Biosafe Management of Botrytis Grey Mold of Strawberry Fruit by Novel Bioagents

Recently, there have been urgent economic and scientific demands to decrease the use of chemical fungicides during the treatment of phytopathogens, due to their human health and environmental impacts. This study explored the biocontrol efficacy of novel and eco-friendly preen (uropygial) oil and endophytic Bacillus safensis in managing postharvest Botrytis grey mold in strawberry fruit. The preen oil (25 μL/mL) showed high antifungal activity against B. cinerea Str5 in terms of the reduction in the fungal radial growth (41.3%) and the fungal colony-forming units (28.6%) compared to the control. A new strain of Bacillus safensis B3 had a good potential to produce chitinase enzymes (3.69 ± 0.31 U/mL), hydrolytic lipase (10.65 ± 0.51 U/mL), and protease enzymes (13.28 ± 0.65 U/mL), which are responsible for the hydrolysis of the B. cinerea Str5 cell wall and, consequently, restrict fungal growth. The in vivo experiment on strawberry fruit showed that preen (uropygial) oil reduced the disease severity by 87.25%, while the endophytic bacteria B. safensis B3 reduced it by 86.52%. This study reports the efficiency of individually applied bioagents in the control of phytopathogenic fungi for the first time and, consequently, encourages their application as a new and innovative strategy for prospective agricultural technology and food safety.

Innovative Strategies of Training Mechanism of Higher Education for New Entrepreneurial Talents

With the development of the social economy, more and more talents are required in economic construction and innovation. The study aims to cultivate new entrepreneurial talents and promote the overall development of new ventures. First, the entrepreneurial ability of new entrepreneurial talents is analyzed, and the feasibility of improving the entrepreneurial ability of new entrepreneurial talents is verified. Second, the architecture is designed for improving the entrepreneurial ability of new entrepreneurial talents. About 350 employees in 20 ventures in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province are randomly selected as the subjects for a questionnaire survey (QS). Three-fifty questionnaires are distributed and 300 are collected. Descriptive statistics are used to analyze the 300 valid questionnaires. Then, the relationship between the psychological states of new entrepreneurial talents and their entrepreneurial ability is explored, and the influencing factors in the development of new entrepreneurial talents are analyzed. The results show that the number of employees in most ventures is between 250 and 400 and the age of the employees in the tested new ventures is between 35 and 40. More than one-third of employees are managers and over 86% of them have a degree of bachelor or above. The scores of the scale of the psychological state of new entrepreneurs are high. This shows that most of the new entrepreneurs have a high educational level, strong motivation for entrepreneurial success, and great self-confidence, which are essential in the process of innovative training. Therefore, the talent training of new entrepreneurial talents should be based on a high educational level and focused on practice.

MULTIOMIC PATTERNS IN BODY FLUIDS: TECHNOLOGICAL CHALLENGE WITH A GREAT POTENTIAL TO IMPLEMENT THE ADVANCED PARADIGM OF 3P MEDICINE

Liquid biopsy (LB) is defined as a sample of any of body fluids (blood, saliva, tear fluid, urine, sweat, amniotic, cerebrospinal and pleural fluids, cervicovaginal secretion, and wound efflux, amongst others), which can be ex vivo analysed to detect and quantity the target(s) of interest. LB represents diagnostic approach relevant for organ-specific changes and systemic health conditions including both manifested diseases and their prestages such as suboptimal health. Further, experts emphasise that DNA-based analysis alone does not provide sufficient information for optimal diagnostics and effective treatments. Consequently, of great scientific and clinical utility are molecular patterns detected by hybrid technologies such as metabolomic tools and molecular imaging. Future proposed strategies utilise multiomic pillars (generally genome, tanscriptome, proteome, metabolome, epigenome, radiome, and microbiome), system-biological approach, and multivariable algorithms for diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic purposes. Current article analyses pros and cons of the mass spectrometry-based technologies, provides eminent examples of a success story "from discovery to clinical application," and demonstrates a "road-map" for the technology-driven paradigm change from reactive to predictive, preventive and personalised medical services as the medicine of the future benefiting the patient and healthcare at large. © 2019 The Authors. Pharmacological targeting of α-synuclein and TPPP/p25 in Parkinson's disease: challenges and opportunities in a Nutshell

With the aging of population, neurological disorders, and especially disorders involving defects in protein conformation (also known as proteopathies) pose a serious socio-economic problem. So far there is no effective treatment for most proteopathies, including Parkinson's disease (PD). The mechanism underlying PD pathogenesis is largely unknown, and the hallmark proteins, α-synuclein (SYN) and tubulin polymerization promoting protein (TPPP/p25) are challenging drug targets. These proteins are intrinsically disordered with high conformational plasticity, and have diverse physiological and pathological functions. In the healthy brain, SYN and TPPP/p25 occur in neurons and oligodendrocytes, respectively; however, in PD and multiple system atrophy, they are co-enriched and co-localized in both cell types, thereby marking pathogenesis. Although large inclusions appear at a late disease stage, small, soluble assemblies of SYN promoted by TPPP/p25 are pathogenic. In the light of these issues, we established a new innovative strategy for the validation of a specific drug target based upon the identification of contact surfaces of the pathological SYN-TPPP/p25 complex that may lead to the development of peptidomimetic foldamers suitable for pharmaceutical intervention.
