Abstract
Herein, we report the copper-catalyzed dehydrogenative C(sp2)-N bond formation of 4-pentenamides via nitrogen-centered radicals. This reaction provides a straightforward and efficient preparation method for γ-alkylidene-γ-lactams. Notably, we could controllably synthesize α,β-unsaturated- or α,β-saturated-γ-alkylidene-γ-lactams depending on the reaction conditions.

Abstract
We demonstrate that lithium hexamethyldisilazide (LiHMDS) acts as an effective base for deprotonative coupling reactions of toluenes with ketones to afford stilbenes. Various functionalities (halogen, OCF3 , amide, Me, aryl, alkenyl, alkynyl, SMe, and SPh) are allowed on the toluenes. Notably, this system proved successful with low-reactive toluenes bearing a large pKa value compared to that of the conjugate acid of LiHMDS (hexamethyldisilazane, 25.8, THF), as demonstrated by 4-phenyltoluene (38.57, THF) and toluene itself (∼43, DMSO).

Abstract
In this study, we demonstrated that 1-tert-butyl-2,2,4,4,4-pentakis(dimethylamino)-2λ5,4λ5-catenadi(phosphazene) (t-Bu-P2) catalyzes the defluorinative functionalization reactions of (2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)arenes with alkanenitriles to produce monofluoroalkene products. The reaction proceeds through HF elimination from a (2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)arene to form a gem-difluorostyrene intermediate, which is followed by nucleophilic addition of an alkanenitrile and elimination of a fluoride anion. The catalysis is compatible with a variety of functional groups.

Abstract
A transition-metal-free intermolecular coupling reaction of halocompounds with styrenes in the presence of NaH and 1,10-phenanthroline was developed. This reaction afforded hydrocarbonated products with complete anti-Markovnikov selectivity. The method allows the use of a wide range of halocompounds, including aryl and alkyl halides, and good functional group tolerance. Detailed mechanistic studies indicated that an anilide anion generated in situ by the NaH-mediated reduction of 1,10-phenanthroline works as an electron donor and a hydrogen source.

Abstract
Interest in developing methods for direct CO2 fixation into readily available unfunctionalized C-H bonds in organic substances has recently surged. In contrast to the well-studied carboxylations of alkynyl C(sp)-H and aromatic C(sp2)-H bonds, carboxylation of benzylic C(sp3)-H bonds to produce 2-arylacetic acids is limited to photoirradiation reactions and continues to be a challenging issue because of the low chemical reactivity. We herein describe that a combined Brønsted base (i.e., LiO-t-Bu/CsF and LiOCEt3/CsF) achieves benzylic carboxylation of electron-deficient, -neutral, and -rich alkylarenes and enables various functionalities, including fragile ones such as bromide, alkene, alkyne, and carbonyl moieties. Dicarboxylation at the benzylic position is also established. Cs-alkoxide generated in situ acts as a reactive base, as demonstrated in experiments with independently prepared CsO-t-Bu and by 133Cs nuclear magnetic resonance studies.

Abstract
Herein, we describe the copper-catalyzed aerobic C(sp3)-H functionalization of 2-alkylbenzamides for the synthesis of benzolactones. This reaction proceeds via 1,5-hydrogen atom transfer of N-centered radicals directly generated by N-H bond cleavage and does not require the synthesis of pre-functionalized N-centered radical precursors or the use of strong stoichiometric oxidants.

Abstract
1,2,3-Benzodiazaboroles can be conveniently prepared from azobenzenes by a two-step protocol involving electrophilic ortho-borylation with BBr3 and dialkylative cyclization with the Grignard reagent. The methodology provides a diverse range of products equipped with functionalities from azobenzenes containing substituents (Me, t-Bu, F, Cl, Br, I, and OCF3) and a series of Grignard reagents (alkyl- and arylmagnesium reagents). Moreover, this study displays the moderate aromaticity of the B-N-N-containing five-membered ring and mechanistic investigations of the cyclization reaction.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed aerobic 3-hydroxyisoindolinone synthesis was developed via the benzylic double C(sp3)-H functionalization of 2-alkylbenzamides. In this reaction, molecular oxygen was used as both an oxidant for C(sp3)-H functionalization and an oxygen source. Our method can be extended to diverse benzylic C(sp3)-H bonds and shows excellent functional group tolerance.

