Abstract
Eight new scalarane sesterterpenes, phyllofenones F-M (1-8), together with two known analogues, carteriofenones B and A (9-10), were isolated from the marine sponge Phyllospongia foliascens collected from the South China Sea. The structures of these compounds were determined based on extensive spectroscopic and quantum chemical calculation analysis. The antibacterial and cytotoxic activity of these compounds was evaluated. Among them, only compounds 4 and 6 displayed weak inhibitory activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, with MIC values of 16 μg/mL and 8 μg/mL, respectively. Compounds 1-10 exhibited cytotoxic activity against the HeLa, HCT-116, H460, and SW1990 cancer cell lines, with IC50 values ranging from 3.4 to 19.8 μM.

Abstract
The marine sponge Lendenfeldia sp., collected from the Southern waters of Taiwan, was subjected to chemical composition screening, resulting in the isolation of four new 24-homoscalarane compounds, namely lendenfeldaranes R-U (1-4). The structures and relative stereochemistry of the new metabolites 1-4 were assigned based on NMR studies. The absolute configurations of compounds 1-4 were determined by comparing the calculated and experimental values of specific optical rotation. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of the isolated compounds were assayed using superoxide anion generation and elastase release assays. These assays are used to determine neutrophilic inflammatory responses of respiratory burst and degranulation. Compounds 2 and 4 inhibited superoxide anion generation by human neutrophils in response to formyl-L-methionyl-L-leucyl-L-phenylalanine/cytochalasin B (fMLP/CB) with IC50: 3.98-4.46 μM. Compounds 2 and 4 inhibited fMLP/CB-induced elastase release, with IC50 values ranging from 4.73 to 5.24 μM. These findings suggested that these new 24-homoscalarane compounds possess unique structures and potential anti-inflammatory activity.

Abstract
The chemical investigation of the marine sponge Dysidea sp., which was collected from Bohol province in the Philippines, resulted in the identification of 15 new scalarane-type sesterterpenoids (1-14, 16), together with 15 known compounds. The chemical structures of the new compounds were elucidated based on NMR spectroscopy and HRMS. The structure of 12-epi-phyllactone D/E (15) isolated during this study was originally identified in 2007. However, careful inspection of our experimental 13C NMR spectrum revealed considerable discrepancies with the reported data at C-9, C-12, C-14, and C-23, leading to the correction of the reported compound to the C-12 epimer of 15, phyllactone D/E. The biological properties of compounds 1-16 were evaluated using the MDA-MB-231 cancer cell line. Compound 7, which bears a pentenone E-ring, exhibits significant cytotoxicity with a GI50 value of 4.21 μM.

Abstract
Investigations on the biochemical relationship between Doriprismatica stellata (Chromodorididae, Doridoidea) nudibranchs, their egg ribbons, and the associated dietary sponge Spongia cf. agaricina (Demospongiae, Porifera) led to the isolation of the structurally new scalarane-type sesterterpene 12-deacetoxy-4-demethyl-11,24-diacetoxy-3,4-methylenedeoxoscalarin, with an unprecedented position of the cyclopropane ring annelated to the ring A. Unlike other scalaranes, which are most often functionalized at C-12 of ring C, it bears two acetoxy groups at C-11 and C-24 instead. The compound was present in all three samples, supporting the dietary relationship between chromodorid nudibranchs of the genus Doriprismatica and scalarane-containing dictyoceratid sponges of the Spongiidae family. The results also indicate that D. stellata passes the scalarane metabolite on to its egg ribbons, most likely for protective purposes. The scalarane showed antibacterial activity against the Gram-positive bacteria Arthrobacter crystallopoietes (DSM 20117) and Bacillus megaterium (DSM 32).

Abstract
In the current study, an NMR spectroscopic pattern-based procedure for probing scalarane derivatives was performed and four new 24-homoscalaranes, lendenfeldaranes A–D (1– 4), along with three known compounds, 12α-acetoxy-22-hydroxy-24-methyl-24-oxoscalar-16-en- 25-al (5), felixin F (6), and 24-methyl-12,24,25-trioxoscalar-16-en-22-oic acid (7) were isolated from the sponge Lendenfeldia sp. The structures of scalaranes 1–7 were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis. Scalaranes 1–7 were further evaluated for their cytotoxicity toward a series of human cancer cell lines and the results suggested that 5 and 7 dominated in the anti- proliferative activity of the extract. The 18-aldehyde functionality was found to play a key role in their activity.

Abstract
Four sesterterpenes, erectusolides B, C, D, and seco-manoalide-25-methyl ether, two 2-furanone derivatives, erectusfuranones A and B, together with thirteen known sesterterpenes, (6Z)-neomanoalide-24-acetate, two diastereomers of 24-O-methylmanoalide, luffariolide B, manoalide, (6E)- and (6Z)-neomanoalide, seco-manoalide, scalarafuran, 12-acetylscalarolide, 12-epi-O-deacetyl-19-deoxyscalarin, 12-epi-scalarin, and 12-O-deacetyl-12-epi-scalarin, three indole alkaloids, 5-hydroxy-1H-indole-3-carbaldehyde, hyrtiosine A, and variabine B, and one norterpene, cavernosine were isolated from the marine sponge Hyrtios erectus. Their structures were determined by means of spectroscopic methods and the absolute configurations of the asymmetric centers were determined using the modified Mosher's method. The cytotoxic activities for the isolated compounds have been reported.

Abstract
Five new scalarane sesterterpenoids, felixins A–E (1–5), were isolated from the Formosan sponge Ircinia felix. The structures of scalaranes 1–5 were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis. Cytotoxicity of scalaranes 1–5 against the proliferation of a limited panel of tumor cell lines was evaluated.

Abstract
One new pentacyclic sesterterpene, hippospongide A (1), and one new scalarane sesterterpenoid, hippospongide B (2), along with six previously reported known scalarane–type sesterterpenes (3–8), were isolated from a sponge Hippospongia sp. The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the basis of their spectroscopic data and comparison of the NMR data with those of known analogues. These metabolites are the first pentacyclic sesterterpene and scalarane-type sesterterpenes to be reported from this genus. Compounds 3–5 exhibited significant cytotoxicity against DLD-1, HCT-116, T-47D and K562 cancer cell lines.
