Abstract
The electron induced dissociation of condensed benzene (C6H6) in thin films deposited on a Pt substrate is investigated by electron stimulated desorption (ESD) of anions and cations. The desorbed yields are recorded as a function of incident electron energy in the range of 10 to 950 eV for a fixed film thickness of 2 monolayers (ML) and for a fixed energy of 950 eV, as well as a function of film thickness from 0.5 to 8 monolayers (ML) for anions, and from 0.5 to 12ML for cations. Both energy and thickness dependencies are discussed in terms of the three main mechanisms yielding positively and/or negatively charged fragments: dissociative electron attachment (DEA), dipolar dissociation (DD) and dissociative ionization (DI) processes. At the probed energies, DD is the major mechanism, while DEA is predominantly induced by secondary electrons from the Pt substrate. Desorption of the parent positive ion is strongly suppressed. Similar qualitative behaviours are observed for the energy dependence of both anion and cation ESD yields, while some discrepancies exist in the thickness dependence, including a very significant systematic magnitude difference found between such ions formation. An estimation of the effective DD cross-section including the desorption probability is obtained. Feasible mechanisms behind the observed energy and thickness dependences for anion and cation yields are proposed. These results highlight the need for further investigations to better understand the underlying processes of electron induced dissociation in condensed matter.

Abstract
Summary Background. Patch testing (PT) is used to identify substances that cause allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). However, the clinical effects of allergen restrictions following PT have not been thoroughly investigated. This study aims to assess the diagnostic accuracy of PT in patients suspected of having ACD. Methods. Prospective study. PT were performed in patients with clinical diagnosis of ACD. Patients with a positive PT (case group) had a strict restriction of the suspected substance for one month. In patients with negative patch testing (control group), allergen restriction was based in clinical history. Clinical reduction (CR) of at least 50% in disease activity (CR50%) after one month of allergen restriction was considered clinically relevant. Total control was defined as clinical reduction of at least 90% (CR90%). Results. From 400 patients, 66.2% had a positive PT. The sensitivity of PT to identify CR50% was 84%, specificity 47%, PPV 53%, and NPV 81%. Only 10.5% of patients achieved CR90%. Conclusions. The PT had moderate diagnostic accuracy. It could be useful as a screening, but a positive result should be confirmed with controlled allergen restriction. The low number of patients who achieved a 90% CR invites to reconsider the allergens included in PT and the mechanistic processes of the disease.

INTRODUCTION Treatment of metastatic vertebral fractures without neural compression is performed with percutaneous cementation techniques. The increase in intratumoral pressure by these techniques can send tumor cells into the bloodstream. To prevent this dissemination and improve pain treatment, ablation techniques have been introduced that would allow the creation of a cavity in the tumor prior to cementation or directly necrosing the metastasis when its size is small. MATERIAL We present the experience with ablation of two hospitals and two different ablation techniques. The first group used radiofrequency ablation (A) in 14 patients (26 vertebrae), 4 of whom underwent vertebral arthrodesis. The second group used microwave ablation (B) in 93 patients (129 lesions) without associated vertebral instrumentation. RESULTS In group A pain improvement in VAS was 7.7-2.6 at 6 weeks. There were no complications derived from the ablation. In most cases cementation was associated. In the group B pain improvement in VAS went from 6.8-1.7 at 6 weeks. Cementation was associated in all cases. There were no complications derived from the ablation. CONCLUSION The association of ablation techniques with vertebral cementation is a safe technique that significantly improves the patient's pain and can help control the disease.

Abstract
In this study, a complete and self-consistent cross section dataset for electron transport simulations through gaseous benzene in the energy range 0.1-1000 eV has been critically compiled. Its reliability has been evaluated through a joint experimental and computational procedure. To accomplish this, the compiled dataset has been used as input for event-by-event Monte Carlo simulations of the magnetically confined electron transport through gaseous benzene, and the simulated transmitted intensity has been compared with the experimental one for different incident energies and benzene gas pressures.

