Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate COVID-19 spread among people experiencing homelessness (PEH), undocumented migrants (UMs), and shelter staff of homeless service sites. Another aim has been to prevent an outbreak among these populations. A San Gallicano Institute's initiative to sustain the health system in helping hard-to-reach populations, very often with no community medical care coverage. SUBJECTS AND METHODS The San Gallicano Dermatological Institute performed active surveillance for COVID-19 on PEH and UMs living in Rome and Latina, Italy. The screening was performed with two swabs: real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and antigen rapid tests. RESULTS From June 2020 to January 2022, we performed 10,651 tests: 5,442 molecular swabs and 5,209 antigen rapid tests. A total of 3,503 individuals were screened. The prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection was 2.9% among the health and social workers and 5.7% among PEH and UMs. None of the people positive for COVID-19 had symptoms or signs of several illnesses. PEH and UMs who tested positive for COVID-19, asymptomatic or pauci-symptomatic, were transferred to a COVID Hotel or dedicated apartment for further clinical monitoring. CONCLUSIONS People experiencing homelessness and undocumented migrants are often not registered in the National Health Service and, therefore, difficult to trace. These data could aid in estimating the spread of SARS-CoV-2 among people experiencing homelessness, undocumented migrants, and shelter staff in two Italian cities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM Colorectal adenocarcinoma (CRAdenoCa) and appendiceal adenocarcinoma (AAdenoCa) are diseases of the same histopathological type that metastasise to the liver and peritoneum. In selected subgroups, peritonectomy and heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) may be indicated as part of the multimodal treatment plan. However, literature comparing the survival outcomes and preoperative tumour activity and burden of CRAdenoCa and AAdenoCa peritonectomy patients without synchronous liver metastases (sLM) is scarce. Little is also known about the comparative incidence of sLM and metachronous LM (mLM) between CRAdenoCa and AAdenoCa peritonectomy patients. This study aimed to clarify the above. PATIENTS AND METHODS A retrospective cohort study of 684 CRAdenoCa and AAdenoCa primary peritonectomy patients between 2001-2021 was conducted at St George Hospital in Sydney, Australia. RESULTS Median overall survival (years) was equivocal between CRAdenoCa and AAdenoCa peritonectomy patients (1.7 vs. 1.9, p=0.35). Peritoneal cancer index and preoperative carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) were significantly elevated (25 vs. 9, p<0.0001 and 7.9 vs. 5, p=0.0080) in AAdenoCa versus CRAdenoCa peritonectomy patients without sLM. The incidence of sLM and mLM was increased in CRAdenoCa peritonectomy patients (24% vs. 3.1%, p<0.0001 and 26% vs. 10%, p=0.0001). CONCLUSION This study demonstrates similar survival outcomes between CRAdenoCa and AAdenoCa peritonectomy patients. Despite elevated preoperative tumour burden and biological activity in AAdenoCa patients, CRAdenoCa patients had higher rates of sLM and mLM. Further studies are warranted to validate and identify cellular and molecular targets that increase CRAdenoCa's ability to metastasise to the liver.

Abstract
This case study draws attention to the psychosocial difficulties that emerged in the context of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in relation to the remote management of subjects with psychiatric vulnerabilities following exposure to prolonged quarantine. The case involves a 56-year-old hospital nurse, followed by the Occupational Health Department of a major university hospital in central Italy for mood instability in the context of a cyclothymic temperament. She was quarantined for occupationally acquired COVID-19 and remained positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) via swab test for more than 2 months between March and May 2020. In this case study, we discuss the challenges presented by the risk of a prolonged quarantine in a psychologically vulnerable employee, the need for occupational medicine to provide adequate health surveillance of all health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, the effectiveness of telepsychiatry, and the difficulties in formulating a proper treatment strategy.

Abstract
In Italy COVID-19 pandemic had a severe impact. The homeless live in situations aggravating their poor health conditions and comorbidities. Although homeless people are a fragile category, no dedicated measures by public health departments seem to be applied infrequently to this population. For these reasons, they are probably one of the categories most affected by the global spread of the SARS-CoV-2. Moreover, the current vaccination campaign against COVID-19 can represent an important opportunity for health and social integration also for the homeless. This scoping review performed a map to describe strategies and interventions adopted to protect the homeless population during the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy. The methodology adheres to the PRISMA statement (extension for purpose revision) and follows the framework of Arksey and O'Malley. At the end of the selection process, 7 studies deemed relevant were included. Many strategies have been adopted to counter the spread of the virus to the homeless population, such as rapid and molecular tests with swabs or rapid blood tests. All the tests for diagnosing the infection currently in use have also been used for the homeless.