Abstract
Herein, we report an efficient and practical hydroiodination of internal alkynes using HI generated ex situ from the readily available triethylsilane and I2. This system offers high regio- and stereoselectivity to afford (E)-vinyl iodides in good yields under mild conditions. Furthermore, the hydroiodination reaction shows high functional group tolerance toward alkyl, methoxy, halogen, trifluoromethyl, cyano, ester, halomethyl, acid-sensitive silyl ether, and acetal moieties.

Abstract
The amide base generated in situ from tetramethylammonium fluoride and N(TMS)3 catalyzes the synthesis of 1,3-diene from an allylbenzene and carbonyl compound. The system is applicable to the transformations of a variety of allylbenzenes with functional groups (halogen, methyl, phenyl, methoxy, dimethylamino, ester, and amide moieties). Acyclic and cyclic diaryl ketones, pivalophenone, pivalaldehyde, and isobutyrophenone are used as coupling partners. The role of transβ-methyl stilbenes in product formation is also elucidated.

Abstract
The organic superbase catalyst t-Bu-P4 achieves nucleophilic aromatic substitution of methoxyarenes with alkanenitrile pronucleophiles. A variety of functional groups [cyano, nitro, (non)enolizable ketone, chloride, and amide moieties] are allowed on methoxyarenes. Moreover, an array of alkanenitriles with/without an aryl moiety at the nitrile α-position can be employed. The system also features no requirement of a stoichiometric base, MeOH (not salt waste) formation as a byproduct, and the production of congested quaternary carbon centers.

Abstract
Herein, the deprotonative functionalization of pyridine derivatives with aldehydes under ambient conditions has been demonstrated using an amide base generated in situ from a catalytic amount of CsF and a stoichiometric amount of tris(trimethylsilyl)amine (N(TMS)3). Pyridine substrates bearing two electron-withdrawing substituents (i.e., fluoro, chloro, bromo, and trifluoromethyl moieties) at the 3- and 5-positions efficiently react at the 4-position with various aldehydes including arylaldehydes, pivalaldehyde, and cyclohexanecarboxaldehyde.

Abstract
Biaryls are important compounds with widespread applications in many fields. Tetramethylammonium fluoride tetrahydrate was found to promote the biaryl coupling of aryl iodides bearing electron-withdrawing substituents with unactivated arenes. The reaction takes place at temperatures between 100 and 150°C and can be applied to a wide range of aromatic and heteroaromatic rings, affording the products in moderate to high yields. The reaction does not require strong bases or expensive additives that are employed in the existing methods and can be conducted in air and moisture without any precautions.

Abstract
We describe the catalytic amination of β-(hetero)arylethyl ethers with amines using the organic superbase t-Bu-P4 to obtain β-(hetero)arylethylamines. The reaction has a broad substrate scope and allows the transformations of electron-deficient and electron-neutral β-(hetero)arylethyl ethers with various amines including pyrrole, N-alkylaniline, diphenylamine, aniline, indole, and indoline derivatives. Mechanistic studies indicate a two-reaction pathway of MeOH elimination from the substrate to form a (hetero)arylalkene followed by the hydroamination of the alkene.

Abstract
We report that the organic superbase t-Bu-P4 efficiently catalyzes the amination of methoxy(hetero)arenes with amine nucleophiles such as aniline, indoline, and aminopyridine derivatives. This catalytic reaction is effective for the transformation of electron-deficient methoxyarenes possessing diverse functionalities (carbonyl, cyano, nitro, and halogen) as well as methoxyheteroarenes, including pyrazine, quinoline, isoquinoline, and pyridine derivatives. Intramolecular reactions provide six- and seven-membered ring cyclic amine products.

Abstract
We herein demonstrate that the combination of LiO-tBu, CsF, and [18]crown-6 efficiently promotes the direct C-H carboxylation of electron-rich heteroarenes (benzothiophene, thiophene, benzofuran, and furan derivatives). A variety of functional groups, including methyl, methoxy, halo, cyano, amide, and keto moieties, are compatible with this system. The reaction proceeds via the formation of a tert-butyl carbonate species.