Abstract
Molecular iodine (I2) prevents oxidative stress and prostate hyperplasia induced by hyperandrogenism and reduces cell viability in prostate cancer cell lines. Here, we aimed to evaluate the protective effect of I2 and testosterone (T) on hyperestrogenism-induced prostate inflammation. Additionally, the effects of I2 and/or tumor necrosis factor (TNF) on cell viability and interleukin 6 (IL6) secretion were evaluated in a prostate cancer cell line (DU145). We also investigated whether the effects of I2 on viability are peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARG)-dependent. Castrated (Cx) rats received pellets of either 17β estradiol (E2) or E2 and T and were treated with I2 (0.05%) in the drinking water for four weeks. The experimental groups were sham, Cx, Cx + E2, Cx + E2+I2, Cx + E2+T, and Cx + E2+T + I2. As expected, inflammation was triggered in the Cx + E2 group (high inflammation score; increase in TNF and transcriptional activity of RELA [nuclear factor-kappa B p65 subunit]), and this effect was diminished in the Cx + E2+T group (medium inflammation score and decrease in TNF). The lowest inflammation score (decrease of TNF and RELA and increase of PPARG) was obtained in the Cx + E2+T + I2 group. In DU145 cells, I2 (400 μM) and TNF (10 ng/ml) additively reduced cell viability, and I2 reduced the production of TNF-stimulated IL6. The PPARG antagonist (GW9662) did not inhibit the effects of I2 on the loss of cell viability. In summary, our data suggest that I2 and T exert a synergistic anti-inflammatory action on the normal prostate, and the interrelationship between I2 and TNF leads to anti-proliferative effects in DU145 cells. PPARG does not seem to participate in the I2-induced cell viability loss in the prostate.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to validate dermatologic ultrasound as a complementary teledermatologic imaging modality in primary and tertiary care centers. METHODS Six primary care centers and 1 tertiary care dermatology department collaborated in the program. Images were sent through the institutional teledermatologic platform to the tertiary care dermatology department. At the reference hospital, ultrasound images and clinical data were received and registered by a physician trained in dermatologic ultrasound. An in-person consultation was scheduled to confirm the teleultrasound diagnosis. The time of response by the tertiary center, quality and size of the teledermatologic image, and concordance with the in-person diagnosis were assessed for each dermatologic lesion. RESULTS A total of 147 teleultrasound consultations with 143 patients (93 women and 50 men; mean age ± SD, 47 ± 23 years) were evaluated between June 2018 and January 2019. Nine teleultrasound consultations (6.1%) were not valid. Discordance between teleultrasound and the in-person diagnosis was evident in 6 of 138 cases (4.3%). Most cases corresponded to benign skin tumors (66.7%), followed by inflammatory skin lesions (15.9%), nonmelanoma skin lesions (13%), and other skin lesions (4.3%). All malignant tumors were detected (sensitivity, 100%), although 2 cases of benign lesions were telediagnosed as malignant (specificity, 97.8%). The positive and negative predictive values of a teleultrasound diagnosis of cutaneous malignancy were 90% and 100%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Asynchronous primary care teleultrasound combined with dermatologic ultrasound training at tertiary centers is an effective teledermatologic modality.

Abstract
Thyroxine (T4) promotes cell proliferation and tumor growth in prostate cancer models, but it is unknown if the increase in the triiodothyronine (T3)/T4 ratio could attenuate prostate tumor development. We assessed T3 effects on thyroid response, histology, proliferation, and apoptosis in the prostate of wild-type (WT) and TRAMP (transgenic adenocarcinoma of the mouse prostate) mice. Physiological doses of T3 were administered in the drinking water (2.5, 5 and 15 µg/100 g body weight) for 6 weeks. None of the doses modified the body weight or serum levels of testosterone, but all of them reduced serum T4 levels by 50%, and the highest dose increased the T3/T4 ratio in TRAMP. In WT, the highest dose of T3 decreased cyclin D1 levels (immunohistochemistry) but did not modify prostate weight or alter the epithelial morphology. In TRAMP, this dose reduced tumor growth by antiproliferative mechanisms independent of apoptosis, but it did not modify the intraluminal or fibromuscular invasion of tumors. In vitro, in the LNCaP prostate cancer cell line, we found that both T3 and T4 increased the number of viable cells (Trypan blue assay), and only T4 response was fully blocked in the presence of an integrin-binding inhibitor peptide (RGD, arginine-glycine-aspartate). In summary, our data show that the prostate was highly sensitive to physiological T3 doses and suggest that in vivo, an increase in the T3/T4 ratio could be associated with the reduced weight of prostate tumors. Longitudinal studies are required to understand the role of thyroid hormones in prostate cancer progression.

