Abstract
In the present study, a magnetic ion-imprinted polymer based on n-allylthiourea in the presence of 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (MIIP-PAN) was synthesized, characterized, and applied in the preconcentration of nickel ions by dispersive magnetic solid phase extraction (DMSPE) with FAAS detection. For comparison, non-imprinted polymer (MNIP-PAN) and imprinted polymer without PAN were synthesized. The characterization of the polymers was performed by FT-IR, DRX, TEM, TGA, VSM, and BET. Selectivity studies were performed comparing the competitive adsorption of Ni2+ with other cations on MIIP-PAN and MNIP-PAN, achieving higher relative selectivity coefficients for MIIP-PAN than for MNIP-PAN and NIP. Under optimized conditions, the method provided a preconcentration factor of 76.70, detection limit of 0.25 µg/L and intra-day (2.06 - 2.33 %) and inter-day (1.82 - 4.90 %) precision. The developed method was applied to samples of water, teas, and chocolate powder, and its precision was evaluated through tests of recovery and analysis of certified materials.

Abstract
In the present study, a highly efficient analytical method based on preconcentration of tetracyclines (TCs) in water and milk samples using a magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer (Fe3O4/SiO2/MIP) synthesized by means of a novel semi-covalent synthesis for TCs and determination by HPLC-DAD was proposed. Fe3O4/SiO2/MIP showed specific superficial area of 216.0 m2/g, superior to Fe3O4/SiO2/NIP (non-imprinted material) (103.6 m2/g). Using the Fe3O4/SiO2/MIP, the magnetic dispersive solid phase extraction (MDSPE) for four TCs (chlortetracycline, doxycycline, oxytetracycline, and tetracycline) was based on the preconcentration of 40.0 mL of sample (pH 4.0) vortex-assisted with 10 mg of Fe3O4/SiO2/MIP during 60 s. The method presented a limit of detection (LOD) in the range 0.26-0.60 µg/L, and preconcentration factor in the range 52.3-87.4-fold for the TCs. The method was applied to determine TCs in samples of lake water and cow milk with recovery results ranging from 96.0 to 102.0 %.

Abstract
This study proposes the development of a new photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor for the determination of dopamine (DA) at nanomolar levels. The PEC sensor was based on a physical mixture of bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) with nanocomposite molecularly imprinted poly(acrylic acid) (MIP-AA) grafted onto MWCNTox by using the surface-controlled radical polymerization strategy with an INIFERTER reagent. XRD, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRE), SEM, TEM, and TGA were employed to characterize the materials. Photoelectrochemical analyses were carried out with GCE/BiVO4/MIP-AA sensor under visible light using a potential of 0.6 V, phosphate buffer (0.1 mol L-1) at pH 7.0, and modifying the GCE with a film composed of monoclinic BiVO4 at 3.5 mg mL-1 and nanocomposite MIP prepared with acrylic acid (MIP-AA) at 0.1 mg mL-1. The proposed method using the GCE/BiVO4/MIP-AA sensor presented a limit of detection (LOD) of 2.9 nmol L-1, a linear range from 9.7 to 150 nmol L-1 and it was successfully applied for analysis of DA in urine samples using external calibration curve yielding recovery values of 90-105%. Additionally, the proposed PEC sensor allowed DA determination without interference from uric acid, ascorbic acid, epinephrine, norepinephrine, and other unwanted interferences.

Abstract
The prompt and accurate identification of the etiological agents of viral respiratory infections is a critical measure in mitigating outbreaks. In this study, we developed and clinically evaluated a novel melting-curve-based multiplex real-time PCR (M-m-qPCR) assay targeting the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) and nucleocapsid phosphoprotein N of SARS-CoV-2, the Matrix protein 2 of the Influenza A virus, the RdRp domain of the L protein from the Human Respiratory Syncytial Virus, and the polyprotein from Rhinovirus B genes. The analytical performance of the M-m-qPCR underwent assessment using in silico analysis and a panel of reference and clinical strains, encompassing viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens, exhibiting 100% specificity. Moreover, the assay showed a detection limit of 10 copies per reaction for all targeted pathogens using the positive controls. To validate its applicability, the assay was further tested in simulated nasal fluid spiked with the viruses mentioned above, followed by validation on nasopharyngeal swabs collected from 811 individuals. Among them, 13.4% (109/811) tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, and 1.1% (9/811) tested positive for Influenza A. Notably, these results showed 100% concordance with those obtained using a commercial kit. Therefore, the M-m-qPCR exhibits great potential for the routine screening of these respiratory viral pathogens.

