Abstract
BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted many areas of life, including culturally accepted practices at end-of-life care, funeral rites, and access to social, community, and professional support. This survey investigated the mental health outcomes of Australians bereaved during this time to determine how these factors might have impacted bereavement outcomes. METHODS An online survey indexing pandemic and bereavement experiences, levels of grief, depression, anxiety, and health, work, and social impairment. Latent class analysis (LCA) was used to identify groups of individuals who shared similar symptom patterns. Multinomial regressions identified pandemic-related, loss-related, and sociodemographic correlates of class membership. RESULTS 1911 Australian adults completed the survey. The LCA identified four classes: low symptoms (46.8%), grief (17.3%), depression/anxiety (17.7%), and grief/depression/anxiety (18.2%). The latter group reported the highest levels of health, work, and social impairment. The death of a child or partner and an inability to care for the deceased due to COVID-19 public health measures were correlated with grief symptoms (with or without depression and anxiety). Preparedness for the person's death and levels of pandemic-related loneliness and social isolation differentiated all four classes. Unemployment was associated with depression/anxiety (with or without grief). CONCLUSIONS COVID-19 had profound impacts for the way we lived and died, with effects that are likely to ricochet through society into the foreseeable future. These lessons learned must inform policymakers and healthcare professionals to improve bereavement care and ensure preparedness during and following future predicted pandemics to prevent negative impacts.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to describe the emerging role of the palliative care clinical trials nurse in an era of evidence-based practice and increasing clinical trial activity in palliative care settings across Australia. An overview of the current clinical trials work is provided, with a focus on three aspects of clinical trials nursing practice that have significant implications for patients: managing the consent process, integrating clinical trials into multidisciplinary care, and establishing and building the evidence base to inform practice in palliative care settings. Clinical trials roles provide palliative care nurses with an opportunity to contribute to clinical research, help expand palliative care's evidence base, and develop their own research capabilities.

Abstract
GABA(A) receptors can be constructed from a range of differing subunit isoforms: alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon. Expression studies have revealed that production of GABA-gated channels is achieved after coexpression of alpha and beta subunits. The expression of a gamma subunit isoform is essential to confer benzodiazepine sensitivity on the expressed receptor. However, how the specificity of subunit interactions is controlled during receptor assembly remains unknown. Here we demonstrate that residues 58-67 within alpha subunit isoforms are important in the assembly of receptors comprised of alphabeta and alphabetagamma subunits. Deletion of these residues from the alpha1 or alpha6 subunits results in retention of either alpha subunit isoform in the endoplasmic reticulum on coexpression with the beta3, or beta3 and gamma2 subunits. Immunoprecipitation revealed that residues 58-67 mediated oligomerization of the alpha1 and beta3 subunits, but were without affect on the production of alpha/gamma complexes. Within this domain, glutamine 67 was of central importance in mediating the production of functional alpha1beta3 receptors. Mutation of this residue resulted in a drastic decrease in the cell surface expression of alpha1beta3 receptors and the resulting expression of beta3 homomers. Sucrose density gradient centrifugation revealed that this residue was important for the production of a 9S alpha1beta3 complex representing functional GABA(A) receptors. Therefore, our studies detail residues that specify GABA(A) receptor alphabeta subunit interactions. This domain, which is conserved in all alpha subunit isoforms, will therefore play a critical role in the assembly of GABA(A) receptors composed of alphabeta and alphabetagamma subunits.