Abstract
Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disease worldwide. So, there is a need to identify AD early diagnosis and monitoring biomarkers in blood samples. The aim of this study was to analyse the utility of lipid peroxidation biomarkers in AD progression evaluation. Participants (n = 19) were diagnosed with AD at early stages (Time 0, T0), and they were re-evaluated 2 years later (Time 1, T1). Plasma biomarkers from AD patients were determined at both times. Some analytes, such as dihomo-isoprostanes (17-epi-17-F2t-dihomo-IsoP, 17-F2t-dihomo-IsoP, Ent-7(RS)-7-F2t-dihomo-IsoP), and neuroprostanes (10-epi-10-F4t-NeuroP) showed very high probability of showing an increasing trend over time. Baseline values allowed to develop an affordable preliminary regression model to predict long-term cognitive status. So, some lipid peroxidation biomarkers would deserve consideration as useful progression AD biomarkers. The developed prediction model would constitute an important minimally invasive approach in AD personalized prognosis and perhaps could have some interest also in experimental treatments evaluation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Differential diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a complex task due to the clinical similarity among neurodegenerative diseases. Previous studies showed the role of lipid peroxidation in early AD development. However, the clinical validation of potential specific biomarkers in minimally invasive samples constitutes a great challenge in early AD diagnosis. METHODS Plasma samples from participants classified into AD (n = 138), non-AD (including MCI and other dementias not due to AD) (n = 70) and healthy (n = 50) were analysed. Lipid peroxidation compounds (isoprostanes, isofurans, neuroprostanes, neurofurans) were determined by ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry. Statistical analysis for biomarkers' clinical validation was based on Elastic Net. RESULTS A two-step diagnosis model was developed from plasma lipid peroxidation products to diagnose early AD specifically, and a bootstrap validated AUC of 0.74 was obtained. CONCLUSION A promising AD differential diagnosis model was developed. It was clinically validated as a screening test. However, further external validation is required before clinical application.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The effect of primary androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) in patients with localized prostate cancer (PCa) has not been well documented. The objective of the present study was to analyze the outcome of tumors treated with ADT as primary therapy in the Spanish Prostate Cancer Registry (19.4% of the series). PATIENTS AND METHODS Patients were classified in three groups: 1) with low/intermediate risk clinically localized tumors; 2) with high risk and locally advanced (T3-4) tumors; 3) with metastatic tumors. Time to castration resistance and overall cancer-specific survival were analyzed. In non-metastatic tumors, survivals in patients treated with ADT were compared with data from patients who underwent local treatments from the Spanish Prostate Cancer Registry. RESULTS 703 cases were analyzed. There were significant differences in the time to castration resistance, which was lower in the group of metastatic tumors. During follow-up, there were 179 deaths (25.5%) of which 89 (12.6%) were due to PCa. After 3 years of ADT, only 14.6% of patients in group 1 had died (1% due to PCa), 20.5% in group 2 and 46.8% in group 3 (9.2% and 31.3% due to PCa, respectively). Cancer-specific survival was significantly worse in group 1 using ADT than radical prostatectomy or radiotherapy. In high-risk and locally advanced tumors, ADT also had a lower cancer-specific survival than local treatments. CONCLUSION A longer time until the castration resistance was observed in patients with well- and intermediate-risk localized tumors treated with ADT. Patients with metastatic tumors showed the shortest time to castration resistance.

