Abstract
Gender inequality and diversity in STEM is a challenging field of research. Although the relation between the sex/gender of the researcher and the scientific research practices has been previously examined, less interest has been demonstrated towards the relation between sex/gender of the researcher and the way sex/gender as a variable is explored. Here, we examine, from a neurofeminist perspective, both questions: whether sex/gender identity is related to the examination of sex/gender as a variable and whether different approaches towards examining sex/gender are being used in different topics of study within neuroscience. Using the database of submitted posters to the Organization of Human Brain Mapping 2022 annual conference, we identified abstracts examining a sex/gender-related research question. Among these target abstracts, we identified four analytical categories, varying in their degree of content-related complexity: (1) sex/gender as a covariate, (2) sex/gender as a binary variable for the study of sex/gender differences, (3) sex/gender with additional biological information, and (4) sex/gender with additional social information. Statistical comparisons between sex/gender of researcher and the target abstract showed that the proportion of abstracts from Non-binary or Other first authors compared to both Women and Men was lower for all submitted abstracts than for the target abstracts; that more researchers with sex/gender-identity other than man implemented analytical category of sex/gender with additional social information; and, for instance, that research involving cognitive, affective, and behavioural neuroscience more frequently fit into the sex/gender with additional social information-category. Word cloud analysis confirmed the validity of the four exploratorily identified analytical categories. We conclude by discussing how raising awareness about contemporary neurofeminist approaches, including perspectives from the global south, is critical to neuroscientific and societal progress.

Abstract
The statin drug target, 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR), is strongly linked to body mass index (BMI), yet how HMGCR influences BMI is not understood. In mammals, studies of peripheral HMGCR have not clearly identified a role in BMI maintenance and, despite considerable central nervous system expression, a function for central HMGCR has not been determined. Similar to mammals, Hmgcr is highly expressed in the Drosophila melanogaster brain. Therefore, genetic and pharmacological studies were performed to identify how central Hmgcr regulates Drosophila energy metabolism and feeding behavior. We found that inhibiting Hmgcr, in insulin-producing cells of the Drosophila pars intercerebralis (PI), the fly hypothalamic equivalent, significantly reduces the expression of insulin-like peptides, severely decreasing insulin signaling. In fact, reducing Hmgcr expression throughout development causes decreased body size, increased lipid storage, hyperglycemia, and hyperphagia. Furthermore, the Hmgcr induced hyperphagia phenotype requires a conserved insulin-regulated α-glucosidase, target of brain insulin (tobi). In rats and mice, acute inhibition of hypothalamic Hmgcr activity stimulates food intake. This study presents evidence of how central Hmgcr regulation of metabolism and food intake could influence BMI.

Abstract
Several reports suggest obesity and bipolar disorder (BD) share some physiological and behavioural similarities. For instance, obese individuals are more impulsive and have heightened reward responsiveness, phenotypes associated with BD, while bipolar patients become obese at a higher rate and earlier age than people without BD; however, the molecular mechanisms of such an association remain obscure. Here we demonstrate, using whole transcriptome analysis, that Drosophila Ets96B, homologue of obesity-linked gene ETV5, regulates cellular systems associated with obesity and BD. Consistent with a role in obesity and BD, loss of nervous system Ets96B during development increases triacylglyceride concentration, while inducing a heightened startle-response, as well as increasing hyperactivity and reducing sleep. Of notable interest, mouse Etv5 and Drosophila Ets96B are expressed in dopaminergic-rich regions, and loss of Ets96B specifically in dopaminergic neurons recapitulates the metabolic and behavioural phenotypes. Moreover, our data indicate Ets96B inhibits dopaminergic-specific neuroprotective systems. Additionally, we reveal that multiple SNPs in human ETV5 link to body mass index (BMI) and BD, providing further evidence for ETV5 as an important and novel molecular intermediate between obesity and BD. We identify a novel molecular link between obesity and bipolar disorder. The Drosophila ETV5 homologue Ets96B regulates the expression of cellular systems with links to obesity and behaviour, including the expression of a conserved endoplasmic reticulum molecular chaperone complex known to be neuroprotective. Finally, a connection between the obesity-linked gene ETV5 and bipolar disorder emphasizes a functional relationship between obesity and BD at the molecular level. The World Health Organization suggests obesity is a major cause of poor health and is becoming the leading public health concern. Likewise, mood-based disorders, such as bipolar disorder, are one of the top ten causes of disability worldwide. There is evidence that obesity and bipolar disorder may be linked and that obesity may exacerbate bipolar disorder symptoms. For the first time, our work evidences a molecular-link between obesity and bipolar disorder. In humans the obesity-linked gene ETV5 was also associated with bipolar disorder. Using the model organism Drosophila melanogaster (the fruit fly) we show that the ETV5 homologue Ets96B regulates a series of genes known to be neuroprotective and inhibiting the expression of Ets96 in dopaminergic neurons induces phenotypes linked to obesity and bipolar disorder, including increased lipid storage, increased anxiety and reduced sleep. Our work will help to further the understanding of how these to disorders may interact.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Hyperintense vessels on baseline FLAIR MR imaging of patients with ischemic stroke have been linked to leptomeningeal collateralization, yet the ability of these to maintain viable ischemic tissue remains unclear. We investigated whether hyperintense vessels on FLAIR are associated with the severity of hypoperfusion and response to thrombolysis in patients treated with intravenous tissue-plasminogen activator. MATERIALS AND METHODS Consecutive patients with ischemic stroke with an MR imaging before and within 24 hours of treatment, with proved vessel occlusion and available time-to-maximum maps were included (n = 62). The severity of hypoperfusion was characterized on the basis of the hypoperfusion intensity ratio (volume with severe/mild hypoperfusion [time-to-maximum ≥ 8 seconds / time-to-maximum ≥ 2 seconds]). The hypoperfusion intensity ratio was dichotomized at the median to differentiate moderate (hypoperfusion intensity ratio ≤ 0.447) and severe (hypoperfusion intensity ratio > 0.447) hypoperfusion. Good outcome was defined as a modified Rankin Scale score of ≤2. RESULTS Hyperintense vessels on FLAIR were identified in 54 patients (87%). Patients with extensive hyperintense vessels on FLAIR (>4 sections) had higher NIHSS scores, larger baseline lesion volumes, higher rates of perfusion-diffusion mismatch, and more severe hypoperfusion (hypoperfusion intensity ratio). In stepwise backward multivariate regression analysis for the dichotomized hypoperfusion intensity ratio (including stroke etiology, age, perfusion deficit, baseline lesion volume, smoking, and extent of hyperintense vessels on FLAIR), extensive hyperintense vessels on FLAIR were independently associated with severe hypoperfusion (OR, 6.8; 95% CI, 1.1-42.7; P = .04). The hypoperfusion intensity ratio was an independent predictor of a worse functional outcome at 3 months poststroke (OR, 0.2; 95% CI, 0.5-0.6; P < .01). CONCLUSIONS Hyperintense vessels on FLAIR are associated with larger perfusion deficits, larger infarct growth, and more severe hypoperfusion, suggesting that hyperintense vessels on FLAIR most likely indicate severe ischemia as a result of insufficient collateralization.

