Abstract
Background and Objectives: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent chronic condition that has been associated with mental disorders like depression and anxiety. This study intends to provide a practical overview of the most relevant self-reported and self-rating scales that assess depression and anxiety in OSA patients. Materials and Methods: A search for articles was performed using PubMed, Google Scholar, and Semantic Scholar using a combination of words for obstructive sleep apnea, depression, anxiety, and scales. The tools were ordered by type (screening and rating) and arranged chronologically according to the year of publication. Results: Three scales were identified for assessing depression, which were the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS-D), and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). For rating depression, two scales were discussed: the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), which has three versions (the BDI, the BDI-II, and the Fast Screen (BDI-FS)). For assessing anxiety, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) scale was identified. Two scales were reviewed for rating anxiety: the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Each scale is accompanied by a brief description of its practicality and psychometric qualities and an analysis of its strengths and limitations. Conclusions: The findings of this review will contribute to the understanding of the importance of assessing mental health comorbidities in the context of OSA, ultimately guiding clinical practice and future research in this area.

Abstract
Background Limited information is available on the active process of seeking medical help in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) at early stages. The aim of this study was to assess the phenomenon of medical help-seeking in early AD and to identify associated factors. Methods A multicenter, non-interventional study was conducted including patients of 50-90 years of age with prodromal or mild AD (National Institute on Aging/Alzheimer's Association criteria), a Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score ≥ 22, and a Clinical Dementia Rating-Global score (CDR-GS) of 0.5-1.0. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted. Results A total of 149 patients were included. Mean age (SD) was 72.3 (7.0) years, 50.3% were female, and 87.2% had a CDR-GS score of 0.5. Mean disease duration was 1.4 (1.8) years. Ninety-four (63.1%) patients sought medical help, mostly from neurologists. Patients with help-seeking intentions were mostly female (60.6%) with a CDR-GS score of 0.5 (91.5%) and had a greater awareness of diagnosis, poorer quality of life, more depressive symptoms, and a more severe perception of their condition than their counterparts. Lack of help-seeking intentions was associated with male sex (p = 0.003), fewer years of education (p = 0.005), a low awareness of diagnosis (p = 0.005), and a low emotional consequence of the condition (p = 0.016). Conclusion Understanding the phenomenon of active medical help-seeking may facilitate the design of specific strategies to improve the detection of cognitive impairment, especially in patients with a lower level of educational attainment and poor awareness of their condition.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The primary aim of this study was to assess the degree to which discrepancies between self-reported and actigraphy-based measures of sleep are associated with specific demographic, disease characteristics, and clinical features in a sample of individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS) reporting clinically significant insomnia symptoms. METHODS Participants were 90 community-based participants with MS and insomnia. Measures included the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Beck Depression Inventory-Fast Screen (BDI-FS), Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (MFIS), and MS Neuropsychological Screening Questionnaire (MSNQ), and wrist actigraphy-derived sleep parameters. Discrepancy scores were calculated by subtracting actigraphy-derived values from PSQI-derived values for sleep latency (SL), total sleep time (TST), and sleep efficiency (SE). RESULTS Correlations between PSQI and actigraphy-derived values were weak. Significant discrepancies, with moderate-to-large effect sizes, were observed between PSQI and actigraphy for SL, TST, and SE, whereby the PSQI yielded longer SL, shorter TST, and less SE than actigraphy. MSNQ elevations correlated with greater PSQI-actigraphy discrepancies in SL and TST. MFIS elevations correlated with greater discrepancies in TST. Discrepancies were not significantly related to BDI-FS, gender, race, education level, or MS type. CONCLUSIONS Results emphasize the importance of assessing fatigue with sleep, and when feasible, inclusion of both self-report and actigraphy measures.

Abstract
So far, deep repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (drTMS) has shown promising results as an add-on treatment for Parkinson's disease (PD) but not for non-idiopathic Parkinson Syndromes (PS). We aimed to investigate the safety and feasibility of drTMS application in patients with different Parkinson Syndromes and medical refractory symptoms. Multifaceted real-world data (n = 21) were retrospectively analyzed regarding adverse effects as well as short-term effects of the drTMS treatment on patients' self-rated symptom severity and motor, cognitive, and emotional functions. The drTMS treatment with H5 coil included a sequential 1 Hz primary motor cortex stimulation contralateral to the more-affected body side and a bilateral 10 Hz stimulation of the prefrontal cortex. Overall, drTMS could be safely administered to patients with different PSs and medical refractory symptoms, but large variation was apparent in the rate and severity ratings of the reported adverse event/adverse device effect. The treatment significantly decreased the subjective main symptom severity. This effect was more pronounced in older patients with PD. Furthermore, analysis showed an improvement in depression, but no effect could be established in terms of cognitive performance. drTMS can be safely administered to patients with PS and medical refractory symptoms and can decrease the subjective motor symptom severity and depression.

