Abstract
AIMS Migraine is a chronic neurovascular disorder characterized by intermittent episodes of severe headache. Abnormalities in the autonomic nervous system (sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems) have been detected during migraine-free periods in patients with migraine. In these patients, disrupted autonomic innervations of the heart and coronary arteries may lead to electrocardiographic changes during a migraine attack. T-wave peak-to-end interval (Tp-e interval) and Tp-e/QT ratio are relatively new markers of ventricular arrhythmogenesis and repolarization heterogeneity. In the present observational study, we investigated the changes in ventricular repolarization during migraine attacks and attack-free periods by performing 12‑lead electrocardiography (ECG). METHODS This study included 63 patients (54 [86%] women; mean age: 33.3 ± 9.9 years) with migraine. The QT and corrected QT (QTc) intervals, Tp-e interval, and Tp-e/QT ratio of the patients during migraine attacks and attack-free periods were measured by performing 12‑lead ECG. RESULTS The QT and QTc intervals, Tp-e interval, and Tp-e/QT ratio were higher during migraine attacks than during attack-free periods (P < 0.001 for all). CONCLUSION These results indicate that migraine attacks are associated with an increase in ventricular repolarization parameters compared with attack-free periods possibly because of the dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system.

Abstract
Coronary artery perforation (CAP) is a rare, but potentially mortal possible complication of percutaneous coronary intervention. There are several treatment options for this complication, including prolonged balloon dilatation, use of a coronary stent graft, and bypass surgery. In this case report, a 65-year-old female patient who was admitted to the catheter laboratory with a diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome, was presented. Coronary angiography revealed total occlusion in the mid segment of the right coronary artery and a drug-eluting stent was implanted under 12 atm of pressure following pre-dilatation with a perfusion balloon. In order to perform defragmentation of the thrombus shifted into the proximal stent segment, post-dilatation was performed with a stent balloon (4-6 atm). After post-dilatation, an Ellis Class II perforation developed. In order to control the bleeding, a coronary stent graft was implanted at the perforation area. The rupture was sealed. Control coronary angiography 40 days later indicated that the stent graft was patent, but an arteriovenous fistula (AVF) draining to the right ventricle was detected. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of AVF seen as a late complication of CAP treated with a stent graft.

Abstract
The effect of irrigation and nitrogen fertilizer levels on the crude oil and fatty acid composition of maize cultivars was studied. Three levels of irrigation (50, 75 and 100% of field capacity) and nitrogen (100, 200 and 300 kg·ha-1) were used for treatment groups. After harvest, the crude oils were extracted and fatty acid profiles were determined by Gas Chromatography system. The study was repeated for two years and the interaction effects of fertilizer and irrigation were determined. Our results show that the crude oil content was affected positively by the fertilizer and the irrigation applications. As expected, the most abundant fatty acid was linoleic and the harvest year did not alter it. The highest linoleic acid content value was obtained with a 50% field capacity and 300 kg·ha-1 fertilizer treatment combination. In addition, fatty acid contents varied with the changing of interaction effects except for myristic and palmitic acid. Oleic acid was the second abundant fatty acid in the oil samples and the lowest oleic acid value was obtained with a 50% field capacity and 300 kg·ha-1 fertilizer treatment combination. Oleic acid content tended to increase with 75% field capacity but 100% field capacity treatment decreased in it.

Abstract
Intracoronary thrombus burden is associated with some adverse events and poor prognosis in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Identifying predictors of the intracoronary thrombus burden may contribute to the management of STEMI. In this study, we evaluated whether monocyte count to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (MHR) is a predictor of intracoronary thrombus burden in patients with STEMI. The study population consisted of 414 patients with STEMI who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Angiographic thrombus burden was classified based on thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) thrombus grades. The patients were grouped into 2 categories of low thrombus burden and high thrombus burden. The MHR was significantly higher in the high thrombus burden group compared with the low thrombus group (16.0 [9.2-22.1] vs 25.4 [13.5-44.6]; P < .001). In multivariate logistic regression analysis, MHR was an independent predictor of high thrombus burden (odds ratio: 1.067, 95% CI: 1.031-1.105; P < .001). The area under the receiver–operating characteristic curve of the MHR was 0.688 (0.641-0.733; P < .001) to predict high thrombus burden. In conclusion, MHR was independent predictor of high thrombus burden in patients with STEMI who underwent primary PCI.

