Primary adenosquamous carcinoma of the endometrium with glassy cell features. A diagnostic pitfall as a very rare tumour type in the endometrium

Primary adenosquamous carcinoma of the endometrium with glassy cell features (ASCGCF) is an extremely rare entity and to date, 16 cases of this entity have been reported in the literature. ASC-GCF is an aggressive histological subtype of cervical carcinoma with rapid growth and early metastases; however, very little is known about those originating from the endometrium as they are limited to only a few case reports. Herein, we report a case of primary adenosquamous carcinoma of the endometrium with extensive glassy cell features which posed a major diagnostic challenge by mimicking many entities with its histological diversity.

Morphology of the trigeminal ganglion: anatomical structures related to trigeminal radiofrequency rhizotomy

BACKGROUND

Trigeminal neuralgia is the most common example of craniofacial neuralgia. Its etiology is unknown and is characterized by severe episodes of paroxysmal pain. The trigeminal ganglion and its adjacent anatomical structures have a complex anatomy. The foramen ovale is of great importance during surgical procedures such as percutaneous trigeminal rhizotomy for trigeminal neuralgia.

OBJECTIVE

We aimed to identify the anatomical structures associated with the trigeminal ganglion and radiofrequency rhizotomy on cadavers and investigate their relationship with the electrodes used during rhizotomy to determine the contribution of the electrode diameter and length to the effectiveness of the lesion formation on the ganglion.

METHODS

Five fresh-frozen cadaver heads injected with red silicone/latex were used. A percutaneous puncture was made by inserting of a cannula through the foramen ovale to create a pathway for electrodes. The relationships between the electrodes, Meckel's cave, trigeminal ganglion, and neurovascular structures were observed and morphometric measurements were obtained using a digital caliper.

RESULTS

Trigeminal ganglion, therefore the electrode in its final position, shows proximity with important anatomical structures. The electrode was inserted posteriorly into the foramen ovale in all of the specimens and was located on the retrogasserian fibers. This study revealed that the electrodes targeting the ganglion and passing through the foramen ovale may cause a radiofrequency lesion due to the contact effect of the dura itself pressing on the electrode. Pushing the cannula beyond the petroclival angle may result in puncturing of the dura propria and moving further away from the target area.

CONCLUSION

The success of radiofrequency rhizotomy is directly related to the area affected by the lesion. Understanding the mechanism of action underlying this procedure will ensure the effectiveness, success, and sustainability of the treatment.

Cranial and Spinal Oligodendrogliomatosis: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Secondary leptomeningeal gliomatosis is a condition known as a result of invasion of the subarachnoid space or the ventricular system of primary intraparenchymal glioma. In this article, we present a 7-year-old boy presented with neck and back deformity and deterioration of gait. Cranial and spinal magnetic resonance imaging revealed lesions in the supratentorial and infratentorial areas, in the brainstem downward the spinal cord. Disseminated oligodendrogliomatosis is extremely rare and our case we present is the 24^th in the literature.

Lhermitte–Duclos Disease Mimicking Cerebellopontine Angle Tumor: A Case Report

Lhermitte-Duclos disease (LDD) is dysplastic gangliocytoma of the cerebellum, which is rare, tends to grow slowly, usually has good prognosis, and wherein the cerebellar cortex becomes thick and the central white matter is not observed. On MRI of the brain, it has hyperintense and hypointense presentations on T2- and T1-weighted scans, respectively. It has nonhomogenous contrasting pattern on T1-contrast scans. LDD can be seen unilaterally or bilaterally in the cerebellum. When the disease is located at the cerebellopontine angle, it can be mistaken for the tumors located in this region. Recurrence can occur postoperatively, which is rare. The present case is a rare one because the tumor was located at the cerebellopontine angle and radiologically mimicked cerebellopontine angle tumors.
