine without the dangers of unregulated or untested platforms.

Abstract
Telemedicine is slowly transforming the way in which healthcare is delivered and has the potential to improve access to subspecialty expertise, reduce healthcare costs, and improve the overall quality of care. While many subspecialty fields within medicine today have either experimented with or begun to implement telemedicine platforms to enable remote consultation and care, dermatology is particularly suited for this care system as skin disorders are uniquely visible to the human eye. Through teledermatology, diagnostic images of skin disorders with accompanying clinical histories can be remotely reviewed by teledermatologists by any number of modalities, such as photographic clinical images or live video teleconferencing. Diagnoses and treatment recommendations can then be rendered and implemented remotely. The evidence to date supports both its diagnostic and treatment accuracy and its cost effectiveness. Administrative, regulatory, privacy, and reimbursement policies surrounding this dynamic field continue to evolve. In this review, we examine the history, evidence, and administrative landscape surrounding teledermatology and discuss current practice guidelines and ongoing controversies.

Abstract
Telemedicine has become an important element of health care in many countries and profited from the technological progress of the last two decades. Due to the visual character of the dermatological specialty, teledermatology in particular participated in that development and is becoming a major tool in dermatological consultation. The objective of this article was to identify the use of teledermatology across the world based on published original articles. A systematic literature search of the MEDLINE and Embase databases for eligible publications (predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria) and a cross-validation search were conducted. Search results were reviewed systematically. The search resulted in 204 publications meeting the inclusion criteria for analysis. The highest number of published studies on teledermatology was performed in the United States, followed by the United Kingdom, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy and Austria. The majority of dermatological indications for telemedical consultations were not specified or included various kinds of skin diseases, followed by skin cancer and wounds. Research questions predominantly focused on concordance, effectiveness and cost-effectiveness to determine the value. Teledermatology proved to be a reliable consultation tool in the majority of studies. If specified, telemedicine was used in daily dermatological routine for patient management purposes, to consult patients in peripheral locations, or for medical support in nursing homes or home care settings. The application of teledermatology worldwide is highest in North American and European countries, while countries with poor geographical distribution of physicians seem to be under-represented in teledermatological use, as concluded from publication output. Regarding indications, comparison with classic consultation and area of application, most studies were of general nature. For precise determination of the value, systematic studies would be needed. However, teledermatology is already accepted as a valid tool.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Telemedicine refers to the use of technology as improvement of healthcare
delivery to places where distance becomes an obstacle. Its use represents a
great potential for dermatology, a specialty whose visual analysis phase is
essential in diagnosis. OBJECTIVES To analyze the compatibility index of skin cancer diagnoses between primary
care and teledermatology, and to validate a protocol for standardization of
digital imaging to obtain the reports in teledermatology. METHODS An observational cross-sectional study developed through the census of 333
examination requests, received between January/2012 and July/2012, in the
Center for Telemedicine and Telehealth of SES-SC. We used a protocol for
photographic lesion standardization, consisting of three steps (panoramic
photo, close-up with ruler and dermoscopy). After collection, the data were
sent to a virtual site on the Internet, and recorded with the use of an
electronic health record containing the images, the skin phototype and
demographic characteristics. RESULTS The level of compatibility between the diagnosis of skin cancer in Santa
Catarina's primary care and the diagnosis proposed by teledermatology was
19.02%. Proportionally, it was 21.21% for BCC, 44.44% for SCC and 6.98% for
MM. The protocol was statistically significant (p <0.05), with an OR of
38.77. CONCLUSION The rate of diagnostic compatibility of skin cancer was low and the use of
the protocol optimized the chance of validating requests for
examination.

Abstract
Telemedicine is the use of telecommunications technology to support health care at a distance. Technological advances have progressively increased the ability of clinicians to care for diverse patient populations in need of skin expertise. Dermatology relies on visual cues that are easily captured by imaging technologies, making it ideally suited for this care model. Moreover, there is a shortage of medical dermatologists in the United States, where skin disorders account for 1 in 8 primary care visits and specialists tend to congregate in urban areas. Even in regions where dermatologic expertise is readily accessible, teledermatology may serve as an alternative that streamlines health care delivery by triaging chief complaints and reducing unnecessary in-person visits. In addition, many patients in the developing world have no access to dermatologic expertise, rendering it possible for teledermatologists to make a significant contribution to patient health outcomes. Teledermatology also affords educational benefits to primary care providers and dermatologists, and enables patients to play a more active role in the health care process by promoting direct communication with dermatologists.