Abstract
SUMMARY Adequate vitamin D/calcium supplementation during osteoporosis (OP) treatments seems insufficient. This cohort study within a national claims database evaluated calcium/vitamin D co-prescription in postmenopausal women initiating an OP treatment. A high co-prescription rate was observed with three quarters of women supplemented with calcium and/or vitamin D in agreement with current recommendations. INTRODUCTION Adequate calcium/vitamin D supplementation should be taken in combination with antiresorptive drugs in OP treatment. Despite guidelines, supplementation appears to be insufficient. The objective of this study was to describe and estimate co-prescription rates of calcium/vitamin D among postmenopausal women initiating an OP treatment. METHODS All women over 50 years with a first claim for a bisphosphonates, raloxifene, or strontium prescription filled between May and August 2010 were included in a retrospective cohort study. Data source was the health insurance claims database of the Rhône-Alpes area. RESULTS Among 4,415 women, 77.0 % had co-prescription of calcium or vitamin D with initial OP treatment, of which 2,150 (49.7 %) had both calcium and vitamin D. The proportion of women with calcium and/or vitamin D (81.7 %) was significantly higher when OP treatment was a bisphosphonate compared to strontium (70.9 %) or raloxifene (67.0 %) (p < 0.05). Among women prescribed both calcium and vitamin D, 7.6 % received a bisphosphonate and vitamin D ± calcium fixed-combination pack. General practitioners prescribed two thirds of initial supplementation treatment (66.9 %). Patients were twice as likely to be prescribed supplementation when the prescriber was a rheumatologist (OR = 2; 95 % CI = 1.57-2.54). CONCLUSION Three quarters of women initiating OP treatment were supplemented with calcium and/or vitamin D in agreement with current recommendations. This represents a high co-prescription rate.

Abstract
Routine cytological fine needle aspiration was introduced in cases where scintigraphy and echography revealed cold, solid thyroid nodules. The cytological patterns of goitre, thyroiditis and neoplasias are briefly described. Needle aspiration cytology appears to provide substantial diagnostic accuracy with a low incidence of false positives or negatives. This examination is essentially risk-free, and easy to perform, providing fast, accurate diagnosis and making surgery superfluous.

Abstract
94 patients with Stage II obliterating arteriopathy of the lower extremities, treated with Flunarizine (10-20 mg per diem), were checked every two months for a 6 month period. Of the 76 patients reaching the final check up, 58 had received no previous treatment and 18 had ischemias secondary to reconstructive vascular surgery. Clinical improvement in terms of increased independent mobility and improved Doppler flowmeter pressure readings were noted in both groups. In view of its beneficial effects on blood vessel function in other areas, Flunarizine is felt to be a valuable drug for the treatment of peripheral arteriopathies, both initially and in cases of ischaemia following vascular surgery.

Abstract
The Authors report their experience about 152 patients examined between 1976-1979 in the Aistom Centre of the Institute of "Semeiotica Chirurgica" at the University of Trieste. 98 patients irrigated their colostomies, while 57 patients were excluded in consequence of general or local counterindications. 92% of the irrigating patients gained fecal continence, but 1/4 of them use the colostomy bag to obtain full control of gas and odors. No cases of colonic perforation, bleeding or severe dermatitis were observed. The follow-up shows that most of the irrigating patients undergo less serious psychological problems and usually have easier social lives. It is opinion of the Authors that the results of colonic irrigation are better than natural evacuation. Irrigation should be therefore considered the best method of choice for the management of permanent colostomies.
