Stable Inner 2H Tautomer of N-Confused-like Porphyrin Embedded with a Carbazole Subunit: Synthesis, Metal Coordination, and Magnetic and Anion Sensing Studies

A new class of N-confused porphyrin 1 embedded with a carbazole subunit was prepared via [3 + 1] acid-catalyzed condensation of appropriate precursors. 1 underwent smooth metal complexation with Pd(II) and Cu(II) salts to provide the corresponding diamagnetic 1-Pd and paramagnetic 1-Cu, respectively. The single-crystal X-ray structure of 1-Pd is evident with a square-planar Pd-center through C-H activation of inverted pyrrole. Superconducting quantum interference device analysis combined with electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) results provided insights into the paramagnetic nature of 1-Cu. Further, a ratiometric enhancement of near-IR fluorescence at 746 nm was found to be reversible upon adding CN- and F- ions. The solid-state structure of 1-Pd confirms that the anionic species is due to NH deprotonation.

Rational design of an artificial hydrolytic nuclease by introduction of a sodium copper chlorophyllin in L29E myoglobin

Heme proteins have recently emerged as promising artificial metalloenzymes for catalyzing diverse reactions. In this report, L29E Mb, a single mutant of myoglobin (Mb), was reconstituted by replacing the heme with a sodium copper cholorophyllin (CuCP) to form a new green artificial enzyme (named CuCP-L29E Mb). The reconstituted protein CuCP-L29E Mb was found to exhibit hydrolytic DNA cleavage activity, which was not depending on O₂. In addition, Mg²⁺ ion could effectively promote the DNA cleavage activity of CuCP-L29E Mb. Wild-type (WT) Mb reconstituted with CuCP (named CuCP-WT Mb) did not show DNA cleavage activity under the same conditions. This study suggests that both Mg²⁺ and the ligand Glu29 are critical for the nuclease activity and the artificial nuclease of Mg²⁺-CuCP-L29E Mb may have potential applications in the future.

Synthesis and electrochemistry of nickel(II)porphyrins bearing external palladium(II) or platinum(II) complexes

The syntheses of nickel(II)porphyrins bearing palladium(II) or platinum(II) complexes at their periphery were performed. These new compounds were characterized by standard spectroscopic techniques and studied by electrochemistry. The electrochemical data were then compared with previously published data of porphyrin dimers linked by metal ions like palladium(II) or platinum(II). An X-ray structure of one of these species was obtained and confirmed the structure of this series of compounds.
