Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to describe the pregnancy outcomes of a case series of patients with probable cerclage failure who received repeat cerclage (RC) with potential indications. METHODS We retrospectively collected a case series of 55 singleton pregnancies with RC from 2019 to 2022 in Shanghai, China. All included women provided written informed consent, and the study was approved by the ethics committees of the two hospitals. We compared pregnancy outcomes between pregnancies with RC for different indications. RESULTS Among the case series, nine patients underwent RC for the indication of protruding membranes below the previous suture loop (group A), and the other 46 patients for painless cervix dilation (group B). Gestational age at delivery was shorter in group B than in group A (30.7 vs 37.6 weeks, P = 0.009). Rates of preterm birth <32 weeks (63.0% vs 22.2%, P = 0.033) and < 37 weeks (76.1% vs 33.3%, P = 0.002) were significantly higher in group B than in group A. Of the 46 patients who underwent RC for painless cervical dilation, 28 had cervical dilation of 1 to 2 cm (group C) and the other 18 had cervical dilation of 3 to 6 cm (group D). The gestational age at delivery was shorter in group D than in group C (27.4 vs 31.5 weeks, P = 0.037). However, rates of preterm birth <32 or <37 weeks were similar between the groups. CONCLUSION RC may constitute a rescue strategy for patients with probable cerclage failure. Protrusion of membranes below the cerclage loop or cervical dilation <3 cm may be an indicator of better pregnancy outcome.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the efficacy of transvaginal cerclage in twin pregnancies with cervical shortening, and to narrow the threshold cervical length for transvaginal cerclage. METHODS This is a prospective cohort study and 177 twin pregnancies with asymptomatic cervical dilatation or cervical length of 15 mm or less between 16+0 and 25+6 weeks of pregnancy were included. Patients independently chose either transvaginal cerclage (n = 129) or no cerclage treatment (n = 48) after being consulted on the risk and potential benefit of transvaginal cerclage. The primary outcome measures were gestational age at delivery and neonatal survival rate. RESULTS Compared with the no cerclage group, the cerclage group exhibited a higher gestational age at delivery (32.1 ± 4.5 vs 28.3 ± 6.2 weeks, P < 0.001) and a higher neonatal survival rate (86.4% vs 47.9%, P < 0.001). Subgroup analysis showed that in twin pregnancies with cervical dilatation or cervical length less than 10 mm, the cerclage group had significantly higher gestational age at delivery (31.3 ± 4.6 vs 23.4 ± 4.3 weeks, P < 0.001) and a higher neonatal survival rate (123 [85.4%] vs 4 [9.1%], P < 0.001) than the no cerclage group, but in twins when cervical length was 10-15 mm, the two measures were similar between the two groups. CONCLUSION Transvaginal cerclage may provide benefits for twins when cervical dilatation or cervical length is less than 10 mm, but its efficacy might not extend to twins when the cervical length is 10-15 mm. Further evidence is needed to confirm the efficacy of transvaginal cerclage for twin pregnancies with a short cervix.

Abstract
Contrast agents in the second window of the near-infrared region (NIR II, 1000–1700 nm) have several advantages and indocyanine green (ICG), which emits NIR II fluorescence, is clinically approved and its use has been widely investigated for in vivo imaging, specifically for delineating tumor outlines; however, insufficient tumor targeting and rapid physiological metabolism of free ICG has substantially impeded its further clinical application. Here, we constructed novel hollowed mesoporous selenium oxide nanocarriers for precise ICG delivery. After surface modification with the active tumor targeting amino acid motif, RGD (hmSeO2@ICG-RGD), the nanocarriers were preferentially targeted toward tumor cells and subsequently degraded for ICG and Se-based nanogranule release under tumor tissue extracellular pH conditions (pH 6.5). The released ICG acted as an NIR II contrast agent, highlighting tumor tissue, after intravenous administration of hmSeO2@ICG-RGD into mammary tumor-bearing mice. Importantly, the photothermal effect of ICG improved reactive oxygen species production from SeO2 nanogranules, inducing oxidative therapy. The synergistic therapeutic effects of hyperthermia and increased oxidative stress on 808 nm laser exposure induced significant tumor cell killing. Thus, our nanoplatform can generate a high-performance diagnostic and therapeutic nanoagent that facilitates in vivo tumor outline discrimination and tumor ablation.

Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder that affects ~2% of the global population aged ≥65 years. Grb10-interacting GYF protein-2 (GIGYF2) can influence the development of PD through the regulation of insulin-like growth factor-1. The aim of the present meta-analysis study was to establish the contribution of GIGYF2 polymorphisms to PD. The study was conducted based on nine eligible studies consisting of 7,246 PD patients and 7,544 healthy controls. The results indicated that the GIGYF2 C.3630A>G polymorphism increased the risk of PD by 37% [P=0.008; odds ratio (OR), 1.37; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.08-1.73] and that the GIGYF2 C.167G>A polymorphism was significantly associated with PD (P=0.003; OR, 3.67; 95% CI, 1.56-8.68). The meta-analyses of the other five GIGYF2 polymorphisms (C.1378C>A, C.1554G>A, C.2940A>G, C.1370C>A and C.3651G>A) did not reveal any significant associations. The present meta-analyses of the GIGYF2 genetic polymorphisms may provide a comprehensive overview of this PD candidate gene for future studies.

