Abstract
AIMS Squamous cell carcinoma oral cavity cancers (SCCOCCs) have a higher reported incidence in South Asian countries. We sought to compare presenting stage and outcome by ethnicity in patients with SCCOCC treated with radical radiotherapy in a single centre in the UK. MATERIALS AND METHODS All patients with SCCOCC treated with radical radiotherapy at an oncology department in Leicester (UK) between 2011 and 2017 were identified. Baseline demographic, clinical data and 2-year treatment outcomes were reported. RESULTS Of the 109 patients included, 40 were South Asian and 59 were non-South Asian. South Asians had significantly poorer 2-year disease-free survival compared with non-South Asians (54.6% versus 73%, P = 0.01). CONCLUSION Our analysis suggests that South Asians with SCCOCC have poorer outcomes despite a younger age and similar disease characteristics. Environmental, social factors and differing biology of disease may be responsible and further research is required to inform targeted interventions.

Abstract
Strategies to improve T cell therapy efficacy in solid tumors such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are urgently needed. The common cytokine receptor γ chain (γc) family cytokines such as IL-2, IL-7, IL-15 and IL-21 play fundamental roles in T cell development, differentiation and effector phases. This study aims to determine the combination effects of IL-21 in T cell therapy against HCC and investigate optimized strategies to utilize the effect of IL-21 signal in T cell therapy. The antitumor function of AFP-specific T cell receptor-engineered T cells (TCR-T) was augmented by exogenous IL-21 in vitro and in vivo. IL-21 enhanced proliferation capacity, promoted memory differentiation, downregulated PD-1 expression and alleviated apoptosis in TCR-T after activation. A novel engineered IL-21 receptor was established, and TCR-T armed with the novel engineered IL-21 receptors (IL-21R-TCR-T) showed upregulated phosphorylated STAT3 expression without exogenous IL-21 ligand. IL-21R-TCR-T showed better proliferation upon activation and superior antitumor function in vitro and in vivo. IL-21R-TCR-T exhibited a less differentiated, exhausted and apoptotic phenotype than conventional TCR-T upon repetitive tumor antigen stimulation. The novel IL-21 receptor in our study programs powerful TCR-T and can avoid side effects induced by IL-21 systemic utilization. The novel IL-21 receptor creates new opportunities for next-generation TCR-T against HCC.

Abstract
Fly ash (FA) derived from municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) requires safe handling before landfilling due to its extremely high salt content and the risk of leaching heavy metals (HMs) under acidic conditions. Herein, aimed at improving the acid stability of dithiocarbamates, a cost-effective oligomeric dithiocarbamate (ODTC) was developed to stabilize HMs from carbonated MSWI-FA. Spiking of 3.6 wt% ODTC reduced the HM leaching below landfill standards in China, even across the pH range of 2.0-13.0 or 8-week exposure to the natural environment. Stabilization decreased the acid-soluble/exchangeable fractions of Cd, Pb, and Zn from 22.2%, 4.49%, and 21.9% to 0.14%, 0.11%, and 12.2%, respectively, resulting in safe levels for Pb and Cd with risk assessments. Compared to DDTC and SDD, ODTC exhibited higher stability under acidic conditions after chelation with the HMs, minimized the risk of HM leaching, and significantly reduced stabilization costs. In-depth studies proved that the stabilization mechanism involved the ability of ODTC to chelate HMs strongly and form acid-resistant ODTC-HM complexes, agglomeration of the MSWI-FA grains to encapsulate the ODTC-HM complexes, transformations of the HMs from acid-soluble species to stable oxidizable and residual species, and specifically ODTC reducing high-valent Pb to more stable Pb(II) species.

Abstract
Dasatinib-related resistance frequently occurs and may lead to the failure of chemotherapy; thus, dose interruptions are necessary. Cannabidiol (CBD) has potential for integration with orthodox cancer care. In this study, we explored the combination effect of CBD and dasatinib on A549 cells. CBD in combination with dasatinib could induce significant synergistic apoptosis in vitro (ZIP > 10) and in vivo. The combination of CBD and low-dose dasatinib exhibited antiproliferative and proapoptotic effects through up-regulation of caspase-3 and Bax, and down-regulation of Bcl-2 in A549 cells. The xenograft mouse model suggested that the combination was more efficient and safer. In short, CBD and low-dose dasatinib exhibited a synergistic effect on anticancer by targeting the SRC/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, suggesting a potential therapeutic option for the treatment of lung cancer.

Abstract
PURPOSE Ultrasound is the imaging modality of choice for preoperative diagnosis of lymph node metastasis (LNM) in thyroid cancer (TC), yet its efficacy remains suboptimal. As radiomics gains traction in tumor diagnosis, its integration with ultrasound for LNM differentiation in TC has emerged, but its diagnostic merit is debated. This study assesses the accuracy of ultrasound-integrated radiomics in preoperatively diagnosing LNM in TC. METHODS Literatures were searched in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and Web of Science until July 11, 2023. Quality of the studies was assessed by the radiomics quality score (RQS). A meta-analysis was executed using a bivariate mixed effects model, with a subgroup analysis based on modeling variables (clinical features, radiomics features, or their combination). RESULTS Among 27 articles (16,410 TC patients, 6356 with LNM), the average RQS was 16.5 (SD:5.47). Sensitivity of the models based on clinical features, radiomics features, and radiomics features plus clinical features were 0.64, 0.76 and 0.69. Specificities were 0.77, 0.78 and 0.82. SROC values were 0.76, 0.84 and 0.81. CONCLUSION Ultrasound-based radiomics effectively evaluates LNM in TC preoperatively. Adding clinical features does not notably enhance the model's performance. Some radiomics studies showed high bias, possibly due to the absence of standard application guidelines.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effects of sirolimus combined with anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody desensitization on the prognosis of patients with haploidentical stem cell transplantation (haplo-SCT). Methods: Fifteen consecutive patients who received haplo-SCT and pre-transplant donor specific anti-human leukocyte antigen (HLA) antibody (DSA) positive [mean fluorescence intensity (MFI)≥2 000] in the Institute of Hematological Diseases from November 2021 to March 2023 were retrospectively recruited into the desensitized group. There were 4 males and 11 females, with a median age [M(Q1, Q3)] of 48 (37, 59) years. All patients were desensitized with sirolimus combined with anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody. The non-desensitized group included 29 patients with haplo-SCT who had not received desensitization treatment from August 2012 to June 2016. There were 12 males and 17 females with a median age of 42 (26, 50) years. Up to October 1, 2023, the median follow-up time was 13 (9, 18) months in the study group and 23 (14, 29) months in the control group. The changes of MFI before and after desensitization treatment and the prognosis of patients in the desensitized group were compared, including the incidence of primary implantation failure (pGF), neutrophil implantation time, platelet implantation time, grade Ⅱ-Ⅳ acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and chronic GVHD incidence, non-recurrence related mortality, event-free survival rate, disease-free survival rate and overall survival rate. The survival curve was drawn by Kaplan-Meier method, and the survival rate between groups was compared with Log-rank test. Results: After desensitization treatment, the level of DSA MFI in the desensitized group decreased from 8 879 (7 544, 11 495) to 3 781 (1 638, 4 165) after desensitization treatment (P<0.01). All of the patients achieved hematopoietic recovery, and the median time for neutrophil and platelet engraftment were 14 (11, 15) and 20 (18, 25) days, respectively. The incidence of pGF in the desensitized group was 0, which was lower than that in the non-desensitized group (34.5%, 10/29) (P=0.011). The expected 1-year disease-free survival rate and overall survival rate in the desensitized group were 100% (15/15) and 100% (15/15) respectively, while those in the non-desensitized group were 75.9% (22/29) and 75.9% (22/29) respectively, the difference was not statistically significant (both P>0.05). The one-year event-free survival rate in the desensitized group was expected to be 100% (15/15), which was higher than that in the non-desensitized group (51.3%, 15/29) (P=0.002). Conclusion: Sirolimus combined with anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody desensitization therapy can reduce the DSA level of haplo-SCT recipients, promote hematopoietic engraftment after transplantation, and avoid the occurrence of pGF after transplantation.