Abstract
A method for the deprotonative silylation of aromatic C-H bonds has been developed using trifluoromethyltrimethylsilane (CF3SiMe3, Ruppert-Prakash reagent) and a catalytic amount of fluoride. In this reaction, CF3SiMe3 is considered to act as a base and a silicon electrophile. This process is highly tolerant to various functional groups on heteroarenes and benzenes. Furthermore, this method can be applied to the synthesis of trimethylsilyl group-containing analogs of TAC-101, which is a bioactive synthetic retinoid with selective affinity for retinoic acid receptor α (RAR-α) binding. We also report further transformations of the silylated products into useful derivatives.

Abstract
Pendant-type (P)-helicene oligomers with p-phenylene ethynylene main chains up to a tetramer were synthesized by a building block method. The (P)-tetramer reversibly formed a ladderlike bimolecular aggregate upon cooling and disaggregated upon heating in (trifluoromethyl)benzene. Two bis(tetramer)s, in which two (P)-tetramers were connected by hexadecamethylene linkers, were also synthesized. The head-to-tail bis(tetramer) formed an intramolecular aggregate, and the head-to-head bis(tetramer) formed an intermolecular aggregate in toluene. The results suggest the antiparallel aggregation structure of the pendant-type (P)-tetramers. The structure of the linker was proven to be effective in controlling intramolecular and intermolecular aggregations.

Abstract
Competition among multiple pathways in a chemical reaction exhibits notable kinetic phenomena, particularly when amplification by self-catalysis is involved. A pseudoenantiomeric 1 : 1 mixture of an aminomethylene helicene (P)-tetramer and an (M)-pentamer formed enantiomeric hetero-double helices B and C in solution when random coil A was cooled. When a solution of A at 70 °C was directly cooled to 25 °C, the A-to-B reaction was predominant, then B was slowly converted to C over 60 h. The slow conversion in the A-to-B-to-C reaction was due to the formation of the hetero-double helix B, which was an off-pathway intermediate, and the slow B-to-C conversion. In contrast, when a solution of A at 70 °C was snap-cooled to -25 °C before then maintaining the solution at 25 °C, the A-to-C reaction predominated, and the formation of C was complete within 4 h. The reactions involve competition between the self-catalytic A-to-B and A-to-C pathways, where B and C catalyze the A-to-B and A-to-C reactions, respectively. Subtle differences in the initial states generated by thermal pretreatment were amplified by the self-catalytic process, which resulted in a drastic reaction shortcut.

Abstract
Molecular switching is a phenomenon in which the molecular structure reversibly changes in response to external stimulation. It is crucial in biology and is used in various biological sensing applications and responses. In contrast to the well-studied molecular switching involving two or more thermodynamically stable states, switching involving metastable states exhibits notable non-equilibrium thermodynamic properties. Synthetic chiral helicene oligomeric foldamers that exhibit molecular thermal hysteresis in dilute solution are examples. Molecular switching can be used for sensing environmental changes, including temperature threshold, temperature decrease/increase, rate of temperature decrease, counting the numbers 1 and 2, and concentration increase.

Abstract
Molecular switching is the phenomenon in which a molecular structural change occurs reversibly in response to an external stimulus or energy. It plays an important role in biology, in which it is used for sensing environmental changes. In contrast to well-studied equilibrium molecular switching involving thermodynamically stable states, nonequilibrium molecular switching involving a metastable state is a notable chemical phenomenon and is the theme of this study. Sulfonamido- and aminomethylenehelicene oligomers show a reversible structural change from a double helix to a random coil in dilute solution. A metastable state consisting of random coils can be generated by heating, which shows various nonequilibrium thermodynamic properties. Molecular phenomena including molecular thermal hysteresis, molecular memory effect, and one-directional three-state molecular structural change occur, none of which is observed in an equilibrium molecular switching system. They can be applied to sensing environmental changes such as temperature increases/decreases, temperature change rates, and concentration increases, and for counting the numbers 1 and 2.
