Abstract
AIMS The study aimed to evaluate the effects of dietary folic acid (FA) on the production performance of laying hens, egg quality, and the nutritional differences between eggs fortified with FA and ordinary eggs. METHODS A total of 288 26-week-old Hy-Line Brown laying hens (initial body weights 1.65 ± 0.10 kg) with a similar weight and genetic background were used. A completely randomized design divided the birds into a control group and three treatment groups. Each group consisted of six replicates, with twelve chickens per replicate. Initially, all birds were fed a basal diet for 1 week. Subsequently, they were fed a basal diet supplemented with 0, 5, 10, or 15 mg/kg FA in a premix for a duration of 6 weeks. RESULTS Supplementation of FA could significantly (p < 0.05) enhance the FA content in egg yolks, particularly when 10 mg/kg was used, as it had the most effective enrichment effect. Compared to the control group, the Glu content in the 10 and 15 mg/kg FA groups showed a significant (p < 0.05) decrease. Additionally, the contents of Asp, Ile, Tyr, Phe, Cys, and Met in the 15 mg/kg FA group were significantly (p < 0.05) lower compared to the other groups. Adding FA did not have significant effects on the levels of vitamin A and vitamin E in egg yolk, but the vitamin D content in the 5 and 10 mg/kg FA groups showed a significant (p < 0.05) increase. Furthermore, the addition of FA did not have a significant effect on the levels of Cu, Fe, Mn, Se, and Zn in egg yolk. The dietary FA did not have a significant effect on the total saturated fatty acids (SFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) content in egg yolk. However, the total monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) content in the 5 and 10 mg/kg groups significantly (p < 0.05) increased. These changes in nutritional content might be attributed to the increased very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) protein content. The significant decrease in solute carrier family 1 Member 1 (SLC1A1), solute carrier family 1 Member 2 (SLC1A2), and solute carrier family 1 Member 3 (SLC1A3) gene expression compared to the control group appeared to be the reason for the decrease in amino acid content in egg yolk within the dietary FA group. CONCLUSION The findings suggest that the appropriate addition of FA can enhance the levels of MUFA and vitamin D in egg yolks, thereby improving their nutritional value. Excessive intake of FA can decrease the effectiveness of enriching FA in egg yolk and impact the enrichment of certain amino acids. The yolk of eggs produced by adding 10 mg/kg of FA to the feed contains the optimal amount of nutrients. This study informs consumers purchasing FA-fortified eggs.

Abstract
This experiment was carried out to investigate the histological changes of liver and testis of Japanese quail fed different levels of dietary valine (Val) in low protein diet. A total of 1000 one-day-old Japanese quail chicks (mixed sex) were assigned to five experimental diets including diets containing 7.5, 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 and 11.5 g digestible (dig.) Val/kg diet in a completely randomized design, with 5 replicates of 40 quail chicks per pen. Experimental diets were formulated to be isoenergetic and isonitrogenous (170 g crude protein/kg) to meet nutrients recommendation of growing quails suggested by Brazilian tables. At d 42, quail chicks were slaughtered, and tissue samples were collected and fixed to evaluate the histological indices of liver and testis. High levels of Val, increased (P < 0.05) diameter of liver cell nucleus and liver hepatocytes in both male and female. While 11.5 g Val showed mild hepatosteatosis, bile duct hyperplasia was observed in 10.5 g Val. In 7.5 and 8.5 g Val groups, there was no negative effects on the liver histology. The male quail chicks which fed on diets containing 8.5 g Val had better significant (P < 0.05) reproductive indexes [Tubular differentiation (TDI) and spermatic index (SI)]. In conclusion, the use of high levels of Val (≥ 9.5 g dig. Val/kg diet) during d 0 - 42 of age can lead to histological damage in liver and testis of quail chicks.