Abstract
Wheat seed detection has important applications in calculating thousand-grain weight and crop breeding. In order to solve the problems of seed accumulation, adhesion, and occlusion that can lead to low counting accuracy, while ensuring fast detection speed with high accuracy, a wheat seed counting method is proposed to provide technical support for the development of the embedded platform of the seed counter. This study proposes a lightweight real-time wheat seed detection model, YOLOv8-HD, based on YOLOv8. Firstly, we introduce the concept of shared convolutional layers to improve the YOLOv8 detection head, reducing the number of parameters and achieving a lightweight design to improve runtime speed. Secondly, we incorporate the Vision Transformer with a Deformable Attention mechanism into the C2f module of the backbone network to enhance the network's feature extraction capability and improve detection accuracy. The results show that in the stacked scenes with impurities (severe seed adhesion), the YOLOv8-HD model achieves an average detection accuracy (mAP) of 77.6%, which is 9.1% higher than YOLOv8. In all scenes, the YOLOv8-HD model achieves an average detection accuracy (mAP) of 99.3%, which is 16.8% higher than YOLOv8. The memory size of the YOLOv8-HD model is 6.35 MB, approximately 4/5 of YOLOv8. The GFLOPs of YOLOv8-HD decrease by 16%. The inference time of YOLOv8-HD is 2.86 ms (on GPU), which is lower than YOLOv8. Finally, we conducted numerous experiments and the results showed that YOLOv8-HD outperforms other mainstream networks in terms of mAP, speed, and model size. Therefore, our YOLOv8-HD can efficiently detect wheat seeds in various scenarios, providing technical support for the development of seed counting instruments.

Abstract
Exophiala dermatitidis is a relatively common environmental black yeast with a worldwide distribution that rarely causes fungal infection. Here, we report a case of a 6-year-old girl with central nervous system (CNS) encephalitis caused by E. dermatitidis and Angiostrongylus cantonensis. E. dermatitidis was identified by both cerebrospinal fluid culture and metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS). Angiostrongylus cantonensis infection was confirmed by an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Whole exome sequencing showed that this previously healthy girl carried a homozygous CARD9 mutation for c.820dupG (p.D274Gfs*61) that underlies invasive fungal and parasite infections. We chose glucocortieoid pulse therapy and anti-infective therapy based on the initial results of laboratory examination and cranial MRI images. With the aggravation of the disease and the evidence of the subsequent etiologic test, the combination of antifungal antiparasitic treatments (voriconazole, fluorocytosine and amphotericin B) were actively used. Unfortunately, the girl finally died due to severe systemic infection. mNGS performs a potential value for diagnosing rare CNS infections, and autosomal recessive CARD9 deficiency should be considered in patient with fatal invasive fungal infections.

Abstract
Within various unstructured industrial environments, there is often the requirement to conduct remote engineering tasks, such as sampling the structure for analysis prior to decommissioning. Most existing tools are simply not dexterous enough to fulfil this task, and thus new technology is required. We describe here a simple, lightweight, and water-resistant collaborative dual-arm continuum robot system which can aid in this task. To improve the kinematic accuracy of the system, a class of flexible hinges have been combined with a conventional continuum robot configuration. The thickness and width of said flexible hinges can be adjusted to adapt to various tasks. Kinematic and stiffness models have further been developed, incorporating the influence of these flexible hinges. A set of experiments have been conducted to validate the proposed model and demonstrate the advantages of the platform. It was found that the kinematic accuracy of the continuum robot can be improved by a factor of around 10 with the aid of said hinges.

Abstract
T-cell receptor (TCR) engineered T-cell therapy has recently emerged as a promising adoptive immunotherapy approach for tumor treatment, yet hindered by tumor immune evasion resulting in poor therapeutic efficacy. The introduction of ferroptosis-targeted inducers offers a potential solution, as they empower T cells to induce ferroptosis and exert influence over the tumor microenvironment. Atovaquone (ATO) stands as a prospective pharmaceutical candidate with the potential to target ferroptosis, effectively provoking an excessive generation and accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness of a combination therapy comprising ATO and TCR-T cells against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), both in vitro and in vivo. The results of lactate dehydrogenase and cytokine assays demonstrated that ATO enhanced cytotoxicity mediated by AFP-specific TCR-T cells and promoted the release of IFN-γ in vitro. Additionally, in an established HCC xenograft mouse model, the combined therapy with low-dose ATO and TCR-T cells exhibited heightened efficacy in suppressing tumor growth, with no apparent adverse effects, comparable to the results achieved through monotherapy. The RNA-seq data unveiled a significant activation of the ferroptosis-related pathway in the combination therapy group in comparison to the TCR-T cells group. Mechanistically, the synergy between ATO and TCR-T cells augmented the release of IFN-γ by TCR-T cells, while concurrently elevating the intracellular and mitochondrial levels of ROS, expanding the labile iron pool, and impairing the integrity of the mitochondrial membrane in HepG2 cells. This multifaceted interaction culminated in the potentiation of ferroptosis within the tumor, primarily induced by an excess of ROS. In summary, the co-administration of ATO and TCR-T cells in HCC exhibited heightened vulnerability to ferroptosis. This heightened susceptibility led to the inhibition of tumor growth and the stimulation of an anti-tumor immune response. These findings suggest that repurposing atovaquone for adoptive cell therapy combination therapy holds the potential to enhance treatment outcomes in HCC.

Abstract
Colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) are considered a promising material for the next generation of integrated display devices due to their designable optical bandgap and low energy consumption. Owing to their dispersibility in solvents, CQD micro/nanostructures are generally fabricated by solution-processing methods. However, the random mass transfer in liquid restricts the programmable construction in macroscopy and ordered assembly in microscopy for the integration of CQD optical structures. Herein, a multi-interfacial confined assembly strategy is developed to fabricate CQDs programmable microstructure arrays with a quasisuperlattice configuration through controlling the dynamics of three-phase contact lines (TPCLs). The motion of TPCLs dominates the division of liquid film for precise positioning of CQD microstructures, while pinned TPCLs control the solvent evaporation and concentration gradient to directionally drive the mass transfer and packing of CQDs. Owing to their long-range order and adjustable structural dimensions, CQD microring arrays function as high-quality-factor (high-Q) lasing resonant cavities with low thresholds and tunable lasing emission modes. Through the further surface treatment and liquid dynamics control, the on-chip integration of red (R), green (G), and blue (B) multicomponent CQD microlaser arrays are demonstrated. The technique establishes a new route to fabricate large-area, ultrahigh-definition, and full-color CQD laser displays.

Abstract
Prenatal cell-free DNA (cfDNA) screening uses extracellular fetal DNA circulating in the peripheral blood of pregnant women to detect prevalent fetal chromosomal anomalies. However, numerous severe conditions with underlying single-gene defects are not included in current prenatal cfDNA screening. In this prospective, multicenter and observational study, pregnant women at elevated risk for fetal genetic conditions were enrolled for a cfDNA screening test based on coordinative allele-aware target enrichment sequencing. This test encompasses the following three of the most frequent pathogenic genetic variations: aneuploidies, microdeletions and monogenic variants. The cfDNA screening results were compared to invasive prenatal or postnatal diagnostic test results for 1,090 qualified participants. The comprehensive cfDNA screening detected a genetic alteration in 135 pregnancies with 98.5% sensitivity and 99.3% specificity relative to standard diagnostics. Of 876 fetuses with suspected structural anomalies on ultrasound examination, comprehensive cfDNA screening identified 55 (56.1%) aneuploidies, 6 (6.1%) microdeletions and 37 (37.8%) single-gene pathogenic variants. The inclusion of targeted monogenic conditions alongside chromosomal aberrations led to a 60.7% increase (from 61 to 98) in the detection rate. Overall, these data provide preliminary evidence that a comprehensive cfDNA screening test can accurately identify fetal pathogenic variants at both the chromosome and single-gene levels in high-risk pregnancies through a noninvasive approach, which has the potential to improve prenatal evaluation of fetal risks for severe genetic conditions arising from heterogenous molecular etiologies. Abstract
A fundamental understanding of the electroanalytical activity of transition metal sulfide electrocatalysts, especially the origin of the electrocatalytic reactivity on the surface sites of heterostructures with multiple crystalline phases, is essential for the design of low-cost and highly efficient nonprecious metal electrocatalysts for further scientific and technological achievements. Herein, we injected P into NiS and occupied the S sites through a doping strategy. The redistributed electronic structure induced the construction of heterostructures, which significantly improved the structure and chemical state of electrochemically inert NiS. The phase-change mechanism between NiS and NiS2 synergistically catalyzes Pb(II), while the P and S sites jointly lose electrons. Moreover, the constructed heterojunction sensor shows the a sensitivity of 83.43 μA μM-1 to Pb(II) with a theoretical limit of detection of 48 nM, as well as excellent stability, reproducibility, and anti-interference ability. The accurate detection in real water further reveals the potential of this sensor for practical applications. This study provides a guiding strategy for improving electrochemically inert materials to design highly active electrocatalytic interfaces, which has important implications for the development of highly efficient electrode-sensitive materials similar to precious metals to achieve accurate electrical analysis.