Abstract
Myocardial fibrosis causes the fragmentation of QRS complexes on electrocardiogram. We hypothesized that the frequency of fragmented QRS (fQRS) could be more common in patients with psoriasis vulgaris than in healthy control subjects. In this prospective study, 100 patients with psoriasis vulgaris who did not have any cardiovascular disease were compared with 50 healthy volunteers in control group. The Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI) was used for expressing the severity of psoriasis. Patients with psoriasis were categorized according to presence of fQRS in ECG [fQRS (+) group and fQRS (-) group]. Patients with psoriasis had higher frequency of fQRS, higher levels of C reactive protein (CRP) and sedimentation rate (ESR) than the control group (n = 49, 49 % vs. n = 3, 6 %, p < 0.001; 9.91 ± 17.86 vs. 3.59 ± 0.79 mg/dL, p = 0.014; 17.37 ± 17.40 vs. 5.66 ± 5.22 mm/h, p < 0.001, respectively). Within the patient group there was no statistically significant difference between fQRS (+) and fQRS (-) subgroups with regards to sex, disease duration, CRP, ESR, medications and PASI score. It was suggested that presence of fQRS in ECG may be related with myocardial fibrosis in patients with psoriasis who do not have cardiovascular disease. For this reason, in our opinion, fQRS could be used as a predictive marker for myocardial fibrosis in patients with psoriasis.

Abstract
Objective: Cardiac syndrome X (CSX) is characterised by typical exertional chest pain, a positive response to exercise testing, and a normal coronary angiography. The relationship of CSX with myocardial fibrosis and ischemia has been clearly demonstrated in previous studies. In addition, fragmented QRS (fQRS) has been reported in the literature as an indicator of myocardial fibrosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of fQRS in patients with CSX. Methods: This prospective case-control study included 37 patients (CSX group) with typical complaints of angina, ischemia on an exercise test, and normal coronary arteries as detected by angiography and 47 patients (control group) with normal coronary arteries. Echocardiographic examinations were performed according to the recommendations of the American Society of Echocardiography. Continuous variables were expressed as mean±standard deviation (SD), and the qualitative variables were expressed as a percentage or ratio. Data were compared statistically with Shapiro–Wilk test, Student’s t-test, Mann-Whitney U, chi-square and Fisher exact test. Results: There was no significant difference between the CRX and control groups with respect to basic characteristics such as age and sex. fQRS and the frequency of its presentation with stable angina pectoris at the clinic were significantly higher in the CSX group than in the control group (p values: 0.001 and <0.001, respectively). Conclusion: A close follow-up would be useful in CSX patients in whom fQRS is detected in an electrocardiogram (ECG) because of the association between fQRS and poor prognosis with respect to the prevention of late complications. We believe that the presence of fQRS in the ECG aids in the diagnosis of CSX in clinical practice and in the recognition of this group of patients. (Anatol J Cardiol 2016; 16: 616-20)

Abstract
BACKGROUND Family history of premature atherosclerosis imposes a high risk to people. The relationship between atherosclerosis and gene polymorphisms of various biomarkers such as Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase (eNOS), C-Reactive Protein (CRP), and Interleukin-6 (IL-6) has shown in previous studies. AIMS The major aim of the study was to evaluate the CRP, eNOS, and IL-6 gene polymorphisms in a group of adolescents who have a parental history of early coronary artery disease (CAD). STUDY DESIGN Case-control study. METHODS Thirty-six volunteers with a father with obstructive CAD during the first four decades and 46 subjects with a father with normal coronary arteries documented with coronary angiography were included in the study. