Abstract
1,2,3-triazole skeleton is a valuable building block for the discovery of new promising anticancer agents. In the present work, the molecular structure of the synthesized anticancer drug 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)-2H-1,2,3-triazole-4-carboxylic acid (1b) and its anionic form (2b) was characterized by means of the B3LYP, M06-2X and MP2 quantum chemical methods, optimizing their monomer, cyclic dimer and stacking forms using the Gaussian16 program package. The molecular structure was found to be slightly out of plane. The good agreement between the IR and Raman bands experimentally observed in the solid state with those calculated theoretically confirms the synthesized structures. All of the bands were accurately assigned according to functional calculations (DFT) in the monomer and dimer forms, together with the polynomic scaling equation procedure (PSE). Therefore, the effect of the substituents on the triazole ring and the effect of the chlorine atom on the molecular structure and on the vibrational spectra were evaluated through comparison with its non-substituted form. Through molecular docking calculations, it was evaluated as to how molecule 1b interacts with few amino acids of the MMP-2 metalloproteinase receptor, using Sybyl-X 2.0 software. Thus, the relevance of triazole scaffolds in established hydrogen bond-type interactions was demonstrated.

Abstract
The 1,2,3-triazole derivative 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)-2H-1,2,3-triazole-4-carboxylic acid with potential anticancer activity was used as a ligand in complex formation with the lanthanum(III) ion. The molecular structure and vibrational spectra of the complex were optimized at three DFT levels, and the scaled IR and Raman spectra were compared to the experimental ones. Several scaling procedures were used. Through a detailed analysis, the structure predicted for the newly synthetized La(III) complex was confirmed by the good accordance of the calculated/experimental IR and Raman spectra. The best DFT method appeared to be M06-2X with the Lanl2mb basis set, followed closely by Lanl2dz. The effect of the lanthanide atom on the molecular structure and atomic charge distribution of the triazole ring was evaluated. The potential free radical scavenging activity of both the ligand and the complex was investigated in several radical-generating model systems. The potential mechanisms of antioxidant action (hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) and single-electron transfer (SET)) were elucidated.

Abstract
The molecular structure and vibrational spectra of six 1,2,3-triazoles-containing molecules with possible anticancer activity were investigated. For two of them, the optimized geometry was determined in the monomer, cyclic dimer and stacking forms using the B3LYP, M06-2X and MP2 methods implemented in the GAUSSIAN-16 program package. The effect of the para-substitution on the aryl ring was evaluated based on changes in the molecular structure and atomic charge distribution of the triazole ring. An increment in the positive N4 charge was linearly related to a decrease in both the aryl ring and the carboxylic group rotation, with respect to the triazole ring, and by contrast, to an increment in the pyrrolidine ring rotation. Anionic formation had a larger effect on the triazole ring structure than the electronic nature of the different substituents on the aryl ring. Several relationships were obtained that could facilitate the selection of substituents on the triazole ring for their further synthesis. The observed IR and Raman bands in the solid state of two of these compounds were accurately assigned according to monomer and dimer form calculations, together with the polynomic scaling equation procedure (PSE). The large red-shift of the C=O stretching mode indicates that strong H-bonds in the dimer form appear in the solid state through this group.

Abstract
The peculiarities of the optical properties of 2-aryl-1,2,3-triazole acids and their sodium salts were investigated in different solvents (1,4-dioxane, dimethyl sulfoxide DMSO, methanol MeOH) and in mixtures with water. The results were discussed in terms of the molecular structure formed by inter- and intramolecular noncovalent interactions (NCIs) and their ability to ionize in anions. Theoretical calculations using the Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory (TDDFT) were carried out in different solvents to support the results. In polar and nonpolar solvents (DMSO, 1,4-dioxane), fluorescence was provided by strong neutral associates. Protic MeOH can weaken the acid molecules' association, forming other fluorescent species. The fluorescent species in water exhibited similar optical characteristics to those of triazole salts; therefore, their anionic character can be assumed. Experimental 1H and 13C-NMR spectra were compared to their corresponding calculated spectra using the Gauge-Independent Atomic Orbital (GIAO) method and several relationships were established. All these findings showed that the obtained photophysical properties of the 2-aryl-1,2,3-triazole acids noticeably depend on the environment and, therefore, are good candidates as sensors for the identification of analytes with labile protons.