Abstract
A single metal-organic framework (MOF) exhibits some drawbacks in deep adsorptive desulfurization such as insufficient functional active sites, water instability, low surface area, etc. Herein, a dual-amino-functionalized (ZIF-8-NH2)-PVP-(Cu-BTC-NH2) core-shell dual MOF adsorbent was first synthesized by the hydrothermal growth method. The adsorption performance of thiophene sulfur (ThS) is systematically investigated and evaluated at mild temperatures through batch tests. The (ZIF-8-NH2)-PVP-(Cu-BTC-NH2) exhibits good adsorption ability toward ThS, which is attributed to the associative effects of dual MOFs with structure features such as hydrogen bond, open metal active sites, suitable pore sizes and π-π conjugation, etc. Meanwhile, the (ZIF-8-NH2)-PVP-(Cu-BTC-NH2) embedded 25 wt % water still remains crystal intact and good adsorption desulfurization performance, which is attributed to the NH2- functional groups. After five recycles, more than 90% ThS uptake onto (ZIF-8-NH2)-PVP-(Cu-BTC-NH2) could be recovered, exhibiting good reuse performance. This study presents a new strategy for grafting MOF-on-MOF with specific functional groups to improve the abilities of desulfurization and water resistance.

Abstract
Salmonellosis continues to impose a significant economic burden globally. Rapid and sensitive detection of Salmonella is crucial to preventing the outbreaks of foodborne illnesses, yet it remains a formidable challenge. Herein, a dual-functional tetrahedron multivalent aptamer assisted amplification-free CRISPR/Cas12a assay was developed for Salmonella detection. In the system, the aptamer was programmatically assembled on the tetrahedral DNA nanostructure to fabricate a multivalent aptamer (TDN-multiApt), which displayed a 3.5-fold enhanced avidity over the monovalent aptamer and possessed four CRISPR/Cas12a targeting fragments to amplify signal. Therefore, TDN-multiApt could directly activate Cas12a to achieve the second signal amplification without any nucleic acid amplification. By virtue of the synergism of high avidity and cascaded signal amplifications, the proposed method allowed the ultrasensitive detection of Salmonella as low as 7 cfu mL-1. Meanwhile, this novel platform also exhibited excellent specificity against target bacteria and performed well in the detection of various samples, indicating its potential application in real samples.

Abstract
In 2023, Baishideng Publishing Group (Baishideng) routinely published 47 open-access journals, including 46 English-language journals and 1 Chinese-language journal. Our successes were accomplished through the collective dedicated efforts of Baishideng staffs, Editorial Board Members, and Peer Reviewers. Among these 47 Baishideng journals, 7 are included in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) and 6 in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). With the support of Baishideng authors, company staffs, Editorial Board Members, and Peer Reviewers, the publication work of 2023 is about to be successfully completed. This editorial summarizes the 2023 activities and accomplishments of the 13 SCIE- and ESCI-indexed Baishideng journals, outlines the Baishideng publishing policy changes and additions made this year, and highlights the unique advantages of Baishideng journals.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the diagnostic performance of renal artery contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) with modified inspection section and summarize subsequent changes in imaging assessment of renal artery disease. METHODS A total of 1015 patients underwent renal artery CEUS were included in the study. Among them, 79 patients (156 renal arteries) suspected with renal artery stenosis (RAS) underwent digital subtraction angiography (DSA) subsequently. DSA was used as the gold standard to evaluate the diagnostic performance of CEUS in detecting RAS (≥30%) and severe stenosis (≥70%), as well as the diagnostic accuracy of classification of stenosis degree. Besides, 127 of the 1015 patients underwent other imaging examinations such as computed tomography angiography (CTA) or magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) after CEUS and annual proportion of these imaging examinations was assessed. RESULTS The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of CEUS for detecting RAS (≥30%) was 96.4%, 88.6%, 94.2%, 95.6% and 90.7%, respectively and the kappa value was .857 (P < .01). CEUS had a good performance in distinguishing severe stenosis (≥70%) with a sensitivity of 91.1%, specificity of 95.5%, accuracy of 92.9%, PPV of 96.5%, NPV of 88.7% and the kappa value was 0.857(P < .01). There was no significant difference between CEUS and DSA in detecting stenosis (P = 1.0) and severe stenosis (P = .227). The diagnostic accuracy of CEUS in grading RAS was 85.3% and the kappa value was 0.753 (P < .01). Besides, the annual proportion of other imaging examinations decreased for 4 consecutive years. CONCLUSIONS CEUS is a non-invasive, safe and valuable technique for the assessment of renal artery disease and worthy of promotion.

Abstract
Proteasome-associated autoinflammatory syndrome-2 (PRAAS2) is characterized by early onset combined immunodeficiency, inflammatory neutrophilic dermatosis, and autoimmunity. We report the case of a premature baby (GA 35+5 weeks) born with disseminated and confluent red papules, diagnosed with PRAAS2. A novel de novo frameshift proteasome maturation protein (POMP) mutation (c.333delT (p.t111fs)) was detected, confirming the diagnosis.

Abstract
The adverse effects of heavy metal pollutants in wastewater have threatened human health in recent decades. Therefore, the development of absorbents for such pollutants is essential to overcome these problems. Electrospun nanofibers are often used for wastewater treatment owing to their high porosity and high specific surface area. Zein from plants and collagen from animals are vulnerable to moisture, which limits its broad application in practice. However fully biodegradable polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), which is soluble in water, can be mixed with protein individually to overcome the limitation. In this work, the two proteins described above and PVA were combined to prepare protein nanofibers by electrospinning technology, which could achieve adsorption of Cu2+. As the protein content increased, the adsorption properties of the obtained nanofibers for Cu2+ showed a rising and then decreasing trend, with the highest point at 50 % of protein content, especially the collagen nanofibers, which reached 24.62 mg/g. Both protein nanofibers reached adsorption equilibrium after 15 h, but overall, collagen nanofibers showed a superior adsorption performance for Cu2+ than that by zein nanofibers. In the process of Cu2+ adsorption by protein nanofibers, both physical and chemical effect existed, and the physical effect played the leading role.

Abstract
To address the common drawbacks of current disinfection robots, which include the potential for secondary environmental pollution, disinfection dead corners, and low efficiency, in this paper, an autonomous mobile combination disinfection system is proposed. The system utilizes ultraviolet (UV) radiation and a low-concentration hydrogen peroxide aerosol to kill pathogens. It comprises three parts: a human-computer interface, a mobile robot, and disinfection equipment. A disinfection process model with continuous and fixed-point modes was established, and the effective disinfection range, speed, and duration were quantitatively calculated. The developed prototype was tested on-site by a professional third-party testing agency. The experimental results demonstrated that the combination disinfection robot achieved a 92.95% disinfection rate of natural airborne bacteria in a room measuring 22 square meters with a height of 2.8 m in just 30 min. The disinfection efficiency is at least 25% higher compared to standalone UV lamp disinfection and also exhibits a noticeable improvement over standalone hydrogen peroxide aerosol disinfection. The system enables the environmentally friendly, rapid, efficient, and all-encompassing disinfection of natural airborne bacteria. Finally, various disinfection solutions and recommendations for different application scenarios and requirements are provided.

Abstract
Congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG) is a group inherited disorders. It is characterized by multi-organ dysfunction with significant morbidity and mortality. MAN2B2-CDG caused by pathogenic variants in the MAN2B2 gene was a rare CDG. To date, only one case of MAN2B2-CDG was reported. The representative clinical features were immune deficiency, dysmorphic facial features, coagulopathy, and severe developmental delay. More cases are needed to support the pathogenesis of MAN2B2 variation and elucidate its clinical heterogeneity. In this study, we described the clinical presentations of a CDG proband with compound heterozygous variants in MAN2B2. Serum N-glycan profiling was measured by MALDI coupled to time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). MALDI-TOF MS analysis of patient serum showed disorders of N-linked glycosylation, including increased N-glycans and elevated Man5/Man6 and Man5/Man9 value. Our proband presented severe developmental delay, dysmorphic facial features as in the previous case. But our case presented new features, including cleft palate and hypospadias with no immune deficiency. Our data expands both the molecular and clinical phenotypes of MAN2B2-CDG and highlights the importance of the role of MAN2B2 gene in CDG.