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism techniques were used to analyze CRP, eNOS, and IL-6 polymorphisms. RESULTS We did not find any differences between the two groups with regard to age, sex, body mass index, renal functions, systolic and diastolic blood pressures, lipid profile, and fasting glucose, hemoglobin, and high sensitivity CRP. A significant difference was only observed in IL-6-572 G/C genotype distribution and allele frequency between two groups (Pc=0.036 OR=3.48 CI (95%) 1.17-10.32). CONCLUSION The present study showed a significant association between the IL-6-572 G/C gene polymorphism (presence of C allele) and adolescents with a parental history of premature CAD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate serum concentration of nesfatin-1 in underweight children who have poor appetite, and its association with anthropometric markers of malnutrition. PATIENTS AND METHODS We recruited 50 underweight children and adolescents (aged 2-18 years) who presented with loss of appetite. Thirty age- and sex-matched controls were also included in the study. Fasting serum nesfatin-1 concentrations were measured by using Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) technique. RESULTS Mean nesfatin-1 level was significantly higher in underweight children when compared to controls (p<0.001). There was no correlation between serum nesfatin-1 levels and anthropometrics markers. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that nesfatin-1 might have an important role in regulation of food intake and pathogenesis of loss of appetite in children.

Abstract
Longed QT syndromes are cardiac repolarization disorders characterized by longed QT intervals on ECG. This electrophysiological abnormality may lead to syncope or sudden cardiac death due to rapid, polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (VT). Licorice root (Glycyrrhizin glabra root) contains Glycyrrhizin, sterols and many flavones. Glycyrrhizin may have effects on cardiac repolarization and depolarization through the autonomic nervous system. We present a case of polymorphic VT (torsades de pointes) secondary to drinking 5-6 glasses of licorice root tea for constipation for 2 days prior to admission to emergency department. Licorice root consumption should be taken into account in all patients admitted to the hospital for cardiac arrhythmia. It may cause cardiac arrhythmia when consumed regularly and in excessive amounts.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Several studies have suggested that the interval from the peak to the end of the electrocardiographic T wave (Tp-e) may correspond to the transmural dispersion of repolarization and that increased Tp-e interval and Tp-e/QT ratio are associated with malignant ventricular arrhythmias. The aim of this study was to evaluate ventricular repolarization by using the Tp-e interval and Tp-e/QT ratio in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and to assess the relation with inflammation. STUDY DESIGN Ninety-six patients (72 females, 24 males; mean age 43.8±11.8 years) with RA and 50 controls (35 females, 15 males; mean age 44.2±11.1 years) were included. From the 12-lead electrocardiogram, Tp-e interval and Tp-e/QT ratio were measured. Blood samples were taken for erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and plasma levels of C-reactive protein (CRP). These parameters were compared between groups. The relationship between ventricular repolarization and inflammation was assessed by Pearson correlation coefficients. RESULTS Tp-e interval and Tp-e/QT ratio were increased in RA patients compared to the controls (72.6±8.2 vs 66.4±8.5 ms, 0.20±0.02 vs 0.18±0.02; p<0.001 and p<0.001, respectively). The Tp-e interval was significantly correlated with CRP, ESR, and disease activity score (DAS-28) (r=0.56, p<0.001, r=0.57, p<0.001, and r=0.29, p=0.02, respectively). The Tp-e/QT ratio was also correlated with CRP, ESR, and DAS-28 score (r=0.43, p<0.001, r=0.53, p<0.001, and r=0.25, p=0.03, respectively). CONCLUSION In RA patients, the increased frequency of ventricular arrhythmias may be explained by increased indexes of ventricular repolarization and their relationship with inflammation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for chronic total occlusions (CTOs) is associated with lower rates of procedural success and higher complication rates compared with PCIs in non-CTO lesions. