A Co-Crystallised Cobalt(II) Cluster of Pyridinedicarboxylic Acid (PDC) as a Luminescent Material for Selective Sensing of Methanol

A luminescent Cobalt(II) co-crystal [Co₁₃(PDC)₁₆(H₂O)₂₄.7H₂O] 1 (where H₂PDC = 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid) have been prepared by oven-heating and slow evaporation of solvent. Single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis revealed that 1 is a mixture of complexes that crystallizes in the triclinic space group P-1 and the geometry around the Co(II) ions is octahedral. The structure is extensively imbued with hydrogen bonding that helps in stabilizing the complex. Thermogravimetric analysis indicates that 1 is thermally stable up to 364 ^οC. The luminescence properties of 1 revealed a strong emission centered at 437 nm (λex = 345 nm) assigned to ligand to metal charge transfer (LMCT). The luminescence sensing of 1 towards volatile organic molecules were also examined. However, 1 displayed a turn off towards methanol compared to other molecules with high quenching efficiency and low limit of detection (3.5 × 10^-4 vol%). The results show excellent selectively and high sensitivity. Powder X-ray diffraction studies revealed that the structural integrity of the complex was maintained after exposure to methanol vapour. Theoretical studies also revealed small binding energy (-413.2 au) and low energy gap (1.19) for 1-CH₃OH adduct.

Synthesis, characterization and crystal structure of a copper-glutamate metal organic framework (MOF) and its adsorptive removal of ciprofloxacin drug from aqueous solution

A novel [Cu(Glu)₂(H₂O)]·H₂O MOF proved to be an effective adsorbent for the removal of ciprofloxacin drug from aqueous solution with an adsorption capacity of 61.35 mg g⁻¹.

Synthesis and crystal structures of a copper(ii) dinuclear complex and zinc(ii) coordination polymers as materials for efficient oxidative desulfurization of dibenzothiophene

Dinuclear copper(ii) complex [Cu₂(BAc)₄(QX)₂], and 2D zinc(ii) coordination polymer, [Zn(TDPA)₂(TMPy)₂]_n, presented high oxidation and adsorption thermodynamics for dibenzothiophene sulfoxide (DBTO).

Synthesis of zinc-carboxylate metal-organic frameworks for the removal of emerging drug contaminant (amodiaquine) from aqueous solution

We herein report the removal of amodiaquine, an emerging drug contaminant from aqueous solution using [Zn₂(fum)₂(bpy)] and [Zn₄O(bdc)₃] (fum=fumaric acid; bpy=4,4-bipyridine; bdc=benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate) metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as adsorbents. The adsorbents were characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). Adsorption process for both adsorbents were found to follow the pseudo-first-order kinetics, and the adsorption equilibrium data fitted best into the Freundlich isotherm with the R² values of 0.973 and 0.993 obtained for [Zn₂(fum)₂(bpy)] and [Zn₄O(bdc)₃] respectively. The maximum adsorption capacities foramodiaquine in this study were found to be 0.478 and 47.62mg/g on the [Zn₂(fum)₂(bpy)] and [Zn₄O(bdc)₃] MOFs respectively, and were obtained at pH of 4.3 for both adsorbents. FT-IR spectroscopy analysis of the MOFs after the adsorption process showed the presence of the drug. The results of the study showed that the prepared MOFs could be used for the removal of amodiaquine from wastewater.

Synthesis of copper–isonicotinate metal–organic frameworks simply by mixing solid reactants and investigation of their adsorptive properties for the removal of the fluorescein dye

The copper–isonicotinate metal–organic frameworks [Cu(INA)₂] (INA = isonicotinate) (MOFs) has been prepared by a highly efficient and environmentally benign technique involving mixing and heating of solid reactants without milling. The adsorption of fluorescein dye on the as-synthesised [Cu(INA)₂] was also investigated.

Synthesis of Some 3d Metal Complexes of Quinine and their Toxicological Studies

Four metal complexes of antimalarials cinchona alkaloids; [Co(Quin)Cl3]-1,[Fe(Quin)Cl2H2O]SO3H2O-2, [Cu(Quin)ClSO4]∞-3 and [Cd(Quin)ClSO4]∞-4 have beensynthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity, magnetic moment, IR,UV-Vis and mass spectroscopic techniques. The tetrahedral geometry is assigned for all thefour complexes and the quinine ligand is protonated at quinuclidine N atom with thecoordination of the metal at quinoline N atom for all the complexes. Complexes 1 and 2have zwitterionic structures while complexes 3 and 4 are polymeric in nature with zig-zagextended chains (MCl- O -SO2- O -MCl- O –SO2---).Stability constant of the complexes were evaluated for the metal salts. The value of thestability constant (β) was found to be log 10.48, 9.92, 7.98 and 7.81 for Cu(II), Fe(III),Co(II) and Cd(II), respectively and the order of β was found to beCu(II)>Fe(III)>Co(II)>Cd(II). The stability constant data revealed that concomitantlyadministration of quinine with preparation containing these metals may reduce theirefficacy. Toxicological study was carried out by investigating the effect of administration ofthe complexes on alkaline phosphatase activity of kidney, liver and serum of Albino rats.
