First Measurement of Near-Threshold J/ψ Exclusive Photoproduction off the Proton

We report on the measurement of the γp→J/ψp cross section from E_{γ}=11.8  GeV down to the threshold at 8.2 GeV using a tagged photon beam with the GlueX experiment. We find that the total cross section falls toward the threshold less steeply than expected from two-gluon exchange models. The differential cross section dσ/dt has an exponential slope of 1.67±0.39  GeV^{-2} at 10.7 GeV average energy. The LHCb pentaquark candidates P_{c}^{+} can be produced in the s channel of this reaction. We see no evidence for them and set model-dependent upper limits on their branching fractions B(P_{c}^{+}→J/ψp) and cross sections σ(γp→P_{c}^{+})×B(P_{c}^{+}→J/ψp).

PROGNOSTICATION OF CLINICAL OUTCOMES AFTER STEMI: THE ROLE OF VASCULAR ENDOTHELIAL GROWTH FACTOR-A

Aim - to assess the role of Vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A), which plays a key role in angiogenesis, in prognosis after myocardial infarction. 62 patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), 51 (82.3%) male and 11 (17.7%) female at average age 58.63±8.90 years and 12 control group patients were enrolled to the study. Serum level of VEGF by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was determined. After a 6-month observation period afterinfarction angina were assessed. ROC-analysis revealed cut-off level of VEGF-A ≤172.4 pg/ml was determined on the 7th day of STEMI, which had became predictor of repeated coronary events after the 6-month observation period (AUC 0.697, sensitivity was 88,9% and specificity - 50.9%; 95% CІ 0.567-0.807, Р=0.0515). Multivariate logistic analysis determined that anxiety and depression were assessed with Taylor and HADS questionnaire associated with VEGF-A decrease in patients with STEMI (anxiety: OR 0.834, 95% CІ 0.726 - 0.959, Р=0.0107; depression: OR 0.741, 95% CІ 0.535 - 1.027, Р=0.0519. Anxiety and depression influenced on serum VEGF-A level decrease which indicates the lack of myocardial neovascularization after STEMI and makes a contribution to postinfarction angina development.

GEOMETRY: a software package for nucleotide sequence analysis using statistical geometry in sequence space

GEOMETRY is a software package for the analysis of nucleotide sequences using the method of statistical geometry in sequence space. The package consists of programs performing estimation of the average geometry of sequence quartets, analysis of positional variability and computer simulation of parallel and tree-like sequence divergence with user-defined parameters. It provides an independent tool for evaluation of the reliability of conventional phylogenetic trees and calibration of the time of sequence divergence. GEOMETRY may be of interest for all scientists engaged in the study of molecular phylogeny. The package is available by anonymous FTP from ftp.bionet.nsk.su, directory /incoming/molevol/geom.exe, and will be available from EMBL file server (URL: http://@www.ebi.ac.uk)
