Abstract
We search for energetic electron recoil signals induced by boosted dark matter (BDM) from the galactic center using the COSINE-100 array of NaI(Tl) crystal detectors at the Yangyang Underground Laboratory. The signal would be an excess of events with energies above 4 MeV over the well-understood background. Because no excess of events are observed in a 97.7 kg·yr exposure, we set limits on BDM interactions under a variety of hypotheses. Notably, we explored the dark photon parameter space, leading to competitive limits compared to direct dark photon search experiments, particularly for dark photon masses below 4 MeV and considering the invisible decay mode. Furthermore, by comparing our results with a previous BDM search conducted by the Super-Kamionkande experiment, we found that the COSINE-100 detector has advantages in searching for low-mass dark matter. This analysis demonstrates the potential of the COSINE-100 detector to search for MeV electron recoil signals produced by the dark sector particle interactions.

Abstract
We present new constraints on the dark matter-induced annual modulation signal using 1.7 years of COSINE-100 data with a total exposure of 97.7 kg yr. The COSINE-100 experiment, consisting of 106 kg of NaI(Tl) target material, is designed to carry out a model-independent test of DAMA/LIBRA's claim of WIMP discovery by searching for the same annual modulation signal using the same NaI(Tl) target. The crystal data show a 2.7 cpd/kg/keV background rate on average in the 2-6 keV energy region of interest. Using a χ-squared minimization method we observe best fit values for modulation amplitude and phase of 0.0092±0.0067 cpd/kg/keV and 127.2±45.9 d, respectively.

Abstract
A search for inelastic boosted dark matter (IBDM) using the COSINE-100 detector with 59.5 days of data is presented. This relativistic dark matter is theorized to interact with the target material through inelastic scattering with electrons, creating a heavier state that subsequently produces standard model particles, such as an electron-positron pair. In this study, we search for this electron-positron pair in coincidence with the initially scattered electron as a signature for an IBDM interaction. No excess over the predicted background event rate is observed. Therefore, we present limits on IBDM interactions under various hypotheses, one of which allows us to explore an area of the dark photon parameter space that has not yet been covered by other experiments. This is the first experimental search for IBDM using a terrestrial detector.

Abstract
The COSINE-100 dark matter search experiment is an array of NaI(Tl) crystal detectors located in the Yangyang Underground Laboratory (Y2L). To understand measured backgrounds in the NaI(Tl) crystals we have performed Monte Carlo simulations using the Geant4 toolkit and developed background models for each crystal that consider contributions from both internal and external sources, including cosmogenic nuclides. The background models are based on comparisons of measurement data with Monte Carlo simulations that are guided by a campaign of material assays and are used to evaluate backgrounds and identify their sources. The average background level for the six crystals (70 kg total mass) that are studied is 3.5 counts/day/keV/kg in the (2-6) keV energy interval. The dominant contributors in this energy region are found to be 210 Pb and 3 H.

Abstract
Boron-based thermal neutron detectors have recently regained some attention from the instrumentation community as a strong alternative to helium-3 detectors. From the existing concepts exploiting boron layers in position sensitive detectors, the Cascade [1] is the one that takes full advantage of the 2D capabilities of gaseous detectors, with the position resolution not limited by the architecture of the detector. In this work, a proposal for the Cascade detector, based on Thick-GEMs is presented, together with some preliminary studies of the suitable pitch that optimizes the neutron conversion efficiency, while keeping the collection efficiency intact. The characterization of Thick-GEM prototypes produced in Brazil with hole pitch from 0.75 to 3 mm shows that these devices already present a stable performance at low gains, also resulting in fair energy resolution, when cascaded with a standard KaptonTM 50 µm GEM. Results of the first attempts of boron film depositions with Ion Beam Assisted Deposition and characterization by Ion Beam Analysis are also presented.