Abstract
Absolute total electron scattering cross sections (TCS) for nitrobenzene molecules with impact energies from 0.4 to 1000 eV have been measured by means of two different electron-transmission experimental arrangements. For the lower energies (0.4-250 eV) a magnetically confined electron beam system has been used, while for energies above 100 eV a linear beam transmission technique with high angular resolution allowed accurate measurements up to 1000 eV impact energy. In both cases random uncertainties were maintained below 5-8%. Systematic errors arising from the angular and energy resolution limits of each apparatus are analysed in detail and quantified with the help of our theoretical calculations. Differential elastic and integral elastic, excitation and ionisation as well as momentum transfer cross sections have been calculated, for the whole energy range considered here, by using an independent atom model in combination with the screening corrected additivity rule method including interference effects (IAM-SCARI). Due to the significant permanent dipole moment of nitrobenzene, additional differential and integral rotational excitation cross sections have been calculated in the framework of the Born approximation. If we ignore the rotational excitations, our calculated total cross section agrees well with our experimental results for impact energies above 15 eV. Additionally, they overlap at 10 eV with the low energy Schwinger Multichannel method with Pseudo Potentials (SMCPP) calculation available in the literature (L. S. Maioli and M. H. F. Bettega, J. Chem. Phys., 2017, 147, 164305). We find a broad feature in the experimental TCS at around 1.0 eV, which has been related to the formation of the NO2- anion and assigned to the π*(b1) resonance, according to previous mass spectra available in the literature. Other local maxima in the TCSs are found at 4.0 ± 0.2 and 5.0 ± 0.2 eV and are assigned to core excited resonances leading to the formation of the NO2- and O2- anions, respectively. Finally, for energies below 10 eV, differences found between the present measurements, the SMCPP calculation and our previous data for non-polar benzene have revealed the importance of accurately calculating the rotational excitation contribution to the TCS before comparing theoretical and experimental data. This comparison suggests that our dipole-Born calculation for nitrobenzene overestimates the magnitude of the rotational excitation cross sections below 10 eV.

Abstract
Measurements of the total electron scattering cross sections (TCSs) from benzene, in the impact energy range of 1-1000 eV, are presented here by combining two different experimental systems. The first utilizes a magnetically confined electron transmission beam for the lower energies (1-300 eV), while the second utilizes a linear transmission beam apparatus for the higher energies (100-1000 eV). These cross sections have also been calculated by means of two different theoretical methods, the Schwinger Multichannel with Pseudo Potential (SMCPP) procedure, employing two different approaches to account for the polarization of the target for impact energies between 0.1 and 15 eV, and the Independent Atom Model with the Screening Corrected Additivity Rule including Interference effect (IAM-SCAR+I) paradigm to cover the 10-10 000 eV impact energy range. The present results are compared with available theoretical and experimental data, with the level of accord being good in some cases and less satisfactory in others, and some predicted resonances have been identified. In particular, we found a π* shape resonance at 1.4 eV and another feature in the energy region 4.6-4.9 eV interpreted as a π* resonance (2B2g symmetry), which is a mixture of shape and a core excited resonance, as well as a Feshbach resonance at 5.87 eV associated with the 3s (a1g) Rydberg state. A Born-type formula to extrapolate TCS values for energies above 10 000 eV is also given. This study provides a complete set of TCS data, with uncertainty limits within 10%, ready to be used for modeling electron transport applications.