Abstract
This research was conducted to determine the effect of increasing dietary valine level on performance parameters, egg quality criteria, and blood and serum components. In the study, 120 female Japanese quails at the age of 10 weeks (241.4 ± 8.6 g) did randomly allocate to six experimental groups contained five subgroups. Treatment diets were prepared to contain 0.93% (control), 1.00%, 1.10%, 1.20%, 1.30%, or 1.40% valine. The egg mass decreased linearly with the increasing level of valine in the diet, while egg weight decreased in both linear and quadratic manner (P < 0.05). Increased levels of dietary valine increased eggshell breaking strength in cubic manner (P < 0.05). The administration of the valine to the diet caused a linear decrease in the albumin index and Haugh unit (P < 0.05). Other egg quality parameters were not affected (P > 0.05). Serum glucose and triglyceride concentrations of laying quails were reduced by the increasing dietary valine levels; the effect on serum glucose was linear, while both linear and quadratic effects were significant on triglyceride concentration (P < 0.05). White blood cell, lymphocyte, and neutrophil counts increased with the increasing dietary levels of valine (P < 0.05). Both linear and quadratic effects were significant on white blood cells and lymphocytes, while the effect on neutrophil counts was linear. However, erythrocyte and haematocrit (P < 0.05) decreased quadratically with increment in the dietary levels of valine. In conclusion, the increased valine levels in the diet adversely affected the egg weight, egg mass, and Haugh unit. but it reduced the serum triglyceride and glucose. Results may suggest that dietary valine at 0.93% level is sufficient for egg production and egg quality in laying quails, but positive effects of increased dietary valine levels on white blood cells may worth to investigate further.

Abstract
L-Valine is one of the nine amino acids that cannot be synthesized de novo by higher organisms and must come from food. This amino acid not only serves as a building block for proteins, but also regulates protein and energy metabolism and participates in neurotransmission. L-Valine is used in the food and pharmaceutical industries, medicine and cosmetics, but primarily as an animal feed additive. Adding L-valine to feed, alone or mixed with other essential amino acids, allows for feeds with lower crude protein content, increases the quality and quantity of pig meat and broiler chicken meat, as well as improves reproductive functions of farm animals. Despite the fact that the market for L-valine is constantly growing, this amino acid is not yet produced in our country. In modern conditions, the creation of strains-producers and organization of L-valine production are especially relevant for Russia. One of the basic microorganisms most commonly used for the creation of amino acid producers, along with Escherichia coli, is the soil bacterium Corynebacterium glutamicum. This review is devoted to the analysis of the main strategies for the development of L- valine producers based on C. glutamicum. Various aspects of L-valine biosynthesis in C. glutamicum are reviewed: process biochemistry, stoichiometry and regulation, enzymes and their corresponding genes, export and import systems, and the relationship of L-valine biosynthesis with central cell metabolism. Key genetic elements for the creation of C. glutamicum-based strains-producers are identified. The use of metabolic engineering to enhance L-valine biosynthesis reactions and to reduce the formation of byproducts is described. The prospects for improving strains in terms of their productivity and technological characteristics are shown. The information presented in the review can be used in the production of producers of other amino acids with a branched side chain, namely L-leucine and L-isoleucine, as well as D-pantothenate.

Abstract
Periodic processes of gene network functioning are described with good precision by periodic trajectories (limit cycles) of multidimensional systems of kinetic-type differential equations. In the literature, such systems are often called dynamical, they are composed according to schemes of positive and negative feedback between components of these networks. The variables in these equations describe concentrations of these components as functions of time. In the preparation of numerical experiments with such mathematical models, it is useful to start with studies of qualitative behavior of ensembles of trajectories of the corresponding dynamical systems, in particular, to estimate the highest likelihood domain of the initial data, to solve inverse problems of parameter identification, to list the equilibrium points and their characteristics, to localize cycles in the phase portraits, to construct stratification of the phase portraits to subdomains with different qualities of trajectory behavior, etc. Such an à priori geometric analysis of the dynamical systems is quite analogous to the basic section "Investigation of functions and plot of their graphs" of Calculus, where the methods of qualitative studies of shapes of curves determined by equations are exposed. In the present paper, we construct ensembles of trajectories in phase portraits of some dynamical systems. These ensembles are 2-dimensional surfaces invariant with respect to shifts along the trajectories. This is analogous to classical construction in analytic mechanics, i. e. the level surfaces of motion integrals (energy, kinetic moment, etc.). Such surfaces compose foliations in phase portraits of dynamical systems of Hamiltonian mechanics. In contrast with this classical mechanical case, the foliations considered in this paper have singularities: all their leaves have a non-empty intersection, they contain limit cycles on their boundaries. Description of the phase portraits of these systems at the level of their stratifications, and that of ensembles of trajectories allows one to construct more realistic gene network models on the basis of methods of statistical physics and the theory of stochastic differential equations.

