Abstract
MRS, including single-voxel spectroscopy and MR spectroscopic imaging, captures metabolites in high-grade gliomas. Emerging evidence indicates that 7T MRS may be more sensitive to aberrant metabolic activity than lower-field strength MRS. However, the literature on the use of 7T MRS to visualize high-grade gliomas has not been summarized. We aimed to identify metabolic information provided by 7T MRS, optimal spectroscopic sequences, and areas for improvement in and new applications for 7T MRS. Literature was found on PubMed using "high-grade glioma," "malignant glioma," "glioblastoma," "anaplastic astrocytoma," "7T," "MR spectroscopy," and "MR spectroscopic imaging." 7T MRS offers higher SNR, modestly improved spatial resolution, and better resolution of overlapping resonances. 7T MRS also yields reduced Cramér-Rao lower bound values. These features help to quantify D-2-hydroxyglutarate in isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 and 2 gliomas and to isolate variable glutamate, increased glutamine, and increased glycine with higher sensitivity and specificity. 7T MRS may better characterize tumor infiltration and treatment effect in high-grade gliomas, though further study is necessary. 7T MRS will benefit from increased sample size; reductions in field inhomogeneity, specific absorption rate, and acquisition time; and advanced editing techniques. These findings suggest that 7T MRS may advance understanding of high-grade glioma metabolism, with reduced Cramér-Rao lower bound values and better measurement of smaller metabolite signals. Nevertheless, 7T is not widely used clinically, and technical improvements are necessary. 7T MRS isolates metabolites that may be valuable therapeutic targets in high-grade gliomas, potentially resulting in wider ranging neuro-oncologic applications.

Abstract
PURPOSE Due to its pivotal role in the modulation of immune and inflammatory responses, the gut microbiota has emerged as a key modulator of cancer treatment-induced gastrointestinal mucositis. However, it is not clear yet how it affects radiation therapy-induced oral mucositis (OM). As such, this study aimed to explore the gut microbiota's role in the pathogenesis of radiation-induced OM in rats. METHODS AND MATERIALS Male Sprague Dawley rats were treated with 20 Gy x-ray radiation (Rx) delivered to the snout, with or without antibiotic-induced microbiota depletion (AIMD). OM severity was assessed, and tongue tissues were collected on day 9 and 15 postradiation for tissue injury and inflammatory markers assessment. RESULTS AIMD+Rx had a significantly shorter duration of severe OM compared with Rx alone group. Macroscopically, the tongue ulcer-like area was smaller in AIMD+Rx compared with the Rx group. Microscopically, a smaller percentage of the mucosal ulcer was observed in the dorsal tongue of AIMD+Rx compared with the Rx group. AIMD+Rx also had significantly lower levels of interleukin 6, interleukin 1 beta, and toll like receptor 4 in the tongue tissues than the Rx group. CONCLUSIONS The gut microbiota plays a role in OM pathogenesis, mainly in the recovery phase, through the modulation of proinflammatory pathways. Future microbiota-targeted interventions may improve OM in clinical settings.

Abstract
Curcumin, a principal component of Curcuma longa, has a long history of being used topically for wound healing. However, poor aqueous solubility of curcumin leads to poor topical absorption. Recently, gelatin based gel has been reported to overcome this issue. However, the release of curcumin from gelatin gel in the bioavailable or easily absorbable form is still a challenge. The present study reports the development of a composite gel prepared from gelatin, F127 and lecithin using temperature dependant gelation and loading of curcumin within it. Notably, the composite gel facilitated the release of curcumin entrapped within vesicles of ~400 nm size. Further, the composite gel exhibited increase in the storage modulus or gel strength, stability, pore size and hydrophobicity as compared to only gelatin gel. Finally, wound healing assay in murine model indicated that curcumin delivered through composite gel showed a significantly faster healing as compared to that delivered through organic solvent. This was also validated by histopathological and biochemical analysis showing better epithelization and collagen synthesis in the group dressed with curcumin containing composite gel. In conclusion, composite gel facilitated the release of bioavailable or easily absorbable curcumin which in turn enhanced the wound healing.