Abstract
Background Doppler ultrasound (DUS) is recommended in first-line imaging for the diagnosis of renal artery stenosis (RAS). However, the correct selection of Doppler direct or indirect parameters and their optimal thresholds remain controversial. This study explored simple ultrasound Doppler parameters to diagnose severe RAS (RAS ≥70%) in routine clinical practice. Methods In this retrospective study, patients with clinically suspected renovascular hypertension who first underwent renal artery DUS and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and subsequent digital subtraction angiography (DSA) or computed tomography angiography (CTA) were consecutively included. Clinical characteristics and ultrasound Doppler hemodynamic parameters were collected, including peak systolic velocity (PSV), the ratio of the peak velocities in the renal artery and the aorta (RAR), the ratio of the peak velocities in the renal artery and the segmental artery (RSR), and the ratio of the peak velocities in the renal artery and the interlobar artery (RIR). All enrolled patients were divided into two groups based on the degree of diameter reduction: a severe stenosis group (diameter reduction ≥70%) and a non-severe stenosis group (diameter reduction <70%). Logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the independent predictors for severe stenosis. Receiver operating characteristic curves and areas under the curve were used to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the ultrasound Doppler parameters. Results A total of 85 patients (106 renal arteries) with RAS were included in this study. The optimal thresholds of PSV in the main renal artery and the PSV ratios for diagnosing severe RAS obtained via receiver operating characteristic curves were 249.5 cm/s for PSV, 2.94 for RAR, 5.1 for RSR, and 7.5 for RIR. The areas under the curve of PSV and the ratios all exhibited good diagnostic efficiency (all >0.8). The combination of these four Doppler variables demonstrated a significant benefit to the overall diagnostic value compared with any factor alone [area under the curve (AUC) =0.962; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.906-0.989; P<0.05]. The combination of PSV and RSR (AUC =0.925; 95% CI: 0.858-0.967) exhibited comparable diagnostic efficiency to the combination of four ultrasonographic variables (z statistic =1.882; P=0.06). Conclusions This simple and accurate method to evaluate severe RAS based on the velocity obtained via basic DUS may facilitate the detection of severe RAS in the majority of medical institutions and provide a reliable basis for the selection of proper candidates for further angiography or revascularization.

Abstract
Adsorptive removal of dyes (e.g., malachite green (MG)) from wastewater using commercially available adsorbents is not significantly efficient. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) such as Cu-BTC is considered as an excellent adsorbent in adsorption-separation filed. However, the water instability of Cu-BTC restricts its potential utilization in dye wastewater purification. In this paper, we have developed a novel metal/covalent-organic frameworks (Cu-BTC@TpPa-1) binary composite by solvothermal method. This composite serves as a multifunctional platform for the effective removal of MG from water. This Cu-BTC@TpPa-1 obviously keeps structural integrity soaked in water for 7 days. And its heat resistant performance can achieve 360 °C because of the TpPa-1 protection, which is outdistance to that of Cu-BTC. The adsorbed capacity of MG over Cu-BTC@TpPa-1 is exceptionally high, with an uptake of up to 64.12 mg/g, which is superior compared to previous adsorbents, highlighting its superior adsorption capabilities. The adsorptive performance was controlled by the associative effects of Cu-BTC and TpPa-1 with an association effect of π-complexation and electrostatic attraction. The Cu-BTC@TpPa-1 might be a prospective adsorbent for MG capture from industrial wastewater.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the effect of nerve injury in rats by neurobehavioral experiments, in order to provide a model and idea for further clarification of the traumatic brain injury mechanism under explosion exposure. Methods: From May 2021 to August 2022, 160 SPF male rats were randomly divided into four groups, including control group, 60 kPa group (low intensity group), 90 kPa group (medium intensity group) and 120 kPa group (high intensity group). The blast induced traumatic brain injury (bTBI) model of rats was established by using the shock tube platform to simulate the shock wave parameters of the explosion overpressure of 60 kPa, 90 kPa and 120 kPa. Acute observation was carried out after 24 h and 7 d of explosive exposure, and chronic recovery observation was carried out after 28 d and 90 d. The time effect of shock wave brain injury in different situations was discussed by open field, light dark test, active avoidance test. Finally, the results of brain injury in rats were detected by pathological tissue staining. Results: After 24 h explosion exposure, compared with the control group, the rest time of rats in low and high intensity groups increased, the total movement distance decreased, and the number of visits to the camera obscura decreased, with statistical significance (P<0.05). After 7 days of exposure, compared with the control group, the rest time of rats in high intensity group increased, and the number of visits to the obscura decreased, with statistical significance (P<0.05). After 28 and 90 days of exposure, compared with the control group, there were no significant differences in rest time, total exercise distance and times of visiting the camera obscura in all intensity groups (P>0.05). After 24 h of explosive exposure, compared with the control group, the cell morphology of rats in each intensity group was normal, and no inflammatory cell infiltration was observed. Conclusion: In the acute phase (24 h) of blast exposure, rats have no desire to explore the outside world, and shock wave exposure may damage the neurological function of rats.

Abstract
Gametophytic self-incompatibility (SI) is regulated by S-allele recognition; that is, pollen in a style with the same S-genotype will undergo programmed cell death and stop growing so that it is unable to complete double fertilization, ultimately resulting in the SI response. S-RNase is the female determinant of SI in pear (Pyrus). In the Pyrus genome, there are two different S-RNase alleles at the S-locus, which generate two different S-RNase products in the pistil. The extracted S-glycoprotein is actually a protein complex. In this study, artificial self-pollination was conducted at the bud stage to overcome SI in 'Huanghua' (S1S2) pear. Seven plants homozygous for S1-RNase and four homozygous for S2-RNase were selected from the selfed progeny of 'Huanghua' by S-gene molecular identification biotechnology. We investigated the function of single S-RNases isolated from the pistils of S-gene homozygous Pyrus germplasm. The pollen of 'Huanghua' could smoothly pass through the style of the S-gene homozygous germplasm and complete fertilization. S-RNases were extracted from flower styles of different genotypes and used to treat different types of pollen. The S-RNase from 'Huanghua' completely inhibited the growth of S1S2, S1S1, and S2S2 pollen, while the S-RNase from homozygous germplasm allowed some S1S2 pollen and different single genotypes of pollen to continue growing. These results further validate the core events of SI including cytoskeleton depolymerization and programmed cell death. By iTRAQ-based proteomic analysis of style proteins, a total of 13 S-RNase-related proteins were identified. In summary, we have created reliable S-RNase gene homozygous germplasm, which will play a crucial role in further research on SI in pear and in the development of the pear industry.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is a leading cause of maternal morbidity worldwide and placenta previa is one of the major risk factors for PPH in overall population. However, the clinical prediction of PPH remains challenging. This study aimed to investigate an ideal machine learning-based prediction model for PPH in placenta previa parturients with cesarean section. METHODS The clinical data of 223 placenta previa parturients who underwent cesarean delivery in our hospital from 2016 to 2019 were retrospectively collected for analysis. An artificial neural network model was designed to predict PPH, defined as blood loss exceeding 1000 mL with 24h after delivery. Twenty clinical variables were selected as predictors. We also applied six conventional machine learning methods as reference models, including support vector machine, decision tree, random forest, gradient boosting decision tree, adaboost and logistic regression. All the models were validated using 5-fold cross-validation. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), precision, recall and the prediction accuracy of each model were reported. RESULTS A total of 223 pregnant women were enrolled in this study, including 101 cases (45.29%) experienced PPH. The proposed model achieved superior prediction performance with an AUC of 0.917, an accuracy of 0.851, a precision score of 0.829 and a recall score of 0.851, which outperformed other six conventional machine learning methods. CONCLUSIONS Compared to the conventional machine learning approaches, artificial neural network model shows discriminative ability in identifying women's risk of PPH with placenta previa during cesarean section.

