Abstract
Natural compounds with sulfur moiety produce various biological actions that may be beneficial for the therapies of several devastative disorders of the central nervous system. Here we investigated potential therapeutic effect of allicin, an organosulfur compound derived from garlic, in a mouse model of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) based on intrastriatal collagenase injection. Daily intraperitoneal administration of allicin (50 mg/kg) from 3 h after induction of ICH afforded neuroprotective effects, as evidenced by the increase of surviving neurons in the hematoma, reduction of axonal transport impairment, and prevention of axon tract injury. In addition, allicin inhibited accumulation of activated microglia/macrophages around the hematoma and infiltration of neutrophils within the hematoma. Allicin also suppressed ICH-induced mRNA upregulation of pro-inflammatory factors such as interleukin 6 and C-X-C motif ligand 2 in the brain, suggesting its anti-inflammatory effect. Moreover, ICH-induced increase of malondialdehyde as well as decrease of total glutathione in the brain was attenuated by allicin. Finally, allicin-treated mice showed better recovery of sensorimotor functions after ICH than vehicle-treated mice. These results indicate that allicin produces a therapeutic effect on ICH pathology via alleviation of neuronal damage, inflammatory responses and oxidative stress in the brain.

Abstract
Organosulfur compounds (OSCs), mainly found in garlic, are the main biologically active substances for their pharmacological effects, including lowering of blood pressure and cholesterol, anti-cancer effect, liver protection, and anti-inflammatory. Efficient and sensitive pretreatment and determination methods of OSCs in different food matrices are of great significance. This review provides a comprehensive summary about the pretreatment and determination methods for OSCs in different food samples since 2010. Commonly used pretreatment methods, such as liquid-liquid extraction, microwave-assisted extraction, pressurized liquid extraction, liquid-liquid microextraction, solid phase extraction, dispersive solid phase extraction, solid-phase microextraction, and so on, have been summarized and overviewed in this paper. In particular, we discussed and compared various analysis methods including high performance liquid chromatography coupled with different detectors, gas chromatography-based methods, and few other methods. Finally, we tried to highlight the applicability, advantages and disadvantages of different pretreatment and analysis methods, and identified future prospects in this field.

Abstract
Novel and synthetically essential flavonoids compounds containing the organosulfur moiety from Schiff bases, as well as their copper complexes, were synthesized from chrysin and 2-(phenylthio)aniline. These complexes were characterized using elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, electronic absorption spectroscopy, IR, 1H, and 13C NMR spectroscopy techniques. All the Cu(II) complexes exhibit square planar geometry. The in vitro antimicrobial activities of the investigated compounds were tested against the bacterial species, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae and fungal species, Aspergillus niger, Fusarium solani, Culvularia lunata, Rhizoctonia bataicola, and Candida albicans by serial dilution method. The DNA binding and DNA cleavage properties of copper complexes were studied. Free radical scavenging, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and antioxidant activities of the copper complexes have also been studied. In addition, using the egg albumin process, the in vitro anti-inflammatory efficacy of metal chelates was examined. Anti-tuberculosis and α-glucosidase inhibition activity were carried out from the prepared metal complexes. The flavonoid compounds containing the organosulfur moiety of Cu(II) complexes (1-8) exhibited better therapeutic agent.

Abstract
A non-conventional methodology has been utilized for the synthesis of a series of 1,2,4-triazolo-quinazoline-thiones (2a-l). Here the reaction was carried out between 1,2,4-triazolo-quinazolinones (1a-l), in the presence of 1,4-dioxane. The mixture was irradiated under microwave (100W) for 7min to obtain targeted molecules (2a-l). All the synthesized molecules were confirmed by (1)H, (13)C NMR and HRMS. The solvatochromic property (absorption spectra) of compounds (2a-l) in solvents of different polarities was studied. The compounds (2a-l) were further subjected for their in vitro free radical screening using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method and also screened for their in vitro anti-fungal property against Aspergillus flavus (A. flavus) and Aspergillus niger (A. niger). The results from free radical scavenging assay showed promising activity for compounds 2a, e-i, whereas compound 2d showed significant antioxidant activity when compared to ascorbic acid. In vitro anti-fungal study showed that the 1,2,4-triazolo-quinazoline-thiones (2a-l) had significant activity against A. flavus and A. niger compared with widely used antifungal agent Fluconazole.

Abstract
Garlic (Allium sativum), a member of the family Liliaceae, contains an abundance of chemical compounds that have been shown to possess beneficial effects to protect against several diseases, including cancer. Evidence supports the protective effects of garlic in stomach, colorectal, breast cancer in humans. The protective effects appear to be related to the presence of organosulfur compounds, predominantly allyl derivatives, which also have been shown to inhibit carcinogenesis in forestomach, esophagus, colon, mammary gland and lung of experimental animals. The exact mechanisms of the cancer-preventive effects are not clear, although several hypotheses have been proposed. Organosulfur compounds modulate the activity of several metabolizing enzymes that activate (cytochrome P450s) or detoxify (glutathione S-transferases) carcinogens and inhibit the formation of DNA adducts in several target tissues. Antiproliferative activity has been described in several tumor cell lines, which is possibly mediated by induction of apoptosis and alterations of the cell cycle. Organosulfur compounds in garlic are thus possible cancer-preventive agents. Clinical trials will be required to define the effective dose that has no toxicity in humans.