Abstract
Machine learning-based network intrusion detection systems have demonstrated state-of-the-art accuracy in flagging malicious traffic. However, machine learning has been shown to be vulnerable to adversarial examples, particularly in domains such as image recognition. In many threat models, the adversary exploits the unconstrained nature of images–the adversary is free to select some arbitrary amount of pixels to perturb. However, it is not clear how these attacks translate to domains such as network intrusion detection as they contain domain constraints, which limit which and how features can be modified by the adversary. In this paper, we explore whether the constrained nature of networks offers additional robustness against adversarial examples versus the unconstrained nature of images. We do this by creating two algorithms: (1) the Adapative-JSMA, an augmented version of the popular JSMA which obeys domain constraints, and (2) the Histogram Sketch Generation which generates adversarial sketches: targeted universal perturbation vectors that encode feature saliency within the envelope of domain constraints. To assess how these algorithms perform, we evaluate them in a constrained network intrusion detection setting and an unconstrained image recognition setting. The results show that our approaches generate misclassification rates in network intrusion detection applications that were comparable to those of image recognition applications (greater than 95%). Our investigation shows that the constrained attack surface exposed by network intrusion detection systems is still sufficiently large to craft successful adversarial examples – and thus, network constraints do not appear to add robustness against adversarial examples. Indeed, even if a defender constrains an adversary to as little as five random features, generating adversarial examples is still possible.

Abstract
Osteosarcoma is the most commonly diagnosed form of bone cancer. It is characterized by a high risk of developing lung metastasis as the disease progresses. Standard treatment includes combination of surgical intervention, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. However, the non-specificity of potent chemotherapeutic agents often leads to major side effects. In this review, we discuss the role of various classes of biomaterials, including both organic as well as inorganic in realizing the local and systemic delivery of therapeutic agents like drugs, radioisotopes and even gene silencing agents to treat osteosarcoma. Biomaterial assisted unconventional therapies such as targeted therapy, nanotherapy, magnetic hyperthermia, gene therapy, photothermal and photodynamic therapies are also being explored. A wide variety of biomaterials including lipids, carbon-based materials, polymers, silica, bioactive glass, hydroxyapatite and metals are designed as delivery systems with the desired loading efficiency, release profile, and on-demand delivery. Among others, liposomal carriers have attracted a great deal of attention due to their capability to encapsulate both hydrophobic and hydrophilic drugs. Polymeric systems have high drug loading efficiency and stability and can even be tailored to achieve desired size and physiochemical properties. Carbon-based systems can also be seen as an upcoming class of therapeutics with great potential in treating different types of cancer. Inorganic materials like silica nanoparticles have high drug payload owing to their mesoporous structure. On the other hand, ceramic materials like bioactive glass and hydroxyapatite not only act as excellent delivery vectors but also participate in osteo-regeneration activity. These multifunctional biomaterials are also being investigated for their theranostic abilities to monitor cancer ablation. This review systematically discusses the vast landscape of biomaterials along with their challenges and respective opportunities for osteosarcoma therapy.

Abstract
Subcortical volumetric changes in major depressive disorder (MDD) have been purported to underlie depressive symptomology, however, the evidence to date remains inconsistent. Here, we investigated limbic volumes in MDD, utilizing high-resolution structural images to allow segmentation of the hippocampus and amygdala into their constituent substructures. Twenty-four MDD patients and twenty matched controls underwent structural MRI at 7T field strength. All participants completed the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) to quantify depressive symptomology. For the MDD group, volumes of the amygdala right lateral nucleus (p = 0.05, r2 = 0.24), left cortical nucleus (p = 0.032, r2 = 0.35), left accessory basal nucleus (p = 0.04, r2 = 0.28) and bilateral corticoamygdaloid transition area (right hemisphere p = 0.032, r2 = 0.38, left hemisphere p = 0.032, r2 = 0.35) each displayed significant negative associations with MDD severity. The bilateral centrocortical (right hemisphere p = 0.032, r2 = 0.31, left hemisphere p = 0.032, r2 = 0.32) and right basolateral complexes (p = 0.05, r2 = 0.24) also displayed significant negative relationships with depressive symptoms. Using high-field strength MRI, we report the novel finding that MDD severity is consistently negatively associated with amygdala nuclei, linking volumetric reductions with worsening depressive symptoms.