Abstract
Salmonella infection has emerged as a global health threat, causing death, disability, and socioeconomic disruption worldwide. The rapid and sensitive detection of Salmonella is of great significance in guaranteeing food safety. Herein, we developed a colorimetric/fluorescent dual-mode method based on a DNA-nanotriangle programmed multivalent aptamer for the sensitive detection of Salmonella. In this system, aptamers are precisely controlled and assembled on a DNA nanotriangle structure to fabricate a multivalent aptamer (NTri-Multi-Apt) with enhanced binding affinity and specificity toward Salmonella. The NTri-Multi-Apt was designed to carry many streptavidin-HRPs for colorimetric read-outs and a large load of Sybr green I in the dsDNA scaffold for the output of a fluorescent signal. Therefore, combined with the magnetic separation of aptamers and the prefabricated NTri-Multi-Apt, the dual-mode approach achieved simple and sensitive detection, with LODs of 316 and 60 CFU/mL for colorimetric and fluorescent detection, respectively. Notably, the fluorescent mode provided a self-calibrated and fivefold-improved sensitivity over colorimetric detection. Systematic results also revealed that the proposed dual-mode method exhibited high specificity and applicability for milk, egg white, and chicken meat samples, serving as a promising tool for real bacterial sample testing. As a result, the innovative dual-mode detection method showed new insights for the detection of other pathogens.

Abstract
Objective: To describe the prevalence of psychological distress and to analyze its influencing factors among Chinese children and adolescents aged 9-18 years in 2019. Methods: Data was from the 2019 Chinese National Survey on Students' Constitution and Health, and 148 892 children and adolescents were included. Psychological distress was measured using the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10): scores ≤19 were defined as no psychological distress, scores between 20-24 were defined as mild psychological distress, scores between 25-29 were defined as moderate psychological distress, and scores ≥30 were defined as severe psychological distress (moderate to severe psychological distress were defined as high psychological distress). The ANOVA, t test, and χ2 test were used to compare the differences in K10 scores and high psychological distress rates among children and adolescents with different characteristics. The ANOVA and trend χ2 test were used to analyze the trends. Modified-Poisson regression models were used to determine influencing factors of high psychological distress. Results: The K10 scores for Chinese children and adolescents aged 9-18 years in 2019 was 21.5±9.2, and their rate of high psychological distress was 31.6%. The rates of high psychological distress among children and adolescents aged 9-12, 13-15, and 16-18 years were 22.3%, 35.9%, and 38.8%. K10 scores and rates of high psychological distress showed an increasing trend as age increased (trends test all P<0.001). K10 scores and rates of high psychological distress were higher among children and adolescents who were older, female, rural, in areas with medium to low GDP per capita level, and with lower parental education (all P<0.001). Multifactorial modified-Poisson regression analysis showed that children and adolescents aged 13-15 years, 16-18 years, female, rural, and in areas with low to moderate GDP per capita level were at higher risk of high psychological distress (all P<0.05), with aOR (95%CI) of 1.55 (1.52-1.58), 1.66 (1.63-1.69), 1.07 (1.05-1.09), 1.02 (1.01-1.04), 1.10 (1.07-1.12). Children and adolescents in areas with medium to high GDP per capita level, whose father had a secondary or high school degree, whose father had a college degree or above, whose mother had a secondary or high school degree, and whose mother had a college degree or above were at lower risk of high psychological distress (all P<0.05), with aOR (95%CI) of 0.96 (0.94-0.98), 0.92 (0.90-0.93), 0.84 (0.82-0.86), 0.95 (0.93-0.97), 0.86 (0.83-0.88). Conclusions: The prevalence of psychological distress was high among Chinese children and adolescents aged 9-18 years in 2019, which is a vital problem. Mental health interventions need to be implemented among children and adolescents that were older, girls, rural, live in areas with lower economic levels, and whose parents have a lower education level.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Severe trauma can result in cardiorespiratory failure, and when conventional treatment is ineffective, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) can serve as an adjunctive therapy. However, the indications for ECMO in trauma cases are uncertain and clinical outcomes are variable. This study sought to describe the prognosis of adult trauma patients requiring ECMO, aiming to inform clinical decision-making and future research. METHODS A comprehensive search was conducted on Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane, and Scopus databases until March 13, 2023, encompassing relevant studies involving over 5 trauma patients (aged ≥ 16 years) requiring ECMO support. The primary outcome measure was survival until discharge, with secondary measures including length of stay in the ICU and hospital, ECMO duration, and complications during ECMO. Random-effects meta-analyses were conducted to analyze these outcomes. The study quality was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute checklist, while the certainty of evidence was evaluated using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations (GRADE) approach. RESULTS The meta-analysis comprised 36 observational studies encompassing 1822 patients. The pooled survival rate was 65.9% (95% CI 61.3-70.5%). Specifically, studies focusing on traumatic brain injury (TBI) (16 studies, 383 patients) reported a survival rate of 66.1% (95% CI 55.4-76.2%), while studies non-TBI (15 studies, 262 patients) reported a survival rate of 68.1% (95% CI 56.9-78.5%). No significant difference was observed between these two survival comparisons (p = 0.623). Notably, studies utilizing venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO) (15 studies, 39.0%, 95% CI 23.3-55.6%) demonstrated significantly lower survival rates than those using venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV ECMO) (23 studies, 72.3%, 95% CI 63.2-80.7%, p < 0.001). The graded assessment of evidence provided a high degree of certainty regarding the pooled survival. CONCLUSIONS ECMO is now considered beneficial for severely traumatized patients, improving prognosis and serving as a valuable tool in managing trauma-related severe cardiorespiratory failure, haemorrhagic shock, and cardiac arrest.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Autogenous tooth block (ATB) has been used as an alternative material for bone regeneration, but its efficacy compared with autogenous bone block (ABB) remains uncertain. The aim of this systematic review was to investigate and compare the clinical and histological performance of ATB and ABB grafts in lateral alveolar ridge augmentation (LARA). METHODS Electronic retrieval of MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library (CENTRAL), Scopus, Web of Science, China national knowledge infrastructure, Wanfang data, SinoMed, and manual searching until July 2023 were used to identify controlled clinical trials employing ATB grafts in LARA. The identified reports included at least one of the following outcome variables: ridge width gain, graft resorption, postoperative complications, histology, and histomorphometry. Weighted or mean differences (MD), relative risk, and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated. Descriptive analysis was applied to the qualitative statistics. The protocol followed the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses statement and was prospectively registered in PROSPERO (CRD42023399611). RESULTS Four controlled clinical trials with 77 participants each using ATB and ABB grafts were included. Meta-analysis indicated that ATB grafts resulted in greater bone width (MD = 1.31, 95% CI [0.92, 1.71], P < .00001) and less graft resorption (MD = -0.71, 95% CI [-1.22, -0.21], P = .005) than ABB grafts on LARA. There was no statistical difference in postoperative complications between ATB and ABB grafts (relative risk = 0.81, 95% CI [0.32, 2.04], P = .66). Furthermore, the ATB grafts exhibited positive replacement resorption with alveolar bone for favorable signs of new bone activity on histology and histomorphometry. CONCLUSION Within the limitations of this study, ATB grafts could serve as an alternative material for ABB to support LARA. Further research with a longer follow-up period is required to verify these findings.

Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of morphine hydrochloride sustained-release tablets and oxycodone hydrochloride sustained-release tablets on T-cell levels in advanced lung squamous cell carcinoma(LUSC) with moderate to severe cancer pain. Methods A retrospective study was used, ninety-eight patients who were admitted to The First Affiliated Hospital of Hebei North University for treatment of advanced LUSC with moderate to severe cancer pain between January 2021 and December 2021 were randomized into two groups(n=49 each) using the sealed envelope system. The reference group was treated with morphine hydrochloride sustained-release tablets, while the experimental group received oxycodone hydrochloride sustained-release tablets to compare pain relief rates(PRRs), levels of T cells, pain intensity, et al. Blood samples were collected for lymphocyte levels by flow cytometry. Results The experimental group had significantly higher level than the reference group(P<0.05). Before administration, the two groups did not differ greatly in levels of T-cell subsets or pain scores on the visual analog scale(P>0.05, respectively). At 15 days of administration, the Treg level in the experimental group was higher than in the reference group; T helper 17 and 22 cells were reduced in both groups, and the decrease was more pronounced in the experimental group. At seven and 15 days of administration, the experimental group had a VAS score significantly lower than the reference group(P<0.05). The total adverse reaction rate was significantly lower in the experimental group as compared with the reference group(P<0.05). Conclusions Oxycodone hydrochloride sustained-release tablets demonstrate desirable efficacy and safety in advanced LUSC with moderate to severe cancer pain by modulating T-cells in the body and improving the PRR.