Abstract
Proton transfer reactions are a widespread phenomenon in many areas of the life sciences and it is one of the origins of the spontaneous point mutations during DNA replication. Because of its importance, many studies have been reported on these reactions. However, the present work is the first one focused on the structural geometrical changes by double proton transfer (DPT). Thus, different Watson-Crick (WC) pairs were optimized first in a simple model with one nucleoside base pair, and in a microhelix form with three nucleoside base pairs. The canonical and few tautomeric forms were considered in DNA:DNA microhelices with A-type and B-type helical forms. The stability of these structures and how the DPT process affects the main geometrical parameters was analyzed, in particular the deformation of the helical parameters. The M06-2X DFT method was used for this purpose. The purine/pyrimidine ring in the keto form appears easier to be deformed than when it is in the enol form. The weaker WC base pair formed with mixed microhelices than with nucleobases alone and the significant deformation of the helical and backbone parameters with the DPT appears to complicate this process in microhelices.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract
The effect of the sulphur atom on the uracil ring was analyzed in different DNA:RNA microhelixes with three nucleotide base-pairs, including uridine, 2-thiouridine, 4-thiouridine, 2,4-dithiouridine, cytidine, adenosine and guanosine. Distinct backbone and helical parameters were optimized at different density functional (DFT) levels. The Watson-Crick pair with 2-thiouridine appears weaker than with uridine, but its interaction with water molecules appears easier. Two types of microhelixes were found, depending on the H-bond of H2' hydroxyl atom: A-type appears with the ribose ring in 3 E-envelope C3' -endo, and B-type in 2 E-envelope C2' -endo. B-type is less common but it is more stable and with higher dipole-moment. The sulphur atoms significantly increase the dipole-moment of the microhelix, as well as the rise and propeller twist parameters. Simulations with four Na atoms H-bonded to the phosphate groups, and further hydration with explicit water molecules were carried out. A re-definition of the numerical value calculation of several base-pair and base-stacking parameters is suggested.

Abstract
The irradiation of gold nanorod colloids with a femtosecond laser can be tuned to induce controlled nanorod reshaping, yielding colloids with exceptionally narrow localized surface plasmon resonance bands. The process relies on a regime characterized by a gentle multishot reduction of the aspect ratio, whereas the rod shape and volume are barely affected. Successful reshaping can only occur within a narrow window of the heat dissipation rate: Low cooling rates lead to drastic morphological changes, and fast cooling has nearly no effect. Hence, a delicate balance must be achieved between irradiation fluence and surface density of the surfactant on the nanorods. This perfection process is appealing because it provides a simple, fast, reproducible, and scalable route toward gold nanorods with an optical response of exceptional quality, near the theoretical limit.

Abstract
An accurate assignment of the vibrational spectra of 4-Formylbenzoic acid in solid state was carried out. For this purpose density functional calculations (DFT) were performed to clarify wavenumber assignments of the experimentally observed bands for the first time. A scaling of the wavenumbers was carried out to improve the calculated values. Good reproduction of the experimental wavenumbers is obtained and the % error is very small in the majority of cases. The NBO analysis was carried out, and it reveals hyper conjugative interaction, ICT and stabilization of molecules.

Abstract
The FT-IR and Raman spectra of 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid (DNBA) have been recorded and analyzed. The equilibrium geometry, various bonding and harmonic vibrational wavenumbers have been calculated with the help of density functional theory (DFT) method. Most of the vibrational modes are observed in the expected range. Mulliken population analysis shows the interactions C-N-O⋯H-C and C-O⋯H-C. The most possible interaction is explained using natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis. The strengthening and polarization of the CO bond increases due to the degree of conjugation. HOMO-LUMO energy and the thermodynamic properties are also evaluated.

Abstract
Five monocyclic 4-benzoyl-4-phenyl-beta-lactam derivatives in carbon tetrachloride solutions were studied by FTIR spectroscopy. The Fourier self-deconvolution method was applied to enhance the resolution of the FTIR spectra. The calculated spectra of these five compounds, which were obtained by quantum mechanical methods, were compared with FTIR data. A complete assignment of the vibrational frequencies in the 4000-400 cm(-1) range was made. Several vibrations were selected as being useful to characterize the beta-lactam ring. Substituents on N1 (p-methoxyphenyl) and C3 (methyl, phenyl, maleimidyl, and phthalimidyl) on the beta-lactam ring increase the amide resonance and the planarity of the ring. The optimized geometry along with the total electric charges on the four atoms of the ring support an antibiotic action mechanism by a nucleophilic attack of the enzymes on the carbonyl carbon atom of the beta-lactam ring.

Abstract
This work describes the different scaling procedures used to correct the quantum-chemical theoretical predictions of the IR and Raman vibrational wavenumbers. Examples of each case are shown, with special attention to the uracil molecule and some derivatives. The results obtained with different semiempirical and ab initio methods, and basis sets, are compared and discussed. A comprehensive compendium of the main scale factors and scaling equations available to obtain the scaled wavenumbers is also shown.