Abstract
IntroductionThis study aimed to investigate the effects of organic trace elements chelated with hydroxy methionine (OTE-HM) in diets, which substituted inorganic trace elements, on laying performance, egg quality, blood microelement content, antioxidant capacity and immune function of laying ducks.MethodsA total of 300 healthy laying ducks at age of 30 wk were randomly divided into 5 treatments and 10 ducks per replicate. The treatments included a control group (CON) which was served with basal diet supplemented with 20 mg/kg Cu, 50 mg/kg Fe, 70 mg/kg Mn, and 70 mg/kg Zn in inorganic form, and 4 OTE-HM treated groups (OTE-HM25, OTE-HM50, OTE-HM75, OTE-HM100) which were served with basal diets supplemented with OTE-HM providing trace elements (combination of Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn) at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of the commercial levels, respectively.ResultsResults showed that substitution of inorganic trace elements with OTE-HM did not affect egg production, qualified egg rate, average egg weight, average daily egg mass, average daily feed intake, or feed per kg egg of laying ducks (P > 0.05). Dietary with OTE-HM did not influence eggshell strength, eggshell thickness, egg shape index, eggshell ratio, yolk ratio, albumen ratio, albumen height, and Haugh unit of the sampled eggs of ducks (P > 0.05), but increased the yolk color, compared with dietary with inorganic trace elements (P< 0.01). Moreover, the blood content of Cu of the laying ducks was significantly increased by OTE-HM compared with that in CON (P< 0.001), but the other elements in laying duck blood were not different among treatments (P > 0.05). OTE-HM (75% and 100%) significantly increased serum activities of glutathione peroxidase and Cu-Zn superoxide dismutase, and decreased serum content of malonaldehyde of laying ducks compared with those in CON (P< 0.05). OTE-HM (50%, 75%, and 100%) significantly increased the serum contents of immunoglobulin G and immunoglobulin A of laying ducks compared with those in CON (P< 0.05).DiscussionCollectively, replacing inorganic trace elements with 50% and 75% OTE-HM in diets did not influence the laying performance or egg quality, but improved trace element efficacy, antioxidant capacity and immune function of the laying ducks.

Abstract
To study the effects of melittin on egg-laying performance and intestinal barrier of quails, 240 quails (aged 70 d) were randomly divided into 4 groups with 6 replicates (10 quails per replicate). They were fed with basal diet (group B), basal diet + 0.08 g/kg melittin (group BA1), basal diet + 0.12 g/kg melittin (group BA2) and basal diet + 0.16 g/kg melittin (group BA3). The experiment lasted for 21 days. The eggs were collected every day. At the end of the experiment, duodenal, jejunal, and ileal tissues were collected, and the cecal contents were sampled. Intestinal antioxidant index, barrier function, and intestinal flora were analyzed. The results showed that the addition of melittin significantly increased the laying rate and average egg weight. Addition of melittin significantly increased the antioxidant function, mechanical barrier, immune barrier, and the villus height to crypt depth ratio of small intestine. Addition of melittin had no significant effect on the α and β diversity of cecal flora, but significantly increased the abundance of Bacteroidales at family level and genus level. Bioinformatics analysis of cecal content showed significant increase in COG functional category of cytoskeleton, and significant decrease in RNA processing and modification in group BA2. KEGG functional analysis showed significant decrease in steroid biosynthesis, caffeine metabolism, and cytochrome P450 pathways in group BA2. In conclusion, addition of 0.12 g/kg melittin to feed improved the laying performance and the intestinal antioxidant capacity and barrier function of quails but had no significant effect on the composition and structure of cecal microbial community. This study provides experimental data and theoretical basis for the application of melittin as a new quail feed additive.