Abstract
BACKGROUND For moderate ptosis associated with fair levator function (LF), the levator resection is the most commonly used procedure. However, the levator resection technique still has some disadvantages, such as residual lagophthalmos (RL), undercorrection, conjunctival prolapse, and eyelid contour abnormality. To solve the above problems, our team have made modifications to the levator resection technique in three aspects: releasing the levator muscle sufficiently, preserving the supporting structure of the conjunctiva, and placing multiple suture sites. METHODS Fifty-seven patients (81 eyes) underwent the modified levator resection technique and were enrolled in the study. Preoperative data collected included age, sex, margin reflex distance 1 (MRD1), and LF. Postoperative data collected included MRD1, RL, patient satisfaction, complications, and length of follow-up. RESULTS Mean MRD1 significantly increased from 1.45 ± 0.65 mm preoperatively to 3.57 ± 0.51 mm postoperatively. Mean LF significantly increased from 6.49 ± 1.12 mm preoperatively to 9.48 ± 1.39 mm postoperatively. Successful correction was obtained in 77 eyes (95.1%). Mean RL was 1.09 ± 0.57 and 72 eyes (88.9%) showed excellent or good eyelid closure function. Fifty-four patients (94.7%) were completely satisfied with the final result. Complications such as hematoma, infection, conjunctival prolapse, suture exposure, corneal abrasion, and keratitis were not found in any cases during follow-up. CONCLUSION This modified levator resection technique introduced in this study is effective in correcting moderate congenital blepharoptosis, while minimizing RL, undercorrection, conjunctival prolapse, eyelid contour abnormality by releasing the levator muscle sufficiently, preserving the supporting structure of the conjunctiva, and placing multiple suture sites. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the value of Improved Mayo Endoscopic Score (IMES) for evaluation of treatment efficacy for active ulcerative colitis (UC). METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the clinical and endoscopic data of 103 patients diagnosed with active UC in Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital from January, 2015 to December, 2020. The severity of endoscopic lesions was determined by Mayo Endoscopic Score and the Ulcerative Colitis Endoscopic Index of Severity (UCEIS), and the area of the endoscopic lesions was evaluated based on the Montreal classification system. The IMES was established by combining the MES with the Montreal classification. RESULTS Univariate analysis suggested that young patients (<40 years old), patients with extensive disease type (E3), patients with high endoscopic scores (MES=3, UCEIS>4, and IMES>4), and patients receiving advanced drug therapy (with systemic hormones, immunosuppressants, immunomodulators, and biological agents, etc.) had lower clinical and endoscopic remission rates. COX survival analysis showed that IMES≤4 was an independent risk factor for clinical and endoscopic remission. ROC curve indicated that the predictive value of IMSE≤4 for clinical and endoscopic remission (AUC=0.7793 and 0.7095, respectively; P<0.01) was better than that of Montreal (AUC=0.7357 and 0.6847, respectively; P<0.01), MES=2 (AUC=0.6671 and 0.5929, respectively; P<0.01), and UCEIS≤4 (AUC=0.6823 and 0.6459, respectively; P<0.01); IMES=5 had a better predictive value for patients with active UC undergoing colectomy tham E3 and MES=3. CONCLUSION IMES has good value in evaluating treatment efficacy for active UC.

Abstract
Background: Citrullinemia type I (CTLN1) is a rare autosomal recessive inborn error of the urea cycle caused by mutations in the gene encoding the arginosuccinate synthetase (ASS1) enzyme. Classic CTLN1 often manifests with acute hyperammonemia and neurological symptoms. Molecular genetic testing is critical for patient diagnosis. Methods: Three unrelated families with clinically suspected CTLN1 were included in this study. Potential pathogenic variants were identified using whole exome sequencing (WES) and validated using Sanger sequencing. Western blotting, quantitative PCR, immunofluorescent staining, and ELISA were used to assess functional changes in candidate ASS1 variants. Results: Five variants were identified, two of which were novel, and one has been reported, but its pathogenicity was not validated. The novel variant c.649-651del (p.P217del) and the 5'UTR variant (c.-4C>T) resulted in a decrease in ASS1 expression at both the protein and transcription levels. The other novel variant, c.1048C>T (p.Q350*), showed a marked decrease in expression at the protein level, with the formation of truncated proteins but an increased transcription. Both c.649_651del (p.P217del) and c.1048C>T (p.Q350*) showed a highly significant reduction in enzyme activity, while c.-4C>T had no effect. Conclusion: We identified two novel variants and a hypomorphic non-coding variant in ASS1 and validated the pathogenicity using functional studies. Our findings contribute to expanding the spectrum of ASS1 variants and understanding the genotype-phenotype relationships of CTLN1.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Clot analogs are essential in animal and in vitro experiments on mechanical thrombectomy devices for treating acute ischemic stroke. Clot analogs should be capable of reproducing a variety of arterial clots observed in clinical practice in terms of histological composition and mechanical properties. METHODS Bovine blood with added thrombin was stirred in a beaker so that clots could be formed under the condition of dynamic vortical flow. Static clots were also prepared without stirring, and the properties of the static clots and dynamic clots were compared. Histological and scanning electron microscopy experiments were performed. Compression and relaxation tests were performed to evaluate the mechanical properties of the two types of clots. Thromboembolism and thrombectomy tests were conducted in an in vitro circulation model. RESULTS Compared to the static clots, the dynamic clots prepared under vortical flow displayed a higher fibrin content, and their fibrin network was denser and sturdier than that of the static clots. The stiffness of the dynamic clots was significantly higher than that of the static clots. The stress of both types of clots could decay quickly under large sustained strain. The static clots could break at the bifurcation in the vascular model, while the dynamic clots could be firmly stuck in the vascular model. CONCLUSIONS Dynamic clots generated in dynamic vortical flow differ significantly from static clots in terms of their composition and mechanical properties, which may be beneficial information for preclinical research on mechanical thrombectomy devices.

Abstract
It is significant to understand the interfacial interactions involved between the cellulose acetate (CA) and dispersed nanomaterials, in which the enhanced interaction improves the mechanical behavior of CA. In this work, the amendments of CA with SiO2 nanoparticles have been found to be endowed by grafting varying concentrations (0, 3, 5, and 6%) of octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS). Aided by SiO2 colloid probe atomic force microscopy (AFM with a probe diameter of 20 μm), the adhesion force between CA and SiO2 is found to be programmable by tuning OTS concentrations functionalized onto SiO2 surfaces. The adhesion forces of 5% OTS-functionalized SiO2 with CA are the strongest, followed by the ones of 0, 3, and 6% OTS, resulting in a smoother and denser morphology on the film with 5% OTS. The AFM-measured approaching force-distance curves have been further compared to predictions by the extended Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (XDLVO) theory, in which the XDLVO force is summed as the Liftshitz-van der Waals force (FLW), the electrostatic double-layer force (FEL), and the acid-base interaction force (FAB). FLW and FEL do not change significantly with OTS concentrations functionalized onto SiO2. However, FAB is sensitive to the functionalized OTS concentration onto SiO2 and significantly contributes to the interaction force of the composite films with 5% OTS, promoting the formation of a smooth and dense surface feature with a considerable mechanical performance demonstrated by load-displacement curves from a nanoindenter. This is highly encouraging and suggests that nanomaterials can be incorporated into CA to effectively improve their mechanical compatibility by programming the interaction between the CA matrix and nanomaterials.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the trends of the age of menarche among Chinese Han girls aged 9 to 18 years from 2010 to 2019. Methods: Data were extracted from the Chinese National Surveys on Students' Constitution and Health in 2010, 2014 and 2019. A total of 253 037 Han girls aged 9 to 18 years with complete data on menarche were selected in this study. They were asked one-on-one about their menstrual status, age and residence information. The median age of menarche was estimated by probability regression. U tests were used to compare the difference in median age at menarche in different years. Results: The median age at menarche (95%CI) among Chinese Han girls was 12.47 (12.09-12.83) years in 2010, 12.17 (11.95-12.38) years in 2014 and 12.05 (10.82-13.08) years in 2019, respectively. Compared with that in 2010, the median age at menarche in 2019 decreased by 0.42 years (U=-77.27, P<0.001). The annual average changes were -0.076 years from 2010 to 2014 (U=-57.19, P<0.001) and -0.023 years from 2014 to 2019 (U=-21.41, P<0.001), respectively. The average annual changes in urban areas in the periods of 2010 to 2014 and 2014 to 2019 were -0.071 years and 0.006 years, respectively, while those in rural areas were -0.082 years and -0.053 years, respectively. The average annual changes in the regions of north, northeast, east, south central, southwest and northwest were -0.064, -0.099, -0.091, -0.080, -0.096 and -0.041 years in the period of 2010 to 2014 and 0.001, -0.040, -0.002, -0.005, -0.043 and -0.081 years in the period of 2014 to 2019. Conclusion: The age of menarche among Chinese Han girls aged 9 to 18 years shows an advanced trend from 2010 to 2019, and the trends in urban and rural areas and different regions have different characteristics.