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between lesion characteristics and procedural success rates and in-hospital outcomes after PCI for CTO with novel equipment. STUDY DESIGN We evaluated the prospectively entered data of 63 consecutive patients undergoing PCI for CTO at our institute between August 2009 and June 2012. RESULTS A total of 63 patients (mean age: 64±11, 71% male) with one CTO lesion each underwent PCI. There were 46 patients (mean age: 63±10, 70% male) in the CTO success group and 17 patients (mean age: 65±13, 76.5% male) in the CTO failure group. Successful revascularization was achieved in 73% of patients. We used antegrade approach in 61 cases and retrograde approach in 2 cases. Our predominant strategy was single-wire technique, which was used in 54 cases (85.7%), followed by parallel-wire technique in 7 cases (11.1%). Moderate-to-severe tortuosity (odds ratio [OR]: 9.732, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.783-53.115, p=0.009) and occlusion duration (OR: 1.536, 95% CI: 1.178-2.001, p=0.002) were independent predictors of procedural failure in the multivariate analysis. No in-hospital major cardiac events occurred. CONCLUSION We have reported a study with a relatively high success rate of PCI with very low procedural and in-hospital complications. Moderate-to-severe tortuosity was observed as the most challenging problem despite the utilisation of novel equipment and techniques for CTO recanalization.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Diastolic dysfunction occurs as a result of interstitial fibrosis in hypertensive patients. Fragmented QRS (fQRS) on ECG signifies myocardial fibrosis in various clinical situations. We investigated whether fQRS on ECG is related to diastolic dysfunction in patients with hypertension. STUDY DESIGN The study population included 72 hypertensive patients with normal coronary angiogram. Fragmented QRS was defined as the presence of an additional R wave (R'), notching of the R or S wave or fragmentation in two contiguous leads corresponding to a major coronary artery. Echocardiography was performed to all patients to detect diastolic dysfunction. Diastolic dysfunction was regarded as non-severe if patients had normal diastolic function or grade 1 diastolic dysfunction or severe if they had grade ≥2 diastolic dysfunction. RESULTS Thirty-two patients had fQRS on ECGs (fQRS [+] group) and there were 40 patients who did not have fQRS on their ECGs (fQRS [-] group). The two groups were similar in terms of baseline characteristics. In patients with fQRS on the ECG, severe diastolic dysfunction was more prevalent (59.4% vs. 7.5%, p<0.001). The duration of hypertension was longer in patients with fQRS on the ECG (p<0.001). The presence of fQRS on the ECG was an indicator for severe diastolic dysfunction (B=1.954; odds ratio=7; 95% confidence interval=1.4-35.4; p=0.018). CONCLUSION The presence of fQRS complexes on ECG predicts more severe diastolic dysfunction in patients with hypertension.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cerebral toxoplasmosis is a rare but fatal complication in hematopoietic stem cell transplant patients, which mostly is caused by reactivation of latent disease. METHODS In this study, we report an analysis of cerebral toxoplasmosis in a series of 170 allogeneic stem cell transplant patients during a 30-month period at our institution. RESULTS Among these allogeneic stem cell transplant patients, 5 were diagnosed with cerebral toxoplasmosis by brain magnetic resonance imaging and polymerase chain reaction of Toxoplasma gondii DNA. The incidence of cerebral toxoplasmosis was found to be 2.94%. CONCLUSION Mortality rate is known to be very high in cerebral toxoplasmosis; therefore, it is life saving to diagnose the disease in the early stages and start treatment promptly, especially in high-endemic countries like Turkey.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the possible relationship between mitral annular calcification (MAC) and arterial stiffness. SUBJECTS AND METHODS Forty-two patients (mean age 68 ± 6 years) with MAC and an age-matched control group of 41 individuals (mean age 66 ± 6 years) were studied. Arterial stiffness and wave reflections of the study population were evaluated by using applanation tonometry (SphygmoCor). Aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV) was measured as an index of aortic stiffness. The heart rate-corrected augmentation index (AIx@75) was estimated as a composite marker of wave reflections and arterial stiffness. RESULTS Aortic PWV was significantly higher in patients with MAC (12.2 ± 2.3 m/s) than in controls (10.1 ± 1.3 m/s, p = 0.0001). However, AIx@75 was similar between the groups (28 ± 10 vs. 29 ± 10%, p = 0.59). Multivariate analysis involving the whole population revealed that brachial diastolic blood pressure (β = 1.87, p = 0.04) and MAC (β = 0.41, p = 0.0001) were independent determinants of aortic PWV. CONCLUSION The data showed that MAC was significantly associated with increased arterial stiffness and that it was an independent determinant of aortic PWV.