Abstract
Background: There is a need to better understand the experience of patients living with Alzheimer's disease (AD) in the early stages. Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the perception of quality of life in patients with early-stage AD. Methods: A multicenter, non-interventional study was conducted including patients of 50–90 years of age with prodromal or mild AD, a Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score ≥22, and a Clinical Dementia Rating-Global score (CDR-GS) of 0.5.–1.0. The Quality of Life in Alzheimer ’s Disease (QoL-AD) questionnaire was used to assess health-related quality of life. A battery of self-report instruments was used to evaluate different psychological and behavioral domains. Associations between the QoL-AD and other outcome measures were analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlations. Results: A total of 149 patients were included. Mean age (SD) was 72.3 (7.0) years and mean disease duration was 1.4 (1.8) years. Mean MMSE score was 24.6 (2.1). The mean QoL-AD score was 37.9 (4.5). Eighty-three percent (n = 124) of patients had moderate-to-severe hopelessness, 22.1% (n = 33) had depressive symptoms, and 36.9% (n = 55) felt stigmatized. The quality of life showed a significant positive correlation with self-efficacy and negative correlations with depression, emotional and practical consequences, stigma, and hopelessness. Conclusion: Stigma, depressive symptoms, and hopelessness are frequent scenarios in AD negatively impacting quality of life, even in a population with short disease duration and minimal cognitive impairment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To measure symptoms of anxiety, depression and hopelessness in a sample of young Pacific adults living in Auckland, New Zealand during the 2020/2021 COVID-19 pandemic and identify protective factors. METHODS Participants were 267 Pacific adults (58% female) who completed a survey online. Analyses included descriptive statistics, correlations, linear regression and symptom network analysis. RESULTS Around 25% of the sample scored in the range for moderate to severe anxiety and 10% for moderate to severe depression on standard measures. Almost 40% indicated that they found the first lockdown very stressful and 55% noted that some members of their family found it stressful. Only 16% worried about COVID-19 and their future quite a bit or constantly, while another 25% worried sometimes. Self-compassion and Pacific Identity had moderate, negative correlations, and Worry about COVID-19 had weak positive correlations, with anxiety, depression, hopelessness and perceived stress. CONCLUSION These results suggest that, while the prevalence of depression and anxiety are quite high among this population, fostering ethnic identity and self-compassion in Pacific children and adolescents might protect against developing depression and anxiety.

Abstract
Introduction Limited information is available on people’s experiences of living with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) at earlier stages. This study assessed awareness of diagnosis among people with early-stage AD and its impact on different person-centered outcome measures. Methods We conducted an observational, cross-sectional study in 21 memory clinics in Spain. Persons aged 50–90 years, diagnosed with prodromal or mild AD (NIA/AA criteria), a Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) score ≥ 22, and a Clinical Dementia Rating-Global score (CDR-GS) of 0.5 or 1.0 were recruited. The Representations and Adjustment to Dementia Index (RADIX) was used to assess participants’ beliefs about their condition and its consequences. Results A total of 149 persons with early-stage AD were studied. Mean (SD) age was 72.3 (7.0) years and 50.3% were female. Mean duration of AD was 1.4 (1.8) years. Mean MMSE score was 24.6 (2.1) and 87.2% had a CDR-GS score of 0.5. Most participants (n = 84, 57.5%) used a descriptive term related to specific AD symptoms (e.g., memory difficulties) when asked what they called their condition. Participants aware of their diagnosis using the term AD (n = 66, 45.2%) were younger, had more depressive symptoms, and poorer life satisfaction and quality of life compared to those without awareness of their specific diagnosis. Practical and emotional consequences RADIX scores showed a significant negative correlation with Quality of Life in Alzheimer’s Disease score (rho = − 0.389 and − 0.413, respectively; p < 0.0001). Years of education was the only predictor of awareness of AD diagnosis [OR = 1.04 (95% CI 1.00–1.08); p = 0.029]. Conclusions Awareness of diagnosis was a common phenomenon in persons with early-stage AD negatively impacting their quality of life. Understanding illness representations in earlier stages may facilitate implementing optimized care that supports improved quality of life and well-being.

Abstract
Depression and anxiety are common neuropsychiatric symptom of Parkinson's disease (PD), reflecting reduced quality of life in patients with PD. Silibinin (silybin), a flavonoid extracted and isolated from the fruit of Silybum marianum (L.) Gaertn, is widely used for the treatment of hepatic diseases. We report here that silibinin shows anti-depressant and anti-anxiety effects on 1-Methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced model mice with PD. All the results of open field test, elevated plus maze test, tail suspension test and forced swimming test demonstrated that silibinin administration significantly attenuated MPTP-induced depression/anxiety. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and Nissl staining results showed that MPTP injection caused the damage of hippocampal neurons, but this was ameliorated by oral administration of silibinin. Silibinin significantly restored hippocampal levels of 5-hydroxyptramine (5-HT) and noradrenaline (NA), two important neurotransmitters for regulating mood, which decreased in MPTP-injected mice. Neuroinflammation, as reflected by the increased expressions of IL-1β, TNFα and IFN-β, was marked in the hippocampus of MPTP-treated mice, accompanying increased stimulator of interferon genes (STING) and interferon regulatory factor-3 (IRF3). Silibinin administration, however, down-regulated the levels of IL-1β, TNFα and IFN-β, as well as STING and IRF3, protecting MPTP-induced PD model mice. These findings indicate that silibinin has a potential of being further developed as a therapeutic for depression and anxiety in PD.