Abstract
Oxidative stress after ischemia reperfusion can cause irreversible brain damage. Thus, it is vital to timely consume excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) and conduct molecular imaging monitoring on the brain injury site. However, previous studies have focused on how to scavenge ROS while ignoring the mechanism of relieving the reperfusion injury. Herein, we reported a layered double hydroxide (LDH)-based nanozyme (denoted as ALDzyme), which was fabricated by the confinement of astaxanthin (AST) with LDH. This ALDzyme can mimic natural enzymes, which include superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT). Furthermore, the SOD-like activity of ALDzyme is 16.3 times higher than that of CeO2 (a typical ROS scavenger). Based on these enzyme-mimicking properties, this one-of-a-kind ALDzyme offers strong anti-oxidative properties as well as high biocompatibility. Importantly, this unique ALDzyme can establish an efficient magnetic resonance imaging platform, thus guiding the in vivo details. As a result, the infarct area can be reduced by 77% after reperfusion therapy, and the neurological impairment score can be lowered from 3-4 to 0-1. Density functional theory computations can reveal more about the mechanism of this ALDzyme's significant ROS consumption. These findings provide a method for unraveling the neuroprotection application process in ischemia reperfusion injury using an LDH-based nanozyme as a remedial nanoplatform.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the perceived exercise benefits and barriers and their association with physical activity time in Chinese Han children and adolescents aged 9-18 years. Methods: Data were extracted from the 2019 Chinese National Survey on Students' Constitution and Health and a total of 163 656 children and adolescents aged 9-18 years in Han ethnic group were included in the analysis. Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test were used to compare the perceived exercise benefits score, perceived exercise barriers score and perceived exercise benefits to barriers ratio in the children and adolescents with different demographic characteristics and physical activity time. The differences in physical activity time in subgroups were compared with χ2 tests. log-binomial regression model was used to evaluate the association between physical activity time and perceived exercise benefits and barriers. Results: The M (Q1,Q3) of the perceived exercise benefits score, perceived exercise barriers score, and perceived exercise benefits to barriers ratio in the children and adolescents were 4.11 (3.78, 4.78), 2.70 (2.10, 3.20) and 1.55 (1.22, 2.07), respectively. Children and adolescents living in urban area, boys, those at younger age and those with physical activity time ≥1 hour had higher perceived exercise benefits score and perceived exercise benefits to barriers ratio, but lower perceived exercise barriers score (all P<0.001). The prevalence of physical activity time ≥1 hour was 41.4% in the children and adolescents. In the log-binomial model with two variables of perceived exercise benefits score and perceived exercise barriers score, for each 1-point increase in the perceived exercise benefits, the possibility of physical activity time ≥1 hour increased by 11% (OR=1.11, 95%CI: 1.10-1.12), and for each 1-point increase in the perceived exercise barriers, the possibility of physical activity time ≥1 hour decreased by 15% (OR=0.85, 95%CI: 0.84-0.85). In the log-binomial model with variable of perceived exercise benefits to barriers ratio, for each 1-point increase in the perceived exercise benefits to barriers ratio, the possibility of physical activity time ≥1 hour increased by 12% (OR=1.12, 95%CI: 1.11-1.12). Conclusion: The perceived exercise benefits and barriers are significantly associated with physical activity time in children and adolescents in China.

Abstract
Chromosomal mosaicism remains a perpetual diagnostic and clinical dilemma. In the present study, we detected two prenatal trisomy 9 mosaic syndrome cases by using multiple genetic testing methods. The non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) results suggested trisomy 9 in two fetuses. Karyotype analysis of amniocytes showed a high level (42%–50%) of mosaicism, and chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) of uncultured amniocytes showed no copy number variation (CNV) except for large fragment loss of heterozygosity. Ultrasound findings were unmarkable except for small for gestational age. In Case 1, further umbilical blood puncture confirmed 22.4% and 34% trisomy 9 mosaicism by CMA and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) respectively. After comprehensive consideration of the genetic and ultrasound results, the two gravidas decided to receive elective termination and molecular investigations of multiple tissue samples from the aborted fetus and the placenta. The results confirmed the presence of true fetoplacental mosaicism with levels of trisomy 9 mosaicism from 76% to normal in various tissues. These two cases highlight the necessity of genetic counseling for gravidas whose NIPT results highly suggest the risk of chromosome 9 to ascertain the occurrence of mosaicism. In addition, the comprehensive use of multiple genetic techniques and biological samples is recommended for prenatal diagnosis to avoid false-negative results. It should also be noted that ultrasound results of organs with true trisomy 9 mosaicism can be free of structural abnormalities during pregnancy.