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hepatic artery aneurysm (HAA) is a rare clinical entity that can lead to potentially life threatening complications. We reported our personal experience of 4 cases, in which we used different procedures. METHODS The first case had a pseudo-aneurysm involving the right hepatic artery. The second case had a pseudo-aneurysm, which was localized distal to the accidentally ligated right hepatic artery from the previous cholecystectomy operation. The third case had multiple aneurysms with accompanying dissecting abdominal aortic aneurysm. The fourth case had a pseudo-aneurysm originating from the proper hepatic artery. A covered stent was successfully placed in the case 1. In the second case, the right hepatic artery was ligated distal to the aneurysm. In the third case, vascular structures were not appropriate for vascular reconstruction, and a covered stent placement and embolization were unsuccessful. In the fourth case, ligation of the proper hepatic artery and cholecystectomy was performed. RESULTS The third case with multiple aneurysms died from multi-organ failure due to sepsis. The remaining cases (case 1, 2, and 4) are disease free and alive. CONCLUSION HAAs are more commonly observed clinical entities, and their treatment should be handled for each patient separately. Computerized tomography-Angiography and intraoperative Doppler ultrasound are useful radio-diagnostics for determination of aneurysm and planning the operative procedure (Fig. 5, Ref. 15).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The role of increased troponin level in risk stratification of acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is well documented. However, relation between right ventricular (RV) myocardial performance (Tei) index and cardiac troponin-T (cTn-T) has not been well investigated. The purpose of this observational prospective study was to assess the relationship between the RV Tei index and cTn-T in patients with acute normotensive PE. METHODS Thirty-eight patients with acute PE diagnosed by computed spiral tomography pulmonary angiography were enrolled to this prospective observational study. All study population underwent a comprehensive echocardiographic study including tissue Doppler imaging within first 12 hours of admission. cTn-T levels were measured on admission. Follow-up echocardiography was performed routinely at the 7th day of hospitalization. Echocardiographic evaluation was repeated at 90 days in patients with insufficient improvement of RV Tei index. The difference between the baseline and follow-up data was analyzed using the paired sample t-test or Wilcoxon test according to normality of distribution. RESULTS The mean of the RV Tei index was 0.46 ± 0.14 and the mean systolic pulmonary artery pressure (sPAP) was 40 ± 20 mmHg. Increased cTn-T level was detected in 37% of the patients (normal value 0.01< ng/mL). Significant correlations were observed between RV Tei index and sPAP with cTn-T levels (r=0.467 and r=0.468, p<0.001, respectively). In logistic regression analysis, RV Tei index was associated with positive cTn-T values (OR-136, 95% CI: 1.3-14657, p=0.039). After the anticoagulant treatment, RV Tei index and sPAP were significantly improved. CONCLUSION RV Tei index is frequently impaired in patients with acute PE and a significant recovery is seen after the treatment. Therefore, RV Tei index may be used both the diagnosis of RV dysfunction and the assessment of treatment effectiveness. RV Tei index is may predict myocardial injury in PE.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease that often leads to cardiovascular complications including aortic regurgitation and conduction disturbances. Left ventricular (LV) systolic asynchrony is defined as loss of the simultaneous peak contraction of corresponding cardiac segments. The aim of this study was to evaluate LV systolic asynchrony noninvasively in patients with AS by using tissue synchrony imaging (TSI). METHODS Asynchrony was evaluated in 77 AS patients (61 male, mean age 36.4 ± 10 years) and 40 controls (35 male, mean age 39.1 ± 8.2 years). All study population underwent a comprehensive echocardiographic evaluation including TSI. The time to regional peak systolic velocity (Ts) during the ejection phase in LV was measured from TSI images by the six-basal and six-midsegmental model, and four TSI parameters of systolic