Abstract
In 2008, the Skin Emergency Telemedicine Service was established at the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) in Brisbane. We conducted an audit by evaluating all email communication during 2012, and administering a clinician questionnaire. A total of 167 cases were discussed via 685 email communications (46 being in-house PAH referrals). The highest number of external referrals came from Mt Isa (27%), located 1200 km from the nearest dermatology clinic, with a further 25% sent from centres located 50-600 km from a clinic. The main referring condition was rash (65%), followed by skin lesions (13%). The most commonly provided telemedicine diagnoses were dermatitis/eczema (23%), infection (20%) and drug eruption (17%). Most external referrals received a reply within 3 hours of the enquiry. Junior doctors (2nd-4th postgraduate year) represented the majority of referring clinicians (62% of questionnaire respondents). There were 111 potential questionnaire recipients. Responses were received from 34 clinicians, a response rate of 31%. Overall 100% of respondents stated that the service was useful to them and 97% said they would use it again in the future with one respondent stating 'possibly'. It seems likely that teledermatology will serve an important role in the provision of healthcare to Queensland, and other remote Australian communities in the future.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the applicability of telediagnosis in oral medicine, through the transmission of clinical digital images by e-mail. SUBJECTS AND METHODS The sample included 60 consecutive patients who sought oral medicine services at the Federal University of Paraná, in the state of Paraná, located in southern Brazil. The clinical history and oral lesion images were recorded using clinical electronic charts and a digital camera, respectively, and sent by e-mail to two oral medicine consultants. The consultants provided a maximum of two clinical hypotheses for each case, which were compared with biopsy results that served as the gold standard. RESULTS In 31 of the 60 cases (51.7%), both consultants made the correct diagnosis; in 17 cases (28.3%), only one consultant made the correct diagnosis; and in 12 cases (20%), neither consultant made the correct diagnosis. Therefore, in 80% of cases, at least one consultant provided the correct diagnosis. The agreement between the first consultant and the gold standard was substantial (κ=0.669), and the agreement between the second consultant and the gold standard was fair (κ=0.574). CONCLUSIONS The use of information technology can increase the accuracy of consultations in oral medicine. As expected, the participation of two remote experts increased the possibility of correct diagnosis.