Abstract
Background The clinical manifestations of recent syphilis can be variable, with typical and atypical patterns. Several conditions may cause atypical clinical aspects, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) co-infection. Besides the clinical features, co-infections may completely alter syphilis serological tests, causing interpretative difficulties and diagnostic delays. Aim of the work is to describe the difficulties encountered during the diagnostic evaluation of atypical skin manifestations and of the serology for syphilis of an HIV-infected patient who had contracted it several times. Case presentation In 2020, a 52-year old HIV-positive bisexual male patient was admitted to our department with a 4-month history of moderately itchy cutaneous lesions localized at his neck, trunk and arms. In 2013, the patient presented with a classic syphilitic roseola of the trunk and a secondary syphilis was diagnosed, with increased levels of rapid plasma reagin (RPR), Treponema pallidum hemagglutination assay (TPHA), anti-Treponema pallidum IgM and IgG Index. A second episode occurred in 2018, as a primary syphilis with multiple ulcerative lesions of the penis, and increased levels of RPR, IgG and IgM. In 2019, a further episode of secondary syphilis was treated with Doxycycline. In 2020, erythematous and papular lesions with vesicular components and urticarial erythema multiforme (EM)-like lesions were present at the neck, trunk and arms. Serological tests and Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) for Treponema Pallidum were performed, as well as a cutaneous biopsy with histological and immunohistochemical evaluation of one lesion. NAAT was negative for T. pallidum. Serological test results were discordant with a new syphilis infection, showing only increased levels of RPR and anti-Treponema IgG. The cutaneous biopsy revealed a non specific histological pattern, while the immunohistochemical evaluation with anti-spirochetal antibodies was mandatory for the diagnosis of recent syphilis, showing clusters of rod-shaped elements, some of which with spiral form, focally present at the epidermis and adnexal structures. Conclusions Nowadays, syphilis may present with atypical clinical and serological features. Physicians should be aware of these possible alterations and consider syphilis even in case of uncommon clinical aspect and unclear serological tests. Cutaneous biopsy and immunohistochemical exam may be mandatory for the diagnosis.

