The inferior vena cava is the main organ of venous return from the lower extremities and abdominal organs to the right atrium. Congenital atresia of inferior vena cava is very rare. This anomaly can be surprising for transplant surgeons. The anomaly, if unknown, can cause procedural complications during interventional procedures or organ harvesting.

Fatal Case of Pulmonary Invasive Aspergillus after Heart Transplant with a Rapidly Progressive Course

The incidence of invasive fungal infections is lower than that of bacterial infections in heart transplant recipients. However, they are always life-threatening. Clinical manifestations may range from asymptomatic colonization to disseminated infection. This complication is responsible for significant morbidity and mortality, particularly in heart transplant recipients. Herein, we present on a cardiac transplant recipient who presented with invasive pulmonary aspergillosis quickly leading to death, in spite of early diagnosis and aggressive therapy. It just took 10 hours from the diagnosis to death. In other reports, this period was at least 12 days.

Direct Synthesis of Nitriles from Aldehydes and Hydroxylamine Hydrochloride Catalyzed by a HAP@AEPH2-SO3H Nanocatalyst

We describe an efficient method for the direct preparation of nitriles from aldehydes and hydroxylamine hydrochloride catalyzed by sulfonated nanohydroxyapatite functionalized by 2-aminoethyl dihydrogen phosphate (HAP@AEPH2-SO3H) as an eco-friendly and recyclable solid acid nanocatalyst. In this protocol the use of a solid acid nanocatalyst provides a green, useful, and rapid method for the preparation of nitriles in excellent yields. In addition, the notable feature of this methodolgy is that the synthesized nanocatalyst can be recovered and reused five times without any noticeable loss of efficiency.

Trichloroisocyanuric Acid/Triphenylphosphine-Mediated Synthesis of Benzimidazoles, Benzoxazoles, and Benzothiazoles

A new and efficient method for preparation of benzimidazoles, benzoxazoles, and benzothiazoles from reactions of different carboxylic acids with o-phenylenediamine, o-aminophenol, and o-aminothiophenol in the presence of triphenylphosphine/trichloroisocyanuric acid system is presented. The desired products have been characterised on the basis of spectral (infrared, NMR, mass spectrometry) data, and the mechanism of their formation is proposed. The remarkable advantages are the inexpensive and readily available reagent, simple procedure, mild conditions, and good-to-excellent yields.

Pre-concentration and determination of amitriptyline residues in waste water by ionic liquid based immersed droplet microextraction and HPLC

This paper describes a new approach for the determination of amitriptyline in wastewater by ionic liquid based immersed droplet microextraction (IL-IDME) prior to high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection. 1-Hexyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([C₆MIM][PF₆]) was used as an ionic liquid. Various factors that affect extraction, such as volume of ionic liquid, stirring rate, extraction time, pH of the aqueous solution and salting effect, were optimized. The optimal conditions were as follows: microextraction time, 10 min; stirring rate, 720 rpm; pH, 11; ionic drop volume, 100 μL; and no sodium chloride addition. In quantitative experiments the method showed linearity in a range from 0.01 to 10 μg/mL, a limit of detection of 0.004 μg/mL and an excellent pre-concentration factor (PF) of 1100. Finally, the method was successfully applied to the determination of amitriptyline in the hospital wastewater samples.

Efficient synthesis of 2-indolyl-1-nitroalkanes catalyzed by tetramethyl-tetra-3,4-pyridinoporphyrazinato copper(II) methyl sulfate

A new method for the synthesis of 2-indolyl-1-nitroalkanes from indoles and β-nitrostyrene via Michael addition catalyzed by [ Cu (3,4-tmtppa)] (MeSO4)4 as a reusable catalyst under solvent-free conditions is described. This method has been also successfully applied for Michael addition of 3-methyl-1-phenyl-5-pyrazolone with β-nitrostyrenes.

Formylation of amines and alcohols using aminopropylated mesoporous SBA-15 silica (APMS) as an efficient and recyclable catalyst