Abstract
In a previous study with LSL-LITE layers (-23 to 30-week-old), isoleucine at 0.72% and 0.84% produced values for FCR at 1.45 and 1.44, respectively and shared significance with 0.78% isoleucine (1.49). Considering that FCR is an important standard in the poultry industry due to the cost for adding feed ingredients such as synthetic amino acids and the low FCR of 1.45, 0.72% isoleucine was chosen for further study with LSL-LITE layers (n = 490 at 33- to 40-week-old) to determine effects on production and egg quality. The study included 7 diets (2730 Kcal kg metabolizable energy and constant isoleucine at 0.72%) containing varying quantities of valine [0.72 (Control), 0.75, 0.78, 0.81, 0.84, 0.87 or 0.90%] x 7 replicates x 10 hens/replicate. Significance at P ≤ 0.05 and P < 0.10 was determined. Level and week were significant for feed intake, egg production, and FCR; the interaction of level x week (L*W) was significant for feed intake and FCR. An isoleucine:valine of 1.233 corresponding to 0.72% isoleucine and 0.87% valine produced the lowest FCR of 1.30 (a 2.26% decrease compared to the Control at 1.33 ± 0.04). All measurements for external egg quality, except shape index and eggshell thickness, were significant for level. Week was significant for all parameters except shell thickness; L*W was significant for external quality measurements except shape index and shell thickness. Level, week, and L*W were significant for internal egg quality measurements. Serum protein and H1 titer were significant for level. Various production, egg quality, and biochemical measurements were significantly different from the control (0.72% isoleucine and 0.72% valine) at 0.81 to 0.87% valine. Findings of this study will aid researchers and commercial producers in narrowing the range of isoleucine, valine, and leucine needed for effects on particular parameters. Knowledge gained from this and others studies will eventually lead to an understanding of synergistic and antagonistic effects of branched chain amino acids in feed for various genetic types of layers throughout their productive lifetime.

Abstract
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a chronic and metabolic liver disease and commonly occurs in humans with obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM); such a condition also exists in animals such as rodents and laying hens. Since the pathogenesis of fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome (FLHS) of laying hens is similar to human NAFLD, hen's FLHS is commonly selected as a study model of NAFLD. Altered circulating amino acids, particularly elevated branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) and aromatic amino acids (AAAs), are consistently reported in patients with NAFLD and T2DM. How long-term dietary individual BCAA, such as valine, impacts amino acid and fatty acid metabolism remains unknown. In this study, we demonstrated that when laying hens are fed with dietary valine at different levels (59, 0.64, 0.69, 0.74, and 0.79%) in a feeding trial that lasted for 8 weeks, long-term exposure to excessive valine diets at 0.74 and 0.79% levels could induce amino acid imbalance, impair amino acid metabolism, increase fatty acid synthesis, and inhibit fatty acid utilization. Long-term intake of excessive dietary valine could result in impaired amino acid metabolism via inhibiting C/EBP-β/asparagine synthetase (Asns). This process is mediated by downregulating the general control nonderepressible-eukaryotic initiation factor 2α- activating transcription factor (GCN2-eIF2α-ATF4) pathway and elevating corresponding circulating BCAAs and AAAs levels, which could ultimately result in amino acid imbalance. High levels of dietary valine stimulated lipid deposition by suppressing the GCN2-eIF2α-ATF4-fibroblast growth factor-19 (FGF19)-target of rapamycin complex 1 (TORC1) signaling pathway to promote fatty acid synthesis, repress fatty acid utilization, and eventually accelerate the development of NAFLD. The Spearman correlation analysis revealed that circulating amino acid imbalance is significantly associated with fatty acid metabolism disorder and enhanced oxidative stress. The inhibition of the GCN2-TORC1 pathway induced autophagy suppression to trigger liver oxidative stress and inflammatory response. In conclusion, our results revealed the adverse metabolic response to excessive dietary valine mediated by amino acid and fatty acid metabolism disorders. This study also suggested reducing dietary valine as a novel approach to preventing and treating NAFLD in humans and FLHS in laying hens.