Abstract
We report the design and construction of a simple, easy to machine high temperature oven for generating an atomic beam in laser cooling experiments. This design eliminates the problem of thermal isolation of the oven region from the rest of the vacuum system without using a glass or ceramic thermal break. This design simplifies the construction and operation of high temperature ovens for elements having low vapor pressure. We demonstrate the functionality of such a source for strontium (Sr) atoms. We generate a high flux of Sr atoms for use in laser cooling and trapping experiments. The optimization of the design of the metal thermal break is done using a finite element analysis.

Abstract
Cutaneous mucinoses refer to disorders with abnormal accumulation of mucin in the skin. Mucin is an amorphous material that is a part of the extracellular matrix in dermis. Cutaneous mucinoses could be primary or secondary. The latter is associated with systemic disorders such as autoimmune diseases, diabetes mellitus, paraproteinemia, or altered thyroid function. Here, we report an adult female patient with trauma-induced cutaneous focal nodular mucinoses on left-sided scapular region. Histology showed replacement of collagen bundles by mucinous deposits in superficial and mid-dermis. Mucinous substance was present in peri-eccrine location on Alcian blue staining.

Abstract
PEG coated vesicles are important vehicles for the passive targeting of anticancer drugs. With a view to prepare PEG decorated vesicles using co-assembly of block copolymers and lipids, here we investigated the microstructure of aggregates formed in mixtures comprising lipids (l-α-phosphatidylcholine) and block copolymers (Pluronic P123), in the polymer rich regime. DLS and SANS studies show that the structure of the aggregates can be tuned from micelles to rod-like micelles or vesicles by changing the lipid to polymer composition. Rheological studies on gels formed by mixtures of polymer and lipid suggest incorporation of the lipid into the polymer matrix. The encapsulation efficiencies of polymer incorporated liposomes for curcumin and doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX) are evaluated at different drug to carrier ratios. The pH dependent sustained release of both the drugs from the PEGylated liposomes suggests their application in the development of cost effective formulations for anticancer drug delivery.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Shutter-speed model analysis of dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging allows estimation of mean intracellular water molecule lifetime (a measure of cellular energy metabolism) and volume transfer constant (a measure of hemodynamics). The purpose of this study was to investigate the prognostic utility of pretreatment mean intracellular water molecule lifetime and volume transfer constant in predicting overall survival in patients with squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck and to stratify p16-positive patients based upon survival outcome. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cohort of 60 patients underwent dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging before treatment. Median, mean intracellular water molecule lifetime and volume transfer constant values from metastatic nodes were computed from each patient. Kaplan-Meier analyses were performed to associate mean intracellular water molecule lifetime and volume transfer constant and their combination with overall survival for the first 2 years, 5 years, and beyond (median duration, >7 years). RESULTS By the last date of observation, 18 patients had died, and median follow-up for surviving patients (n = 42) was 8.32 years. Patients with high mean intracellular water molecule lifetime (4 deaths) had significantly (P = .01) prolonged overall survival by 5 years compared with those with low mean intracellular water molecule lifetime (13 deaths). Similarly, patients with high mean intracellular water molecule lifetime (4 deaths) had significantly (P = .006) longer overall survival at long-term duration than those with low mean intracellular water molecule lifetime (14 deaths). However, volume transfer constant was a significant predictor for only the 5-year follow-up period. There was some evidence (P < .10) to suggest that mean intracellular water molecule lifetime and volume transfer constant were associated with overall survival for the first 2 years. Patients with high mean intracellular water molecule lifetime and high volume transfer constant were associated with significantly (P < .01) longer overall survival compared with other groups for all follow-up periods. In addition, p16-positive patients with high mean intracellular water molecule lifetime and high volume transfer constant demonstrated a trend toward the longest overall survival. CONCLUSIONS A combined analysis of mean intracellular water molecule lifetime and volume transfer constant provided the best model to predict overall survival in patients with squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitiligo is a multifactorial, autoimmune, depigmenting disorder of the skin where aberrant presentation of autoantigens may have a role. OBJECTIVES To study the association of two antigen-processing genes, PSMB8 and PSMB9, with vitiligo. METHODS In total 1320 cases of vitiligo (1050 generalized and 270 localized) and 752 healthy controls were studied for the PSMB9 exon 3 G/A single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), PSMB8 exon 2 C/A SNP and PSMB8 intron 6 G/T SNP at site 37 360 using polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Real-time PCR was used for transcriptional expression of PSMB8 and cytokines. Expression of ubiquitinated proteins and phosphorylated-p38 (P-p38) was studied by Western blotting. RESULTS Significant increases in PSMB8 exon 2 allele A (P < 2.07 × 10-6 , odds ratio 1·93) and genotypes AA (P < 1.03 × 10-6 , odds ratio 2·51) and AC (P < 1.29 × 10-6 , odds ratio 1·63) were observed in patients with vitiligo. Interferon-γ stimulation induced lower expression of PSMB8 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of cases compared with controls, suggesting impaired antigen processing, which was confirmed by accumulation of ubiquitinated proteins in both lesional and nonlesional skin of patients with vitiligo. Expression of proinflammatory cytokines - interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1β and IL-8 - was higher in the lesional skin. P-p38 expression was variable but correlated with the amount of ubiquitinated proteins in the lesional and nonlesional skin, suggesting that the inflammatory cytokine responses in lesional skin could be a result of both P-p38-dependent and -independent pathways. CONCLUSIONS The PSMB8 exon 2 SNP is significantly associated with vitiligo. Accumulation of ubiquitinated proteins in skin of cases of vitiligo suggests their aberrant processing, which may promote the development of the disease.

