Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess the utility of a tailored intervention program to improve continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) use and self-efficacy in individuals with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). METHODS 81 participants (mean age 52.1 ± 11.6 years; 35 females) with OSA were randomized to either a multi-dimensional intervention (PSY CPAP, n = 38) or treatment as usual (TAU CPAP, n = 43). The intervention included a psychoeducation session prior to CPAP initiation, a booster psychoeducation session in the first weeks of commencing CPAP, follow-up phone calls on days 1 and 7, and a review appointment on day 14. CPAP use was compared between the PSY CPAP and TAU CPAP groups at 1 week, 1 month, and 4 months. Self-efficacy scores (risk perception, outcome expectancies, and CPAP self-efficacy) were compared between groups following the initial psychoeducation session and again at 1 month and 4 months. RESULTS CPAP use was higher in the PSY CPAP group compared to the TAU CPAP group for all time points (p = .02). Outcome expectancies improved significantly over time in PSY CPAP participants (p = .007). Change in risk perception was associated with CPAP use at 1 week (p = .02) for PSY CPAP participants. However, risk perception did not mediate the effect between group and CPAP use at 1 week. CONCLUSIONS Interventions designed to increase self-efficacy and administered prior to CPAP initiation, repeated in the early stages of CPAP therapy, and combined with a comprehensive follow-up regime are likely to improve CPAP use. Sustained improvement in CPAP use is the ultimate goal but remains to be investigated.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Children undergoing anaesthetic induction experience peri-operative anxiety associated with negative outcomes including emergence delirium, short- and long-term maladaptive behaviour and increased postoperative analgesic requirements. This stems from children's limited ability to communicate, cope, and regulate intense emotions, leading to high dependency on parental emotional regulation. Previous interventions including video modelling, education and distraction techniques before and during anaesthetic induction have demonstrated significant reduction of anxiety levels. No existing interventions combines evidenced-based psychoeducation video with distraction techniques to support parents to moderate peri-operative anxiety. This study aims to test the efficacy of the Take5 video (now referred to as 'Take5'), a short and cost-efficient intervention for child peri-operative anxiety. METHODS A randomised, controlled, superiority trial of Take5 compared to standard care. Take5 was developed by paediatric anaesthetists, child psychologists and a consumer panel of parents of children who had experienced surgery and anaesthesia. Children aged 3-10 years presenting for elective surgery at a quaternary paediatric facility will be randomly allocated to the intervention group or standard care. Intervention group parents will be shown Take5 prior to accompanying their child for anaesthesia induction. Primary outcomes include child and parent anxiety at induction, measured by the Modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale Short Form (mYPAS-SF), the Peri-operative Adult-Child Behavior Interaction Scale (PACBIS) and the Induction Compliance Checklist (ICC). Secondary outcomes include post-operative pain, emergence delirium, parental satisfaction, cost-effectiveness, parent and child psychological well-being at 3 months post procedure and video intervention acceptability. DISCUSSION Perioperative anxiety is associated with negative outcome in children including higher pharmacological intervention, delayed procedures, and poor post-recovery outcomes resulting in financial burden on health systems. Current strategies minimising paediatric procedural distress are resource-intensive and have been inconsistent in reducing anxiety and negative postoperative outcomes. The Take5 video is an evidence-driven resource that is designed to prepare and empower parents. The success of Take5 will be evaluated by measuring differences in patient (acute and 3-month), family (satisfaction, acceptability), clinician (feasibility) and health service (cost) outcomes, with each anticipated to benefit children. Abstract
Psychoeducation interventions have been suggested to improve sexual functioning and quality of life. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of the psychoeducation intervention on quality of life, sexual function, and psychological outcomes; and to identify the critical components of psychoeducation intervention for women with gynecological cancer. This study was a systematic review and meta-analysis. Psychoeducation interventions were searched using six English databases, eligible studies were extracted, and the risk of bias was evaluated by two authors independently. A random effects model was used to examine the intervention effects. We conducted subgroup analysis and meta-regression to assess the variables underlying the heterogeneity. In total, eight trials were identified, and 1128 participants were included. Women who received the psychoeducation intervention had better quality of life (standardized mean difference (SMD) = 0.59, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.22, 0.97), sexual functioning (SMD = 0.63, 95% CI: 0.27, 0.99), and psychological outcomes (i.e., anxiety and depression (SMD = - 0.27, 95% CI: - 0.09, - 0.44)). Interventions that combined lecture-based, skill practical, discussion, and counseling were conducted using an online format and were delivered by a team of health professionals that had higher scores of qualities of life. Additionally, involving significant others in the intervention improved sexual functioning. Psychoeducation interventions effectively improve quality of life, sexual functioning, anxiety, and depression. Incorporating lecture-based, practical skills, discussion, and counseling through an online format and involving significant others are beneficial for improving the quality of life and sexual functioning among women with gynecological cancer.

Abstract
PURPOSE Childhood cancer patients often suffer from Chemotheraphy-Associated Nausea and Vomiting (CANV). To alleviate CANV, relaxation techniques and patient education were combined to develop a multidimensional psychoeducational intervention package. The aim of this pilot study was to assess the feasibility of the two major components, namely, (1) relaxation, and (2) patient education, of a psychoeducational intervention, prior to the commencement of the main study. METHODS A pre-test-post-test control group design was adopted. Twenty patients were allocated equally to the relaxation group (10 participants) and to the educational group (10 participants). Twenty historical matched control cases were identified to form the control groups. Besides, a process evaluation was adopted to assess the feasibility of the study. RESULTS In relation to episodes of vomiting on day 3, a significant difference was detected from the results (X(2) = 8.54, p = 0.036), in that fewer patients in the relaxation group experienced vomiting. A significant difference was not found in both the use of antiemetics and body weight between the groups. All subjects in the intervention groups adhered to the intervention and completed the questionnaire without difficulty. Patients and parents perceived the intervention as being moderately useful. CONCLUSIONS Although the beneficial effect of relaxation and education in alleviating CANV was not well-supported statistically, the findings from descriptive data suggest that these interventions promoted the intake of antiemetics as a preventive method. Both interventions and instruments were well-received by the patients and also by their parents.