Abstract
A procedure of direct magnetic sorbent sampling in flame atomic absorption spectrometry (DMSS-FAAS) was developed in this work. Metal-loaded magnetic sorbents were directly inserted in the flame of the FAAS for direct metal desorption/atomization. Magnetic graphene oxide aerogel (M-GOA) particles were synthesized, characterized, and used as a proof-of-concept in the magnetic dispersive solid phase extraction of Pb2+ ions from water samples. M-GOA was selected because is a light and porous sorbent, with high adsorption capacity, that is quickly burned by the flame. Magnetic particles were directly inserted in the flame by using a metallic magnetic probe, thereby avoiding the need for a chemical elution step. As all the extracted Pb2+ ions arrive to the flame without passing through the nebulization system, a drastic increase in the analytical signal was achieved. The improvement in the sensitivity of the proposed method (DMSS-FAAS) for Pb2+ determination was at least 40 times higher than the conventional procedure in which the Pb2+ is extracted, eluted, and analyzed by conventional flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) via the nebulization system. The analytical curve was linear from 5.0 to 180.0 μg L-1 and the limit of detection was found to be 1.30 μg L-1. Background measurements were insignificant, and the atomic absorption peaks were narrow and reproducible. Precision assessed as a percentage of the relative standard deviation %RSD was found to be 17.4, 7.1, and 7.8% for 10, 70, and 180 μg L-1 levels, respectively. The method showed satisfactory results even in the presence of other ions (Al3+, Cr3+, Co2+, Cu2+, Fe3+, Mn2+, Ba2+, Mg2+, and Li+). The performance of the new system was also evaluated for Cd2+ ions, as well as by using other magnetic particles available in our lab: magnetic carbon nanotubes (M-CNTs), magnetic restricted access carbon nanotubes (M-RACNT), magnetic poly (methacrylic acid-co-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) (M-PMA), magnetic nanoparticles coated with orange powder peel (M-OPP), and magnetic nanoparticles covered with SiO2 (M - SiO2). Analytical signals increased for both analytes in all sorbents (increases of about 4-37 times), attesting the high potential and applicability of the proposed method. Simplicity, high analytical frequency, high detectability and reproducibility, low cost, and possibility of being totally mechanized are the most relevant advantages.

Abstract
Rapid transmission and high mortality rates caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus showed that the best way to fight against the pandemic was through rapid, accurate diagnosis in parallel with vaccination. In this context, several research groups around the world have endeavored to develop new diagnostic methods due to the disadvantages of the gold standard method, reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), in terms of cost and time consumption. Electrochemical and bioelectrochemical platforms have been important tools for overcoming the limitations of conventional diagnostic platforms, including accuracy, accessibility, portability, and response time. In this review, we report on several electrochemical sensors and biosensors developed for SARS-CoV-2 detection, presenting the concepts, fabrication, advantages, and disadvantages of the different approaches. The focus is devoted to highlighting the recent progress of electrochemical devices developed as next-generation field-deployable analytical tools as well as guiding future researchers in the manufacture of devices for disease diagnosis.

Abstract
A solid phase extraction-based (SPE) procedure for simultaneous preconcentration of five tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), amitriptyline hydrochloride (AMT), nortriptyline hydrochloride (NOR), doxepin hydrochloride (DOX), imipramine hydrochloride (IMI), and clomipramine hydrochloride (CLO) from water samples with determination by HPLC-DAD is proposed. Polymers were characterized by FT-IR, SEM, and thermogravimetric analysis. SPE-based methods were carried out by the preconcentration of 320.0 mL of TCAs at pH 7.0 (buffered with 0.01 mol L-1 phosphate buffer) through 70.0 mg of adsorbent packed into a SPE cartridge, followed by elution with 1.0 mL of ACN : MeOH : acetic acid solution (45 : 45 : 10% v/v). Higher preconcentration factors were obtained ranging from 117.9 to 372.2 and 207.1 to 396.1 by using poly(MAA-co-EGDMA) and poly(AA-co-EGDMA), respectively, yielding lower limits of detection (0.03 to 0.12 μg L-1) and (0.03 to 0.15 μg L-1). These outcomes show satisfactory detectability of SPE-based methods, with slightly better performance using poly(MAA-co-EGDMA). On the other hand, poly(AA-co-EGDMA) was able to preconcentrate TCAs in the presence of humic acid (7.0 mg L-1) without interference. The precision of methods assessed as RSD (%) was very similar, ranging from 1.7% to 16.3% for poly(MAA-co-EGDMA) and 1.7% to 13.4% for poly(AA-co-EGDMA). SPE cartridges packed with the polymers showed high reusability (52 cycles of preconcentration and elution) without losing adsorption efficiency. The methods were applied to determine TCAs in tap, lake, and stream water samples and the accuracy was attested by addition and recovery tests (86.7-116.0%), with determined nortriptyline ranging from 0.48 to 0.52 μg L-1 in lake water samples.