Abstract
Background:TNF inhibitors have been largely demonstrated to be effective and reasonably safe for the treatment of psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Current EULAR guidelines recommend the use of an anti-TNF as first choice treatment in patients with PsA for whom a synthetic DMARD (usually methotrexate or leflunomide) is not efficacious or not well tolerated [1]. In a scenario where biologic treatments are easily available, and the treat to target strategy is widely accepted, a complete disease remission or at least a minimal disease activity are considered realistic goals to be achieved in a growing proportion of patients [2]. However, there remains very little research regarding anti-TNF discontinuation in patients who achieved a complete remission [3-5].Objectives:The primary aim of this study was to measure the disease-free interval after anti-TNF discontinuation, secondary it was investigated whether the use of Power Doppler Ultrasound (PDUS) and Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound (CEUS) could improve the diagnostic accuracy in the recognition of the relapse. Finally, we wanted to characterize the clinical features of the disease recurrence.Methods:From June 2018, 35 patients with PsA (27 males and 8 female) treated with anti-TNF, in stable remission were prospectively monitored for 1 year after treatment discontinuation. Remission was defined as documented absence of clinical and ultrasonographic signs of arthritis or enthesitis. Complete rheumatological and dermatological examinations were performed in all participants, at baseline and every 8-12 weeks: American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 66-68 joint count; Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI); patient pain visual analog score (VAS); patient global disease activity VAS; Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ); Leeds Enthesitis Index (LEI); Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI); Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI); Power Doppler Ultrasound (PDUS) of the involved joints and entheses, Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound (CEUS) of a selected joint or enthesis and laboratory inflammation tests.Results:31 out of the 35 enrolled patients, experienced a disease recurrence with an average disease-free interval of 27.9±21.1 weeks (Figure 1). In 3 patients the treatment was restored for a relapse of the skin psoriasis, 8 patients reported only axial symptoms of disease relapse and 20 patients had both axial and peripheral joints involvement (average DAPSA score of 23.6±11.1; average BASDAI score of 4.7±2.6; average BASFI score 4.5±2.9). In all cases the disease flare was moderate and all patients promptly regained remission after restarting the treatment. Both PDUS and CEUS were safe and reliable showing a good percentage of accordance (95,4%) in detecting synovitis and enthesitis.Conclusion:The rate of disease relapse of PsA after anti-TNF discontinuation is relevant. Abstract
BACKGROUND Treatment of moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD) in the elderly may be challenging, due to side-effects of traditional anti-inflammatory drugs and to comorbidities often found in this age group. Furthermore, efficacy and safety of innovative drugs such as dupilumab are not yet well known. OBJECTIVES A multicentre retrospective, observational, real-life study on the efficacy and safety of dupilumab was conducted in a group of patients aged ≥65 years and affected by severe AD. Their main clinical features were also examined. METHODS Data of elderly patients with severe (EASI ≥24) AD treated with dupilumab at label dosage for 16 weeks were retrospectively collected. Treatment outcome was assessed by comparing objective (EASI) and subjective (P-NRS, S-NRS and DLQI) scores at baseline and after 16 weeks of treatment. RESULTS Two hundred and seventy-six patients were enrolled in the study. They represented 11.37% of all patients with severe AD. Flexural eczema was the most frequent clinical phenotype, followed by prurigo nodularis. The coexistence of more than one phenotype was found in 63/276 (22.82%) subjects. Data on the 16-week treatment with dupilumab were available for 253 (91.67%) patients. Efficacy of dupilumab was demonstrated by a significant reduction of all the scores. No statistically significant difference regarding efficacy was found in elderly patients when compared to the group of our AD patients aged 18-64 years, treated with dupilumab over the same period. Furthermore, only 18 (6.52%) patients discontinued the drug due to inefficacy. Sixty-one (22.51%) patients reported adverse events, conjunctivitis and flushing being the most frequent. One (0.36%) patient only discontinued dupilumab due to an adverse event. CONCLUSIONS Therapy with dupilumab led to a significant improvement of AD over a 16-week treatment period, with a good safety profile. Therefore, dupilumab could be considered as an efficacious and safe treatment for AD also in the elderly.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nickel (Ni) dermatitis remains a highly prevalent allergic condition in Italy. There is a continuous need for clinical and epidemiological surveillance to evaluate whether or not European Ni Directive has been effective in contact allergy prevention. OBJECTIVES To assess the prevalence of Ni dermatitis among patch-tested patients and self-interviewed school students and to analyse Ni release from earlobe jewellery. METHODS Results of patch tests performed in 2006-2007, 2015-2016 and 2017-2018 were retrieved. A questionnaire was compiled by 315 secondary school students. Ni release from earring parts was analysed with the EN1811:2015 method. RESULTS A significant time trend of decreasing Ni positivity from 2006-2007 to 2017-2018 was observed both in the overall population (44.1% in 2006-2007, 33.0% in 2015-2016, 31.6% in 2017-2018, P < 0.0001) and in female patients (P < 0.0001). Conversely, change was not significant in males (P = 0.16). Decrease was significant for all age groups, except for those aged >60 years (P = 0.51). Among 242 students who reported earring use, 130 (54%) reported symptoms at earlobes, mostly associated with jewellery of materials other than gold and silver (59% of those with earlobe symptoms). Ni release exceeded the migration limit in 4/21 (20%) earring parts. CONCLUSIONS A high prevalence of Ni dermatitis and earlobe symptoms were found in Rome. A decreasing time trend was noted, with a significant decline in Ni sensitivity compared to the situation observed right after Ni Directive implementation. This most likely represents the consequence of reduced Ni content in earring parts, although a major care in the use of Ni-containing objects could contribute to explain these findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) is defined as spontaneous occurrence of wheals and/or angioedema for ≥6 weeks. Omalizumab is a monoclonal anti-IgE antibody effective in refractory CSU, but its mechanism of action and markers predictive of response remain not completely defined. OBJECTIVES To correlate baseline levels of two proposed biomarkers, total IgE (bIgE) and d-dimer (bd-dimer), and clinical parameters to omalizumab response and to relapses after drug withdrawal. METHODS In this retrospective Italian multicentre study, clinical data were collected in 470 CSU patients, and bIgE and bd-dimer were measured in 340 and 342 patients, respectively. Disease activity was determined by Urticaria Activity Score 7 (UAS7) at week 1 and 12 after omalizumab starting. Relapses were evaluated during a 2- and 3-month interval after a first and a second course of treatment, respectively. RESULTS bIgE correlated to a good response to omalizumab since levels were significantly higher in responders than non-responders (P = 0.0002). Conversely, bd-dimer did not correlate to response. There was no correlation between both bIgE and d-dimer and either first or second relapse. Disease duration was significantly longer in patients who experienced either first or second relapse (P < 0.0001 and P = 0.0105, respectively), while baseline UAS7 correlated only to first relapse (P = 0.0023). CONCLUSIONS Our study confirms bIgE as a reliable biomarker predicting response to omalizumab in CSU, while it does not support the usefulness of bd-dimer unlike previous findings. CSU duration before omalizumab and baseline UAS7 may be clinical markers of relapse risk.

