Enhanced Pelican Optimization Algorithm with Deep Learning-Driven Mitotic Nuclei Classification on Breast Histopathology Images

Breast cancer (BC) is a prevalent disease worldwide, and accurate diagnoses are vital for successful treatment. Histopathological (HI) inspection, particularly the detection of mitotic nuclei, has played a pivotal function in the prognosis and diagnosis of BC. It includes the detection and classification of mitotic nuclei within breast tissue samples. Conventionally, the detection of mitotic nuclei has been a subjective task and is time-consuming for pathologists to perform manually. Automatic classification using computer algorithms, especially deep learning (DL) algorithms, has been developed as a beneficial alternative. DL and CNNs particularly have shown outstanding performance in different image classification tasks, including mitotic nuclei classification. CNNs can learn intricate hierarchical features from HI images, making them suitable for detecting subtle patterns related to the mitotic nuclei. In this article, we present an Enhanced Pelican Optimization Algorithm with a Deep Learning-Driven Mitotic Nuclei Classification (EPOADL-MNC) technique on Breast HI. This developed EPOADL-MNC system examines the histopathology images for the classification of mitotic and non-mitotic cells. In this presented EPOADL-MNC technique, the ShuffleNet model can be employed for the feature extraction method. In the hyperparameter tuning procedure, the EPOADL-MNC algorithm makes use of the EPOA system to alter the hyperparameters of the ShuffleNet model. Finally, we used an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for the classification and detection of mitotic cell nuclei on histopathology images. A series of simulations took place to validate the improved detection performance of the EPOADL-MNC technique. The comprehensive outcomes highlighted the better outcomes of the EPOADL-MNC algorithm compared to existing DL techniques with a maximum accuracy of 97.83%.

Bio-Inspired Artificial Intelligence with Natural Language Processing Based on Deceptive Content Detection in Social Networking

In recent research, fake news detection in social networking using Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) models has gained immense attention. The current research article presents the Bio-inspired Artificial Intelligence with Natural Language Processing Deceptive Content Detection (BAINLP-DCD) technique for social networking. The goal of the proposed BAINLP-DCD technique is to detect the presence of deceptive or fake content on social media. In order to accomplish this, the BAINLP-DCD algorithm applies data preprocessing to transform the input dataset into a meaningful format. For deceptive content detection, the BAINLP-DCD technique uses a Multi-Head Self-attention Bi-directional Long Short-Term Memory (MHS-BiLSTM) model. Finally, the African Vulture Optimization Algorithm (AVOA) is applied for the selection of optimum hyperparameters of the MHS-BiLSTM model. The proposed BAINLP-DCD algorithm was validated through simulation using two benchmark fake news datasets. The experimental outcomes portrayed the enhanced performance of the BAINLP-DCD technique, with maximum accuracy values of 92.19% and 92.56% on the BuzzFeed and PolitiFact datasets, respectively.

Plant and Salamander Inspired Network Attack Detection and Data Recovery Model

The number of users of the Internet has been continuously rising, with an estimated 5.1 billion users in 2023, which comprises around 64.7% of the total world population. This indicates the rise of more connected devices to the network. On average, 30,000 websites are hacked daily, and nearly 64% of companies worldwide experience at least one type of cyberattack. As per IDC's 2022 Ransomware study, two-thirds of global organizations were hit by a ransomware attack that year. This creates the desire for a more robust and evolutionary attack detection and recovery model. One aspect of the study is the bio-inspiration models. This is because of the natural ability of living organisms to withstand various odd circumstances and overcome them with an optimization strategy. In contrast to the limitations of machine learning models with the need for quality datasets and computational availability, bio-inspired models can perform in low computational environments, and their performances are designed to evolve naturally with time. This study concentrates on exploring the evolutionary defence mechanism in plants and understanding how plants react to any known external attacks and how the response mechanism changes to unknown attacks. This study also explores how regenerative models, such as salamander limb regeneration, could build a network recovery system where services could be automatically activated after a network attack, and data could be recovered automatically by the network after a ransomware-like attack. The performance of the proposed model is compared to open-source IDS Snort and data recovery systems such as Burp and Casandra.

Bio-Inspired Optimization-Based Path Planning Algorithms in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles: A Survey

Advancements in electronics and software have enabled the rapid development of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and UAV-assisted applications. Although the mobility of UAVs allows for flexible deployment of networks, it introduces challenges regarding throughput, delay, cost, and energy. Therefore, path planning is an important aspect of UAV communications. Bio-inspired algorithms rely on the inspiration and principles of the biological evolution of nature to achieve robust survival techniques. However, the issues have many nonlinear constraints, which pose a number of problems such as time restrictions and high dimensionality. Recent trends tend to employ bio-inspired optimization algorithms, which are a potential method for handling difficult optimization problems, to address the issues associated with standard optimization algorithms. Focusing on these points, we investigate various bio-inspired algorithms for UAV path planning over the past decade. To the best of our knowledge, no survey on existing bio-inspired algorithms for UAV path planning has been reported in the literature. In this study, we investigate the prevailing bio-inspired algorithms extensively from the perspective of key features, working principles, advantages, and limitations. Subsequently, path planning algorithms are compared with each other in terms of their major features, characteristics, and performance factors. Furthermore, the challenges and future research trends in UAV path planning are summarized and discussed.

A Comparative Study of Common Nature-Inspired Algorithms for Continuous Function Optimization

Over previous decades, many nature-inspired optimization algorithms (NIOAs) have been proposed and applied due to their importance and significance. Some survey studies have also been made to investigate NIOAs and their variants and applications. However, these comparative studies mainly focus on one single NIOA, and there lacks a comprehensive comparative and contrastive study of the existing NIOAs. To fill this gap, we spent a great effort to conduct this comprehensive survey. In this survey, more than 120 meta-heuristic algorithms have been collected and, among them, the most popular and common 11 NIOAs are selected. Their accuracy, stability, efficiency and parameter sensitivity are evaluated based on the 30 black-box optimization benchmarking (BBOB) functions. Furthermore, we apply the Friedman test and Nemenyi test to analyze the performance of the compared NIOAs. In this survey, we provide a unified formal description of the 11 NIOAs in order to compare their similarities and differences in depth and a systematic summarization of the challenging problems and research directions for the whole NIOAs field. This comparative study attempts to provide a broader perspective and meaningful enlightenment to understand NIOAs.

Distributed Synchronization Technique for OFDMA-Based Wireless Mesh Networks Using a Bio-Inspired Algorithm

In this paper, a distributed synchronization technique based on a bio-inspired algorithm is proposed for an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)-based wireless mesh network (WMN) with a time difference of arrival. The proposed time- and frequency-synchronization technique uses only the signals received from the neighbor nodes, by considering the effect of the propagation delay between the nodes. It achieves a fast synchronization with a relatively low computational complexity because it is operated in a distributed manner, not requiring any feedback channel for the compensation of the propagation delays. In addition, a self-organization scheme that can be effectively used to construct 1-hop neighbor nodes is proposed for an OFDMA-based WMN with a large number of nodes. The performance of the proposed technique is evaluated with regard to the convergence property and synchronization success probability using a computer simulation.
