Abstract
This study aimed to document the process of adapting a dance intervention in a complex clinical setting, in order to propose a methodology that could inspire the development of other interventions in specific clinical contexts. While the content of health-related dance interventions is still relatively undocumented in the literature, the processes of adapting dance to specific situations are even less so, and rarely seem to be based on theoretical or practical guidelines. Yet the description of these processes could guide the adaptation of other interventions. The adaptation methodology described in this article is part of an embedded single-case study, where the case unit was the adaptation process of a dance group intervention and the subunits of analysis were the intervention's clinical and theoretical premises, content, and pedagogy. Participants were rehabilitation therapists (n = 21), patients (n = 6), relatives (n = 4), and rehabilitation assistants (n = 4). Data were collected through various techniques (focus groups, situational observation, pilot dance sessions, interviews, critical incidents, research journals, template for intervention description, and replication/TIDieR checklist, and video recordings) to allow an iterative adaptation process. Inductive qualitative analysis revealed that the adaptations were made prior to and throughout the intervention, taking into account relevant scientific and disciplinary knowledge, as well as the different actors' implicit, and explicit experiences. The intervention pedagogy focused on adapting the dance content to meet the participants' needs while inviting them to self-adapt this content. The resulting methodology model includes 4 stages: preliminary design, validation with rehabilitation therapists, specific tailoring, and ongoing tailoring. Optimizing the adaptation of dance and ensuring its complementarity within a complex clinical context requires collaboration with the different disciplinary clinicians in order to offer synergistic coherence and ensure dance's contribution to therapeutic objectives.

Abstract
Background: There exist several barriers to physical activity (PA) among adolescent girls. We therefore developed a culturally acceptable dance/fitness intervention called THANDAV (Taking High-Intensity Interval Training [HIIT] ANd Dance to Adolescents for Victory over noncommunicable diseases [NCDs]). The main aim of this study was to evaluate the THANDAV protocol among Asian Indian girls aged 10 to 17 years. Materials and Methods: THANDAV consisted of a 10-min routine with high- and low-intensity dance steps that was taught to 23 adolescent girls. Heart rate (HR), energy expenditure, body mass index (BMI), and blood pressure (BP) were recorded. Focused group discussions (FGDs) were conducted after the quantitative measurements were completed. Results: The average age of the girls was 13.9 ± 2.1 years, and the mean BMI and BP were 19.8 ± 3.3 kg/m2 and 107/68 (±8/7) mm/Hg, respectively. All participants achieved 80% of their maximum HR during the first dance and managed to sustain this HR throughout the 10-min routine. There was a significant increase in the HR (bpm) [88.7 ± 8.4 to 195.6 ± 11.8, P < 0.001] and VO2 (L/min) [0.025 ± 0.0 to 0.395 ± 0.1, P < 0.001] postintervention. The average energy cost of the activity (metabolic equivalent) was 6.3. The FGDs revealed that THANDAV was a socially acceptable, fun, and energetic form of PA. Conclusions: The THANDAV intervention meets HIIT norms and is a novel culturally appropriate form of PA that is enjoyable, takes little time, and can be done at home. It has the potential to be a sustainable intervention to improve cardiorespiratory fitness and prevent NCDs in Asian Indian adolescent girls. Clinical Trials Registry of India: CTRI/2020/02/023384.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mild cognitive impairment is an age-related cognitive disorder which is associated with frequent memory lapses, impaired judgement, and progressive functional decline. If untreated early, 39.2% of people with mild cognitive impairment could progress to develop dementia. However, there are currently no approved pharmacological interventions to treat the condition, which lead researchers to explore non-pharmacological options, such as dance therapy. OBJECTIVES This systematic review aimed to examine the effectiveness of dance interventions on cognition, neuroplasticity, physical function, depression, and quality of life in older adults with mild cognitive impairment. METHODS Seven databases were systematically searched from their respective inception dates to 31 March 2020. Relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were screened and assessed for risk of bias. Eight RCTs evaluating dance interventions were included. RESULTS Results showed that dance interventions had a significant moderate effect on global cognition (SMD=0.54, Z = 3.55, p<0.001), significantly improved memory (SMD=0.33, Z = 3.97, p<0.001), visuospatial function (SMD=0.42, Z = 2.41, p = 0.02), and language (SMD=0.39, Z = 2.69, p = 0.007). We found that dance interventions produced a significant moderate effect on physical function (SMD=0.55, Z = 3.43, p<0.001), and a significant effect on quality of life (SMD=0.93, Z = 5.04, p<0.0.001). CONCLUSION Dance is a non-pharmacological and inexpensive intervention that can be implemented for older adults on a large scale. It can slow down the cognitive deterioration of older adults with mild cognitive impairment. However, the findings should be interpreted with caution due to the heterogeneity in intervention designs. Rigorous design studies with long-term follow-ups, neuroimaging, biological markers, and comprehensive neuropsychological assessment are required to understand the mechanism of dance interventions and demonstrate its efficacy for older adults with mild cognitive impairment. Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Dancing is a form of physical exercise associated with health benefits in older adults. Regular dancing can prolong healthy aging, maintain or even improve physical function, and thus enhance their quality of life. The aim of this review was to evaluate the effects of dance intervention on physical function performance in healthy older adults in randomized-controlled trials (RCTs). METHODS Five electronic databases (Cochrane Library, PsycINFO, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science) were searched systematically until the end of June 2018 by two independent reviewers. These searches were limited to the English language and persons with average age older than 65. The tool from the Cochrane Collaboration was used to assess the risk of bias. A standard meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager Software version 5.3. RESULTS Thirteen RCTs from a total of 1029 older participants were included in this meta-analysis. The results showed that dance intervention significantly improved mobility function and endurance performance when compared with control groups for healthy older adults. However, gait was not significantly improved through dancing. Studies included in this review were not enough to perform meta-analysis for the effectiveness of dance on balance and general health in healthy older adults. CONCLUSION Overall, dance intervention was effective to improve physical function performance in healthy older adults. The results from this meta-analysis strengthen the evidence from previous individual studies. Properly organized dance intervention would be a safe and effective exercise to incorporate into daily life.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Daytime tiredness is a risk factor for poor health and well-being in the short and long term and is often associated with sleep problems, stress-related mental health complaints and decreased school functioning. This study investigates the effect of an 8 month dance intervention study on daytime tiredness, alertness, sleep duration, sleep quality and school satisfaction. METHODS Randomized controlled intervention study that included a total of 112 girls aged 13-18 years old with stress-related somatic and mental health problems. Dance intervention with focus on enjoyment were performed semiweekly for 8 months. Questionnaire-based measurements regarding self-reported daytime tiredness, alertness, school satisfaction, sleep duration and quality were evaluated at baseline and at 8-, 12- and 20- month follow-ups. RESULTS Daytime tiredness decreased significantly in the dance group compared to control group at all follow-ups. Alertness increased significant within the dance group, but there were no significant difference compared to the controls. Significant improvements were found in all sleep quality items within the dance group, between groups only one significant result was found. No conclusive changes in sleep duration were observed. School satisfaction increased significantly in the dance intervention group; however, its significance compared to that of the control group faded after adjustment for differences between groups at baseline. CONCLUSIONS This study suggests that a dance intervention focusing on enjoyment can be effective in decreasing daytime tiredness. This study also adds to the growing body of evidence for the benefits of using nonpharmacological interventions to decrease stress-related problems among adolescents.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aims of this study were to examine the effects of dance intervention on frailty in pre-frail and frail older persons. DESIGN This is a quasi-experimental, two-group trial. SETTING Older adults living nursing home. PARTICIPANTS Participants aged ≥ 60 years with low physical activity (mean age was 81.8 years; 71 % were female) (N = 66). METHODS Participants allocated to the dance group attended 40 min dance sessions in a nursing home, three times a week for 12-weeks. Participants allocated to the control group maintained their normal daily activities. Assessments were conducted at baseline, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks by researchers blinded to the allocation. Frailty was measured based on Fried criteria. Estimates of frailty between groups over time were calculated using the generalized estimating equations (GEE) and mixed effects models. RESULTS The prevalence of frailty decreased over time in the dance group compared to the control group (P = 0.002). The mean frailty scores decreased 0.69 at 6 weeks and 1.06 at 12 weeks. Compared to the control group, the prevalence of slowness (p = 0.002), weakness (p = 0.005), and low physical activity (p < 0.001) significantly decreased in the dance group. CONCLUSIONS Dance intervention may reduce the presence and severity of frailty in older adults. Slowness and low physical activity improve following 12 weeks of dance intervention.