Abstract
Exposure to fine particles (PM2.5) and associated PAHs are frequently linked with lung cancer, which makes the understanding of their occurrence and health risk in human lungs urgently important. Using the ultrasonic treatment and sequencing centrifugation (USC) extraction method coupled with gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC - MS/MS) analysis, we revealed the molecular fingerprints of PM-accumulated PAHs in human lungs from a cohort of 68 patients with lung cancer in a typical air-polluted region, China. Sixteen priority PAHs can be grouped by concentrations as ∼ 1 × 104 ng/g (ANT/BkF/ACE/DBA/BgP/PHN/PYR), 2-5 × 103 ng/g (BaP/FLE/NaP/BbF), and ∼ 1 × 103 ng/g (IND/Acy/CHR/FLT/BaA). The sum concentration of 16 PAHs was approximately equaled to 13% of those in atmospheric PM2.5, suggesting significant pulmonary leaching of PAHs deposited in lungs. Low- and high-molecular weight PAHs accounted for ∼ 41.8% and ∼ 45.1% of the total PAHs, respectively, which indicated that atmospheric PM2.5, tobacco and cooking smoke were likely to be important sources of pulmonary PAHs. The evident increasing concentrations of NaP and FLE in pulmonary PM were significantly correlated with smoking history among smokers. The implicated carcinogenic potency of PM-accumulated PAHs among the participants aged 70-80 was 17 times that among participants aged 40-50 on the basis of BaP equivalent concentration (BaPeq) evaluation. The particulate enrichment factor (EFP), the PAH content in pulmonary PM relative to the bulk lung tissue, was equaled to 54 ∼ 835 and averaged at 436. The high value of EFP suggested that PAHs were essentially accumulated in pulmonary PM and exhibited a pattern of "hotspot" distribution in the lungs, which would likely increase the risk of monoclonal tumorigenesis. The chemical characteristics of PM-accumulated PAHs in human lungs together with their implicated lung cancer risks could provide significant information for understanding health effects of particulate pollution in the human body.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the prevalence trend of malnutrition among Chinese Han children and adolescents aged 7-18 years from 2010 to 2019. Methods: Based on the data from the Chinese National Surveys on Students' Constitution and Health in 2010, 2014 and 2019, about 215 102, 214 268 and 212 713 Han students aged 7-18 years were included in this study. According to the National Screening Standard for Malnutrition of School-age Children and Adolescents, the detection rate of malnutrition among Chinese Han children and adolescents aged 7-18 was calculated, and the prevalence trend of malnutrition from 2010 to 2019 was analyzed. Results: In 2019, the detection rate of malnutrition among Chinese Han students aged 7-18 years was 8.64% (18 381/212 713), of which the rate of growth retardation, moderate-to-severe wasting and mild wasting was 0.50% (1 062/212 713), 3.25% (6 914/212 713) and 4.89% (10 405/212 713), respectively. In 2019, the detection rate of malnutrition in these boys was higher than that of girls (9.97% vs. 7.31%), and the detection rate in rural areas was higher than that in cities (9.30% vs. 7.98%). The detection rates were 9.74% (5 252/53 916), 8.17% (4 408/53 937), 7.29% (3 885/53 310), and 9.38% (4 836/51 550) in 7-9, 10-12, 13-15, and 16-18 years groups, and 8.14% (6 563/80 618), 7.61% (4 237/55 694) and 9.92% (7 581/76 401) in the eastern, central, and western regions. Malnutrition among students in China was mainly caused by mild wasting, and the detection rate of growth retardation accounted for only 5.78% (1 062/18 381). Malnutrition was mostly concentrated in the southwest region, and the rate was relatively low in eastern provinces. In three surveys from 2010 to 2019, the detection rate of malnutrition among Han students aged 7-18 in China decreased gradually, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Among them, the detection rates in western rural areas decreased significantly, as well as the gap between urban and rural areas. Compared with that in 2014, the detection rate of malnutrition in Shandong, Hunan, Qinghai and Hainan provinces in 2019 decreased significantly (P<0.05). Conclusion: In 2019, the malnutrition of Chinese children and adolescents aged 7-18 years is dominated by wasting malnutrition. The detection rate shows a downward trend from 2010 to 2019, with regional differences.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the trends of the age of menarche among Chinese Han girls aged 9 to 18 years from 2010 to 2019. Methods: Data were extracted from the Chinese National Surveys on Students' Constitution and Health in 2010, 2014 and 2019. A total of 253 037 Han girls aged 9 to 18 years with complete data on menarche were selected in this study. They were asked one-on-one about their menstrual status, age and residence information. The median age of menarche was estimated by probability regression. U tests were used to compare the difference in median age at menarche in different years. Results: The median age at menarche (95%CI) among Chinese Han girls was 12.47 (12.09-12.83) years in 2010, 12.17 (11.95-12.38) years in 2014 and 12.05 (10.82-13.08) years in 2019, respectively. Compared with that in 2010, the median age at menarche in 2019 decreased by 0.42 years (U=-77.27, P<0.001). The annual average changes were-0.076 years from 2010 to 2014 (U=-57.19, P<0.001) and-0.023 years from 2014 to 2019 (U=-21.41, P<0.001), respectively. The average annual changes in urban areas in the periods of 2010 to 2014 and 2014 to 2019 were-0.071 years and 0.006 years, respectively, while those in rural areas were-0.082 years and-0.053 years, respectively. The average annual changes in the regions of north, northeast, east, south central, southwest and northwest were-0.064, -0.099, -0.091, -0.080, -0.096 and-0.041 years in the period of 2010 to 2014 and 0.001, -0.040, -0.002, -0.005, -0.043 and-0.081 years in the period of 2014 to 2019. Conclusion: The age of menarche among Chinese Han girls aged 9 to 18 years shows an advanced trend from 2010 to 2019, and the trends in urban and rural areas and different regions have different characteristics.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the trend of the detection rate of myopia among Chinese Han children and adolescents aged 7-18 years from 2010 to 2019. Methods: Data from the Chinese National Survey on Students' Constitution and Health in 2010, 2014 and 2019 were used, and about 213 833, 212 742 and 209 942 Han students aged 7-18 years were included in this study. The χ² test was used to compare the differences in the prevalence of myopia among the subgroups in the survey year, and logistic regression was used to compare the differences in the prevalence of myopia between different years. A curve-fitting method was used to obtain the growth rate of myopia among Han Chinese students from 2010 to 2019, and the differences in the change of myopia between different age groups were analyzed. Results: In 2019, the overall detection rate of myopia among Chinese Han children and adolescents aged 7-18 was 60.1%. The detection rate of urban students (62.7%) was higher than that of rural students (57.4%) and the detection rate of girls (63.5%) was higher than that of boys (56.7%). In 2019, the regional disparities were large in the detection rate of myopia in various provinces, with the lowest in Guizhou (49.6%) and the highest in Zhejiang (71.3%). The detection rate of myopia showed an upward trend from 2010 to 2019, from 55.5% in 2010 to 57.1% in 2014, and finally to 60.1% in 2019. The gap in the detection rate of myopia between urban and rural children and adolescents gradually shrank. The average annual growth rate of myopia detection rate from 2014 to 2019 was 0.6 percentage points per year, higher than that from 2010 to 2014 about 0.4 percentage points per year. The peak age of the growth rate of myopia detection rate decreased from 12 years in 2010 to 10 years in 2014, and finally to 7 years in 2019. Conclusions: The detection rate of myopia among Chinese Han children and adolescents is still at a high level, and the peak age of the growth rate of myopia detection rate continues to advance.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the long-term trend of the age of spermarche among Chinese Han boys aged 11 to 18 from 2010 to 2019 and its association with nutritional status. Methods: The data from Chinese National Surveys on Students' Constitution and Health in 2010, 2014 and 2019 were used. The age, residence and spermarche of the participants were collected by questionnaire, and their height and weight were measured. A total of 184 633 Han boys aged 11‒18 years with complete data on spermarche, height, and weight were included in this study. The probability regression method was used to calculate the median age (95%CI) at spermarche in different areas, and the trend of age at spermarche in different groups was compared. The multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between nutritional status and spermarche of Chinese Han boys aged 11‒18 years. Results: The median age of spermarche (95%CI) was 13.85 (13.45-14.22) years old among Chinese Han boys aged 11‒18 years in 2019, with 0.18 years earlier than that in 2010. The median age at spermarche in urban and rural boys was 13.89 and 13.81 years, respectively. Compared with that in 2010, the age at spermarche in urban and rural boys was 0.08 and 0.27 years earlier, respectively. After adjusting for age, province and urban/rural areas, compared with normal weight, spermarche was negatively associated with wasting and positively associated with overweight and obesity, with OR (95%CI) about 0.73 (0.67-0.80), 1.09 (1.02-1.17) and 1.09 (1.01-1.18), respectively. Conclusion: The age of spermarche generally shows an advanced trend among Chinese Han boys and is associated with nutritional status.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the prevalence trend of high normal blood pressure and elevated blood pressure in children and adolescents aged 7 to 17 years in China from 2010 to 2019. Methods: Students aged 7-17 years were selected from the Chinese National Survey on Students' Constitution and Health from 2010 to 2019. High normal blood pressure and elevated blood pressure were determined according to the "Reference of screening for elevated blood pressure among children and adolescents aged 7-18 years" (WS/T 610-2018). The Chi-square test was performed to determine whether there was a difference in the prevalence of high normal blood pressure and elevated blood pressure by gender, residence and age group. Results: In 2019, the prevalence of high normal blood pressure in children and adolescents aged 7-17 years was 15.3% (29 855/195 625), which was higher in boys (20.2%, 19 779/97 847) and rural areas (15.4%, 15 066/97 567) than that in girls (10.3%, 10 076/97 778) and urban areas (15.1%, 14 789/98 058), respectively (all P<0.05). The prevalence of elevated blood pressure was 13.0% (25 377/195 625), which was higher in girls (13.2%, 12 925/97 778) and rural areas (14.1%, 13 753/97 567) than that in boys (12.7%, 12 452/97 847) and urban areas (11.9%, 11 624/98 058) (all P<0.05). From 2010 to 2019, the prevalence of high normal blood pressure showed an increasing trend, with an annual average growth rate from 1.14% to 3.18%. The overall prevalence of elevated blood pressure also showed an increasing trend from 2010 to 2019 but decreased in 2014. The annual average growth rate of elevated blood pressure was-1.07% from 2010 to 2014 and 9.33% from 2014 to 2019. About 17 provinces had an increasing trend in the prevalence of elevated blood pressure from 2010 to 2014, and 22 provinces with an increasing trend from 2014 to 2019. There were obvious regional differences in the annual average growth rate of the prevalence of high normal blood pressure and elevated blood pressure. The regions with the highest annual average growth rate of the prevalence of high normal blood pressure were the Northeast (5.47%) from 2010 to 2014 and the Western region (5.21%) from 2014 to 2019. For elevated blood pressure, the Northeast had the highest annual average growth rate from 2010 to 2014 (12.35%), while the Central (15.79%) and Western (12.87%) had the highest growth rate from 2014 to 2019. Conclusion: From 2010 to 2019, the prevalence of high normal blood pressure and elevated blood pressure in Chinese Han children and adolescents aged 7 to 17 shows an increasing trend, with regional disparities.
