Divergent process for the catalytic decarboxylative thiocyanation and isothiocyanation of carboxylic acids promoted by visible light

A divergent photoinduced selective synthesis of thiocyanate and isothiocyanate derivatives from readily available carboxylic acids was developed using N-thiocyanatosaccharin and a catalytic amount of base or acid. This molecular editing strategy allowed the functionalization of bioactive compounds. A mechanism for the transformation was proposed based on control experiments.

Crystal structure of the diglycidyl ether of eugenol

The diep­oxy monomer (DGE-Eu) was synthesized from eugenol by a three-step reaction. It consists of a 1,2,4-tris­ubstituted benzene ring substituted by diglycidyl ether, a meth­oxy group and a methyl­oxirane group. The three-membered oxirane rings are inclined to the benzene ring by 61.0 (3) and 27.9 (3)°. In the crystal, mol­ecules are linked by C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming layers parallel to the ab plane.

The diep­oxy monomer, C₁₃H₁₆O₄ {DGE-Eu; systematic name: 2-[3-meth­oxy-4-(oxiran-2-ylmeth­oxy)benz­yl]oxirane}, was synthesized from eugenol by a three-step reaction. It consists of a 1,2,4-tris­ubstituted benzene ring substituted by diglycidyl ether, a meth­oxy group and a methyl­oxirane group. The three-membered oxirane rings are inclined to the benzene ring by 61.0 (3) and 27.9 (3)°. The methyl­ene C atom of one of the two terminal epoxide rings is positionally disordered [refined occupancy ratio = 0.69 (1):0.31 (1)]. In the crystal, mol­ecules are linked by C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming layers parallel to the ab plane. The layers are linked by C—H⋯π inter­actions, forming a three-dimensional network.

[Qualitative and quantitative determination of amino-2 benzimidazole in aqueous medium by polarography (author's transl)]

Amino-2 Benzimidazole, a residue of the decomposition of some fungicides (Benomyl, Carbendazine, Thiophanate, Methylthiophanate), is measured by polarography in aqueous medium, with a platinium rotating electrode, for the exploration in potentials from +0.5 v to 1.4 v. The best conditions for the quantitative determination are investigated, the study according to pH is performed and the standard curve is given for concentrations from 10(-5) to 10(-3) M/l. The interaction of elementts found in tap water and in aquarium water is also investigated.