Abstract
Background Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a severe chronic immune mediated inflammatory disease that has been shown to be associated with human leukocyte antigen (HLA) loci. The transporter associated with antigen processing 2 (TAP2) has been identified to play an important role in the HLA-associated diseases and immune response. The goal of our meta-analysis was to summarize the contribution of TAP2 polymorphisms to the risk of RA. Methods Meta-analyses were performed between RA and 3 TAP2 coding polymorphisms that comprised TAP2-379Ile > Val (rs1800454), TAP2-565Ala > Thr (rs2228396) and TAP2-665Thr > Ala (rs241447). The meta-analyses were involved with 9 studies (24 individual studies) among 973 cases and 965 controls. Results Meta-analyses showed that TAP2-379Ile allele was significantly associated with an increased risk of RA (p = 0.0002, odds ratio (OR) = 1.44, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.18-1.74). This association was further shown only in the dominant model (p = 0.006, OR = 1.59, 95% CI = 1.14-2.22). Subgroup analyses by ethnicity revealed that the association of TAP2-379Ile was significant in Asians (p = 0.03, OR = 1.38, 95% CI = 1.04-1.83). In addition, another significant association of TAP2-565Thr allele with RA was observed in Europeans (p = 0.002, OR = 1.62, 95% CI = 1.20-2.20). Conclusions Our meta-analyses suggested that TAP2-379Ile allele was significantly associated with a 59% increased risk in the dominant effect model. Subgroup analyses by ethnicity showed that TAP2-379-Ile increased the risk of RA by 38% in Asians and TAP2-565Thr increased the risk of RA by 38% in Europeans. Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative movement d'isorder that affects ~2% of the population aged ≥65 years. NAD(P)H-quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) are two important factors in the generation of oxidative stress in PD. The aim of the present study was to assess the association of NQO1 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) polymorphisms with PD. A meta-analysis was performed that included data from 15 studies comprising 2,858 patients and 2,907 healthy controls. The results showed that TNF-1031 (rs1799964) was significantly associated with PD in the recessive [P=0.0005; odds ratio (OR), 3.19; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.66-6.13] and additive models (P=0.0006; OR, 3.15; 95% CI, 1.63-3.51). However, there was no significant association in NQO1 C609T (rs1800566) and TNF-308 (rs1800629) with PD. To the best of our knowledge, the present study is the first meta-analysis of NQO1 and TNF polymorphisms with PD demonstrating that TNF-1031 polymorphism may be a risk factor for PD under either the recessive or additive models. However, the meta-analyses did not support the involvement of NQO1 C609T and TNF-308 in the risk of PD.

Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder that affects ~2% of the population aged ≥65 years. The degeneration of dopamine neurons in the substantia nigra contributes to the pathogenesis of PD. Dopamine receptor D2 (DRD2) and dopamine receptor D3 (DRD3) are two key subtypes of dopamine receptors. The aim of our study was to evaluate the association between the polymorphisms of DRD2 and DRD3 genes and PD. Meta-analyses were conducted from 16 studies (46 stages) among 4,279 cases and 5,661 controls between PD and 9 polymorphisms (DRD2: rs1800497, rs1079597, rs6278, rs6279, rs273482, rs1799732 and rs1076563; DRD3: rs6280 and rs2134655). A significant association was observed between DRD3 rs2134655 polymorphism and PD [P=0.01, odds ratio (OR)=1.17, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.03-1.32] and a borderline association was observed between DRD2 rs1800497 polymorphism and PD in Europeans (P=0.05, OR=1.13, 95% CI: 1.00-1.27). Findings of the current meta-analysis suggested that DRD3 rs2134655 polymorphism was associated with a 17% increased risk of PD and that DRD2 rs1800497 polymorphism had a potential to increase the risk of PD by 13% in Europeans. Future large-scale studies are required to confirm the ethnic difference of DRD2 rs1800497 polymorphism and to determine whether there were significant associations of PD with other polymorphisms in DRD2 and DRD3 genes.

Abstract
MicroRNAs are gene regulators that work through a posttranscriptional repression mechanism. Dysregulation of microRNA expression could lead to a variety of disorders, in particular, human cancer, and has also been implicated in antihormone therapy resistance. However, little is known whether microRNAs have a role in estrogen-independent growth, leading to tamoxifen resistance in estrogen receptor (ER)-positive tumors. In this study, we use an in vivo selection system against a microRNA library using the MCF-7 model and demonstrate that miR-101 promotes estrogen-independent growth and causes the upregulation of phosphorylated Akt (pAkt) without impacting the ER level or activity. Importantly, although miR-101 suppresses cell growth in normal estradiol (E2)-containing medium, it promotes cell growth in E2-free medium. Moreover, estrogen deprivation greatly enhances miR-101-mediated Akt activation. Finally, we show that MAGI-2 (membrane-associated guanylate kinase), a scaffold protein required for PTEN (phosphatase and tensin homolog) activity, is a direct target for miR-101; suppression of MAGI-2 by miR-101 reduces PTEN activity, leading to Akt activation. Taken together, these results not only establish a role for miR-101 in estrogen-independent signaling but also provide a mechanistic link between miR-101 and Akt activation.

Abstract
Detection thresholds for spectral and temporal modulations are measured using broadband spectra with sinusoidally rippled profiles that drift up or down the log-frequency axis at constant velocities. Spectro-temporal modulation transfer functions (MTFs) are derived as a function of ripple peak density (omega cycles/octave) and drifting velocity (omega Hz). The MTFs exhibit a low-pass function with respect to both dimensions, with 50% bandwidths of about 16 Hz and 2 cycles/octave. The data replicate (as special cases) previously measured purely temporal MTFs (omega = 0) [Viemeister, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 66, 1364-1380 (1979)] and purely spectral MTFs (omega = 0) [Green, in Auditory Frequency Selectivity (Plenum, Cambridge, 1986), pp. 351-359]. A computational auditory model is presented that exhibits spectro-temporal MTFs consistent with the salient trends in the data. The model is used to demonstrate the potential relevance of these MTFs to the assessment of speech intelligibility in noise and reverberant conditions.