Abstract
Using our magnetically confined electron transmission apparatus, we report the results of total cross sections (TCSs) for electron scattering from dichloromethane (CH2Cl2). The energy range of this study is 1-300 eV. Wherever possible, the present data are compared to earlier measured TCSs of Wan et al. [J. Chem. Phys. 94, 1865 (1991)] and Karwasz et al. [Phys. Rev. A 59, 1341 (1999)] and to the corresponding theoretical independent atom model with screening corrected additivity rule and interference term (IAM-SCAR+I) results of Krupa et al. [Phys. Rev. A 97, 042702 (2018)] and a spherical complex optical potential formulation calculation of Naghma et al. [J. Electron Spectrosc. Relat. Phenom. 193, 48 (2014)]. Within their respective uncertainties, the present TCS and those of Karwasz et al. are found to be in very good agreement over their common energy range. However, agreement with the results of Wan et al. is quite poor. The importance of the experimentally inherent 'missing angle' effect (see later) on the measured TCS is investigated and found to be significant at the lower energies studied. Indeed, when this effect is accounted for, agreement between our measured TCSs and the corrected IAM-SCAR+I+rotations calculation results are, for energies above about 3 eV, in good accord (to better than 8%). Finally, we observe two σ * shape resonances, consistent with the earlier electron transmission spectroscopy results of Burrow et al. [J. Chem. Phys. 77, 2699 (1982)], at about 2.8 eV and 4.4 eV incident electron energy, in our measured TCS.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this paper was to describe the process for accrediting a paediatric hospital emergency department to ISO 9001:2015 standards. The implementation process began in February 2015 and lasted 18months. MATERIAL AND METHODS The project started with the decision by the Head of Department to improve service quality. A Quality Committee was established with representation of the medical, nursing and administrative staff. Training sessions were held on quality management systems and ISO standards for employees. A meeting took place among members of the Emergency Department to define the main processes, and 14 were identified, documented and included in the processes map. Workgroups were then created to review and redesign the medical and nurse protocols. RESULTS Thirty-five medical and fifteen nursing protocols were incorporated into the management system, and quality indicators were established that allowed the whole process to be monitored. A risk register was created to record identified risks, their severity, likelihood of occurrence, and actions taken to prevent or reduce those risks. The Emergency Department underwent an external audit during June 2016, and was certified to the requirements demanded by the international ISO 9001:2015 standard. CONCLUSIONS The conclusion is that implementation of a quality management system on ISO and its certification is completely achievable, and has contributed to better patient management.