Abstract
Dermatologic surgery and aesthetic dermatology are rapidly emerging and expanding specialties in India. However, dermatologists practicing surgeries and aesthetics in India represent a highly selected group and are mostly confined to metros. Dermatologists in the peripheral and remote regions need to reach these specialists for the benefit of their patients and teledermatology is an invaluable tool for this purpose. Video-conference, store and forward, Satellite communication, Hybrid teledermatology, mobile teledermatology, Integration model, nurse-led teledermatology, teledermatology focusing difficult-to-manage cases, screening and triage services are the various teledermatology services developed to suit the needs of dermatology care from a distance. Types of teledermatology service, pattern of net work connectivity and purpose of dermatology service are the three cardinal parameters for management of the dermatoses from a distance. This article reviews the literature, and analyzes the possible options available for a teledermatosurgery practice.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Access to dermatology and dermatopathology services is scarce in sub-Saharan Africa. Teledermatology provides consultations for healthcare providers in resource-limited settings where specialty medical services are difficult to obtain, and the African Teledermatology Project has helped to bridge the gap in dermatological care in Africa. This program also allows for biopsy specimens to be sent to the USA for processing in cases where the clinical diagnosis is difficult and definitive diagnosis has implications for patient management. This study characterizes conditions diagnosed through clinicopathological correlation in conjunction with photos and tissue submitted to the African Teledermatology Project. MATERIALS AND METHODS Retrospective case review of tissue specimens submitted over three years. RESULTS Fifty-five biopsy specimens met inclusion criteria and represent cases of malignancy (35%), infection (7%), suspected infection (15%), lichenoid tissue reaction (5%), dermatitis (15%), and other various conditions (18%). Three biopsy specimens were non-diagnostic (5%). Clinicopathological concordance between submitting clinician and biopsy results occurred in 32 out of 55 cases (58%). Clinical and pathological diagnoses differed in 21 out of 55 cases (38%). Kaposi sarcoma (KS) represents the clinical diagnosis most often suspected in the evaluated biopsy specimens (42%) and was correctly recognized clinically in 13 out of 23 cases (57%). CONCLUSION Clinical images may not provide sufficient information to definitively diagnose certain infectious and malignant dermatological conditions submitted through telemedicine consultation. Microscopic examination of skin biopsy specimens is an important adjunct for accurate diagnosis of disease and determination of appropriate treatment strategies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Genital warts may mimic a variety of conditions, thus complicating their diagnosis and treatment. The recognition of early flat lesions presents a diagnostic challenge. OBJECTIVE We sought to describe the dermatoscopic features of genital warts, unveiling the possibility of their diagnosis by dermatoscopy. METHODS Dermatoscopic patterns of 61 genital warts from 48 consecutively enrolled male patients were identified with their frequencies being used as main outcome measures. RESULTS The lesions were examined dermatoscopically and further classified according to their dermatoscopic pattern. The most frequent finding was an unspecific pattern, which was found in 15/61 (24.6%) lesions; a fingerlike pattern was observed in 7 (11.5%), a mosaic pattern in 6 (9.8%), and a knoblike pattern in 3 (4.9%) cases. In almost half of the lesions, pattern combinations were seen, of which a fingerlike/knoblike pattern was the most common, observed in 11/61 (18.0%) cases. Among the vascular features, glomerular, hairpin/dotted, and glomerular/dotted vessels were the most frequent finding seen in 22 (36.0%), 15 (24.6%), and 10 (16.4%) of the 61 cases, respectively. In 10 (16.4%) lesions no vessels were detected. Hairpin vessels were more often seen in fingerlike (χ(2) = 39.31, P = .000) and glomerular/dotted vessels in knoblike/mosaic (χ(2) = 9.97, P = .008) pattern zones; vessels were frequently missing in unspecified (χ(2) = 8.54, P = .014) areas. LIMITATIONS Only male patients were examined. CONCLUSIONS There is a correlation between dermatoscopic patterns and vascular features reflecting the life stages of genital warts; dermatoscopy may be useful in the diagnosis of early-stage lesions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Telemedicine is an increasingly suggested answer to the problem of providing high-class medical service to rural and remote areas in a modern society. Dermatology is a promising candidate for telemedical service, because it is well suited for clinical questions forwarded together with photographs. OBJECTIVES To describe the patient population of the Faroe Islands dermatology clinic with respect to distribution of diagnoses, treatment, duration, response time and patient flow. METHODS Case notes were drawn from all dermatology consultations managed during 2003-2009 through the national teledermatology system. These were compared with case notes drawn from the same journal system from the regular outpatient clinic. RESULTS Over the last 7 years, a total of 9161 consultations in 7.7% of the population have been performed. The demography of the patient population reflects the underlying population apart for an over-representation of the female gender in younger years. The disease spectrum is comparable with what has been reported in other outpatient clinics, except for the relative absence of skin cancer and pigmented lesions, for which regular outpatient consultation is reserved. LIMITATIONS The study is descriptive. CONCLUSIONS The experience derived suggests that teledermatology may serve as a near-adequate alternative to a regular private practice, if abstaining from treating minor common skin conditions and purely cosmetic conditions is acceptable.