asynchrony were computed. RESULTS The baseline demographic and echocardiographic characteristics were similar between the patients enrolled and controls. All TSI parameters of LV asynchrony were prolonged in patients with AS compared to controls: the standard deviation (SD) of the 12 LV segments Ts (39.6 ± 19.6 vs. 24.7 ± 11.6, P < 0.001); the maximal difference in Ts between any 2 of the 12 LV segments (122.1 ± 52.9 vs. 82.2 ± 38.6, P < 0.001); the SD of the six basal LV segments (33.5 ± 20.2 vs. 23 ± 13.3, P = 0.008); and the maximal difference in Ts between any two of the six basal LV segments (84.6 ± 48.1 vs. 60.4 ± 34.6, P = 0.008). The asynchrony parameters were significantly correlated with index of myocardial performance (Tei index) and peak systolic mitral annular velocity. CONCLUSION TSI showed presence of LV systolic asynchrony in patients with AS which may account for the cardiovascular complications of AS.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHP) is associated with a variety of cardiovascular disturbances such as left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy, diastolic cardiac dysfunction, and hypertension. LV asynchrony is defined as the loss of the simultaneous peak contraction of corresponding cardiac segments. The objective of this study was to assess systolic asynchrony in patients with overt hyperparthyroidism. METHODS Asynchrony was evaluated in 22 patients with PHP and 24 controls. All the patients and controls were subjected to a tissue synchronization imaging (TSI). The time to regional peak systolic tissue velocity (Ts) in LV by the six-basal-six-midsegmental model was measured on ejection phase TSI images and four TSI parameters of systolic asynchrony were computed. RESULTS All TSI parameters of LV asynchrony increased in patients with PHP patients compared to the controls: the standard deviation (SD) of the 12 LV segments Ts (37.3±20.6 vs. 21.5±11.1, P=0.01); the maximal difference in Ts between any 2 of the 12 LV segments (111.2±59.8 vs. 70.2±32.1, P=0.01); the SD of the 6 basal LV segments (42.9±36.4 vs. 18.5±13, P=0.003); and the maximal difference in Ts between any 2 of the 6 basal LV segments (89.6±50.5 vs. 48±31.1, P=0.003). CONCLUSION Patients with PHP show an evidence of LV asynchrony by TSI. Asynchrony may contribute to the harmful cardiovascular effects of PHP.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The prone position is commonly utilized to reduce false positive perfusion defects because this position overcomes the diaphragmatic inferior wall attenuation in single-photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT) studies. We investigated whether the prone position had an important advantage over the supine position in determining the severity and extent of infarct in patients with acute inferior myocardial infarction (MI). METHODS Twenty-nine male patients (mean age 61 ± 10 years) with acute inferior MI were enrolled in the cross-sectional study. After injection of thallium-201 (201Tl) under resting conditions, redistribution SPECT imaging was twicely performed in each subject, in both the supine and prone positions, consecutively. The extent and severity scores of the perfusion defects were calculated from the sum of individual segment scores. Myocardial infarction size was also evaluated using peak cardiac troponin T (cTnT) levels. Wilcoxon rank and Spearman's rank correlation tests were used for statistical analyses of data. RESULTS For the supine vs. prone positions, the median defect severity scores were 8 (4-13) vs. 5 (0.5-8.5) and the defect extent scores were 4 (3-5.5) vs. 3 (0.5-4.5), respectively. Both perfusion defect scores in the prone position were significantly lower than those in the supine position (p=0.001). The mean peak cTnT level during hospitalization was 7.2 ± 3.9 µg/l. Peak cTnT levels were correlated with all SPECT parameters. However, the correlation was greater in the prone position (defect severity: r=0.712, p=0.001) (defect extent: r=0.790, p=0.001) than in the supine position (defect severity: r=0.495, p=0.01) (defect extent: r=0.481, p=0.01). CONCLUSION In patients with inferior MI, the SPECT results revealed a significant difference between the supine and prone images. The perfusion extent and severity scores of SPECT in the inferior wall with prone imaging correlates better with the peak troponin compared to the supine position. Comparative studies that use advanced imaging tools are needed to verify our present findings.