Abstract
The estimation of an inhomogeneous Poisson process (IHPP) rate function from a set of process observations is an important problem arising in optical communications and a variety of other applications. However, because of practical limitations of detector technology, one is often only able to observe a corrupted version of the original process. In this paper, we consider how inference of the rate function is affected by dead time, a period of time after the detection of an event during which a sensor is insensitive to subsequent IHPP events. We propose a flexible nonparametric Bayesian approach to infer an IHPP rate function given dead-time limited process realizations. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of our inference approach and suggest its ability to extend the utility of existing sensor technology by permitting more accurate inference on signals whose observations are dead-time limited. We apply our inference algorithm to experimentally collected optical communications data, demonstrating the practical utility of our approach in the context of channel modeling and validation.

Abstract
Quantum systems lose coherence upon interaction with the environment and tend towards classical states. Quantum coherence is known to exponentially decay in time so that macroscopic quantum superpositions are generally unsustainable. In this work, slower than exponential decay of coherences is experimentally realized in an atom-optics kicked rotor system subjected to nonstationary Lévy noise in the applied kick sequence. The slower coherence decay manifests in the form of quantum subdiffusion that can be controlled through the Lévy exponent. The experimental results are in good agreement with the analytical estimates and numerical simulations for the mean energy growth and momentum profiles of an atom-optics kicked rotor.

Abstract
We report the construction of a simple, light weight, and compact atomic beam spectroscopy cell for strontium atoms. The cell is built using glass blowing technique and includes a simple titanium sublimation pump for the active pumping of residual and background gases to maintain ultra-high vacuum. A commercially available and electrically heated dispenser source is used to generate the beam of Sr atoms. We perform spectroscopy on the 5s2S01→5s 5pP11 transition to obtain a well resolved Doppler free spectroscopic signal for frequency stabilization of the laser source. This design can be easily extended to other alkali and alkaline earth metals.

Abstract
Acne vulgaris is one of the most commonly seen conditions and the immunological link is a topic of active research. Recently, the Th17 pathway has been found to play a pivotal role in acne. The adaptive immune response toward Propionibacterium acnes leads to activation of Th17 axis. Consequently, the Th17 cytokines (IL-17, IL-1 β, IL-6, and tumor growth factor, in turn, activate the various pathogenic steps in acne. Drugs such as Vitamin D3 and isotretinoin which target the Th17 pathway may offer an additional pathway for their therapeutic response.