Abstract
Tertiary teledermatology (TTD), where a general dermatologist consults a specialized dermatologist on difficult cases, is a relatively new telemedicine service. We evaluated TTD in a Dutch university hospital, where 13 general dermatologists used TTD to consult 11 specialized dermatologists and two residents at the university medical centre. We measured the avoided referrals to the university centre, the usability of the system and the user acceptance of it. During a three-month study, general dermatologists consulted via TTD 28 times. In 17 of the consultations (61%), the general dermatologists would have referred their patients to the university centre if teledermatology had not been available. Referral was not necessary after teledermatology for 12 of these 17 consultations (71%). The mean usability score (0–100) of all the users was 80. All dermatologists were satisfied with TTD (mean satisfaction of 7.6 on a 10-point scale) and acceptance was high. The baseline measurements showed that half of tertiary referrals were suitable for TTD. These results suggest that TTD reduces unnecessary physical referrals and that users are satisfied with it. A large-scale evaluation is now required.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Expert non-availability for an instant difficult-to-manage case may limit the online discussion group to provide second-opinion teledermatology for registered dermatologists. Author-based second-opinion teledermatology (AST) is proposed and assessment of authors' response to answer queries and their willingness to participate in teledermatology consultation is analysed. MATERIALS AND METHODS Authors of 292 articles from seven non-open access dermatology and three general medical journals addressing difficult-to-manage cases from June 2007 to December 2008 participated in this online dermatology authors' survey. Authors' response to reprint requests, answer literature queries and willingness to offer second-opinion teledermatology were the main outcome measures. Perceived views were also documented. RESULTS The scores for reprints requests vs. received were (chi(2) = 13.57, n = 292), P = 0.000. The scores for articles read, analysed and literature queries sent vs. authors answered were (chi(2) = 11.09, n = 190), P = 0.001. The scores for authors responded to reprints vs. willing to offer second-opinion teledermatology consultation were (chi(2) = 5.65, n = 190), P = 0.017 and authors responded to reprint requests, answered queries and willing to offer second-opinion (chi(2) = 5.65, n = 190), P = 0.017. CONCLUSION A dermatologist obtains literature, answered queries and constructive suggestions with additional informative material and pools second-opinions from the authors using their e-mail to deliver quality health care. AST is an alternative to online discussion group for second-opinion teledermatology practice in difficult-to-manage cases. Uniform international laws are to be framed to facilitate telemedicine care for a difficult-to-manage case.

Abstract
We examined the feasibility of distance diagnosis of oral diseases, using transmission of digital images by email. Twenty-five cases of oral lesions were documented during a 12-month study in a primary care public health clinic in Paraná in Southern Brazil. Clinical electronic charts and images were produced and sent by email to two oral medicine specialists with a median of 10 years experience in the field. The consultants provided a maximum of two clinical hypotheses for each case. In 15 of the 25 cases (60%) both consultants made a correct diagnosis; in seven cases (28%) only one consultant made a correct diagnosis; and in three cases (12%) neither consultant made a correct diagnosis. Thus in 88% of cases, at least one consultant was able to provide the correct diagnosis. The results suggest that distant diagnosis can be an effective alternative in the diagnosis of oral lesions and that the using two distant consultants improves diagnostic accuracy. Primary care public health clinics may benefit from the use of email and digital cameras for telehealth in remote areas where oral medicine specialists are not available.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Treatment guidelines and strategies are often based on data from randomized controlled trials and observational clinical studies. These sources drive treatment decisions, yet the data they provide may have limited relevance to the wider population in real-world clinical practice due to the narrow selection criteria applied to patients in trials. Information used to inform clinical practice and improve patient outcomes can, therefore, be unreflective of real-world clinical situations. The purpose of this article is to assess the value of Adelphi Disease Specific Programmes (DSPs) as sources of real world data. METHODS DSPs are large, multinational, observational studies of clinical practice for a range of common chronic diseases. Treatment practice data are collected by physicians (n = 700) who are asked to provide information for the next 10 patients consulting for a specific condition. These patients (n = 7000) are also invited to fill out a self-completion form providing their own assessment of symptoms, expectations and quality of life. ANALYSES This article provides examples of the statistical techniques that have been employed to analyse the data in terms of cost/burden of illness, quality of life, disease severity and progression, compliance and adherence to therapy, impact of treatment guidelines and analyses of unmet need. CONCLUSIONS DSPs can support clinical understanding of how diseases are managed including rationale for doctor decision-making and patient attitudes to their condition. Comparisons with other data sources and limitations of the programmes are discussed (including the fact that, unlike claims databases and registries, the DSPs are cross-sectional and not longitudinal).

