Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Retinal sensitivity (RS) and gaze fixation (GF) assessed by retinal microperimetry are useful and complementary tools for identifying mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). The hypothesis is that RS and GF examine different neural circuits: RS depends only on the visual pathway while GF reflects white matter complex connectivity networks. The aim of the study is to shed light to this issue by examining the relationship of these two parameters with visual evoked potentials (VEP), the current gold standard to examine the visual pathway. MATERIALS AND METHODS Consecutive T2D patients > 65 years were recruited from the outpatient clinic. Retinal microperimetry (MAIA 3rd generation) and visual evoked potentials (VEP) (Nicolet Viking ED). RS (dB), GF (BCEA63%, BCEA95%) (MAIA) and VEP (Latency P100ms, Amplitude75-100 uV) were analyzed. RESULTS Thirty three patients (45% women, 72.1 ± 4.6 years) were included. VEP parameters significantly correlated with RS but not with GF. CONCLUSIONS These results confirm that RS but not GF depends on the visual pathway, reinforcing the concept that they are complementary diagnostic tools. Used together can further increase the value of microperimetry as screening test for identifying T2D population with cognitive impairment.

Abstract
Cladosporium spp. are among the most important plant pathogens, plant endophytes, insect parasites and human pathogens in nature. The aim of this study was to increase the speed and accuracy of Cladosporium spp. spore counting using UV-visible spectrophotometry based on the regression model in a water suspension. Spores of C. ramotenellum AM55, C. limoniforme Br15, C. tenuissimum K15 and C. cladosporioides Ld13 fungi were diluted in sterile distilled water several times. Spore concentration/ml (SC) was counted with a hemocytometer. The spectrophotometer visible light absorption (ABS) was measured under 14 wavelengths from 300 to 950 nm for each dilution. The results showed that the morphological variation of the spores greatly affect the determination of the suitable wavelength. 650, 750, 500 and 400 nm wavelengths had the highest coefficient of determination (R2) values respectively for C. ramotenellum AM55, C. limoniforme Br15, C. tenuissimum K15 and C. cladosporioides Ld13 on the linear regression model. R2 values were 0.9874, 0.9647, 0.8856 and 0.9711 respectively, for the 650, 750, 500 and 400 nm wavelengths. The linear equation of SC = 107 × ABS-133,040 with the highest R2 value of 0.9532 had the best fit under a combinatorial regression model where SC and ABS of all Cladosporium spp. were presented. The proposed linear regression models can be used under in vivo and in vitro conditions for medicine or plant pathology studies which certainly increase the accuracy and speed of the future experiments compared to the hemocytometer method.

Abstract
We aimed to determine whether statistical significant differences exist between the sets of results obtained from two devices used in our department for measuring brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs) and somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs). We obtained BAEP and median and posterior tibial nerve SEP values bilaterally in ten healthy subjects. The tests were performed on the same subject using two devices consecutively. The equipment consisted of a Nicolet Viking-IV (Nicolet, Madison, WI, USA) and a Viking Select (Viasys Healthcare, Madison, WI, USA), and the same recording electrodes and stimulator (auditory and electrical) were used without modifying any postural position of the subject. The stimuli and recording parameters were the same for both devices. We obtained 20 sets of data for each type of test. The Bland–Altman plots as well as the one-sample t-test or Wilcoxon signed rank test were used to compare data between the two groups of data sets. We found no significant differences between the sets of values obtained with the two devices. Our analysis indicates that the two devices are equal in recording all different variables of BAEP and SEP, which allows us to combine the BAEP and SEP data obtained from the two devices for follow-up studies involving quantitative statistical methods. This study received institutional approval (protocol number PRAG-154/2013).