We report a case of mutilating keratoderma with alopecia and keratoses follicularis spinulosa decalvans (KFSD), which was initially diagnosed as ectodermal dysplasia and Olmsted syndrome but was revisited as a case of X-linked Olmsted (XLO) syndrome. We focus on this uncommon entity (XLO) to highlight the differentials of alopecia with palmoplantar keratoderma.

Abstract
An association of congenital diaphragmatic hernia, dandy walker malformation and nasopharyngeal teratoma is very rare. Here, we report a fourth case with this association where chromosomal microarray and whole exome sequencing (WES) was performed to understand the underlying genetic basis. Findings of few variants especially a novel variation in HIRA provided some insights. Abstract
BACKGROUND Long distance truck drivers and helpers constitute a high risk group for human immunodeficiency virus /acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS). Despite increasing awareness of HIV/AIDS and safe sex practices, they still have a high incidence of new cases of HIV. AIMS This study carried out at an ART (anti-retroviral treatment) centre in North India aimed to evaluate the sexual myths and misconceptions prevalent among long distance drivers and helpers. DESIGN This was a retrospective study carried out at apex ART centre. METHODS Data were collected retrospectively from ART records of 129 long distance Truck drivers and 68 helpers. Details of socio-demographic characteristics, contact with commercial sex workers (CSW'S), pattern of condom usage with CSW'S and factors influencing it were studied. RESULTS We found that a significant number of drivers and helpers had sexual contact with CSW's and out of these, 30% of drivers and 50% of helpers reported not using condoms and instead resorting to methods like washing genitalia after sex with battery water/urine to avoid getting HIV. There was no significant relationship between pattern of condom usage and educational status, marital status and age. We also found that certain myths like sex with young CSW's was less likely to cause sexually transmitted diseases (STD's) and HIV were also widespread. CONCLUSION Owing to continuing prevalence of such sexual myths, long distance truck drivers and helpers do not use condoms while having sex with CSW's as they feel that they can enjoy sex with CSW's and still stay protected against STD's/HIV. It is imperative that this battery water/urine antiseptic myth be specifically targeted for better HIV control in this high risk group.

Abstract
Cyclic dominance models, such as the classic rock-paper-scissors (RPS) game, have found real-world applications in biology, ecology, and sociology. A key quantity of interest in such models is the coexistence time, i.e., the time until at least one population type goes extinct. Much recent research has considered conditions that lengthen coexistence times in an RPS model. A general finding is that coexistence is promoted by localized spatial interactions (low mobility), while extinction is fostered by global interactions (high mobility). That is, there exists a mobility threshold which separates a regime of long coexistence from a regime of rapid collapse of coexistence. The key finding of our paper is that if zealots (i.e., nodes able to defeat others while themselves being immune to defeat) of even a single type exist, then system coexistence time can be significantly prolonged, even in the presence of global interactions. This work thus highlights a crucial determinant of system survival time in cyclic dominance models.

Abstract
A 22-year-old male presented to the Dermatology Department with bilateral plaque lesions distributed symmetrically over malar area, bridge of nose and upper eyelids progressing over 1 year 3 months. Lesion remained unhealed after antibiotic treatment. Microscopy and culture for fungal and mycobacterial infections were negative. The Mantoux test showed an exaggerated response and PCR was positive for Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex. Patient was treated successfully with anti-tubercular therapy.

Abstract
Most of the work on opinion dynamics models focuses on the case of two or three opinion types. We consider the case of an arbitrary number of opinions in the mean field case of the naming game model in which it is assumed the population is infinite and all individuals are neighbors. A particular challenge of the naming game model is that the number of variables, which corresponds to the number of possible sets of opinions, grows exponentially with the number of possible opinions. We present a method for generating mean field dynamical equations for the general case of k opinions. We calculate the steady states in two important special cases in arbitrarily high dimension: the case in which there exist zealots of only one type, and the case in which there are an equal number of zealots for each opinion. We show that in these special cases a phase transition occurs at critical values p(c) of the parameter p describing the fraction of zealots. In the former case, the critical value determines the threshold value beyond which it is not possible for the opinion with no zealots to be held by more nodes than the opinion with zealots, and this point remains fixed regardless of dimension. In the latter case, the critical point p(c) is the threshold value beyond which a stalemate between all k opinions is guaranteed, and we show that it decays precisely as a lognormal curve in k.

