Abstract
Vitamin D is important for health and disease. Milk is a good natural source of it, and calcium-vitamin D supplements are widely available over-the-counter and prescribed in clinical practice. But the effect of milk intake and calcium-vitamin D supplementation on serum vitamin D status is not known. This cross-sectional study was done to see the relationship between vitamin D status and milk intake or oral calcium-vitamin D supplementation using a structured questionnaire and carried out in a private consultation centre of Dhaka city, the capital of Bangladesh from July 2017 to March 2018. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] level was measured by radioimmunoassay. Out of 259 patients, 64.1% had vitamin D deficiency defined as serum 25(OH)D level <20ng/mL. Sixty one percent of those who had serum 25(OH)D level <20ng/mL did not take milk or milk products, while 53.0% of those having 25(OH)D level ≥20ng/mL did not take milk. Approximately 89.0% of those who had serum 25(OH)D level <20ng/mL did not take oral calcium-vitamin D, whereas 72.0% of those having 25(OH)D level ≥20ng/mL did not take oral calcium-vitamin D (p=0.001). In the multiple logistic regression analysis, there were significantly increased odds of vitamin D deficiency for females as compared to males [odds ratio (OR) 2.48, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.34-4.56] and not taking oral vitamin D as compared to taking oral vitamin D (OR 3.56, 95% CI 1.74-7.28). Vitamin D deficiency is widely prevalent. Lack of milk intake and calcium-vitamin D supplementation are more commonly associated with serum vitamin D deficiency, and calcium-vitamin D supplementation is specially important in females.

Abstract
Both periodontal disease and diabetes mellitus (DM) are important public health issues. Compared to the non-diabetic counterparts, diabetic patients more often suffer from dental problems, sometimes requiring fixed-dental prosthesis. Gingival inflammation and other forms of periodontal disease are the common complications of the dental prosthesis. This prospective comparative experimental study was intended to compare the outcome of the periodontal health after placement of full veneer crown in diabetic and non-diabetic patients in the Department of Prosthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Bangladesh from April 2018 to March 2019. This study involved consecutive 53 diabetic and 53 non-diabetic adult patients of either sex, undergoing treatment with full veneer crown in either maxillary or mandibular posterior teeth with healthy periodontal tissue. The outcome variables were: plaque index, gingival index, periodontal pocket depth, and bleeding on probing, at baseline, 3 months and 6 months post-procedure. Gingival index in the diabetic group reached from 0 at baseline to nearly 0.1 at 3 months which then steeply reached to 0.2 at 6 months interval, whereas the same index in the non-diabetic group reached from 0 at baseline to 0.009 at 3 months and 0.04 at 6 months interval. Plaque index of diabetic patients increased from 0 at baseline to 0.5 at 3- and 6-months interval, whereas the plaque index of non-diabetic patients increased to 0.4 at 3 months and then decreased again 0.3 at 6 months interval (p<0.001). Periodontal pocket depth of diabetic group increased from 1.0mm at baseline to 1.2 and 1.5mm at 3 and 6 months respectively, while the same measure in the non-diabetic group increased to 1.1 and 1.3mm at 3 and 6 months respectively (p<0.001). Bleeding on probing index in the diabetic group reached sharply to 1.5 at 3 months from 0 at baseline and then it reached 2.3 at 6 months, whereas the same index in non-diabetic group reached 1.1 and 1.6 at 3 and 6 months respectively (p<0.001). Periodontal health outcome of full veener crown in diabetic patients is adversely affected compared to that in non-diabetic patients.

Abstract
The National Tuberculosis Control Program (NTP) is one of the largest programs run by the state with many successes. However, underreporting is considered a real flaw of the current program. To report the characteristics and outcomes of TB patients registered in an upazila health complex in Kazipur, Sirajganj district, Bangladesh between September 2018 and February 2019 under the control of NTP was the objective of the study. This retrospective cohort study was conducted using routinely collected program data from the aforementioned site. Data retrieved from the hospital record form. Formal permission was obtained from the local authority. Consent statements and ethical aspects were waived due to the retrospective nature of the study. Analysis was performed using SPSS 20.0. A total of 207 tuberculosis cases were included with an average age of presentation of 43 years. Approximately 82.0% had pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and the rest had extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB). PTB was more common in males, whereas EPTB was common in females (p=0.01). Of all cases, 84.0% were diagnosed by a positive sputum smear and 16.0% were diagnosed clinically with a negative sputum smear. Attendance at follow-up was 82.12%, 70.04% and 68.59% at months 2, 5 and 6 following index admission respectively. Overall, the cure rate was higher in PTB than EPTB [146 (85.9%) vs. 5 (13.5%), p<0.001). The rate of treatment completion was 25.1% (n=52) and the death count was 1.4% (n=3) [PTB-1.2 (n=2) vs. EPTB-2.7% (n=1)]. A gradual decline in reporting or completion of treatment was observed in this setting. However, a nationwide study is warranted to explore this issue in detail.

Abstract
A case is presented of prostatic cancer with marked neuroendocrine differentiation. Double-labeled immunohistochemical staining was performed with prostate-specific antigen and Chromogranin A. Both antibodies were localized to some of the cancer cells with Paneth cell-like features. Furthermore, most of the cancer cells were positively stained with luminal cell marker CAM 5.2, suggesting that neuroendocrine cells originated from the prostatic luminal cells.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to measure the effect of concurrent diarrheal illness on seroconversion to trivalent oral polio vaccine (OPV). METHODS Six- to 16-week-old infants with acute diarrhea and age-matched controls received single doses of OPV at enrollment, 4 weeks after enrollment and 8 weeks after enrollment. Serum specimens were obtained at enrollment, before the second OPV dose and 4 weeks after the third OPV dose for measurement of antibody titers to polio virus by the microneutralization assay. RESULTS Four weeks after the first OPV dose, the serologic responses to poliovirus types 2 and 3 in the case cohort were lower by 26 and 34%, respectively, than in the control cohort (P < 0.002 for both comparisons). Poliovirus type 2 and 3 geometric mean antibody titers in the diarrhea cohort were approximately 50% of the geometric mean antibody titers in the control cohort (235 (95% confidence interval (CI) 154 to 359) vs. 446 (95% CI 350 to 569) and 64 (95% CI 45 to 90) vs. 112 (95% CI 88 to 143), respectively, P < 0.01 for both comparisons). After the third OPV dose the seroconvertion rates to poliovirus types 2 and 3 each remained about 10% lower in the case cohort than in the control cohort, but the differences were not statistically significant. CONCLUSION Concurrent acute diarrhea adversely affects seroconvertion rates of type 2 and 3 polioviruses among infants in Bangladesh receiving the first dose of trivalent OPV.

Abstract
A facile route for the
preparation of 1,2-diaryl-4-arylmethylene-2-imidazolin-5-ones was established
by the direct interaction of primary aromatic amines with 2-(m-tolyl)-4-arylmethylene-2-oxazolin-5-ones
in acetic acid containing catalytic amounts of sodium acetate. The same
imidazolones were also obtained by cyclization of the aryl- carboxamides of
α-arylcarboxamido-β-arylacrylic acids under the same reaction conditions.
A possible reaction mechanism was discussed.