Abstract
Telemedicine might increase the speed of diagnosis for leprosy and reduce the development of disabilities. We compared the accuracy of diagnosis made by telemedicine with that made by in-person examination. The cases were patients with suspected leprosy at eight public health clinics in outlying areas of the city of São Paulo. The case history and clinical examination data, and at least two clinical images for each patient, were stored in a web-based system developed for teledermatology. After the examination in the public clinic, patients then attended a teaching hospital for an in-person examination. The benchmark was the clinical examination of two dermatologists at the university hospital. From August 2005 to April 2006, 142 suspected cases of leprosy were forwarded to the website by the doctors at the clinics. Of these, 36 cases were excluded. There was overall agreement in the diagnosis of leprosy in 74% of the 106 remaining cases. The sensitivity was 78% and the specificity was 31%. Although the specificity was low, the study suggests that telemedicine may be a useful low-cost method for obtaining second opinions in programmes to control leprosy.

Abstract
Dermatology is perhaps the most visual specialty in medicine, making it ideally suited for modern telemedicine techniques, as has been shown in a number of recent studies investigating feasibility and reliability of teledermatology. It has generally demonstrated high levels of concordance in diagnosis and management plans compared with face-to-face consultations. Teledermatology also has been used for various purposes, including triage, diagnostic and management services, and second-opinion services for primary care practitioners. It has been set up in a number of ways: (1) direct referral for primary care using images and clinical history sent to secondary care dermatology services for second opinion and for triage referrals and (2) facilitating community-based clinics led by nurses or general practitioners. Moreover, in the last years new fields in teledermatology have grown up. Teledermoscopy is a promising area for melanoma screening as well as for the diagnosis and management of equivocal pigmented skin lesions. The feasibility of mobile teledermatology and mobile teledermoscopy recently has been proven, and these new facilities have the potential to become an easy applicable tool for everyone and may open the door for a new flexible triage system for detection of skin cancer in general and melanoma in particular. The implementation of virtual slide systems for teledermatopathology has allowed avoiding the limitations imposed by conventional microphotography. Finally, web consultations in dermatology are a rather new tool that became available in the last years and teledermatologic services through the Internet offer many possibilities, including continuing medical education, on-line atlases and databases, and specific web application suited for teledermatology (ie, www.telederm.org).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This paper describes the Web-based decision support system (TELEDERM) that provides medical services to rural and remote general practitioners (GPs), and presents qualitative results on the usefulness and usability of the system obtained from trials in the GoldFields, Western Australia. METHODS Diagnostic methods and other functions were developed to assist medical practitioners, who may not be familiar with aspects of decision support systems, to diagnose patients with dermatological problems. GPs in rural and remote areas took part in a trial to assess the usefulness of TELEDERM in clinical situations. In evaluating and assessing a number of the system's characteristics, questionnaires, seminars and interviews were used. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS Feedback concerning the usefulness of TELEDERM shows that 67% of the GPs found the system useful or very useful, and 25% found the system somewhat useful. In terms of its usability, 83% found the system easy to use. The responses concerning the user interface and interactivity of TELEDERM are encouraging as 92% of the GPs found the text easy to read, 84% were happy with the appearance of the interface, and 84% found the system easy to navigate. 89% indicated that they are likely to use the system again. An issue with such systems is the reluctance of GPs to use them, even given that the development was quite sensitive to the needs of the GPs and the consultants, e.g. by streamlining the query process and emphasising that the system is a support tool and not a replacement.

Abstract
"Telemedicine" is defined as the use of telecommunication technologies for the exchange of medical information across distances. Applications include patient management as well as research and education. Teledermatology is a steadily growing category of telemedicine. This article presents general aspects of telemedicine, such as modes of data transmission, and practical applications with a special emphasis on their significance for teledermatology.

Abstract
Clinicopathologic correlation is the basis of a precise diagnosis. Especially in dermatopathology, the precision of a microscopic diagnosis may significantly be increased by thorough knowledge of the clinical picture. The advent of digital photography, the internet and moderately priced CDs and USB-sticks have made it possible to establish and maintain a time-saving, low-cost picture data transfer between dermatologist and dermatopathologist which is optimally suited for clinicopathologic correlation.