Abstract
En 191 individuos de la raza bovina criolla Hartón del Valle, se evaluó la infección por los protozoarios Babesia bovis y Babesia bigemina mediante PCR convencional, los polimorfismos del gen BoLA-DRB3,2* mediante PCR-SBT y la asociación entre ambos (Odds Ratio, OR). Los alelos fueron categorizados según su asociación en resistentes (R), susceptibles (S) o neutrales (N) a la infección y los individuos genotipados según la clasificación de sus alelos como: N/N, N/R, N/S, R/R, R/S y S/S. Ningún animal fue positivo a la infección por B. bovis y por tanto no se realizaron estimaciones de asociación. La infección con B. bigemina fue del 13,1%. Abstract
Los bovinos criollos presentan características adaptativas de importancia. Se ha propuesto que el desarrollo y/o progresión de la leucosis bovina tiene bases genéticas. En el presente trabajo se estudió la dinámica del virus de la leucosis bovina en el ganado criollo Hartón del Valle en condiciones de infección natural. En 93 animales Hartón del Valle (HV), 30 Lucerna (LUC) y 30 Holstein (HOL) se evaluó la presencia del VLB por PCR-anidada, el desarrollo de linfocitosis por extendido en placa, los títulos de anticuerpos usando ELISA y la carga proviral mediante PCR en tiempo real, en tres muestreos durante un año. Se estimaron los porcentajes de animales infectados y se realizaron pruebas de independencia entre las variables evaluadas. Se encontró un efecto racial significativo sobre el desarrollo de la leucosis bovina, los animales de la raza Hartón presentaron menor tasa de infección del VLB (38,3%), desarrollaron menos linfocitosis persistente (15%), tuvieron mayores títulos de anticuerpos contra el virus (97,6) y mantuvieron la carga proviral más baja (663828 copias/ng de ADN) que las razas Lucerna y Holstein. Los datos aquí presentados pueden ser utilizados en programas de erradicación y control de la enfermedad. Abstract
En Colombia, la gallina Criolla es socialmente importante por su aporte nutricional, fácil reproducción, adaptabilidad y rusticidad. Por lo tanto, ha sido necesario conocer cómo es su diversidad, relaciones y estructura genética. El objetivo de este estudio fue ccontribuir al conocimiento de la biodiversidad del país y al desarrollo agropecuario sostenible, mediante el estudio de la diversidad genética de aves criollas. Se analizaron 224 muestras de ADN de gallina Criolla colombiana provenientes de los departamentos del Cauca, Caldas, Chocó, Nariño y Valle del Cauca, y 20 de líneas comerciales, mediante 17 marcadores microsatélites, realizándoles extracción de ADN por el método de Salting Out y posteriormente amplificando por reacción en cadena de la polimerasa (PCR). El análisis estadístico para evaluar la diversidad genética se realizó a través de los programas ARLEQUIN v. 3.5, GENALEX v. 6.5, Microsatellite Toolkit y FSTAT. La estructura de las poblaciones se determinó por el programa STRUCTURE v. 2.3.4. Se encontraron 79 alelos para las poblaciones. El número promedio de alelos para la gallina Criolla fue de 4,65±1,66. Abstract
OBJECTIVES In 2006 the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) proposed new classification criteria for Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP). We aimed to establish the applicability of these criteria in patients with primary cutaneous vasculitis (CV). We also compared these criteria with previously established classification criteria for HSP. METHODS A series of 766 (346 women/420 men; mean age 34 years) consecutive unselected patients with CV was assessed. One hundred and twenty-four of them with secondary CV or with CV associated with other well defined entities were excluded from the analysis. The 2006 EULAR criteria for HSP were tested in the remaining 642 patients with primary CV. Two sets of criteria for HSP were used for comparisons: a) the 1990 American College of Rheumatology (ACR-1990), and b) the ACR modified criteria proposed by Michel et al. in 1992 (Michel-1992). RESULTS 451 (70.2%) of 642 patients were classified as having HSP according to the EULAR-2006 criteria, 405 (63.1%) using the ACR-1990 criteria, and 392 (61.1%) by the Michel-1992 criteria. However, only 336 patients (52.3%) met at the same time the EULAR-2006 and the ACR-1990 criteria, and only 229 patients (35.7%) fulfilled both the EULAR-2006 and Michel-1992 criteria. It is noteworthy that only 276 (43%) patients met the three set of criteria. Children fulfilled all the sets of criteria more commonly than adults (215 [66.6%] of 323 vs. 61 [19%] of 319, respectively; p<0.0001). CONCLUSIONS According to our results, the EULAR-2006 criteria show low concordance with previous sets of classification criteria used for HSP.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess the clinical spectrum of severe bacterial infections presenting as cutaneous vasculitis (CV) in a defined population. METHODS Unselected series of 766 patients with CV diagnosed at a single university referral center. RESULTS An underlying severe bacterial infection was diagnosed in 27 (22 men/5 women; mean age ± standard deviation [SD]: 53 ± 18 years) of 766 cases presenting with CV (3.5%). These infections were: pneumonia (n=8), endocarditis (n=6), meningitis (n=4), intra-abdominal infections (n=3), septic arthritis (n=2), septicaemia (n=2), septic bursitis (n=1), and urinary tract infection (n=1). All the patients were admitted for suspected CV. The median delay from admission to the diagnosis of infection was 4 days. A typical palpable purpura without relevant visceral vasculitic involvement was the main clinical manifestation. Patients with severe bacterial infections were older, with male predominance, had more frequently fever, constitutional symptoms, focal infectious features, and leukocytosis with left shift and anaemia than the remaining patients with CV. Although antibiotics were prescribed in all the patients, seven also required the use of low-dose corticosteroids to achieve complete resolution of the cutaneous lesions. Most patients experienced full recovery but two of them underwent prosthetic cardiac valve replacement, and another two died due to infection-related complications. CONCLUSIONS CV may be the presenting manifestation of a severe underlying bacterial infection. Physicians should keep in mind this fact to make an early diagnosis of infection and, consequently, prevent life-threatening complications.

Abstract
Con el objetivo de determinar el patrón en los horarios de ocurrencia de partos en la cabra doméstica del valle de México, se evaluó la información en registros de 832 nacimientos de 1991 a 1997 y del año 2000 al 2007. En la evaluación de la información se consideraron horarios diurnos (07:00-19:00 h) y nocturnos (19:00-07:00 h). Se utilizaron tablas de contingencia y modelos lineales, considerando la raza, el tipo de parto, el sexo y peso de las crías, así como la estación del año. La distribución de los partos durante el día no fue homogénea (p0,05). Se concluye que, en el valle de México, la mayoría de los partos (>80%) en la cabra ocurre en horarios diurnos, con una mayor incidencia entre las 11:00 y las 13:00 h.