Abstract
This review provides insight into the effects of the branched-chain amino acids (BCAA: leucine, isoleucine, and valine) on the growth, production performance, immunity, and intestinal health of poultry. Besides providing nitrogen substrates and carbon framework for energy homeostasis and transamination, BCAA also function as signaling molecules in the regulation of glucose, lipid, and protein synthesis via protein kinase B and as a mechanistic target of the rapamycin (AKT-mTOR) signaling pathway that is important for muscle accretion. The level of leucine is generally high in cereals and an imbalance in the ratio among the 3 BCAA in a low protein diet would produce a negative effect on poultry growth performance. This occurs due to the structural similarity of the 3 BCAA, which leads to metabolic competition and interference with the enzymatic degradation pathway. Emerging evidence shows that the inclusion of BCAA is essential for the proper functioning of the innate and adaptive immune system and the maintenance of intestinal mucosal integrity. The recommended levels of BCAA for poultry are outlined by NRC (1994), but commercial broilers and laying hen breed standards also determine their own recommended levels. In this review, it has been noted that the requirement for BCAA is influenced by the diet type, breed, and age of the birds. Additionally, several studies focused on the effects of BCAA in low protein diets as a strategy to reduce nitrogen excretion. Notably, there is limited research on the inclusion ratio of BCAA in a supplemental form as compared to the ingredient-bound form which would affect the dynamics of utilization in different disease-challenged conditions, especially those affecting digesta passage ratio. In summary, this review encompasses the role of BCAA as functional AA and discusses their physiological effects on the productivity and health of poultry. The observations and interpretations of this review can guide future research to adjust the recommended levels of BCAA in feeding programs in the absence of subtherapeutic antibiotics in poultry.

Abstract
Subclinical necrotic enteritis (SNE) is a severe intestinal disease in broilers which brings huge economic losses to poultry industry. Herein, the effects of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens BLCC1-0238 (B. amyloliquefaciens BLCC1-0238) alone or in combination with mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS) on the SNE challenge model in broilers were comprehensively explored. A total of 360 broilers were randomly divided into 4 groups, including an SNE infection control (IC), an antibiotic pretreatment control (AC), a B. amyloliquefaciens BLCC1-0238 pretreatment (BP), and a B. amyloliquefaciens BLCC1-0238 + MOS pretreatment (BMP). The results showed that compared with the IC, three pretreatment groups significantly improved the growth performance, lowered the overall mortality, and reduced intestinal mucosal lesions in broilers. Additionally, the expression levels of claudin-3 and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma coactivator-1α in the BP and BMP groups and the levels of mucin-2 and mechanistic target of rapamycin in the BMP group were significantly upregulated compared with the IC. By contrast, the expression levels of interferon-γ, interleukin-10, and secretory immunoglobulin A in the BP and BMP groups were significantly downregulated. In conclusion, these findings show that B. amyloliquefaciens BLCC1-0238 in combination with MOS can exert synergetic effects by the interplay between them on improving growth performance and combating the SNE infection in broilers.

Abstract
Valine is an important essential amino acid of laying hens. Dietary supplemented with BCAAs ameliorated gut microbiota, whereas elevated blood levels of BCAAs are positively associated with obesity, insulin resistance, and diabetes in both humans and rodents. General controlled nonrepressed (GCN2) kinase plays a crucial role in regulating intestinal inflammation and hepatic fatty acid homeostasis during amino acids deficiency, while GCN2 deficient results in enhanced intestinal inflammation and developed hepatic steatosis. However, how long-term dietary valine impacts gut health and the development of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) remains unknown. Hence, in the present study, we elucidated the effects of dietary valine on intestinal barrier function, microbial homeostasis, and the development of NAFLD. A total of 960 healthy 33-weeks-old laying hens were randomly divided into five experimental groups and fed with valine at the following different levels in a feeding trial that lasted 8 weeks: 0.59, 0.64, 0.69, 0.74, and 0.79%, respectively. After 8 weeks of treatment, related tissues and cecal contents were obtained for further analysis. The results showed that diet supplemented with valine ameliorated gut health by improving intestinal villus morphology, enhancing intestinal barrier, decreasing cecum pathogenic bacteria abundances such as Fusobacteriota and Deferribacterota, and inhibiting inflammatory response mediated by GCN2. However, long-term intake of high levels of dietary valine (0.74 and 0.79%) accelerated the development of NAFLD of laying hens by promoting lipogenesis and inhibiting fatty acid oxidation mediated by GCN2-eIF2α-ATF4. Furthermore, NAFLD induced by high levels of dietary valine (0.74 and 0.79%) resulted in strengthening oxidative stress, ER stress, and inflammatory response. Our results revealed that high levels of valine are a key regulator of gut health and the adverse metabolic response to NAFLD and suggested reducing dietary valine as a new approach to preventing NAFLD of laying hens.