Abstract
Background Transmitted drug-resistance (TDR) remains a critical aspect for the management of HIV-1-infected individuals. Thus, studying the dynamics of TDR is crucial to optimize HIV care. Methods In total, 4323 HIV-1 protease/reverse-transcriptase sequences from drug-naive individuals diagnosed in north and central Italy between 2000 and 2014 were analysed. TDR was evaluated over time. Maximum-likelihood and Bayesian phylogenetic trees with bootstrap and Bayesian-probability supports defined transmission clusters. Results Most individuals were males (80.2%) and Italian (72.1%), with a median (IQR) age of 37 (30-45) years. MSM accounted for 42.2% of cases, followed by heterosexuals (36.4%). Non-B subtype infections accounted for 30.8% of the overall population and increased over time (<2005-14: 19.5%-38.5%, P < 0.0001), particularly among Italians (<2005-14: 6.5%-28.8%, P < 0.0001). TDR prevalence was 8.8% and increased over time in non-B subtypes (<2005-14: 2%-7.1%, P = 0.018). Overall, 467 transmission clusters (involving 1207 individuals; 27.9%) were identified. The prevalence of individuals grouping in transmission clusters increased over time in both B (<2005-14: 12.9%-33.5%, P = 0.001) and non-B subtypes (<2005-14: 18.4%-41.9%, P = 0.006). TDR transmission clusters were 13.3% within the overall cluster observed and dramatically increased in recent years (<2005-14: 14.3%-35.5%, P = 0.005). This recent increase was mainly due to non-B subtype-infected individuals, who were also more frequently involved in large transmission clusters than those infected with a B subtype [median number of individuals in transmission clusters: 7 (IQR 6-19) versus 4 (3-4), P = 0.047]. Conclusions The epidemiology of HIV transmission changed greatly over time; the increasing number of transmission clusters (sometimes with drug resistance) shows that detection and proper treatment of the multi-transmitters is a major target for controlling HIV spread.

Abstract
An increase in skin rashes or atopic dermatitis has been observed in individuals working with vanadium. However, to the best of our knowledge no in vivo or in vitro studies have evaluated the effect of exposure to vanadium in dermal fibroblasts. Cells viability and proliferation were assessed by WST‑1 assay, cells were treated with increasing concentrations of V2O5 (1, 10 and 100 nM). CXCL8 and CXCL11 concentrations were measured in the supernatants using an ELISA assay. V2O5 was not observed as having a significant effect on dermal fibroblast's viability and proliferation. However, it was revealed that V2O5 was able to induce the secretion of CXCL8 and CXCL11 chemokines into dermal fibroblasts. V2O5 synergistically increased the effect of interferon (IFN)γ on CXCL11 secretion. In addition, V2O5 synergistically increased the effect of the tumor necrosis factor α on CXCL8 secretion and abolished the inhibitory effect of IFNγ. V2O5 induction of CXCL8 and CXCL11 chemokines may lead to the appearance and perpetuation of an inflammatory reaction into the dermal tissue. Further studies are required to evaluate dermal integrity and manifestations in subjects occupationally exposed, or living in polluted areas.