Abstract
When caring for of patients suffering from severe anorexia, medical teams may feel deprived in the face of the ambivalent behavior of some of these patients who accept medical care but refuse nutrition. We present here the case of a woman suffering from severe chronic anorexia with a state of morbid malnutrition, which presented the ethical question of how to deal with this unreasonable attitude. These extreme cases raise several questions regarding avoiding malfeasance and when to provide palliative care in a management of psychiatric pathology.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The end-point of this survey was to evaluate the number of patients in advanced or terminal phase of a life-threatening disease and hospitalised in the university hospital in Grenoble on a given day. The secondary end-points were determination of the profile of patients undergoing palliative care and the therapeutic charge they represented for the hospital in order to develop optimal medico-psycho-social responses adapted to the needs of this population, their family and friends and the teams of health professionals who treat them. METHODS The survey was based on a questionnaire including 106 items and one open question, filled-in by a physician and the nurses of the hospital, together with the interviewer. RESULTS Out of the 1495 patients hospitalised in the hospital centre (84% occupation), 114 patients were included in the study, i.e., 8% of the total number of patients present. Patients' mean age was of 70 (21<x<98); 40% were aged over 75. The principle motivation for hospitalisation was an acute medical problem (54%) followed by the impossibility of remaining at home (42%); 32% of the patients were hospitalised for a scheduled follow-up or treatment. The pathologies most frequently observed were cancer (61%) and neuro-degenerative disorders (28%). In our study, this category of patient exhibited a complex and heavy medico-psycho-social profile. It also revealed, when compared with a similar study conducted in 1996 at the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital, that the identification of an advanced or terminal phase of a disease was generally late and probably prohibited the patients, their families and the nursing staff from access to specific accompaniment. COMMENTS Our results demonstrate the need for palliative care unit (with beds) in large establishments such as the university hospital in Grenoble, in the centre of large towns. Although not all terminally ill patients require a specialised palliative care unit, we feel that the creation of such units will be mandatory in the years to come, if only because of public pressure or necessity.

Abstract
The O-specific side-chains of the lipopolysaccharide from Escherichia coli O86:K2:H2 have been investigated using n.m.r. spectroscopy, methylation analysis, and specific degradations, and shown to be composed of the pentasaccharide repeating-unit (formula; see text) which represents the biological repeating-unit. The blood-group B activity was confirmed by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

Abstract
Twelve bacteriphages lysing only smooth Salmonella typhimurium strains were shown to have similar morphology--an icosahedric head to which a short, noncontractile tail carrying six spikes was attached. All phages degraded their lipopolysaccharide (LPS) receptors as shown by their ability to cleave off [14C]galactosyl-containing oligosaccharides from S. typhimurium cells labeled in their LPS. The oligosaccharides inhibited the alpha-D-galactosyl-specific Bandeiraea simplicifolia lectin agglutination of human type B erythrocytes, indicating that all 12 phage glycanases were of endorhamnosidase specificity, i.e., hydrolyzed the alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 leads to 3)-D-galactopyranosyl linkage in the S. typhimurium O-polysaccharide chain. Two of the phages, 28B and 36, were studied in more detail. Whereas the phage 28B glycanase hydrolyzed the S. typhimurium LPS into dodeca- and octasaccharides, the phage 36 glycanase in addition cleaved off tetrasaccharides. Both phage enzymes hydrolyzed the O-polysaccharide chains of LPS from Salmonella belonging to serogroups A, B, and D1, which are built up of tetrasaccharide-repeating units identical except for the nature of the 3,6-dideoxyhexopyranosyl group (R). : FORMULA:(SEE TEXT). The phage 28B and 36 endorhamnosidases hydrolyzed also an LPS from which the 3,6-dideoxyhexosyl substituents had previously been hydrolyzed off. However, neither of the enzymes was active on LPS preparations in which the C2-C3 bond of the L-rhamnopyranosyl ring had been opened by periodate oxidation. Glucosylation at O-6 of the D-galactopyranosyl residues in the S. typhimurium LPS was found to be incompatible with hydrolysis by both enzymes. However, in an LPS glucosylated at O-4 of the D-galactopyranosyl residues, the adjacent alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl linkages were found to be perferentially cleaved.
