Abstract
The role of minerals in female fertility, particularly in relation to the menstrual cycle, presents a complex area of study that underscores the interplay between nutrition and reproductive health. This narrative review aims to elucidate the impacts of minerals on key aspects of the reproductive system: hormonal regulation, ovarian function and ovulation, endometrial health, and oxidative stress. Despite the attention given to specific micronutrients in relation to reproductive disorders, there is a noticeable absence of a comprehensive review focusing on the impact of minerals throughout the menstrual cycle on female fertility. This narrative review aims to address this gap by examining the influence of minerals on reproductive health. Each mineral's contribution is explored in detail to provide a clearer picture of its importance in supporting female fertility. This comprehensive analysis not only enhances our knowledge of reproductive health but also offers clinicians valuable insights into potential therapeutic strategies and the recommended intake of minerals to promote female reproductive well-being, considering the menstrual cycle. This review stands as the first to offer such a detailed examination of minerals in the context of the menstrual cycle, aiming to elevate the understanding of their critical role in female fertility and reproductive health.

Abstract
Iron is an essential trace element for organisms. However, iron overload, which is common in haematological disorders (e.g. haemochromatosis, myelodysplastic syndromes, aplastic anaemia, and thalassaemia, blood transfusion-dependent or not), can promote reactive oxygen species generation and induce ferroptosis, a novel form of programmed cell death characterised by excess iron and lipid peroxidation, thus causing cell and tissue damage. Infertility is a global health concern. Recent evidence has indicated the emerging role of iron overload and ferroptosis in female infertility by inducing hypogonadism, causing ovary dysfunction, impairing preimplantation embryos, attenuating endometrial receptivity, and crosstalk between subfertility-related disorders, such as polycystic ovary syndrome and endometriosis. In addition, gut microbiota and their metabolites are involved in iron metabolism, ferroptosis, and female infertility. In this review, we systematically elaborate on the current research progress in female infertility with a novel focus on iron overload and ferroptosis and summarise promising therapies targeting iron overload and ferroptosis to recover fertility in women. In summary, our study provides new insights into female infertility and offers literature references for the clinical management of female infertility associated with iron overload and ferroptosis, which may be beneficial for females with haematopoietic disorders suffering from both iron overload and infertility.

Abstract
PURPOSE Functional hypothalamic amenorrhea (FHA) is due to hypothalamic dysregulation. Literature lacks data about prolactin in FHA women, although both prolactin levels and FHA are associated with stress. Moreover, polycystic ovarian morphology is common in FHA and there is an association between FHA and polycystic ovary syndrome. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess prolactin levels in FHA patients and controls with a special focus on factors influencing prolactin levels, that could be considered as "sensors" of the hypothalamic-pituitary dysregulation. METHODS In a retrospective cohort study, 140 women with clearly defined FHA were compared to 70 healthy, normally ovulating women matched for age. The main outcome parameter was prolactin. Factors associated with prolactin levels > 12 µg/L were tested using a multivariable binary logistic regression model. RESULTS The median prolactin level was 11.5 µg/L (interquartile range, IQR 7.5-14.4), which was similar to the control group (median 10.7, IQR 8.3-14.5; p = 0.065). Only two women had hyperprolactinemia (prolactin > 25 µg/L; 1.4%). In a multivariable binary logistic regression model eating disorder (odds ratio, OR 0.206; p = 0.040), excessive exercise (OR 0.280; p = 0.031) and TSH (OR 1.923; p = 0.020) were significantly associated with prolactin levels > 12 µg/L. CONCLUSION Women with FHA have similar prolactin levels to healthy age-matched individuals. Eating disorders and excessive exercise where associated with prolactin levels < 12 µg/L, in contrast to TSH.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study was designed to investigate the association between nutrients and female infertility. METHODS A cross-sectional study on 18-45 years of age reproductive-age women was conducted using the data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) for the periods 2013-2014 and 2015-2016. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the association between nutrients and female infertility. Subgroup analysis was applied to the body mass index (BMI). Results were summarised using an odds ratio (OR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS Of the total 1713 women, 204 women (11.91%) were infertile. The result demonstrated that higher intake of carbohydrate (OR: 0.46, 95% CI: 0.24-0.86, p = 0.018), vitamin A (OR: 0.44, 95% CI: 0.24-0.80, p = 0.009), vitamin C (OR: 0.48, 95% CI: 0.26-0.88, p = 0.020), magnesium (OR: 0.36, 95% CI: 0.17-0.76, p = 0.009), iron (OR: 0.43, 95% CI: 0.23-0.82, p = 0.012), lycopene (OR: 0.55, 95% CI: 0.33-0.91, p = 0.022), and total folate (OR: 0.38, 95% CI: 0.20-0.70, p = 0.003) were associated with a lower risk of female infertility. The subgroup analysis also reported that intakes of vitamin A, vitamin C, and lycopene were related to a lower risk of female infertility among women with a BMI being 18.5-24.9 kg/m2. Among women with BMI > 24.9 kg/m2, high intakes of magnesium, iron and total folate were associated with a decreased risk of female infertility. CONCLUSIONS The intake of several nutrients is associated with a decreased risk of female infertility. These findings provide insight into potentially modifiable lifestyle factors associated with female infertility.