Abstract
Vanadium is a soft, silvery‑grey metal with a number of different oxidation states. The most common commercial form of vanadium is vanadium pentoxide (V2O5). All vanadium compounds are considered toxic. An increase in skin rashes has been observed in certain vanadium workers, including the development of atopic dermatitis. However, to the best of our knowledge, no prior in vivo or in vitro studies have evaluated the effect of vanadium exposure in human dermal fibroblasts. The present study evaluated the effect of V2O5 on proliferation and chemokine secretion in dermal fibroblasts. The results revealed that V2O5 had no significant effect on the viability or proliferation of fibroblasts, however it was able to induce the secretion of T‑helper (Th)1 chemokines from dermal fibroblasts, synergistically increasing the effect of important Th1 cytokines, including interferon‑γ and tumor necrosis factor‑α. Through these processes, V2O5 may lead to the induction and perpetuation of an inflammatory reaction in dermal tissue. The induction and perpetuation of inflammation in the dermis and the variety of involved candidate genes may be at the base of V2O5‑induced effects following occupational and environmental exposures. Further studies are necessary to evaluate dermal integrity and manifestations in subjects who are occupationally exposed, or living in polluted areas.

Abstract
Vanadium is a grey metal, existing in different states of oxidation, whose most common form in commercial products is vanadium pentoxide (V2O5). All vanadium compounds have been considered toxic. A carcinogenic role of vanadium on the thyroid has recently been proposed. However no in vivo or in vitro studies have evaluated thyroid disruption in humans and/or animals after exposure to vanadium. In the present study we evaluate the effect of V2O5 on proliferation, and chemokine secretion in normal thyrocytes. Our study demonstrated that V2O5 has no effect on thyroid follicular cell viability or proliferation, but it is able to induce the secretion of T-helper (Th)1 chemokines into the thyroid, synergistically increasing the effect of important Th1 cytokines such as interferon (IFN)γ and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)α. Through this process, V2O5 promotes the induction and perpetuation of an inflammatory reaction in the thyroid. Further studies are necessary to evaluate thyroid function, and nodules, in subjects occupationally exposed, or living in polluted areas.

Abstract
Scientific literature suggests a relationship between military occupation and the development of brain tumors, but no italian study has investigated on the impact of this job on the brain cancer morbidity. In this a study information were obtained from patients recruited in the Neurosurgical Department of the University-Hospital of Pisa, Italy, from 1990 to 1999. The study has been conducted as a case-control study. 161, newly diagnosed cases of brain tumors (glioma and meningiomas, histologically confirmed), were recruited, such as 483 controls (with other non tumoral neurologic diseases: trauma, hemorrhagic brain disorders, aneurism, etc), by matching cases and controls (1:3), for age (± 5 years) and gender. Cases and controls were interviewed in the Neurosurgical Department, University-Hospital of Pisa, Italy, and the occupational histories of cases and controls were compared. Cases and controls have showed a statistically significant difference, based on their occupation (military vs. non-military occupation). A statistically significant association was seen between brain tumors and military occupation among evaluated patients (p=0.013). Further studies regarding this population group are needed, to determine the causes for the increased risk of this cancer. Furthermore, a subsequent reevaluation in other patients collected in more recent years will be needed to evaluate the trend of this association.

Abstract
Even though a relationship between farmer work and the development of brain tumors was suggest by the scientific literature, a small number of italian studies investigate on the impact of this job on the cancer morbidity of farmer population. The informations about this case-control study were obtained from patients recruited in the Neurosurgical Department of the University-Hospital of Pisa, Italy, from 1990 to 2000. One hundred and seventy-four, newly diagnosed cases of brain tumors (glioma and meningiomas, histologically confirmed), were recruited, such as 522 controls (with other non tumoral neurologic diseases: trauma, etc), by matching cases and controls (1:3), for age (± 5 years) and gender. Cases and controls were interviewed in the Neurosurgical Department, University-Hospital of Pisa, Italy, and the occupational histories of cases and controls were compared. Cases and controls have showed a statistically significant difference, based on their occupation (agricultural vs. non-agricultural). We observed a significant association among brain tumors and rural activity in evaluated patients (P=0.008). Further studies regarding this population group are needed, to determine the causes for the increased risk of this cancer, particularly in regions where there is an intense agricultural activity and where pesticides are used. Furthermore, a subsequent reevaluation in other patients collected in more recent years will be needed to evaluate the trend of this association.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the association of clinicopathologic and molecular features with loco-regional recurrence (LRR) in post-mastectomy breast cancer patients with or without adjuvant radiotherapy (PMRT). PATIENTS AND METHODS We retrospectively reviewed data of patients undergone to mastectomy followed or not by PMRT between January 2004 and June 2013. The patients were divided according to clinicopathologic and molecular sub-classification features. LRR and Cancer Specific Survival (CSS) were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method; the prognostic factors were compared using long-rank tests and Cox regression model. RESULTS A total of 912 patients underwent to mastectomy of whom 269 (29.5%) followed by PMRT and 643 (70.5%) not; among the PMRT group, 77 underwent to the chest wall (CW) and 202 to the chest wall and lymphatic drainage (CWLD) irradiation. The median follow-up was 54 months (range, 3-118). No significant difference in terms of LRR and CSS was found between non-PMRT and PMRT group (p=0.175; and p=0.628). The multivariate analysis of LRR for patients who did not undergo PMRT showed a significant correlation with the presence of extracapsular extension (ECE) (p=0.049), Ki-67>30% (p=0.048) and triple negative status (p=0.001). In the PMRT group, triple negative status resulted as the only variable significantly correlated to LRR (p=0.006) at the multivariate analysis and T-stage also showed a trend to significance (p=0.073). Finally, no difference in LRR control was shown between CW and CWLD-PMRT (p=0.078). CONCLUSIONS After mastectomy ECE, a cut off of Ki-67>30% and triple negative status were strictly correlated with LRR regardless of clinicopathologic stage. PMRT has a positive impact in decreasing LRR in patients with this molecular profile. Besides, CW might represent a valid option for patients with one to three positive nodes.