Abstract
This study describes the development of a new analytical method for cadmium determination in flaxseed flour based on ultrasound-assisted extraction combined with supramolecular preconcentration followed by thermospray flame furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. Cadmium from flaxseed flour was extracted by ultrasound-assisted radiation in acid medium (1.5 mol L-1HNO3) followed by liquid-liquid microextraction of the acid extractwith dodecanoic acid/THF supramolecular solvent using diethyl dithiophosphate as a chelating agent. The limit of detection and the analytical curve range were found to be 0.10 μg L-1 and 0.35 to 20.0 μg L-1, respectively. The cadmium concentration in the flaxseed flours was ranged from 0.11 ± 0.04 to 0.79 ± 0.03 µg g-1. The proposed methodis considered simpler, faster, low-cost, and environmentally friendly compared to procedures currently used for the determination of cadmium based on acid digestion and using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.

Abstract
The development of a novel molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (MISPE) method for simultaneous preconcentration of imazapyr (IMP), imazapic (IMZ) and imazethapyr (IMT) with determination by HPLC-PAD (High performance liquid chromatography - photodiode-array detector) is proposed. The polymer synthesis was performed using imazethapyr as template molecule and 1-vinylimidazole as functional monomer. The method is based on preconcentration of 100.0 mL of sample through 200.0 mg of molecularly imprinted poly(vinylimidazole-TRIM) (MIP-1VN) at pH 4.0, followed by elution with 2.0 mL of MeOH:CH2Cl2:HAc (34:62:4, v/v). The range of analytical curve (0.29-200.0, 0.21-200.0 and 0.15-200.0 µg L-1), limits of detection (0.09, 0.06 and 0.04 µg L-1) and preconcentration factors (92, 96 and 98) determined for the herbicides, IMP, IMZ and IMT, respectively, were greatly superior when compared with those ones obtained with commercial adsorbents. The analytical method was successfully applied to spiked surface water and rice samples with good results of recovery values (86-107%).

Abstract
The effectiveness of açaí endocarp as biosorbent for removal of Cd2+, Pb2+ and Cr3+ from single solute solutions was analyzed. The biomass of açaí endocarp was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy and determining the point of zero charge. The optimum conditions for adsorption process were obtained at solution pH 6.0 for Cd(II) removal, pH 5.0 for Pb(II) removal, and, pH 4.0 for Cr(III). Furthermore, the average optimum efficiency of biosorbent in the optimum conditions was 8, 20 and 12 g of biosorbent per litre of contaminant solution, respectively, for Cd(II), Pb(II) and Cr(III). The best dynamic equilibrium time was reached at 60 min and Langmuir's model had the best fit for Cd(II) and Cr(III) biosorption, indicating a monolayer adsorption. Freundlich's model exhibited the best fit for Pb(II) ion. Elution rates were low, indicating a strong metal interaction with the adsorbent's surface. Thermodynamic parameters showed a spontaneous and endothermal process in the case of Cd(II) and Pb(II) ions, but not for Cr(III) ion, which appears to be an exothermic process. Results show that the use of the açaí biosorbent may be a promising alternative for the remediation of polluted water, due to its low cost and highly availability.

Abstract
The removal of Cr3+ from water solutions by biosorbents from the rind, endosperm, and endosperm + episperm of the Jatropha curcas was evaluated. Adsorption tests were performed in batch systems for evaluating the influence of the solution's pH, adsorbent mass, contact time, initial Cr3+ concentrations, and solution temperature during the adsorption process. Kinetic, adsorption isotherm, and thermodynamic studies were performed to investigate the mechanisms that control adsorption. Ideal conditions for the adsorption process included pH of the solution of 5.5 and 8 g L-1 adsorbent mass, within 60 min time contact between adsorbent and adsorbate. Maximum adsorption capacities by Langmuir model for rind, endosperm, and endosperm + episperm of the J. curcas were, respectively, 22.11, 18.20, and 22.88 mg g-1, with the occurrence of chemosorption in mono and multilayers. Results show that the biosorbents obtained from J. curcas have a high potential to recuperate Cr3+ from contaminated water sources.

Abstract
In this study, a new method for the preconcentration of cadmium ions using modified aquatic macrophytes - Salvinia molesta as biosorbent in an on-line preconcentration system coupled to flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) was developed. The method is based on preconcentration of 20.0 mL sample at pH 3.75 through 35.0 mg of biosorbent at 10.0 mL min-1 and subsequent elution with 0.5 mol L-1 HNO3. A preconcentration factor of 31-fold, linear dynamic range from 5.0 to 70.0 µg L-1 (r = 0.9996) and detection and quantification limits of 0.15 and 0.51 µg L-1 were obtained. The characterization of the biosorbent chemically modified with NaOH and citric acid, was performed through FTIR and SEM measurements. The method precision was found to be 3.97 % and 1.48 % for 5.0 and 60.0 µg L-1 Cd(II) solutions, respectively. The applicability of method was checked by analysis of different kind of water samples and certified reference material.