Abstract
Dynamic light scattering (DLS) has evolved as a fast, convenient tool for particle size analysis of noninteracting spherical colloids. In this historical review, we discuss the basic principle, data analysis, and important precautions to be taken while analyzing colloids using DLS. The effect of particle interaction, polydispersity, anisotropy, light absorption, and so forth, on measured diffusion coefficient is discussed. New developments in this area such as diffusing wave spectroscopy, particle tracking analysis, microrheological studies using DLS, and so forth, are discussed in a manner that can be understood by a beginner.

Abstract
SETTING Long-term care facilities in Canada, a low tuberculosis (TB) incidence country. OBJECTIVE To compare the impact and cost-effectiveness of three screening strategies for TB on entry to long-term care: no screening, screening for latent tuberculous infection (LTBI) using the tuberculin skin test (TST) or screening for active disease with a chest X-ray. DESIGN Cost effectiveness analysis. RESULTS With the LTBI screening strategy, the number needed to screen to prevent one active case was 1410 and the cost per case averted was Canadian $109 913. The number needed to screen to prevent one case using the active screening strategy was 1266, and the cost per case averted was $672 298. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that TB screening strategies on entry to long-term care are costly, with large numbers needed to screen. Screening with TST was more cost-effective than chest X-ray screening. Higher risk of reactivation of LTBI is associated with improved cost-effectiveness of screening. Short time horizons and test performance characteristics place limitations on screening programmes in this setting. Future considerations include the changing demographics of the institutionalised elderly.

Abstract
The molecular dynamics of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) micelle has been investigated using high-resolution incoherent quasielastic neutron scattering technique. Data analysis clearly shows presence of two distinct motions: whole micellar motion or global diffusion and faster internal motion of the SDS monomer. The global diffusion associated with the whole micelle is found to be Fickian in nature, and the corresponding diffusion coefficients are found to be consistent with those obtained from dynamic light scattering measurements. The internal motion is described with a model consistent with the structure of the micelle and which accounts for the flexibility of the chains. The SDS monomer consists of a head group, which lies on the surface of the globular micelle, and a tail that hangs from the head toward the center of the globule. Considering various factors like conformational changes of the SDS chains, bending, stretching of the chemical bonds, etc., the dynamics of the SDS molecules is successfully described by a model in which the hydrogen atoms undergo localized translational motion confined within spherical volumes. This volume increases linearly along the SDS chain such that the hydrogen atoms closer to the head group move within smaller spheres with lower diffusion constant than the hydrogen atoms away from the head group. This model is found to be consistent with the data over the whole temperature and concentration range. Diffusivity and the volume of the spheres are also found to increase with temperature. The effect of lowering the SDS concentration is found to be similar to that of increasing the temperature.

Abstract
The objective of the present investigation is to develop and characterize anionic mixed micelles of two biocompatible surfactants, Tween 80 (T-80) and sodium deoxycholate (NaDC), and evaluate their potential in the delivery of doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX), a cationic anticancer drug. The mixed micelles were characterized for their microstructure, intermicellar interactions, and doxorubicin binding ability by dynamic light scattering, small angle neutron scattering (SANS), viscosity, and optical absorption measurements. Salt-induced growth of the mixed micelles at different compositions suggests that both electrostatic interaction of the anionic bile salts and steric repulsion of the ethylene oxide groups in nonionic components are affected by the presence of electrolytes. Addition of bile salt molecules to T-80 micelles suppresses the salt-induced growth of nonionic T-80 micelles. SANS studies indicate that bile salt micelles are prolate ellipsoidal in shape, and the addition of T-80 transforms them toward a spherical shape. The anionic bile salt can successfully bind to the cationic drug doxorubicin. The in vitro cytotoxicity studies in various cancer cell lines revealed that DOX-loaded micelles have greater in vitro anticancer activity as compared to DOX solution, indicating their potential in pharmaceutical applications.