Abstract
Temporary abdominal closure (TAC) techniques are routinely used in the open abdomen. Ideally, they should prevent evisceration, aid in removal of unwanted fluid from the peritoneal cavity, facilitate in achieving safe definitive fascial closure, as well as prevent the development of intra-abdominal complications. TAC techniques used in the open abdomen were compared with negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) to identify which was superior. A systematic review was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines involving Medline, Excerpta Medica, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and Clinicaltrials.gov. All studies describing TAC technique use in the open abdomen were eligible for inclusion. Data were analyzed per TAC technique in the form of a meta-analysis. A total of 225 articles were included in the final analysis. A meta-analysis involving only randomized controlled trials showed that NPWT with continuous fascial closure was superior to NPWT alone for definitive fascial closure [mean difference (MD): 35% ± 23%; P = 0.0044]. A subsequent meta-analysis involving all included studies confirmed its superiority across outcomes for definitive fascial closure (MD: 19% ± 3%; P < 0.0001), perioperative (MD: -4.0% ± 2.4%; P = 0.0013) and in-hospital (MD: -5.0% ± 2.9%; P = 0.0013) mortality, entero-atmospheric fistula (MD: 22.0% ± 1.8%; P = 0.0041), ventral hernia (MD: -4.0% ± 2.4%; P = 0.0010), and intra-abdominal abscess (MD: -3.1% ± 2.1%; P = 0.0044). Therefore, it was concluded that NPWT with continuous fascial traction is superior to NPWT alone.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The research presented in this paper analyses the clinic-pathological manifestations and work-related health risks identified among outpatients treated in the hospitals of Rome and Buenos Aires. MATERIALS AND METHODS The occupational anamnestic data were collected between 2013 and 2014 through questionnaires with specific items aimed at detecting occupational diseases classified by target organ systems in outpatient clinics of cardiology, dermatology, physical medicine, ophthalmology, orthopedics, endocrinology (thyroid and gonads). An inferential statistical analysis was then carried out to evaluate the relationship between nationality, exposure to occupational risks and the prevalence and incidence of the selected pathologies. An univariate statistical analysis was performed for this purpose and, in the case of statistically significant results, a subsequent multivariate analysis was used to evaluate the incidence of occupational risk factors and nationality on the pathology diagnosed in conjunction with other confounding factors such as smoking habits and gender. The total sample consisted of 1090 subjects of both sexes. Risks were grouped into seven categories and diseases into 12 diagnostic groups. We analyzed the correlation between risks and diseases with respect to hospital outpatients and to the total sample then comparing Argentina and Italy's data. RESULTS Analysis of data revealed a higher prevalence of hypertension and dysmetabolic disorders for DSE (Display Screen Equipment) workers both in Italy and Argentina; however, multivariate analysis showed that smoking represents a confounding factor for this association. A higher prevalence of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) was found in the population samples of Rome and there appeared to be a correlation between eye disorders/defects and Argentine data source. CONCLUSIONS Our study suggests the usefulness of collecting occupational anamnestic data from outpatient departments to highlight possible associations between occupational risks, lifestyles and pathologies, so as to implement the appropriate prevention strategies.
