Society of skeletal radiology position paper - recommendations for contrast use in musculoskeletal MRI: when is non-contrast imaging enough?

The following White Paper will discuss the appropriateness of gadolinium administration in MRI for musculoskeletal indications. Musculoskeletal radiologists should consider the potential risks involved and practice the judicious use of intravenous contrast, restricting administration to cases where there is demonstrable added value. Specific nuances of when contrast is or is not recommended are discussed in detail and listed in table format. Briefly, contrast is recommended for bone and soft tissue lesions. For infection, contrast is reserved for chronic or complex cases. In rheumatology, contrast is recommended for early detection but not for advanced arthritis. Contrast is not recommended for sports injuries, routine MRI neurography, implants/hardware, or spine imaging, but is helpful in complex and post-operative cases.

Isolated traumatic pectoralis minor tendon tear in a young adult diagnosed with MRI

This is a rare case of an isolated pectoralis minor partial-thickness tendon tear in a 24-year-old man who was involved in a major trauma. The purpose of this paper is to report the clinical signs, symptoms, cross-sectional imaging findings, and management of an isolated pectoralis minor tendon tear. Furthermore, this case represents a novel traumatic mechanism of injury, as opposed to the classic sports-related pectoralis minor tendon tear injury. The current limited body of literature on isolated pectoralis minor tendon tears is reviewed.

Antifungal suscepitibility profile of candida spp. oral isolates obtained from denture wearers

Denture stomatitis is an inflammatory condition that occurs in denture wearers and is frequently associated with Candida yeasts. Antifungal susceptibility profiles have been extensively evaluated for candidiasis patients or immunosupressed individuals, but not for healthy Candida carriers. In the present study, fluconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, terbinafine and 5-flucytosin were tested against 109 oral Candida spp. isolates. All antifungal agents were effective against the samples tested except for terbinafine. This work might provide epidemiological information about Candida spp. drug susceptibility in oral healthy individuals.