Abstract
The aim of the work is to examine the role of circulating platelet aggregates (CPAs) in association with pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PXG) and searching for visual field (VF) progression. The impact of CPAs in association with PXG and ischaemic events related to optic nerve damage and VF progression has not been so far sufficiently explained. The examination included 80 patients, of whom 35 (44 %) were men with average age of 68.3 +/- 7.0 and 45 (56 %) were women with average age of 65.7 +/- 7.0 (t = 1.66; p = 0.101). Forty of them suffered from primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and were included into a control (healthy) group, and 40 patients suffered from pseudoexfoliative glaucoma (PXG) and were included into the experimental group. All the examinees underwent complete ophthalmologic examination of visual acuity, ocular fundus, intraocular pressure and anterior eye segment by biomicroscopy and gonioscopy. In addition, VF examination was performed three times in six-month intervals. Laboratory testing of CPA proportion values was performed by means of Wu an Hoak method. The obtained decreased values of CPA proportion were caused by hypercoagulability of blood in PXG group resulting finally in ischaemia and hypoxia helping the progression of visual field. In conclusion, our study shows that CPA examination improves the assessment of the vascular role and PXG prognosis (Tab. 3, Ref. 30).

Abstract
Acute anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (AION) is a disabling disease which impairs visual functions. AION is characterized by ischemic injury of the optic nerve caused by hypoperfusion in the short posterior ciliary arteries supplying the optic nerve head. AION is a complex multi-factorial disease and is difficult to diagnose based on clinical symptoms and signs alone. We describe the case of a 54-year-old patient affected by AION, with only known risk factors were PAI-1 4G/5G and Factor V Leiden mutation with hyperlipidaemia (Ref. 36). Abstract
A 23-year-old woman was transferred to our department with loss of consciousness 6 h after undergoing rod placement for thoracolumbar scoliosis. Both computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging of the brain revealed diffuse pneumocephalus and infra- and supratentorial hemorrhages. The pedicular screw tracts were analyzed with computed tomography and misplacement of a screw was noticed. It was thought that inadvertent dural injury had occurred at the time of insertion. The patient was re-operated and the dural tear was repaired. To our knowledge, this is the first description of these uncommon complications in one patient after spine surgery.

Abstract
Myositis ossificans is a benign, localized, self-limiting ossifying soft tissue mass with unknown pathogenesis. It may be confused with a malignant tumor of bone or soft tissues, especially in the early stages of the disease. In this report, we present a case of myositis ossificans affecting unilateral psoas muscle, which to our knowledge is a very uncommon location. There was no history of trauma. We describe the imaging findings and clues to early diagnosis of myositis ossificans.

Abstract
Fibrous dysplasia is a developmental disorder caused by abnormal proliferation and maturation of fibroblasts resulting in replacement of mature bone by structurally weak, immature woven bone. Clival involvement in monostotic fibrous dysplasia is extremely unusual, and has rarely been reported previously. We report a case of monostotic fibrous dysplasia of the clivus with special emphasis on the imaging findings and differential diagnosis.
